Here's a file I want to copy via airport to my MacMini(10.4) from my laptop(10.7). Note the size - 1.73GB
Here's the file after copying it over to the MacMini. Still 1.73GB
However, here's the file via screen sharing to the Mini - Now it's just 1.61GB, and it won't play in iTunes anymore...
Anyone know where the missing data is going???

I strongly advise you to NOT try to remove your preroll, doing so could make redigitizing later an impossibility.
You could do away with any preroll by setting your capture settings to non-controllable device as the device control, then hit record on FCP and then play your tape from the camera/deck. You'll get no timecode, of course, but it could allow you to capture an important moment too early in the tape to preroll to.

Riddle Me This! Looking for Plug-In or Handy Hint

Good Day, Illustrator Forum Folk:
I'm looking for a freeware or shareware plug-in (or maybe just a handy hint that I'm unaware of) for ai CS5 that will show me the transform pane's coordinates of a PREVIOUSLY selected item.
In other words, I select an object or objects. I usually write down the co-ordinates on a scrap piece of paper. Then I select a different object or place or import a new object to these co-ordinates.
My best comparison is how in Photoshop in the Info Pane you can show 1st Color Readout and 2nd Color Readout. Just need some kind of tool that captures the position and size of an object so when I select another object I can still see those previous numbers instead of having to rely on scraps of paper and handwriting.
Does anyone know of such a tool?

Hi Russel, it took me a while to put something together, but finally here it is. If you only wanted to "see" the values of an object, then manually use those on another object, this might work for you. I'm still working on another version where values can be copied from one object to another, but i'm running into some trouble with it.

Riddle me this-. Orange Render bar for some clips

I hope my system isn't getting tired and old but I have never had a project where all the clips needs to be rendered. No effects applied or anything. I converted these clips to Apple Pro Res(LT) and I still need to render. When I convert my RED footage, it works fine. But not the MVI files. See picture on this link. The files have same codec, one needs to render but the other doesn't!

I interpet that it mean it will playback withourt requiring rendering until you apply an effect.
One of your clips is set to "maximum" quality with a higher bitirate than the one set to "Normal" quality. Not sure if that is causeing it.

AX Issue w/ PC but not MBPro?? Riddle me this Batman

So I can connect all the computers in the house if my AX is not secured w/ a WPA2 password, but once protected my MBPro and GF's Laptop connects fine but not the PC Gaming machine. I run AP Utility and it can't find the Apple Device?? If I reset the AX then I can connect again because it's a unsecured network again and I can then set up the router w/ AP Utility. Once I encrypt it I loose the network again?? Bizarre Right??

Here is the thing. Before I bought my MBP the PC that won't connect, was used to set up the network and worked w/ a WPA/WPA2 Personal password. So I know it works. Now that I have this laptop it won't find the network once encrypted and I have downloaded all the newest and latest patches and software updates, so it isn't that... I don't think. But lets keep tryin', I'm sure we are close to a solution. Right? I'm wondering if once it personalizes the network steps away from just using the default settings, somehow it changes the path in which the PC uses to find the network is modified somehow (poking in the dark now). Prolly doesn't make a difference. Any other suggestions?

I'm having problems getting my headphones to work from front pannel on my Soundbalster Aud2 Platinum. I tried all ideas pinned in here including clean sweep. What I can not do is make any adjustment to the HQ/Device like "mute spks when headphones in use" because there are no options like that. The only device it shows in that tab is the soundcard it self. Yes I see red light and I have used firewire port, but know that does not req the ribbon cable. Soooo...is the reason I have no HQ settings/options for front pannel because it was not on my CD to load or just because it is there to load but won't because it can't detect it's I say I got the wrong CD with my card and the tool is just not there. What do you think? I have tried all updates of any kind but they seem to cover drivers/spkr sets improvements. etc. but never a offer of upgraded Audio HQ. And that is what looks like is set up for just a sound card with out front pannel options. Mine has only got functions for digital or analog/and one other for some kind of freq change (not @ home right now) Please help!

If you installed the CD and everything is working correctly then it should give you those options. What does the image/text on the CD itself say? Have you spoken to Customer Support yet?

FCP freak out session...RIDDLE ME THIS!!!!

I imported a reference movie back into Final Cut Pro to tweak a portion of it--I did not have the original sequence avaiable to manipulate. I, then, exported the fixed version of the reference video to the same location/same file name, and chose to replace the unfixed version of the reference movie with this new version...still following!?!...NOW!! when I try to burn the thing in DVD studio pro, the reference movie is offline. Some kinda of cannibalistic accident happened, I think. Because the movie I fixed and exported was replacing the very reference movie I imported TO be fixed.......I dunno, my head hurts! Any help out there?

