Ridiculous usage warning

Ok, so we have a 40GB usage limit, and we never exceed it, in fact we very rarely go anywhere near it.  Got an e-mail today that we are close to exceeding it for August, check our account and we have used 33.5GB!!  What the hell?
This absolutely has to be an error.  Have we been hacked?

Hi, thanks for the response.  Our usage is now 41GB and has gone over the limit, it's about 38Up and 3Down.
I rang up today and they told me 3 devices have been connecting to our hub, we have one computer and that's it.  No smartphones, no x-boxes, no nothing.  We haven't steamed anything on the TV, no downloads, no HD.  apparently 5GB was uploaded last Saturday when we were away for the night!
So, presumably we must have been hacked?  I think we are using the default wireless key, but the hub certainly isn't visible.
Anyway, the very helpful guy on the phone (albeit slightly hard work to understand) has turned our wireless off and is re-setting the key which we should get on Monday.  and he's going to remove the usage from these two random devices.
Anyone know how for a wireless network reaches?  Is this likely to be our neighbours or could it be quite some distance?
Fingers crossed it's sorted now, though it has been a bit of an inconvenice, especially as I had to hunt down a spare ethernet cable and move the computer half way across the front room just to get on the net.
Hi again.
As John said, being hacked is extremely unlikely - and frankly not correct.
As for your wireless key, that is for you to decide what to have, not the helpdesk. If you don't actually use wireless, then there is no need to have it on. You can set the wireless key whenever you wish, and any device using wireless will need to alter their settings to match.
Did the helpdesk say what these "random" devices were, and what usage they used ? I've never heard of anything to suggest that different devices actually had their own usage - to be honest, that is quite wrong. Devices can connect to your hub, but that is BTFon. That usage is recorded on the hub, but 100% excluded from your usage.
More interesting is the comment about the 5GB upload. If that figure given to you was correct, how did the helpdesk explain the usage you are currently seeing of 3GB up ? - unless you were given a usage of 5GB download rather than upload.
Something isn't right here, indicating a serious issue with either the information you were supplied, or that the usage monitor for your connection is recording other than your usage.

  • Usage warning for first day of month

Oh dear, I get the following warning for the first day of the month.
"You are within your June usage allowance but are likely to go over before the end of the month."
This after  0.45Gb use the first day.
My normal usage for nearly 2 years has been around 1.5Gb a month, except for May when I used 2.47Gb most of which was in the last 3 days of the month,  the reason why.... I bought a new computer and with all the updates it down loaded it pushed the usage up, hopefully now the updates will have completed.
Could anyone tell me if this is the case or am I in for more nasty surprises as the days pass. (new computer purchased 29/5/12) by the way I am now using wired instead of wireless I shouldn't think that would make any difference though!!!
    Thanks Patty-L

Actually, the BTVision element should never show on the online usage monitor. It will of course show on the hub usage.
This is, in my view, one of the reasons why the usage monitor is done daily in arrears, to exclude the relevant items such as vision and bbtalk.

  • High CPU usage warning, how to fix??

Hey all -- First off, my laptop is brand new, and it is a Satellite C875D - S7120, using Windows 8. So far so good, everything seems to be fine EXCEPT...I am an artist and I have a couple of 3D programs installed. But every time I try to use them I get a "High CPU usage" error, like the art program is taxing the computer too much. I'm not a gamer... it seems to me that simple 3D imagery wouldn't cause this. But how do I fix it? I'm not that computer savvy...I've heard about registry problems but wouldn't have a blind clue how to get in there and fix anything... PLEASE ADVISE!  -- Thanks in advance, Krystal

Ahh, Jerry, you are a friend in (my) need...will pounce on this ASAP! Twiddling around with this new device of mine is a challenge but also a learning experience. Probably the most important thing right now is NOT getting it 3D-ready but instead, teaching myself how to manage the innards...
Moki, someone on deviantART who is very skilled w/ Blender has said that they don't like the latest version because it is quite different from earlier versions. I haven't done anything with it in yonks, so once I get into it again, that shouldn't bother me. But it's true, "improvements" always seem to just weigh a program (any program) down instead of making it easier to use. That was why I have preferred older versions of some things instead of what's new out there, as the older ones are slimmer and not such resource hogs...
Disabling RayTracing...hmm! I shall definitely do that...plus try all the many other tips!  *bookmarks page* I could even try that on this old XP, since I have Blender installed here also.
So if Toshiba is strong enough to handle graphics projects way beyond my modest little ventures (I doubt I'll be making movies anytime soon!), I ought to be able to get this puppy set up for it without too much trouble....let us hope....

