RH 7: Lack of Word support preventing printing to PDF?

I have RH 7 and need to print to PDF just for ease of reviewing.  I have checked my settings to make sure they are set to print to PDF and not Word. Nevertheless, I get a message that an supported version of Word is not found. I have Office 2010 and I have read that it is not supported (no surprise) but why can't I print to PDF?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Beki.
The print to PDF is not quite what it may at first seem. It actually generates a Word file first and then a PDF from the word file. As you have discovered, Word 2010 is not supported by RH7. The answer is to either downgrade your Word version or upgrade your RH version.

I am using Acrobat X.  Every time I try to convert Word to PDF, the hidden text in Word appears in the PDF document.  I don't recall this happening in earlier versions of Acrobat.  How can I stop hidden text in Word from printing to PDF?

On the Mac there is not Reader Uninstaller.
For a simple uninstall You simply drag the application to the trash and empty it.
For a complete removal it takes a bit of doing.

  • Firefox 4.0 support for printing embedded PDF files in iFrames via JavaScript

I recently upgraded to Firefox 4.0 and can no longer print embedded PDF documents contained in an iFrame.
My company's web application has several pages which load PDF files from a Servlet into an iFrame. The pages in question all have "Print" buttons which when clicked executes a JavaScript function to obtain reference to the iframe containing the PDF, place it into focus() (e.g., frames['pdfdoc'].focus();), and invoke print() (e.g., frames['pdfdoc'].print();). There are no errors, or exceptions caught when the JavaScript function is invoked, but the "Print" button is no longer operational.
Does Firefox 4.0 no longer support iFrames? The issue goes away if I revert back to ver 3.6.16

I have same issue for printing embedded PDF files in iFrames via JavaScript in Firefox 5.0.
In previous versions it was working fine. But not in Firefox 4.0/5.0.
Is there any solution for this problem?

  • Prevent printing to PDF file

    Hi,
I'm trying to prevent the user to print a protected PDF document to a PDF file.
    My questions:
    - How do I detect that the user prints to a specific printer?
My replacement callback for AVDocDoPrint is called before the print dialog is viewed. But after the dialog is closed I have no chance to find out, which printer the user has chosen.
My replacement callback for AVDocPrintPagesWithParams is never called..
Or how can I find out the properties of the selected printer, like it is a "PDF printer" or a "postscript printer"?
If I print a protected document with the "Adobe PDF" printer, I get the message
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
This PostScript file was created from an encrypted PDF file.
Redistilling encrypted PDF is not permitted.
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%"
How do I achieve this for every other printer?
    Best regards,
    Stefan

That's (for the most part) impossible, unfortunately.
Since there is no way to identify a given printer as a "PDF printer", the only thing you could do would be to get the name of the printer and compare it against some list that you've built.  If it matches, then using the provided hooks for printing in the Acrobat SDK Plugin API, you could then disallow printing to that particular printer.
But given the NUMEROUS 3rd party PDF printers on the market – many of which are themselves OEM'd out and rebranded – I think you have a long road ahead :(.
Can I ask what you are REALLY trying to achieve?  Is it some form of protection/right management?  Perhaps there is a better way if we understood your underlying need.

  • Saving a Mac Word file by printing to PDF not possible anymore

I have a  old version of Office v.X for Mac that will no longer allow me to save files by printing them as  save to PDF. I think the problem occured when I switched to Mac OS X 10.6.8. Does anyone know what the problem maybe and how I can fix it?

Try opening up Font Book from the Applications folder. From there highlight all the fonts and try to validate them. Remove any duplicates as well.

  • Word doc saved/printed as PDF looks bitmapped

I have a client who is trying to save an electronic letterhead as a PDF in order to send neditable legal documents. However, when they try this, everything in the PDF appears bitmapped. The cient described it as "fuzzy" or "soft", but when you zoom in, everything, including fonts and inserted images, look rasterized/bitmapped (see attached). I'm told this is occurring in older versions of Word as well as 2007 versions. Has anyone come across anything like this or have a solution?
    Thanks

Interesting. When I examined the document more closely, the PDF is made up of two Word documents, an older one from May and a new one from October.
The preflight tells me that everything from the newer portion has somehow been converted to bitmap, including graphics and text. Everything exported as bitmap when I used the Export All Graphics command. All of these graphics and text have the bitmapped look shown in the jpegs attached to the original posted question. I cannot use the Touch Up Text tool to edit any of this text.
The text from the older one is sharp (see attached). The graphic is soft but not bitmapped (see attached). The graphics (logos and signatures) from the older portion exported with the Export All Graphics command, but the text did not. I can use the Touch Up Text tool to edit the text in this portion.
Preflight also tells me that no images or fonts are embedded, throughout the entire PDF.
The Object Data Tool wouldn't show anything when I double-clicked on each image as instructed.
    Thanks

  • Can't Print to PDF

I don't understand why I can't print to pdf from any Adobe project, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Reader, etc.

