Rman to tape using netbackup doubts

Hi guys,
I have some doubts regarding backup with Rman to tape.
I´m using netbackup and already created a policy 'dwRman'

but when I run the script it generates the files on DISK
Is it necessary to set any of theese CONFIGURE commands ?

I have similar question.
I have configured RMAN backups using NEtbackup and ran few test backups and worked fine. I could restore and recover the database too(testing).
Everything works fine.
I would like to delete these test backups from RMAN repository and start real backups.

  • RMAN duplicate target using set until telling me it can not find data files

    I have RMAN scripts that I use freqently to clone a database from DB (production) to another (non-prod). These work just fine. I use the set until so that I can tell it at what point I want the new DB to be created from the backups of the source.
    I had a request to go back a few weeks and the backup files (I do compressed backups to disk) were on tape. I had my backup person restore my backup directory for the source DB as it looked on a certain day (May 28). I have an 8 day retention policy and so the backup files that were restored showed files all the way back to 5/20 ( includes the point I want to use in my set until clause).
    However, whenever I try to execute the rman clone, it tells me for each datafile:
    RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 1 found to restore
    Like I said, I am able to do this for a current backup that is on disk. I moved the backup files to the source db server and it works fine. However, from these files restored from tape it errors.

    What I am not sure is if the SCN I used in my set until sequence command was from 5/20, when I look at the backup pieces that it is reading to restore from, they appear to be from backup files taken from June.
    (e.g channel d1: reading from backup piece F:\BACKUPS\CSPROD\D3\CSPROD_DATA_6148 -- this is a 6/16 backup file).
    Also, as you can see it was not able to do a media recovery.

  • RMAN backups not using next available volume: uses next unlabeled volume

    Greetings.
    I've noticed that sometimes (haven't zeroed in on when yet) when RMAN backs up using OSB, the first tape in the library, an RMAN volume, is grabbed and backed up to.
    There are about 10 other RMAN-labeled volumes right below that first one. But RMAN will take an unlabeled volume further down in the library, label it as an RMAN volume, and proceed to back up to it.
    This is happening often enough where my library is filling up with partially used RMAN volumes.
    Three jobs (that I can see so far) are cron jobs calling an RMAN script. I'm looking for the other jobs which, I think, are run via OEM.
    Any thoughts?

  • RMAN backup testing using networker and NMO

    I want to do some RMAN backup testing using networker 7.5 and NMO 5.0. I am doing these testing on VMware. I am not sure whether I need to buy some tape drive for my home PC to do backup testing or I can mimic hard drive as tape drive in VMWARE.
    Do you have any idea? any suggestion please?

    I think this is not a RMAN/Oracle issue, as soon as you configure networker MML it's up to networker to define the real backup destination behind. Maybe networker has also a 'fake' tape destination,but I don't know this. There's a networker forum:

  • Can't Drag and Drop with a Double Tap using Single Finger in Lion?

    I installed the Mac OS X Lion two days. But I can't drag and drop with a Double tap using Single Finger, which I used to do in Snow Leopard.
    If I choose Three Finger Move, then Swap Between Pages goes back to "Scroll left or right with Two Fingers" that only works with Safari, but doesn't work with Chrome or Firefox.
    I tried literally every setting in Trackpad and also checked if there was a override settings and there is no overrride setting.
    Would be thankful, if you guys could suggest me what to do?

  • Syncing Logic and multitrack tape using smpte/mtc

    Has anyone managed to sync Logic to multitrack tape using smpte/mtc without major drift ? If you've tried this, let me know your experience.

    Never had a problem with wow and flutter - but I guess it depends on how good the tape machine is. I use a Studer A827, so it's not been an issue for me. I just use striped tape, usually at 15 ips, to record the basic tracks, and transfer a reference mix to PT and/or Logic, and transfer those files to Logic and carry on with overdubs, and only use the 24 track tapes again when it's time to mix. I'm not doing anything complex like sound to picture, or chasing the tape in the rest of the recording, so there may be issues lurking which I don't encounter.

