If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use?

Hello,
I have a database 11.1.0.7 with 8TB. Block change tracking is enabled.
At the weekend I take level 0 backup and during the week level 1 cumulative.
For some weeks the level 0 backup is failing, so I only have level 1 cumulative backups taken every week day with a 4 weeks old level 0 backup.
If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use? Will it be the last level 0 backup with the last level 1 cumulative?
I ask this because grid crontrol tells me that the recent level 1 backups input size is smaller than last week level 1 backups and in between I dont have any level 0 sucessfull backups. Shouldn't the input size of level 1 cumulative increase until the next level 0 backup ?
The grid reports:
Backup Name Status Start Time Time Taken Type Output Devices Input Size Output Size Output Rate (Per Sec)

From http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmvalid.htm
Validating Backups Before Restoring Them
You can run RESTORE ... VALIDATE to test whether RMAN can restore a specific file or set of files from a backup. RMAN chooses which backups to use.
The database must be mounted or open for this command. You do not have to take datafiles offline when validating the restore of datafiles, because validation of backups of the datafiles only reads the backups and does not affect the production datafiles.
When validating files on disk or tape, RMAN reads all blocks in the backup piece or image copy. RMAN also validates offsite backups. The validation is identical to a real restore operation except that RMAN does not write output files.
You can monitor what RESTORE VALIDATE does.
Make precautions, so you do not damage the production DB!!!

  • So I need a laptop for college, which I will also use for personal use. I've decided to get a MacBook Pro without Retina display and am trying to decide the specs.

    Here are the things I will do with this laptop:
    -Writing essays for college (which will be a lot)
    -PowerPoints
    -Personal Writing (Stories and things like that)
    -Internet Surfing and Research (which means multiple tabs at a time)
    -Watching Videos and Streaming Anime (DVDs, Hulu, Crunchyroll, etc)
    -Downloads (PDFs)
    -I don't play games.
    So, with all of this in mind, what kind of specs and OS would be best? I will admit to not knowing a lot about computers and what's needed to do what I want, or much about the technicalities. I do know that I will be using 8gb of RAM, though I am not sure about HDD vs. SSD. I've basically been living off my iPad for Internet and stuff for the past two years and writing my papers at campus, but now that I'm going to be taking more English and writing-based classes, I'm going to need a laptop.

    There's only one non-Retina MacBook Pro being sold by Apple now - the 13" on the left of the Apple Store page for MBPs.
    If I were you, I would look for a refurbished 2012 15" from Apple. You can add RAM and a SSD (should you choose) yourself.

  • Which backup solution to use?

    I didn't see anything here, but only looked a few screens deep, so sorry if this comes up a lot.
    I just found out from reading here that I was running BOTH the Windows backup AND the Lenovo R&R backup. Nowhere does the computer warn about this (something that should be fixed, IMO).
    I deleted all the R&R backups and recovered almost 60GB of disk space.
    Can someone provide a link or an explaination as to which service is "better", or at least a comparison. From reading, it seems it is recommended to only run one of them. I saw one post which said R&R was better at recovering, etc, but I see other posts which says it just fails (for that person)...
    I have a 142gb drive (reported size for C  Thinkpad T61p purchased in Dec 2007, running Vista Ultimate with SP1
    Thanks.

    We are planning to migrate all backups from CA to Netbackup but since Oracle 8i is no longer supported by Netbackup so we need to use either RMAN or User managed backup .
    Can somebody guide,which backup solution to use on Oracle 8i (we will migrate DB to MS-SQL) so this will be temporary solution for DB backup.

  • How can i know which index will be used when executing the query ?

    1 ) I have query in which i have 3-4 tables but there multiple index on one column .
    so how can i know which index will be used when executing the query ?
    2) I have a query which ia taking too much time . how can i know which table is taking too much time ?
    3) Please Provide me some document of EXplain plan ?

