anyone can help?use format command with backup.
eg:-
backup as compressed backupset database format '/u01/db/backup/%d_%I_%s_%T';
if it is archivelog mode then
backup as compressed backupset database format '/u01/db/backup/%d_%I_%s_%T' plus archivelog format '/u01/db/backup/%d_%I_%s_%T';
then copy the backup to the auxiliary instance server.
then try again the duplicate command. -
Rman Recovery using backup created using dbconsole
Thanks for taking my questions. First, I see there is another person asking about rman recovery but I am hoping mine is not identical.
BACKGROUND
Archiving and flashback is on.
Database is 11g.
Full on-line database backup is done using dbconsole (oem) and includes control, spfile and archive logs.
RECOVERY
I am testing my recovery to a new serve.
I installed oracle
Restored a backupset from one backup to the new servers flashbackup area.
Recovered the spfile ok
Recovered the control file ok
Found last seq number ok
Restore database ok
RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL SEQUENCE - NOT OK
Error=DATAFILE 1 MUST BE RESTORED FROM BACKUP OLDER THAN SCN
QUESTIONS
Where did I go wrong?
Could it be my rman backup didn't backup all necessary archive logs?
How do I fix this and can I fix it using dbconsole?
Also, is it still possible to fix the test server without loading any new files?
Thanks!
KathieHello,
To answer your questions, it looks like your backup is out of sync with SCN for datafiles with your Oracle 11g database.
What you need to do is first check the low SCN and current SCN for your database to that in your RMAN backup files.
You can check backups in RMAN command line with
RMAN> list backup;
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
List of Backup Sets

Then open another prompt window and SQL*PLUS session as sysdba privileged account:
SQL> select name, current_scn from v$database;
NAME CURRENT_SCN
ORCL 4089528
You need to make sure that you are trying to restore database with RMAN with a backup for the SCN numbers that are older than the current database SCN in database or Oracle will complain.
Enterprise Manager dbconsole will work but nothing beats the power of a command line.
Use the automated repair options for the Oracle 11g Database Repair advisors.
1. Connect to RMAN
rman target=/
RMAN> list failure;
RMAN> repair failure preview;
RMAN> repair failure;
For more details, Arup Nanda has a good overview of RMAN with Oracle 11g:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/oracle-database-11g-top-features/11g-rman.html
Hope this helps you out.

How to verify ?
Thank for help.Hi,
Can you please make sure the restore mechanism you are following is correct or not?
Mechanics of Restore Operations
RMAN automates the procedure for restoring files. You do not need to go into the operating system, locate the backup that you want to use, and manually copy files into the appropriate directories. When you issue a RESTORE command, RMAN directs a server session to restore the correct backups to either:
* The default location, overwriting the files with the same name currently there
* A new location, which you can specify with the SET NEWNAME command
To restore a datafile, either mount the database or keep it open and take the datafile to be restored offline. When RMAN performs a restore, it creates the restored files as datafile image copies and records them in the repository.

Backup Failure using OEM
I have oracle 9i (windows 2000 server)
I tried to make a fullbackup using OEM, it gives me NO error messages
I got result file with 890 MB (my Db is not huge),
but when I go back to the JOBs in OEM I found the status of the job FAILED
I tried to do the same thing using incremental backup level 0, but I got the same result
any Idea why the job didn't complete successfully
thanx in advanceUse command line -> rman .

If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use?
Hello,
I have a database 11.1.0.7 with 8TB. Block change tracking is enabled.
At the weekend I take level 0 backup and during the week level 1 cumulative.
For some weeks the level 0 backup is failing, so I only have level 1 cumulative backups taken every week day with a 4 weeks old level 0 backup.
If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use? Will it be the last level 0 backup with the last level 1 cumulative?
I ask this because grid crontrol tells me that the recent level 1 backups input size is smaller than last week level 1 backups and in between I dont have any level 0 sucessfull backups. Shouldn't the input size of level 1 cumulative increase until the next level 0 backup ?
The grid reports:

If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use? Will it be the last level 0 backup with the last level 1 cumulative?
From http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmvalid.htm
Validating Backups Before Restoring Them
You can run RESTORE ... VALIDATE to test whether RMAN can restore a specific file or set of files from a backup. RMAN chooses which backups to use.
The database must be mounted or open for this command. You do not have to take datafiles offline when validating the restore of datafiles, because validation of backups of the datafiles only reads the backups and does not affect the production datafiles.
When validating files on disk or tape, RMAN reads all blocks in the backup piece or image copy. RMAN also validates offsite backups. The validation is identical to a real restore operation except that RMAN does not write output files.
You can monitor what RESTORE VALIDATE does.
Make precautions, so you do not damage the production DB!!!

Time Machine backup failure on case-sensitive disk?
Hello,
I just started getting a Time Machine backup failure error that says "A disk you are backing up is case-sensitive, but the backup disk is not."
None of my external disks have changed and I've not added any new ones.
The error seems to be stemming from the fact that I'm logged in as multiple users on my system, all with MobileMe accounts. When I "get info" on all mounted disks, the only ones that are reporting "Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)" are the mounted iDisks from the other use accounts that I'm currently logged in as.
Does this mean I cannot use Time Machine while logged in as multiple users, all with the iDisks mounted? That would be a major annoyance to either have to log out/log in to each user as I need them or to disable iDisk syncing in my MobileMe prefs.
Regards,
TerryThat seems odd to me; my iDisk shows WebDAV as the format and doesn't interfere with backups, but I don't have any other users' iDisks, either.
Another possibility would be to reformat your TM drive as case-sensitive. That would, of course, erase all your backups so TM would start over from scratch, and some possible troubles when restoring (see the pink box in #5 of the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum, for details); but you'd no longer have the backup problem. -
We have an incremental level-1 backup Mon-Sat and cold full backup on Sundays with retention policy of 7 days. While troubleshooting some backup issues (space issue, expired backups) I ran the following commands and trying to understand the output.
RMAN> report need backup database;
RMAN retention policy will be applied to the command
RMAN retention policy is set to recovery window of 7 days
Report of files whose recovery needs more than 7 days of archived logs
File Days Name
100 146 /orahprdidx/hprd/psindex05.dbf
RMAN> report unrecoverable;
Report of files that need backup due to unrecoverable operations
File Type of Backup Required Name
RMAN> report need backup days = 7 database;
Report of files whose recovery needs more than 7 days of archived logs
File Days Name
100 146 /orahprdidx/hprd/psindex05.dbf
RMAN> report obsolete recovery window of 7 days;
no obsolete backups found
RMAN>
I looks like I need 146 days worth of archive log files to recover the psindex05.dbf. If so, what I could do to bring that into the 7 days policy?
The database is fine, I am not trying to recover the database.
This was setup by someone and now I am taking over with minimum RMAN experience.
I appreciate any help in this subject.The datafile was offline. I guess it was created my mistake and hanging in there. Once I do the cleanup it should go away.

hi gurus, I'm trying to make a system copy from WIN2000/ORA817 to WIN2003/ORA10g FOR R/3 4.6C SR2. During the system-copy, I change the SCHEMA-ID from SR3 to DEV, and now it's in new tablespace layout, which means there're no PSAPDDICD/PSAPDDICI