Yes, I am. Connect to your camera, preferrably S-VIDEO, and record it tape, then digitize it from tape. Or if you can capture it by running it thru your camera and get it as a non-controllable device. It seems that whatever the fix was that you needed to do, it was a simple one.
Depending on the quality you need, the referencing idea was using actually using the dvd version as guide to how you built your seq. for redoing it. Hopefully not.
Autosave ON, if you have the space, change the setting so it does it more often. If the files start to build up, then go into the ASave folder at the end of day and trash them, keeping maybe the first and definately the last one for the day.
And don't use reference movies.
Oh yeah, another thing is to actually make a copy of your project file at the end of the day and copy it to another location, even off the CPU (any disc format).

Riddle me this about the iphone 4 antenna problem....

I upgraded to an iphone 4 from an iphone 3g. My wife still has an iphone 3g.
We were having dinner at a restaurant which is in the basement of a building. My wife didn't have any bars with 3.12 firmware while I had bars on my iphone4. I actually received a couple of text messages during our dinner. (that's how I noticed I had coverage).

I would like to further state that in surrounding towns where I live, I have experienced the death grip issue in weaker signal areas.
I believe that (at least in the US), ATT cel towers either need a hardware upgrade or software upgrade to fully be optimized for the iphone 4.
Essentially, I think the death grip issues are tower specific.

A few months ago, my 2008 Aluminium 24inch Imac locked up and exhibited space invader style pixels all over the screen.
After rebooting, it was fine for a while and then it would freeze again and I'd get the same Atari style pixels appearing, and everything would be frozen.
Then, most reboots after that, I would get vertical lines in groups of three, alternating black and white squares as in the photo.
I called Apple here in South Australia, and they said "it's your graphics card, and it will cost $400 to fix and we need it for a week".
Not wanting to do that, I bought a $15 firewire cable, booted the Imac in T mode and used my PC laptop running macdrivepro to save all my files onto a 500gig backup drive, and then proceeded to fix the corrupted kext files and most importantly delete the recent flash player update which I believe was causing the problem.
Booted her back up, and she ran perfectly. For a few weeks, until it started again.
So I re-installed the Leopard operating system from the original disks, and that fixed it. $15 is better than $400.
Now, a few months have passed, and the problem had come back again, now that I have added more stuff on my computer.
This time however, I chose to wipe the drive completely and do a fresh install of Leopard, and then upgrade to Snow Leopard.
The problem is that it won't boot from the CD drive anymore, won't boot from a thumb drive, won't boot in any mode except T mode, but then it has these lines on the screen again and eventually I get the kernel panic happenning and it wants to be shut down.
Every time I start the computer, these lines IMMEDIATELY appear. I've tried resetting the Pram, tried changing memory and have now resorted to surgery.
I've taken apart the Imac, yes I hear you Apple...you guys thought that we mortals wouldn't delve into the depths of your finely machined systems, however, some of us do own micro torx head tools to remove those pesky screws, and yes, a razor blade does lift up the magnetically attached screen glass without having to use suction pads.
So once inside the temple of doom, I removed the hard drive, and dropped it into a hard drive dock.
After days of messing around with it via four other MAC computers, running Tiger, Leopard and Lion, we have still not been able to install an operating system back onto this drive.
Does anyone have any insight into what these lines actually are? Every one I speak to says a different thing...
"It's the graphics card", "It's the hard drive", "It's the cable that connects the LCD screen", "It's the motherboard", It's the screen itself", "It's a corrupted bios" etc etc..
But if it's any of those things...then why did it run perfectly after I fixed it the first time?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