  • International Usage - WARNING - Outrageously expensive!

I bought a iPhone the day it was released, absolutely love it, and a week later went to Europe. The phone works great over there and so does EDGE, i.e just as slow as here..
Got home, received my first AT&T bill: THEY CHARGED ME $940 FOR INTERNATIONAL DATA ROAMING - TOTAL USAGE WAS 40MB.
I called AT&T and complained - I didn't recall the promo for "unlimited data" clearly excluded international - was told "they happen to have a $24.99/month international data plan for the iPhone with 20MB of data" - no unlimited data plan was available, even though you can get one if you have a 3G card for your laptop.
Also, while international roaming IT WILL COST YOU 50 CENTS PER SMS YOU SEND AND 15 CENTS TO RECEIVE ONE - NO PLAN IS AVAILABLE!
The end of my story was I got 20MB for $24.99 but I had to pay $470 for the other 20MB.......
So if you plan to use your iPhone internationally:
    - Tell everyone not to send you SMS's and don't send one yourself
    - Don't use Google Maps, Safari or Mail, unless in Wi-Fi zone
    - Alternatively get the 20MB plan
I can only conclude current AT&T policies is a total rip-off when it comes to international usage. Maybe it would be cheaper to get an account with the European carrier later this year. AT&T surely needs some competition.

I am sorry to say that I told everyone so (among others who did the same). The iPhone is NOT a good international device. I posted several comments on this. Be aware that it is not just downloading items yourself, Internet use or email/messaging. The iPhone has a serious operational deficiency in that constantly updates the weather, clock and stock Widgits throughout the day. Over a week or two this can add up to hundreds of KB and you have no control over this. (I bet at least 30% of your charges are foir this, Check your datalogs and look for weird data access times such as in the wee hours of the morning).

  • Usage warning emails

Have BT changed the criteria as I have now received two emails - one for exceeding 6gb and now one for exceeding 8gb.

I was checking the usage monitor this morning and there was a message that an email had been sent yesterday because I had exceeded 6GB. I have yet to receive the email.

  • Broadband Usage Warning E-mail

I have just received a no reply e-mail from BT telling me that I am in danger of using up my 10GB allowance for this month. However, the e-mail has gone to the address that I used to have before switching to BT on 19th May this year, this e-mail address does not exist anywhere in my BT account as I have swapped this to my new BT address (fortunately my old ISP hasn't closed down this e-mail yet!).
Can anyone shed any light on this?

If you look at your the information you received when you ordered your BT Broadband you will probably find that you used that email during the ordering process. In fact you should find that an email was sent to that email address confirming your original order.
I do not know how you can change that email address but I am sure someone in the community probably knows.
PS. I have found this  on the BT.Com website:
We'll also send you an email to make you aware that you are approaching your maximum usage allowance. The email will always be sent to the primary btinternet.com address that was set up when you ordered broadband. We'll also send an email to any other contact email address you've given us. To make sure you get the email, you need to keep us up to date with this second contact email address.

  • What's up with data usage on the iPad over LTE?

I am using the new iPad. This is not my first as I have had an ipad since version 1 (at first with a VZ Mifi, though now I have the one with LTE). When I first set up this iPad i did it on a prepaid account and so I have a baseline of experience (both with the mifi and with built in cellular) that is nothing like what I have experienced recently.
When I first activated, I averaged 1GB of data use. I activated on prepaid as I thought I might actually turn it off once in a while and I didnt want to have to go through VZ to do that - I don't have an hour+ to waste in store every time i want to do something with my devices. I later decided (silly me) I was not ever going to turn off the data, so why not put it on my regular plan.  The real rub here is my data usage still didnt change. I leave both radios (wifi and cell) on all the time. So when I am home, I am wifi, when i am out, I use cell.
The odd thing here is, since LTE has come to town, my usage has tripled. Now, some of this is because I have once or twice watched a movie or streamed some audio. But as this has happened only once or twice in a month, it does not explain lump data charges of 500-1,000mb charges hitting my device 5-6 times in a month. Consider this timeline:
On Saturday afternoon, I decided to use the NFL app to listen to an audio broadcast of the NE patriots game. I did so walking around town. I was easily streaming for 2 hours or more. According to VZW, the charge in data use for this (nearest to time) was at most 47mb.
Roll forward 2 days during which the two largest charges are 23mb and 13mb - I can even relate these charges to a couple apps I upgraded in that time frame and some podcasts that auto downloaded.
I see that at 3am on 9-18-12 I had data usage of 900mb. huh?
My wifi is always connected when I am at home
Even if, as some suggest on here, the wifi turns off when the device sleeps
There were no updates to be found
Movies don't download over Cell as they are over 50mb (though they will stream I think)
IOS does not allow podcasts or software updates over 50mb anyway so if it was either of those, it would have had to be like 30 of them!
I have a couple of theories:
Verizon charges for data as far as timing are way off. They really don't know WHEN data is being used. The system posts involve lags in update of data from towers. (server to server transmission, whatever)
There is a problem with LTE usage stats on Verizon. I am tempted to turn off LTE for a while to see if the usage goes down.
I don't want to turn off my cellular all the time as that defeats the usability of the thing. I just want it back the way it was and for these phantom charges to stop. There is nooooo way my ipad used 900mb overnight by itself. There just isn't that much data to be had to bring into the thing when I am not using it.
Please reply to this with answers only if you KNOW something. I know many will want to be helpful, but if you want to be really really helpful, you will differentiate speculation from fact.
Has anyone else noticed that LTE data usage is higher? (and not just because having faster speeds makes you want to do more stuff)