I'm sorry, I didn't clarify in my original post that I was on a Mac. Thank you for your suggestion CF McBlob, but from InDesign, Acrobat Pro and Reader, I tried to print to pdf (which all 3 of them display the option to do so), but a message appears saying that printing to pdf isn't supported in print dialog. I don't have any issues with exporting and saving as a pdf.
I needed to print to booklet as a pdf with the pages in correct page imposition. The file needed to be emailed to other stakeholders within the company to print as they needed.
Adobe used support printing to pdf on Macs:
    http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/feature-details/acrobatpro/p dfs/creating-pdf-files-using-the-print-command-mac.pdf
Upon talking with support, I learned that Adobe no longer supports the print of pdf driver for the Mac. They discontinued the driver a couple of years back. This is because Apple's Preview popularity. However, I still needed the booklet option for print to pdf which Preview doesn't have.
Create Booklet solves this problem. You can open your pdf in Preview and select Create Booklet from the PDF dropdown list.
    Create Booklet:

Hope this helps those struggling with the same issue as I did.

  • Some characters gain extra lines or are broken when printing to PDF

I am having a problem with some characters rendering oddly when I print to PDF.
Examples are an extra vertical line next to an upright character, and extra partial curve to the left of an opening parenthesis, or a slight cut-off of a curve in a character.  All of these seem to be in the vertical plane.  It is not consistently tied to particular character combinations - the same word may render correctly in one instance, but incorrectly in another.
I am using Microsoft Word 2007, and printing to PDF via Adobe PDF Converter (CS4).  The font is Gill Sans MT Light, and the document is 230 pages.
Can anyone seen anything similar before, or can someone suggest anything I can look into further?

You may have to turn on "display large images" in the preferences.

  • Can't print to pdf from Word - Stumped Applecare & Microsoft level 2

This is a challenge question that has stumped the Applecare level 2 and the Microsoft Office level 2 support people. I'm hoping someone out there can help me.
This is different from the other postings about printing to a pdf. I am able to print to a pdf or to the printer from TextEditor, and I can print from Acrobat, Safari, Mail, etc. The problem is only associated with Mcrosoft Office 2004.
    Here's the scenario:
I had a Mac G4 and got a new MacBook Pro (10.4.9). I ported everything from my old computer to my new computer. My old computer had Microsoft Office v: X. Once I had the new computer up and running, I went to open one of my existing Word documents. When I double-clicked on the Word document on my new computer, I assumed it would open in Office v: X as usual, but the new computer had the Office 2004 Test Drive loaded, and the file opened in the TestDrive. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to print from the file>print dialog box since then. I ended up buying Office 2004, thinking it was time to upgrade, but the fully loaded version has the same problem.
I suspect that the TestDrive irreversibly toggled some switch in some embedded print function file and that the new software installation is not addressing that file.
I called Microsoft and spent 2 hours on the phone with them, and they could not solve the problem. They did acknowledge that the TestDrive takes over as the default and that the TestDrive version cannot print. With the Microsoft people on the phone, I uninstalled all versions of office and removed the preference files, in addition to attempting other things, but that didn't do it. (If I set up another account with administrator rights, the problem exists in the new account as well.)
Keep in mind that I can print when using the icon in the toolbar at the top of the screen, but I cannot get the file>print dialog box to print to the printer or to a pdf. The whole box seems to be disabled. In the end, Microsoft couldn't help and suggested that there was a conflict with the Preview program which enables the print to pdf function. (I made Preview the default program for opening pdf's, instead of Acrobat, but that didn't help either.)
Next, I was on the phone with Applecare (almost an hour with level 2) and they suggested some of the same things. They also suggested removing Office with Appzapper and reinstalling. Appzapper did remove more files than the Microsoft people told me to, but still no dice.
Applecare said an archive install could potentially correct what the TestDrive did, but it would also put all my files in jeopardy if the process ran amok.
I have not yet tried removing Office 2004 and going back to Office v:X, but if nothing else works I can try that next. I'd really like to make it work with Office 2004 though.
In case you're wondering, my printer is connected to the computer directly by the printer cable. The printer is a HP Laserjet 1200, and I updated the drivers as part of the process of trying to solve the problem. I know the printer is old, but it worked well with my G4 and Office v:X. I have also loaded all the latest Microsoft Office and Apple updates for the Office software and the computer.
Let me know if you have any suggestions, and thanks for your help!

<but I cannot get the file>print dialog box to print to the printer or to a pdf. The whole box seems to be disabled. >
Do you get the dialog to come up and then the buttons don't work? Is that what "disabled" means? If so, removing the Xerox plugins could help:

If this is not the case, could you provide more description on what disabled means?