    Hi Jimmy,
    Consider the below example
    /* Formatted on 2011/02/04 21:59 (Formatter Plus v4.8.8) */
    CREATE TABLE FIRST AS
    SELECT * FROM all_objects;
    UPDATE FIRST
    SET object_name = 'TEST'
    WHERE owner != 'SCOTT';
    CREATE INDEX idx_first ON FIRST(object_name);
    SELECT *
    FROM FIRST
    WHERE object_name = 'TEST';
    It has not used index
    Execution Plan
    Plan hash value: 2265626682
    | Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost (%CPU)| Time |
    | 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 58678 | 7334K| 163 (4)| 00:00:02 |
    |* 1 | TABLE ACCESS FULL| FIRST | 58678 | 7334K| 163 (4)| 00:00:02 |
    /* Formatted on 2011/02/04 21:59 (Formatter Plus v4.8.8) */
    SELECT *
    FROM FIRST
    WHERE object_name = 'emp';
    This has used the index
    Execution Plan
    Plan hash value: 1184810458
    | Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost (%CPU)| Time |
    | 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 1 | 128 | 1 (0)| 00:00:01 |
    | 1 | TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID| FIRST | 1 | 128 | 1 (0)| 00:00:01 |
    |* 2 | INDEX RANGE SCAN | IDX_FIRST | 1 | | 1 (0)| 00:00:01 |
    From this we can come to the conclusion that, whether to use one index or not by oracle
    would also depend on the data which is present in the table. This has to be this way as
    we see in the bind peeking, if oracle sticks to only one plan, say only use the full table
    scan, it would be a performance hit when it searches for the second query ie where object_name
    ='emp';
    2.
    If we have a query like below.
    select * from emp
    where upper(ename) = upper(:p_ename);
    Evenif we have the index on ename column, oracle wouldn't be able to use the index, as there is a function in the predicate column. If you need oracle to use the index, we need to create a function based index as below.
    Create index idx_ename on emp(upper(ename));

    Hi,
    You have followed the steps correctly while restoring and recovering the 9i database under 10g home using RMAN except the last step of opening the database.
    Remove 'alter database open resetlogs;' from the rman script and rerun the script. Once the database is restored and recovered, open the database with RESETLOGS & UPGRADE option through SQL*Plus as below.
    SQL> alter database open resetlogs upgrade;
    Once the database is opened, create the SYSAUX tablespace and run $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/ upgrd.sql catupgrd.sql script to upgrade the database to 10g ( follow the steps for upgrading the database).

  • 2008 macbook. In need of a word program, which one do i use?

    I have recently purchased a used 2008 macbook. I do not have a word program yet, and am unable to install the new pages program at the app store.
    Which program can i use for this computer?
    Thanks!

    If you can't install Pages it is probably because the system on the computer isn't new enough. Either you find on the net iWork 09 dvd which can be installed on your computer  or find another word processing program. You already have TextEdit on your computer but there are many "out there" that you can try.

  • If i have stuff on my phone and i connect to itunes and hit set up as new iphone instead of restoring from backup, will i lose everything i have on my phone

    i need to know what i should hit on itunes for my phone, it says set up as new phone or restore with backup, i dont want to lose what i have on my phone right now, i just want to put the music i have on itunes on my phone.... what should i do?!?!

    OK, we don't have the whole story, but it is likely that you previously synced the phone to a different computer. The iPhone can only be synced to one computer at a time; if you change computers the contents of the new computer will replace the contents of the old computer.
    If you restore with backup (assuming the computer you are using has a current backup) you will not lose any app content. If you restore as new you can then add music and apps, but you will lose everything else in your backup.

If we install the 1.4.2_13 that has the fix for the DST, which runtime will JWS run the appliction on, the latest 1.4 or the oldest??

    Hi,
    it will run the latest JRE that is at least 1.4. If it finds a 1.6 it will even run this, because the version is higher than 1.4.

  • Which backup type to use?

    Good day
    I need to schedule daily online backups of my SAP Oracle 10 system.  The default backup_type for online backups is "online" in DB13.
    However, it appears this type of backup is useless in a disaster situation, where I have lost an entire system.  I have not been able to get brtools to recognise this backup as a valid backup to restore a system from.
    Apparently, the backup_type should be "online_cons" to get a consistent backup from which I can restore.  The question then is, what is the function of backup_type online - i.e. under what circumstances can I use this? and, should I rather change table SDBAC so that all my backup_type for online backups is online_cons?
    I need to not only ensure that my data is backed up, but also that I can restore it properly.
    Thanks

    >> Do I run in any risk if all my backups are of type online_cons? Can I still do point in time recovery? If so what is the point of the "online" backup type?
    with the "online_cons" you just save the offline redolog files created during the online backup for the consistent backup. You need to start "Redolog backup" for the newly created offline redofiles, after the backup.

  • Need to take SQL Azure database backup into blob using dacpac services, the blob has to be encrypted.

    We are able to take backup of our database into blob storage using dacpac services, but we need to encrypt the blob data. Please suggest the efficient way to do it.

    Hello,
    As per my understanding, Windows Azure Storage does not transparently encrypt data or provide any special encryption mechanisms. Azure Blob Storage protect the data by using a storage key to control access to all data in that Storage Account.
    If you want to encrypt data of file inside Azure Blob Storage Services , you can refer to the following thread about same requirement:
