RMAN backup unable to write to share

Oracle 11gR2 OEL5 64bit
I am unable to execute my backups because the files cannot be written to the NFS share. The share has been mounted with 'oracle:oinstall' and '777' for permissions. However, I still get the following error:
ORA-19504: failed to create file "/rman/backup/prod/ctrl_file.bckp"
ORA-27040: file create error, unable to create file
Linux-x86_64 Error: 22: Invalid argumentI have researched different mount option on ML and I have tried them also, but I still get the same issue. It's weird because the last time I did this it worked and it was also able read and recover the files from the share.
Is there a mount option out there that works so that RMAN can write to an NFS share?
I used the following opton:
mount -t cifs -o username=winorcl,rw,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777,uid=1003,gid=1003 //myshare/oracletmp /rman/backup/prod/Just some more info. The 'winorcl' user has full RWX privs on the share. The uid and gid are for 'oracle' and 'oinstall' which in this case are the same.
Thank you.

  • RAC RMAN BACKUP Recovery FOR  Oracle APPS Application

    Hi,
    We have an Application which is similar to Oracle APPs application and We have a RAC Database at Backend.
    As I am a Oracle RAC DBA and never worked as an Oracle apps DBA.
    Each Week or month We have to deploy a patch on Our Database which are kind of sql changes to Database and before we applying we need to backup our Database.
    I am very comfortable while applying patches on Single instance Database:-
    I Usually shutdown my database and backing up My Database(Conistent\cold Backup) before applying patch.
    and I have a Flash back on both option I am having for my Database.
    Problem:-
    But in Production I have RAC Database, on which I already configured Hot Backup.
    FlashBackup Feature is there with me, but Not reliable.
    I want cold backup along with my existing hot backup, and want to restore same if something goes wrong.
    Since ASM is configured so we have only option RMAN backup.
    IF possible kindly Share your knowledge and Experience of your to handle Such Problem.

    Sir,
    RMAN is already configured for backing up database online.
    My only intention is to have cold or consistent backup before applying application patch, So that at the time of crisis I will resotre my Cold/Conistent backup.
    Because I am using 11gr2 RAC with ASM, so only option is there for me to use rman as backup tool.
    But I never tried to Have Cold backup in RAC environment in my previous jobs, and I am new to this Oracle APPS DBA technology. So Here I am looking for a Strategy that Normally oracle apps dba use while applying patch to Oracle Database and kind of backup strategy they use.

  • Unable to restore and recover my Database from RMAN Backup

    Dear All,
    Iam practicing RMAN in Windows environment.
    My configurations are
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 1; # default
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON; # default
    CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON; # default
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 'F:\Backup\%F'; # default
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET; # default
    CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION FOR DATABASE OFF; # default
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM 'AES128'; # default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'E:\ORACLE\DATABASE\SNCFORCL.ORA';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT 'F:\Backup\%U.bak';
    Then i took the RMAN backup, now iam shutdown my DB and removed one logfile..
    then i tried to startup the DB but it is saying
    ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 3 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 3 thread 1: 'E:\ORADATA\ORCL\REDO03.LOG'
    So i tried to restore the Database with my rman backup
    RMAN> restore database;
    But i am unable to restore my logfile in the Datafiles location where as all other datafiles are restored but redo logfiles are not restored.
    So, i am unable to recover my DB
    Please tell me whether i am doing any mistake, what is the solution for my problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Mahi

    All you restored was your datafiles.
    Now issue recover database and that will apply the archive logs.
    This is in the oracle documentation.
    "You must restore backups of these archived logs for recovery to proceed. You can restore either to the default or nondefault location. If you do not have backups, then you must performing incomplete recovery up to an SCN before the first missing redo log and open RESETLOGS."
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/osrecvry.htm
    In this case after issuing restore database in RMAN, then issue this.
    "Recover database"
    It will then be an incomplete recovery. They should have been multiplexed. Did you restore your controlfile with this backup? You may have to issue an "Alter database open resetlogs;"

  • Write a ms dos script for rman backup

    Hi all,
    i wanna write a dos batch file to take the rman backup..
    i have written one...actually there are 2 files. one is for login purpose...other one is for sql commands
    rman.bat-->
    rman target sys/sysadmin@hnbhrm @'c:\rm.sql'
    ==============================
    rm.sql-->
    configure retention policy to recovery window of 7 days;
    configure controlfile autobackup on;
    run {
    alter system switch logfile;
    crosscheck archivelog all;
    crosscheck backupset;
    backup database plus archivelog;
    DELETE NOPROMPT ARCHIVELOG ALL COMPLETED BEFORE 'sysdate -1';
    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE REDUNDANCY = 1;
    ========================================
    but i have problem in first file rman.bat. it doesnt run at all. but if i write sqlplus / as sysdba instead of rman thing.. then it works fine.
    can anybody tell me whats happening over there please..? Have i done this correctly? or u have some other simple way to do this...
    both files are located in C drive.. and oracle is installed to E drive... oracle path has set already.
    can anybody please give me a hand to solve this issue please...
    Thanks in Advance,
    Max

    write a ms dos script for rman backupImpossible. rman does not support MS-DOS. It is not a 16bit real mode application that can be run inside the MS-DOS operating system.
    So get your terminology straight - the Windows console is a character based 32bit virtual machine. It is not MS-DOS. It never was MS-DOS. Do not confuse the two simply because of superficial similarities. A stick-it note can be yellow - but because it is yellow does not mean it is a banana.

  • RMAN backup to network share and local at the same time ?

    Hi all,
    is it possible to force rman to backup database into two different locations ? one location would be network drive, another local directory.
    I was trying to do it with this script:
    run
    allocate channel c1 type disk format '\\10.236.196.247\BACKUP\%U' maxpiecesize 2g;
    allocate channel c2 type disk format 'F:\data\flashback\db_recovery_area/%U' MAXPIECESIZE 2g;
    backup database;
    backup current controlfile;
    release channel c1;
    release channel c2;
    what I get is my backup is split between these two locations... unable to recover database from one of them.

    Hi,
    You can check the documentation: Multiple Copies of RMAN Backups ;-)
    When backing up datafiles, archived redo log files, server parameter files and control files into backup pieces, RMAN can duplex the backup set, producing up to four identical copies of each backup piece in the backup set on different backup destinations with one BACKUP command. (Note that duplexing is not supported for backup operations that produce image copies.)
    There are three ways to specify duplexing of backup sets when using the BACKUP command:
    Specify a default level of duplexing with CONFIGURE... BACKUP COPIESAll backup commands that back up data into backup sets will be affected if you use this option, unless you specify different duplexing options for a command using SET BACKUP COPIES or provide a COPIES option for the BACKUP command.
    Use SET BACKUP COPIES in a RUN block All commands in the RUN block will be affected, overriding any CONFIGURE... BACKUPCOPIES setting, except those where you provide a COPIES option as part of the BACKUP command.
    Provide a COPIES option to the BACKUP command For this specific BACKUP command, files will be duplexed to produce the number of copies you specify.
    Cheers

  • Windows 8.1 System Image Backup - Unable to backup to network share due to unsupported "version of the file format"

    I have a Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit system that I am trying to make a system image backup via Windows 8.1's System Image Backup feature.
    The backup destination is a network share, but the image creation is failing with the following error:
    The version does not support this version of the file format
    After some investigation, it appears this is due to the network share (a Netgear BlackArmor NAS 220)not
    supporting sparse files. The consensus out on the web seems to be that your smb.conf file on the NAS needs to have strict allocate = yes added, in order to support sparse files. However, as far as I can tell with the BlackArmor NAS
    220, there is no way to edit the smb.conf file (and I'm not even 100% positive they're running Samba--but I bet they are).
    Some more searching revealed another possible option here:
    If you don't need to exclude files from your backup, use the "-allcritical" option in your command line. AS IN:
    wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:\backup1\backupdrive1\ -include:c: -user:administrator -password:xxxx -systemState -vssFull -allcritical -quiet
    This changes it to Block backup and gets rid of the error.
    I'm trying to do a complete backup, so no exclusions are wanted or needed. So, i tried this, and got the exact same error (only this time it was on the command line, rather than a GUI dialog).
    Is there any way to do backups to a network share that doesn't support sparse files via Windows 8.1's System Image Backup facility?
    Alternatively, is there a way to enable the strict allocate = yes on a BlackArmor NAS 220?

    Hi,
    When using BackupAssist to perform a backup from a Windows file system to a Linux (ext4 or XFS) file
    system, the backup can fail if the following conditions apply.
    The backup is running a system protection job to the Linux based NAS.
    The Linux NAS has sparse file allocation turned on.
    These two contition can cause the problem like yours.
    You can refer to the document which also contains an solution for further details.

