Rich Media and Windows 8

Hi,
I have installed Windows 8.
It looks and runs great and I think is going to have a big success.
My first surprise is when I have opened a PDF file . By default Windows 8 reads all pdf files with a windows pdf reader applicattion. This means that if  a pdf containing Rich Media elements is opened nothing will happen. You see a "flat" pdf document.
I am thinking about some code to alert the user that Adobe Reader is needed to see the Rich Media elements.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

The best way to ensure a PDF is opened in Reader is to use JavaScript (or more precisely, use the lack of it).
See this post for the basics of showing a message if PS is not present, if you want to extend the idea to require a particular version of Acrobat or Reader  you can modify the JS code to check the values of app.viewerVersion. To detect if you're in Adobe products, look at app.viewerType (which will be "Reader" for Reader, "Exchange" for Acrobat Standard or "Exchange-Pro" for Acrobat Pro).
e.g. suppose you use method 1 (a warning page at the end of the document set as the initial page number, with a JS event to move back to page 0) and your valid conditions are for the user to have Acrobat Pro, version 10.0 or later. The redirection code on the final page would be:
if (app.viewerVersion>10 && app.viewerType == 'Exchange-Pro') this.pageNum = 0;
Anyone opening the file in Reader, OS X Preview, or with scripting disabled, will see the warning message on your final page. Those who meet the requirements will see the first page.
Being suitably vague and handwavey, imagine a mystical future time when Reader on mobile gains a JS  API but still cannot display Rich Media - in that case you could detect the problem directly by trying to open a reference to the RMA inside a try-catch loop - if you throw an error or get an undefined object you know something is blocking your content. The same technique can be used to detect users of Acrobat or Reader XI who've disabled Rich Media via the security message bar.

  • Rich Media and mobile devices

    Hi,
I have opened a discussion at javascript forum but they tell me that mobile devices do not read javascript http://forums.adobe.com/message/4741591
The point is that Rich Media Annotations can not be seen in mobile devices, android tablets, ipad.
Is there any way to give a warning to the mobile device user that the PDF has Rich Media Annotations and a Windows or Mac Pc is needed to see it right?

  • Rich media web banners in flex?

Our company is looking into developing rich media and/or expandable web banners. I'm pretty comfortable in Flex and was wondering is anyone has built web banners using Flex instead of Flash. Thanks.
    Ryan

Flex is a framework. Although the output of both Flash and Flex is a .swf file, if you build it using the Flex framework the output file embeds components (e.g. button, scrollbar, text field, canvas), which probably you will not need if your goal is to create a banner.
E.g. the smallest app built in Flex is ~ 170000 bytes.

  • I have partitioned my time capsule, but I can't get it to work as a Time Machine back up and permanent media server for both mac and PC. What format do I need to partition the drive to so that it works for both mac and windows and so that it will be visab

I have partitioned my time capsule, as I want part of it to act as a media server for both mac and windows. However I don't know what format that I need to partition it to. I also can't make it a permanently accesible drive. I want to restore the drive to the original format (which I don't know) and start again and re-partition the drive in a format that can be used for media by both mac and PC and for time machine back-ups and make the media part of it permanetly accesible so I can add and acccess my files.
    Thanks

You are mixing up a couple of things here.
The TC drive cannot be partitioned without removing it.. did you do that?
If you partition it you must use a Mac disk utility and use the HFS+ ie standard Mac format. And GUID partition table not windows type.
You can select erase disk in the airport utility.. that will take the disk back to original format. No partitions. TC is deliberately not partitioned as it is not a media server.. it is a backup device for TM. Over time .. the disk will be filled with TM backups so you have a long history of file changes to your computer.
There is no media server in the TC.. it is merely disk storage.. you can serve files from it to a media device.. but the TC itself is dumb as dumb.
Now the actual format of the drive is irrelevant to the PC.. The TC offers SMB file services to the network. You can copy files to and from the TC as if it was a local disk without caring one iota about the format. The TC handles that .. it is not a local disk .. it is a network drive.
Although you cannot partition the TC. you can still copy files to it.. this does have implications for TM.. but as long as there is plenty of free space should not be a major issue.
You can create a disk image via the disk utility in a Mac.. and as stated you can create partitions if you do it on a Mac with the disk directly connected which means breaking warranty if any exists on the TC.