Sorry Tominique, great answer to the question I didnt ask. I know how to add data to my plan.
My point is, my usage pattern has changed little. yet I am using at a rate 5 times what I was before. And I rarely stream content so I know thats not it. And the times I do, does not coincide with those ridiculous usage figures.
I get that having more bandwidth will open a stream "wider" so to speak and cause more data usage in order to get better quality. However, in the case of Audio, that extra usage doesnt even come close to justifying these kinds of figures. Much less when posting at 4am when I am fast asleep.
And forgive me for being a bit curt, but does my post read like I needed to be told that using wifi will save me cell data usage? I know it was pretty long, but at least read it carefully before proposing something so mundanely simplistic.
And Brian68- Yup, I agree Spot on with you on song size. A 10mb song is a 10mb song. Doesn't matter how fast the stream is. I could see music being compressed, but it most definitely doesn't get any bits added just because the bandwidth opens up. lol What? VZW somehow upgraded my itunes match content from 256kb up to lossless? doubtful.

  • Unusually High Usage?

I received a high usage warning on 19 Dec and within one day the usage had gone from 32Gb to 45Gb.  As we only use Bb for web pages You Tube and Facebook does this seem too high.  Admittedly son has been on You Tube a lot in the last few days but have used nore than in the whole of last month.  Guidance appreciated.  Thank You

  • Unfair blocking of my Skype Account

Yesterday morning I received a fair usage policy violation warning from Skype. Firstly there is no explanation of why was there a policy violation.  My usage of skype has been the same across the last 3 years.  I have an unlimited subscription for calling India.  Having read the policy for fair usage, I don't see any usage violation I have made. Today morning at 1 AM I receive a 2nd message from Skype saying there is a policy usage violation blocking.  Whoa, I don't understand this.  Between yesterday and today I made 5 calls, none of those are different to any of the calls made in the past.  What is the reason for the violation then? I haven't shared my skype details with anyone and yesterday when I saw the warning message, I thought someone could have hacked in, and therefore changed my password as well.Suddenly today I get the fair usage policy violation blocking email and I am completely taken by surprise. I would like to state the following:Fair usage policy warning and blocking messages should not be one way traffic. It should involve interaction with the customer. There should be some way that it should allow the customer to interact with the skype staff to understand the root cause for the problem.Fair usage blocking can't be just immediately done. It's unfair on the customer. For all you know the customer hasn't even understood the reasons for why these messages came up and what behaviour needs to change. There should be some time between the fair usage warning, education session for the customer and the blocking. It allows the customer to display a change in behaviour. This is especially important because the customer might not know areas they are making errors. These are all in line with expected customer relationship management requirements.  Skype has just taken all my subscription money for a year and now sitting on it saying we are blocking your account!  There is no explanation of which part of the policy is violated either. When you fill a form to put the complaint through, some absurd questions are asked.  What is the whole point of asking the customer the year of creation of skype account?  How will a customer remember stuff like that? I would like for skype to action this immediately and resolve this problem.  You can't incovenience the customer just like that.  I have read the community blogs and understand that in the last few months this practice from skype has signficantly increased.

Same thing happened to me today. For the same India unlimited calling. I believe shoe is unfairly trying to push people out of this legacy plan which is no longer available for purchase.
Today I also had a chat with the Skype customer care representative and registered a complain. But to my surprise I also did not get any complain number so that I can follow up on the complaint.
True corporate bullying on part of Microsoft and Skype.
Did you get any resolution to your problem.

  • BT can't find my broadband package - Help/advice n...