  • Printing to PDF Crashes InDesign, Word, Publisher and more

    Hello,
It was recommended by someone in the InDesign forums that I post my issue here, as my problem seems to be spanning through all programs that are capable of printing to PDF.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have 8gb of DDR2 ram in my machine at work. We are running Creative Suite 4.
I am a prepress designer, so much of my day is spent taking customers files, and converting them into printable PDF files for our machines. My problem is that throughout the day, printing to a PDF will completely freeze my computer. In InDesign, when printing to a PDF file, I will get the progress bar that says, "downloading font, flattening image, etc." Usually, when the progress bar gets to "Downloading Procset," a window comes up that allows me to choose a name and location to print my PDF to. Occasinally, InDesign will completely freeze up at this point, with no option to save. The only thing I can do at this point it end the program through the task manager. When this happens, it also affects Word, Publisher, etc. I can get all the way to the print dialog box, but as soon as I click on Properties, the entire thing freezes up. Sometimes this issue starts from InDesign as described, and sometimes it originates in Word, Publisher, etc.
Even after closing and reopening the programs, I cannot print to a PDF. My only solution is to completely restart my computer. I have been doing this 4-8 times a day for 2-3 months now.
I did some digging, and found that once the PDF printing fails, it puts a document in my PDF printer queue called "Local Downlevel Document." It shows the status of this file as Spooling, and I am not able to delete or cancel the job. It's properties show as 0 byes, 0 pages, datatype raw, and processor Winprint.
I've gotten suggestions to Export to PDF or print to postscript and distill. While these fixes work after the PDF printing fail, it still does not return functionality to any of my other programs that require PDF printing.
Another issue that arises when this happens, is that I cannot print any PDF file to any physical printer. When I open a PDF file, and click print, it instantly freezes. This, as well, is fixed by restarting.
There is no pattern to when this happens. It seems to be completely at random.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!

This is a user to user forum, not Adobe support
That means that the only way someone is going to be able to help is if they have experience with your software and how Acrobat intereacts
I can't help, but hopefully someone will come along and read your message who is able to help
I do not see that you posted your exact version and update level for Acrobat
Since Win7 64bit is still fairly new, you MAY have a problem of not having the latest Acrobat update... and you may also have something like an out of date video driver

  • Print to PDF from Word 2011 creates problems at section breaks

I have a user trying to create a pdf of his thesis. He created the thesis on Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac, and we use Acrobat 10. It has a number of section breaks where he switches from portrait to landscape and back. When he tries to print to PDF, not only does the thesis get split into an individual document at each section break (annoying, but not a big issue), but when he tries to reassemble the document there is an adjustment in margin and several extra lines of space at the top of each section. I've seen workarounds such as opening the individual sections in Preview and stitching them together that way, but it still leaves the extra space at the beginning of each section break, as well as the adjustment in margin. Has anyone found a workaround for this?
    Thank you!

I had the same problem with a Word document and figured out the problem. Word seems to be spitting out separate PDF documents based on the page setup. So under File -> Page Setup you get a dialog box with the settings for the page, and usually a "Format for" dropdown and a "Paper Size" option. If these setting are not the same for the whole document, Word throws a wobbley and generates a PDF for each page setup.
My solution (works where all of the pages are the same format).
    File -> Page Setup
Settings: Choose "Microsoft Word" from the dropdown box
Apply Page Setup settings to: Entire Document.
This will setup up the entire document to use the same page settings, and will fix the problem for those of us who are wanting a document that all has the same page settings. (This won't work if you are mixing page sizes.)

  • I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.

I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.
The word file has a trim size of 6” x 9”. It has been set to mirror margins with the inner, top and bottom margins set to 0.75”, the outer margin is set to 0.5” and the gutter to 0.14”.
It doesn’t matter if I create the PDF from inside Word, or open Acrobat Pro 11.0.9 and click Create From File, while the resulting document size is correct and the odd numbered pages reflect the correct margins, the even numbered pages do not. This results in some text near the outer margin, as well as the page numbers being omitted.
Does anyone know how to correct this?
I just noticed that some of the odd numbered pages' text is also cropped. Apparently Acrobat is refusing to set side margins to smaller than 1" (@ 3cm).

I'm away from my printer, so I'll try it later. Even so, the proposed test is irrelevant. I operate a small publishing house and am trying to upload certain novels to Ingram, the largest book distributor in the world. The specifications I've set are the specifications they've asked for. Since they've said that the results I'm obtaining are unacceptable, and since they demand submission in PDF form, this renders Acrobat Pro for Mac completely unacceptable for anyone in the publication industry. As far as I can tell, Adobe has a serious bug here that it needs to fix—and at once.

    Hi Friendz
I need help to print "only" word exact after amount in word in cheque print Layout.
    How we can set it?
In Indian scenario, we need to print only word on cheque after amount in word.
this functinality is missing in SAP Business one.
    waiting for reply.
    regards
    kamlesh vagal

    hi,
what we are doing is concating the amount with only Text field. but if you displayed directly it will show without space between amount and only. So you put another textfield in that put dot and concat the threee fields amount field, dot textfield and  only texfield.
    Concat(amount,text1,text2).
    it will work.

This would be the correct setting if the AirPort Extreme is connected to a simple modem (one ethernet port).