  • Problems with Ipod and Windows Media Player PLEASE HELP

Ok i am not sure if this is the correct forum or not but i am having a problem. I have a Windows computer (Yes a windows computer please dont everyone yell at me) and i have a new ipod 30 gig video. Ok well when i put itunes on it changes all my music on my computer gets changed to AAC format and i cannot play music in windows media player. Ok well that is not my big issue. I make videos for church using windows movie maker and i cannot import music because nothing windows can recognize Itunes format which is AAC. well is there anyway so i can use itunes and still use WIndows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker... Any info will be greatly appreciated. THANKS ALL

I believe Quicktime Pro (which is available for Windoze) is capable of opening any WMP files and then you just export it as iPod format. That is how I get video onto the iPod. The Music and Videos all can be placed onto your iPod through iTunes.
So, if you are creating videos in your program, and want them on your iPod, then that is how you can do it.
Videos on your iPod have nothing to do with the formatting of your music. But, as the earlier post stated, change your prefs in iTunes to import as MP3. But, your videos HAVE to be in MP4 or M4V format to work on the iPod.
    Good luck... and I'm a j3susfreak too

  • Ipod and windows media

Ok I used real player to download and all the music went into the "other" folder, then I used windows media and yet downloaded more but yet it went to the same place.. "other" how can I get my music into the "audio" so that I can listen to it?

If the music is in a file type compatible with iTunes, drag the file to an open iTunes window. I'm don't know what you mean by the "other" and "audio" folders. If the file format is compatible with iTunes, you can drag it to an iTunes window from any location. Once it is in the iTunes library, you can sync the song to an iPod (or copy it there manually).

  • Can i use my external itunes media folder on mac and windows

Ok, i have moved my media folder itunes to my external drive.
But i also have installed windows 7 on bootcamp
I want to use the same itunes media folder external on my osx and windows is this
possible didn't tryed it because i was afraid that i could damage the data.

    Hi
Yes there is a way to use the media folder with both OSX and Windows, however you have to have the drive formatted with windows NTFS and use something like Seagates NTFS for Mac program. If you buy a Seagate GoFlex Drive it comes ready formatted with the software on board to install on your mac, then anything saved on the drive will be readable from both OS.
I use a couple of these drives for just that purpose very successfully, unfortunately I haven't come across an alternative to buying the Seagate drive.
    Hope this helps.

  • AR9.1 Rich Media Annotation TextInput and Backspace Key

I've put together a test PDF see:
    http://www.amrita-cfd.org/4adobe/rich-media/shock-tube.pdf
that shows that the backspace key does not work as expected
for an a TextInput field in a rich-media annotation when
viewed with Linux AR9.1; at least not with my SuSE 10.3 setup.
There are a couple of other issues not alluded to in the test PDF:
    (i) the /Widget used to toggle the attachments pane does not work
in fullscreen mode; (ii) the /Widget used to zoom out from
    the rich-media annotation has /Normal, /Rollover and /Down
appearances, but only the /Normal appearance is drawn.
    James Quirk