    Hi,
    never tried it, but I know that the shared folders in vbox don't work like normal filesystems.
    I would rather setup an NFS server on the host and mount an NFS share in the guest.

    Cristian.
    PS. Sorry my bad english because I am from Latin America

    Requirements are:
    1 the backup should be accessible to both target and auxiliary database in the same location.
    2 On Unix this can be arranged through NFS, provided you set the read and write buffer to 32k.
    Obviously the backup can not be located in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs, as you can not mount a NFS directory over $ORACLE_HOME/dbs without loosing functionality.

  • Duration of RMAN Backup

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 - 64bit on Solaris SPARC.
    I weekly take level 0 backup on sunday, and then incremental level 1 backup each day in the week and archive log backups daily every after 3 hours.
    I want to know that how much time my level 0 backup on last sunday (i.e. 17april) took, how much incremental level 1 on 19april took, and how much time archivelog took during the date 20 april.
    I dont have log files of those RMAN backups so unable to get that info from the log files. I would appreciate if you share any query.
    would you please guide in that regard?

  • RMAN backup to remote disk in Windows

    Hi,
    I'm running Oracle 9.2.0.1 with Windows Server 2003 in both Server A and Server B. My prime DB is stored in Server A meanwhile my RMAN Catalog is in Server B. I’m running RMAN to do backup of the DB in Server A which is running out of space. So, I have decided to store my backupsets to Server B since I do have few hundred Gs there. Overall, I will push the backup script from RMAN Catalog in Server B and will store the backupsets back to Server B.
    My problem is whenever I run the script, no matter either from Server A or Server B, I’m getting the following error. Attached together is the RMAN configuration parameters.
    Error:
    RMAN> backup database;

    My Login ID exists in Administrator and ORA_DBA group in both Server A and Server B. I can manually run the path '\\ServerB\f$\drdb\backupset\’ from Server A and able to create/modify/delete a file inside this folder. But I don’t understand why getting the ‘Access denied’ error? Anyway, is this a correct way to do backup into remote disk? I’m quite new to Oracle and just attended RMAN course with OU. I have Google-ed this problem but none can assist me. Please do help me or share your knowledge to resolve this problem.
    Thanks & regards,
    Nesan

    Hi Andre,
    Yes you're correct, it's because of the Oracle service which run under Local System Account. I have went to it's properties and changed the logon details to my own Login ID which is Administrator for both Server A and B. Now my remote backup is working great...
    But does this changes will affect other apps/jobs/results in Oracle?
    Guys,
    If you have any better idea to solve this issue please drop into this thread or let me know if you find anything wrong on my solution.
    Thanks a lot for Andre.... You have solved my 2 weeks problem.
    Regards,
    Nesan

    CONFIGURE CHANNEL 2 DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT 'F:\RMAN_BACKUP\%d_t%t_s%s_FULL' MAXPIECESIZE 10G; # 2nd channel
    run {
          allocate channel chnnel1 type disk;
        allocate channel chnnel2 type disk;
    backup database tag Full_DB_090713_With_CH_02;

  • RMAN backup job showing problems

    We have scheduled RMAN backup jobs for Oracle full backups & incremental level 0 & level 1 backup. Among the recent status for jobs, I have found problems for incremental 0 backup for 2nd Dec ’13 and incremental 1 backup for 6th Dec’13. I would elaborate as below:
    For 2nd Dec ’13:
    The messages showing are-
    RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ORA_DISK_1 channel at 12/02/2013 01:02:41
    ORA-19502: write error on file "/orabackup/rman/snlprod/data_files/7voqfb9a_1_1", block number 763264 (block size=8192)
    ORA-27072: File I/O error
    For 6th Dec’13:
    The messages showing are-
    RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ORA_DISK_1 channel at 12/06/2013 01:12:00
    ORA-19502: write error on file "/orabackup/rman/snlprod/data_files/8moqpt4r_1_1", block number 1135616 (block size=8192)
    ORA-27072: File I/O error
    Request you to please help me with the reason for these error messages.
    I hope, my question is clear.
    Please revert with the reply to my query.
    Regards

    Hi,
    You should look at your systems logs (/var/log/messages on linux, errpt on AIX) to see which error you have exactly at the OS level.
    As Sybrand_b said, it is an error while writing a block on disk, so either a filesystem full or a corrupted block on disk.
    Do you have additional error message like follows?
    OSD-04008: WriteFile() failure, unable to write to file
    O/S-Error: (OS 112) There is not enough space on the disk
    Regards,
    Joseph