My spider sense was tingling, as were my eager fingers to login and read your reply, in fact I was almost salivating at the thought of crushing those Apple reps with a swift blow from one of my megalithic old 4gig internal drives, or better still, perhaps shooting my old DX266 sporting a massive 256k HD and 4mb of ram, fully loaded with Encarta and Windows 3.11 out of a cannon and straight into Steve Jobs bedroom window, with a note saying..."How'd ya like them apples..".
But alas, my Aquatic friend, I am in need of a functioning operating system to be able to do any of those magical tricks you suggested (insert frown face here)..and yes, when I finally opened up the Imac and peered inside, a moment not unlike Indiana Jones peering down into the depths of the Well of Souls, I suddenly realised that an Imac might look impervious to heat vision and thermonuclear devices on the outside, but inside they can still gather as much dust as my infinately useless ZIP drive that I bought back in the late 90's, thinking it was the best thing since the invention of microsoft paint...awesome program by the way guys..
Getting back to the problem at hand, the issue really is that I have, perhaps stupedly, reformatted the 500gig WD drive via a hard drive dock, which is really a lot like one of those early 1950's cassette drives you find in vintage cars..
And upon returning the drive to the Imac and re-assembling it WITH REAL SCREWS, not titanium-alloy fingerprint encoded ones like you would expect to find in Iron Man's suit, I could only boot the poor thing into T mode. No other modes were available, and believe me, I tried all of the alphabet...even the "C" button, which if you ever watched an episode of Knight Rider called Knight of the Juggernaught, did not turn my computer into a convertable..
By now you're probably sensing that the irony of all of this is that I am typing this message on my Windows 7 upgraded HP laptop, which sounds not unlike a jumbo jet taking off at times, the fans are so loud, and among other things, it keeps telling me it is not genuine, even though I paid good money for a proper copy to free me from the painful experience which was Vista, and so in a sense, microsoft is playing a small part in the desperate rescue of it's far superior, yet broken down and busted arch enemy...I bet somewhere in it's RAM, it is smiling in little ones and zeroes, while it hides behind a free copy of AVAST, hoping one of a billion nasty viruses don't come knocking on the kernel door..
The next round of drinks goes to the man, woman, child or droid that has any other suggestions that could allow me to participate in some of the ideas put forward by our very knowledgable watery friend..as alas, I do not have any of those options available to me.
Today's assignment is.. how do we install an operating system on a formatted external drive. Sounds easy doesn't it...I've read many articles, but in practice it's proved as elusive as Bigfoot.
I just cannot make this hard drive understand that there is no spoon...

"Top Sites" capability GONE after upgrading to Safari 4.0.3

In a nutshell:
I've been running Safari 4.X June 09 with Top Sites becoming a key tool in everyday use, and a cool one at that. Top Sites worked on 15 August, did the minor rev upgrade from 4.02 to 4.03 on 16 August, and the Top Sites function is GONE on the 17th.
The rest of the story:
Upgraded to Safari 4.0.3 last night and to my dismay the TOP SITES function is now just GONE. No explanation, no warning, just "poof."
Read through the discussions, read through the support pages, took the immediate advice to reinstall...then tried the instructions for deleting select files under under com.apple.safari...et cetera...No Joy, 2 hours lost.

So Let me get this straight...I accept a minor rev upgrade, from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3, and LOSE functionality? Really, guys?
I lose the functionality, apparently, because the Intel GMA 950 is apparently not Quartz Extreme compatible.
Ok, then, riddle me this Batman: the support article above is dated June 2009. I've been running Safari 4.X since then with top sites working quite well under 4.0.2. My early adopted 2006 Mac Mini hasn't changed since it's manufacture.
What's going on? What am I missing? Anyone else seeing this?

Does your iMac have an Intel GMA 950 chipset? If not, then your comparison is not valid. If it does have the same chipset as my Mac Mini, then you may have eliminated a possibile cause. (same os + same chipset=reasonable assumption)
The central issues is still the loss of major functionality under a minor rev change.
What changed? The requirements for Top Sites to work? Then why did it work for me under 4.0.2? According to the article, Inel GMA 950 is not specifically named as supportable and therefore the function should not have worked at ALL when safari 4.0 was installed. NO Mac specific drivers from Intel at Intel's web site. Have NOT seen any under the apple support pages, but I could be missing them.

NForce firewall won't install

I just bought an AMD athlon 64 3500+ and paired it with an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum.
When trying to install the firewall drivers I get this error:
"Error 1609. An error occurred while applying security settings. Users is not a valid user or group. This could be a problem with the package, or a problme connecting to a domain controller on the network. Check you network connection and click Retry, or Cancel to end the install."
And only an OK button. When I press OK I get this error:
"Error: -1603 Fatal error during installtion.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."
And then the installtion quits.
Is there anyone but me that have got this error? Did you in that case solve it in any way? Appreciate all help...

I'm in the loading process on my K8N Neo2 NF3. Coupla' days ago read in "Quick Users Guide" pg 6-4:
"Then the following screen displays the installation of NVIDIA Firewall and ForceWare Network Access Manager. It is a software firewall to protect the softwares (sic) from hacking. Hovwever, it is strongly suggested that you do not install this component for you have to search other PC with its IP address instead of its PC name in your local network. Click No to continue."
Riddle me this: A big deal was made of nVidia's firewall, then the User Manual states "do not install". Sheesh.
Well, it is what it is, wasn't the reason I bought it anyway. As always, I'll have a 3rd party Firewall (and AV) in my box whatever the make or model it is.

There was away (before Mavericks) I could single click on an email and it would highlite but not open. I could either delete or second click and the email would then open. Can anyone tell me how to configure the prevue pane to that end with Mavericks?

With Mavericks that doesn't seem to be available making it impossible to delete an email in the prevue pane before I open it. Its frustrating to have to go through all the monkey motions when I know I want to delete it from the get-go. Does anyone know who to configure for that operation? I'm using an iMac.