    Hello
So glad I found this forum – I'm in need of some help before I go mad!
I have been a BT internet customer for nearly 10 years.
The trouble started at the end of July when I tried to add BT sport free (I have Sky). I couldn't do it online, so I went on online chat and they said I didn't have a broadband account with them. After an hour of me trying to convince them that I am a customer, they finally said they couldn't help me other than to suggest I talk to sales to add broadband to my account – I already have BT broadband!
I then emailed the residential customer services team via the complaints route to express my dismay at the poor treatment of a long-term loyal customer and to request that they intervene and sort the situation out for me.
They repeated that I only have landline showing with them and asked whether I had another account number. My internet has always been billed separately to my phone account, but looking through all my documents I couldn't see that I'd ever had an account number for my internet service.
I discovered when I looked at my account in BT Yahoo email, that I was still on the BT Yahoo Anytime Plus service, but there was no account number to be seen anywhere. Like many people on this forum I received occasional emails from BT at the end of 2011 saying that I would be transferred to BT Total Broadband Option 1 at some point, but this obviously never happened.
On reading this forum I discovered that there are a number of people like me who have 'unaligned' accounts where they're still on an old service that is billed separately and not linked to their MyBT account. I also read on this forum that someone had managed to find their separate internet account number by checking their bank statement direct debit info. I did this and managed to find an account number (starting GB followed by 8 numbers) but I've tried to use it online myself and it isn't recognised, so I've emailed the residential services team with this number.
They haven't replied to me yet – it's well past the 72 hours they're supposed to reply in – and I've got a strong feeling they're just going to say they can't find the account number on their system. If they reply at all.
Interestingly, I went onto my BT Yahoo email account page today and my internet product had changed from BT Yahoo Anytime Plus to BT Total Broadband Option 1.
Now, I don't know if my message has triggered some action at BT's end, but if it has they haven't told me. My big concern now is that my BT Yahoo Anytime Plus was unlimited with no contract and it now looks like I've been moved to a product with a tiny 10GB limit. I run an online business so I'm rarely offline and I'd exceed my limit within a few days. I'm worried that I'm already exceeding my usage, and if I hadn't looked I wouldn't even know I'd been moved.
All I want is for BT to recognise and merge my accounts, and then I can upgrade to an unlimited package (which will cost less than what I'm paying now anyway). And then I can also add BT Sport, to which I'm entitled and not able to get because BT's systems are rubbish.
I'd thought about simply cancelling my existing direct debit and ordering a new broadband package, but I really need to keep my email address as I've had it for years and I use it for business.
I've seen that there are lovely mods on this forum who can help, so I'm hoping one can come to my rescue before I pull all my hair out – I've got nowhere so far and it's been more than 6 weeks since my intial contact with BT.
Apologies for the length of this message!
    Many Thanks,
    Justine
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello again
Can anybody tell me how long it normally takes for the mods to reply to a contact form please?  I submitted an enquiry via RobbieMacs's profile link on 18 September and have not yet received a reply or acknowledgement.  Does it normally take a few days to hear back from them?
My problem has also worsened.  As I mentioned above, someone has been tinkering with my account because last week I was moved without warning from BT Yahoo Anytime plus service to BT Total Broadband Option 1, without being informed.  Then on Friday I received a 'Welcome to BT Broadband' email (I've had BT Broadband for nearly 10 years!), and last night I for the first time ever in nearly 10 years I received a usage warning.
So, not only has my account been moved without telling me, but I've been moved from an unlimited service to a capped service (for the same price) and I'm close to reaching my limiit after a few days usage.
But, despite the behind-the-scenes tinkering, my internet product still hasn't been merged with MyBT account so I cannot access it online to upgrade to an unlimited package, and I cannot call them as they will just tell me they have no record of me having broadband with them (I've been told this too many times over the last few weeks and it drives me crazy everytime - it's as if they think I'm making it up!).
I'm so close to jumping ship to Virgin, and I think if I start incurring extra usage charges because I've been moved on to a product I currently have no control over, it may well be the last straw!
    Thanks,
    Justine

  • Translation fails missing present pin

    Dear Community,
I hav a rather odd problem with the translation tools. I am re-designing a bridge between aurora and a PCI connector. I have been using Aurora successfully in other projects with the same board for a while now and thus am reasonably certain that all connections and settings are correct in this respect.
However when building this new design signals get cut off and are not accepted as correct by the translate tools leading to errors in the translation stage. The synthesis report appears to be fine, at least I could not find any obvious errors/problems.
However when I try to translate the report immediately starts of with ridiculous warnings:

sfp_disable_o is the first pin that throws the error (there are more), however the warnings before that should already not be appearing. Especially the
This constraint cannot be distributed from the design
objects matching 'NET "sfp_rx_n"' because those design objects do not contain
or drive any instances of the correct type.
I do not understand, because the design is exactly the same as in my previous design (basically the signal is directly fed into the aurora core.
What is different this time as opposed to previous designs it that I am using the aurora core not in the top_module, but in a submodule. In that module there is a <sfp_disable_o<='0';> assignment, which should be fed to the top and prevent this error message from appearing.
I am 100% certain that spelling and connections are correct so I suspect that the tools have a problem with the output and input pins of aurora to be fed into a subcore before being assigned. However I do not understand why this appears. I tried keeping hierarchy (on and off) and IOB insertion, but neither is working.
I also tried going around this issue by applying an incremental_synthesis attribute to the subcores entity, which however did not have any effect. (I got the idea here mind you this is on a different topic: http://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Zynq-All-Programmable-SoC/ISE-translate-error-ERROR-NgdBuild-456/td-p/452654)
I  attached the two files relevant files, i.e. the top_module and the  subcore containing the aurora_core for reference.
Hopefully you can give me a hint as to why this problem is appearing. I refrained from attaching the synthesis and translation logs, because they tend to be very long, however if you need more information I can of course provide it.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

It looks like I just found the problem.
In the synthesis process options under "Xilinx Specific Properties" the Add I/O Buffers was unchecked(Probably from the way the original project was generated). Checking it caused the design to not have these errors.
From the XST User guide I wouldn't have expected such an error if this is unchecked. The only reason I checked it was because I wanted to set everything to default values.
I will accept this as a solution. Hopefully it helps someone in the future.

  • How is it possible to use data when you hardly even use your phone?

I just got an LG G3 phone yesterday afternoon and have 500 mg to use and have already maxed it out and have hardly even used the phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has data been used why I am sleeping and when I know 100% I am not even on my phone. I use my laptop for all internet. My husband doesn't even use the internet, and if he does I am the one that finds the page he needs, and he really doesn't even know how to use it. He has a basic flip top and doesn't want anything more. So, please help me understand how data is being used almost all day, all night, and even when we are sleeping and the phone is not being used for anything? As a matter of fact, I am on my laptop and can't sleep because of this!! My phone is in the other room and I bet data is being used right now. But, I know don't anyone uses that much data in a DAY and A HALF when the phone is not in use. I have had three phone calls all day and only one I answered and I made one call out, but data has been used all day. And I have had free 250 mg for probably at least six months and have used no data and now all the sudden when I have been on my laptop all day the data is used. Can someone please help me understand how this is possible?@

Phone default settings are Data Off, Playstore set to wifi update only and background data off for many apps. I have "My Verizon My Data app" and "Active Apps" app on home screen for monitoring purposes.  Something seems to infrequently activate the You-Tube and Chrome apps randomly. Cloud is turned off as I back up to Google and my computer. I have a number of other apps turned off as well and monitor "Data Usage" for unwanted app data consumption.  Also have data usage warning and shut off levels set in the phone. My plan is 1 GB and I am regularly using under .5 GB.
correction to above: my reference to  "Phone default settings" above is misleading.  That should be my worded as "My current phone settings:"  Unfortunately I am not permitted to edit my previous post.

  • Not receiving e-mail saying that i'm reaching my u...

    Evening All,
The e-mails warning me that I've gone passed 7 GB of my 10 GB allowance each month have stopped even though I easliy get to that each month.
Can anyone advise why ? I always check my spam and junk but no e-mail.
I think BT should at least warn me as they promise.
    Cheers

  • Archive with SCP

    Hi all,
I have been using automatic archive configurations with TFTP and it works great. However, I'd like to switch to SCP as the file transfer mechanism to improve security on the router and for the file server. I have a test router configured with:
    archive
    path scp://user:pwd@host/file
    time-period 5
This should automatically archive every five minutes with the specified username and password. However, it does not automatically archive, but I can manually archive by typing archive config. I visually watch the router successfully log in to the SCP server and put the file in the correct directory. Is SCP not supported for automatic archive or am I missing something?
    thanks,

    Hi again,
Is is what the output looks like when I perform archive manually:

  • I have recently experienced "waiting for" many web sites to respond or load. Using Bit Defender security, and both Chrome and Firefox 6. what's up?

I am running Vista. Updates are current. Recently installed Bid Defender security. Have reloaded Firefox 6 several times, Google Chrome also. both browsers say they are "waiting" for either the website, or some ad to respond much more often and longer than before. Any suggestions?

I could see music being compressed, but it most definitely doesn't get any bits added just because the bandwidth opens up. lol What? VZW somehow upgraded my itunes match content from 256kb up to lossless? doubtful.