    Hi Sandip,
Thanks for your reply. I'm glad to hear that the backspace
issue is being worked on and I'm guessing that you're
also aware of a similar problem with the enter key?
I agree that my non-Acrobat PDF might be deficient in some
way and it's also possible that my user preferences are
not quite right. But consider the following.
I re-jigged the test PDF such that the /Widget whose /R
and /D appearances were not activated now lies half on
the rich-media SWF and half on the background page.
Recall this is the /Widget that reads "Click to zoom out!",
which appears when the SWF is activated.
Interestingly, when I position the mouse over the /Widget
half that lies off the SWF (the right-hand half) then the
right-hand half does have its /R and /D appearances rendered.
But the left-hand half, the part that lies over the SWF,
is stuck with the /N appearance.
Following this observation, I re-jigged the /Widget to
print out the events its receives on the JS console.
And it seems that the left-hand half of the /Widget
is not getting /E or /X events, even though the
mouse correctly changes shape, but it does receive
    /D, /Fo, /U and /Bl events. The right-hand half
    receives all events as normal.
You can also try the following. Move the mouse over
the right-hand half of the /Widget, such that an
/E event is generated. Then move the mouse along
the /Widget towards the left-hand half: the second
the mouse reaches the left-hand half the /Widget
    receives an /X event.
Therefore it looks like there is some inconsistency
in the event model when a /Widget lies on top of
a rich media annotation, or at least the behaviour
I'm observing is not hinted at in the document adobe_supplement_iso32000.pdf which covers rich-media
    annotations.
Anyhow, I'll send you the original PDF as you requested
along with the modified one I describe above.
    Regards,
    James

    the modified PDF at:

  • Media Sync and Windows 2000

    Hello,
I'm using for few days a BlackBerry Curve 8900 with a PC under Windows 2000.
Did anybody kept the installation package for Media Sync V2, which seems to be compatible with Windows 2000 ?
Only the V3 is available on the BlackBerry site.
    Thanks !

    Hello,
Apparently windows 7 and media sync do not currently work together. What I mean by this is that when installing Blackberry Media Sync I receive a message explaining to me that "an unsupported operating system was detected. The following operating systems are supported: Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista." After this, the installation explains that it will now exit without setting up. Is there something that I can do to get around this. I mean obviously I can just remove the SD Card and insert it into my laptop that way to make change but I would much rather be able to make changes to my media through the Desktop Manager.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Hi and welcome to the forums!
You can use a PC to transfer info between the PC and the media card.
Basically you will attach the USB to the BB and the PC. Don't use desktop
manager. Go to "My Computer" on the PC and the BB will show as a flash drive.
Then you can "drag and drop" files to the BB.
Use the following settings in the memory option of the Storm:
    Media card support ON
    Encryption mode NONE
Media transfer protocol ON (Storm and Bold only)
    Mass storage support ON
Auto enable Mass storage support when connected ON
    Thanks,

  • Zen Vision M and Windows Media Player 11 SOLUT

Ok this is for all of you that have Windows Media Player (WMP ) and can't get your album art to be displayed.
    Go here
Support (You will see this near the top of your screen in the orange bar)
    2 Software AutoUpdate
3 Accept (this will only work I you player is connected tour computer)
4 You will now be told what device you have connected on your computer
5 Check Update (this may take a couple of minute even with broadband)
    And Download this
[size="">5. Creative Media Explorer Update for Creative ZEN Vision:M? (4.49 MB)?? 29 Nov 06????? Download Now[/b]
[size="">This update resolves compatibility issues between Creative Media Explorer or Creative MediaSource? Player/Organizer, and Windows Media? Player (WMP). For more details, read the rest of this web release note.
This update has rectified the problem for me If these steps do not work for you try looking for the download direct by doing the following
Support (You will see this near the top of your screen in the orange bar)
2 Downloads (Follow the steps to select the product YOU have)
3 Select YOUR Language and YOUR Operating System, leave file types set to All
    4 Click Go
    5 Download Patch
I have the latest Firmware installed (found it easiest to do using the Software AutoUpdate section of the website) even installed with WMP on my pc.
Also I updated my creative media explorer, which allowed me to convert more video files from the same place. I found this really usefull.
I have?NOT had the problem of my player not being recognised when connected to my pc and unfortunately I do not know how to solve that problem, sorry, hope some one else can help you with that.

Well I figured it out. Turns out if you go to Sync(little down arrow)>DEVICE_NAME>Advanced Options>Quality if you leave it on automatic it will transfer wav files, but if you change it (I did without knowing) then the highest quality you're going to get is 92 WMA.