I run TWO programs for protection of my MAC now and have been for sometime b/c developers of them become complacid thinking MAC is impermeable.
My MAC locked me out of it and two externals and when I finally did get back into them Norton Anti-Virus found a "worm." When I asked the program to find the origin, it was traced back to an email, as you said, that I opened unintentionally. I still have two external HDs for backup and a cloud backup now.
When ClamX ran after Norton was finished, ClamX found what it called as "spyware," and it's origin was in my email also. I tried to delete the emails after the programs (both) identified the infected files, however once deleted and the computer is restarted, they were still there because I ran the scans again.
Now since we are no longer talking about how to turn on and off the view pane in apple mail; riddle me this, why can't the developers of these antivirus and antispyware/malware programs get together and develop ONE PRODUCT that catches 90-95% of the viruses/worms/spyware/malware ect that get onto MAC's? Is it because they are too busy thinking they don't exist?

Need to trigger Save in ME22N - ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST

Hello fellow gurus,
Riddle me this: How can I trigger a SAVE in ME22N in the context of BAdI ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST?
I have created a custom tab at the Header level so that our users can put data in the fields and populate the fields in the Purchase Order with that data. The data saves correctly if a field in the PO is changed, but it does not work if only the fields in the tab are populated.
I am calling the set_changed method and I've tried doing a set_data in the POST method.

Yes, they are saved when we run ME21N and when we use ME22N to add a line to an existing PO. It is only when we use only the values in the tab that it doesn't work. I think that since we're not actually touching a field on the screen, it's not triggering the Save functionality.

Crap Throughput on MESH

Ok, so I have two WLC5508 controllers running 7.0.230.0, which having the two of them probably is inconsequential because all the APs are added to only one controller. The problem I'm facing is that I have several LAP1552E's deployed throughout my facility, and I have several that are doing Ethernet bridging to some Cisco switches using G0. In this, I have a PC at the end of one of these switches, and using Iperf and PingPlotter to get some metrics, and what I'm seeing is >400ms latency with <3 Mbit throughput to the PC. On the 802.11a radios I have 18 Mbit set as mandatory, with everything below disabled and everything above Supported, with all MCS indexes under 802.11n enabled. My channel is set to 161 with a 40 MHz channel-width, and a power of 3 configured.
So, riddle me this... After many days of trying different power settings, channel settings, and such, I can't get better results than above and my channel utilization stays > 75% at all times. I do have video cameras attached to the other bridges switches, and have video QoS set to Bronze and the cameras configured to ~ 1 Mbit bandwidth maximum. What the heck am I missing?
Also, average RAP-MAP distance is ~ 1100 ft and average MAP-MAP distance is 400 ft, with the longest RAP-MAP being 1400 ft and MAP-MAP distance being 875 ft.

I haven't gotten the sniffer installed yet, but I have a new piece to the puzzle. I have some 3502i and 3502e devices on a separate bridge group and switch infrastructure, and today I was doing some unrelated work which required me to enable Ethernet bridging on the indoor RAP and MAP. Can ya guess what happened? I had everyone around me immediately come out and tell me the wireless just ground to a halt.
So, I disabled Ethernet bridging and all was good again, so I broke out Iperf on my laptop connected wirelessly and wouldn't ya know it that as soon as I enabled Ethernet bridging my throughput went to crap. So, relating back to my crap throughput on the outdoor MESH, yep, you guessed it, Ethernet bridging is being used. I plan to confirm my results by turning off the Ethernet bridging on the outdoor MESH and see if my throughput comes back. Granted that doesn't address the high channel utilization, but I wonder what will happen to the throughput.
Earlier this year when I moved to our new WLC5508 and the new 1552e APs, I had a lengthy TAC case because Ethernet bridging was causing some issues thanks to VLAN 1, but that's another story.

Console msg question

I have a brand new iMac, with 10.7.4 and wanted to check why Google's Chrome browser wouldn't start up after the iMac was turned off for the weekend.
I didn't discover what was wrong with Chrome but I did see Console riddled with this msg every 20 sec. Looking back this has been going on for days and days. Can someone tell me what it means? Is there something I need to do?

I think the ClamXav crash was under "User Diagnostic Reports", but I know I deleted that one as it moved to trash. Then there was another empty folder called "User Diagnostic Reports" there as well. I am guessing I moved it to trash, which is was then replaced by the greyed out version until sometime when some report is generated that goes in there.
I am set up as the only user.
I have two machines set up the same way. On the other one, that one is not greyed out.
If I selected the greyed out one, and chose reveal in finder, nothing happens (meaning it doesn't exist until needed now?)