  • PC Synch and Windows Media player keep failing

    Hi,
The WMP/PC Synch driver keeps failing, I have to keep de-installing in Device Manager/Portable devices/Nokia 5310 Express Music (says ""the device is not working properly") and then reboot, even then it only works about 1 in 6 times and even when it does finally work it falls over normally during music upload (fails on USB and failing on Blue tooth).
I swapped the phone (courtesy of T-Mobile) but the 2nd one still fails, I tested on my Vista Notebook (still fails)
I have spent hours looking for a fix for this on line(but no joy).
I have WMP 11 and Windows Vista, I have a 5310, sync works fine (lie a dream) in Outlook, file transfer, and messages etc, but in Windows Media player it's a nightmare, I have reinstalled the driver 5 or 6 times (latest version from the Nokia web site) the PC is pretty new and clean, I have a creative MP3 player which work fine.
I get some very strange old 16bit Nokia error messages when it does fail (Vista jumps into compatibility mode)
I've come to the conclusion that this can only be caused by Nokia's PC Synch software, VERY FRUSTRATING ! Even though I love the phone,
    Happy to supply screens/messages etc
    Any help, pleaseeeee !

Here is one of the error messages (when it fails)

  • CoreCentre and Windows Media Player 9

I have a problem with CoreCentre and Windows Media Player 9.  When CoreCentre is running, the CD drive stops and starts when I am playing an audio CD with Media Player 9.  If I use any other Cd audio player (eg Creative Mediasource Player) it does not happen.  I like to use Windows Media Player 9 (I am probably one of the few) but do not wish to turn off CoreCentre.
Can you help me please.  I have asked MSI support staff with no luck and also Microsoft Support (They suggested I go into Safe Mode and see if it still happens - of course it doesn't - I am in Safe Mode! - nothing works!!!).
    I am running Windows XP Pro SP1 with 865Pe Neo2 board, 1GB DDR3200 RAM and Pentium 4 3.0 GHz.
    Sheryl

Well first of all get out of "safe mode"...It's no fun in there ...No really, I can believe that you are not the only one that this happens to ...You have to understand that "CORE-CENTER" is a resource hog!!..As it  has to be in order to give you that critical info in "real-time"..So I take it that this prob. only happens when you are running the CD or DVD programs?...Do you have your DRAM Voltage set to 2.7 Volts?..As this always seems to help on these MO-BO'S (i865-i875)...And if that does'nt work why not just close down "CORE-CENTER?..Until you are finnished with you CD'S ..Sean REILLY875

  • Mac / Intel / Viewing windows wmv files and windows media

First time Mac user, son gave me the latest G5 / Tiger with the dual intel. Cannot load flip Mac, I get a message that basically tells me that Flip Mac doesn't work with the Mac/Intel set-up as of yet. I also cannot seem to get a Mac friendly version of anything to open wmv. files. I'm not very computer savvy and have virtually no experience with Mac. Simple downloads appreciated. Help an old dog learn a new trick.

Sounds like you've got a great son!
I have little Mac Intel experience to point you directly to a .wmv player, but if you haven't already found it, go to http://www.versiontracker.com for a comprehensive list of software for both Mac and Windows.
If you're willing to be a little adventurous then have a look at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html. VLC is one of my favorite media players and while the site doesn't yet have an Intel release, they are actively working on an Intel version. You can download their testing versions and help them by posting feedback and bug reports.
    Hopet this helps! bill

  • Which Code of avi can play in QT Pro and Window Media Player?

Which Code of avi also can play in QT Pro and Window Media Player?

Nevermind ... not that simple apparently. I managed to get one of the avi's in the CS5 project created automatically when opening the original CS4 project to show the entire contents but can't replicate the behavior to another project using the same avi. Here are the media start, end, duration and video in, out duration values for the file. Viewing the avi in the source monitor I can see the full 16+ minutes. Odd disconnect between the 2 sets of values.
    Any idea would be great!