  • FCP Crashing When Printing to Tape Using Audio Follows Video Setting

    I'm trying to Print to Tape using the Audio Follows Video setting from FCP. I am using a Sony DSR-11 Deck and a Mac Pro. I was able to Print to Tape successfully earlier today, and I have done it successfully many times before. Every time I try to Print to Tape with the Audio Follows Video setting, FCP crashes. Actually, every time I play audio from the timeline using the Audio Follows Video setting, FCP crashes. I have deduced that the problem must be with the Audio Follows Video setting, but I'm not sure what to do to correct the problem. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

    I have two hard drives. One is 250GB the other is 750GB. I have my applications on the 250GB drive. All of my media is on the 750GB drive. My computer is brand new, so I haven't even come close to filling the drives.
    What is the format of the media you are trying to send out to the DSR?
    I'm going Firewire out of the Mac Pro to the DSR11 to a Mini-DV tape.
    Have you tried doing a crash record?
    I would rather not do a crash record if at all possible. I know that is a back up option, but I also know that my system is capable of working properly.

    no, im not restoring datafile to different location.
    this is what i encounter after a successfull restore and but failed recover.

  • Moving backed up file in disk to tape using RMAN

    Hi All,
    Is there a way in RMAN to move an already backed up file present in disk to tape?
    The scenario is as follows:
    RMAN backs up database to disk on week days initially. At a particular day, say during Saturdays, those backed up file (made on week days) in disk will be moved to tape (to clear disk space). I wish to know if RMAN has this capability to move the backed up file from disk to tape (FLASHBACK is not enabled in the database). This will help RMAN to restore the files from tape in case of restore/recovery. I don't want RMAN to take the backup on tape straight away.
    Oracle Database Version : 10.2.0
    OS : SunOS 5.10
    I'd be grateful if you can provide me with suggestions.

    RMAN will not move the already backed up files.
    Instead you can use CATALOG START WITH option to move the files from disk to catalog.
    Schedule this as a job then RMAN will move the backup files.

  • Erasing Tapes using RMAN

    I am running the below RMAN Script to backup my Database.
    run { 
    allocate channel LS type 'SBT_TAPE' format 'b_%u_%s_%p';
    backup ( database include current controlfile );
    backup ( archivelog all
    delete input );
    The backup is running fine.
    Now I am looking @ erasing the tape before backups.
    Can I do this using RMAN Script.
    i.e.
    Can my script be like
    run { 
    allocate channel LS type 'SBT_TAPE' format 'b_%u_%s_%p';
    send device type 'SBT_TAPE''SOME STRING TO TO TELL MY BACKUP SOFTWARE TO OVERWRITE MEDIA';
    backup ( database include current controlfile );
    backup ( archivelog all
    delete input );
    }

    You are able to erase your tapes by issuing "delete obsolete;" command. I'm talking about Rman 9i and above where you have specified the retention for your backups. But before you can issue command delete, you should allocate channel for you backup madia management (TSM, Legato,...) with special keyword "for manintenance".
    RMAN> connect catalog xxx/xxx@rman
    RMAN> connect target
    RMAN> allocate channel for maintenance type 'SBT_TAPE' parms='ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/app/oracle/tsm/config/tdpo_ORAX_backup.opt)';
    RMAN> DELETE OBSOLETE;
    RMAN> release channel;
    RMAN> exit

  • RMAN Backup to tape using Oracle Secure Backup

    I am trying to take 11g R2 (11.2.0.3) database backup using RMAN. I am using Oracle Secure Backup for configuring virtual tape library and virtual tape drive.
    Whenever, I am running the RMAN backup script it simply hangs. While checking the backup job status from Oracle Secure Backup web interface, the job status are displaying 'pending resource availability'.
    On, furthur investigating the job, the following error message are displayed,
    " Dispatching job to run on oradb. Drive or volume on which mount attempted is unusable".
    Library and Tape Creation:
    mkdev -t library -o -S 4 -a oradb:/vlib -v vlib
    mkdev -t tape -o -a ora11:/vt -v -l vlib -d 1 vt
    Not able to fix this error. Need help

    Are you sure, you installed the proper media management software? Check it:
    (1) cd to your $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory
    (2) Type sbttest test
    The sbttest is a standalone program which test to see if the MML(Media
    Management Layer) software is installed and can accept a data stream and return
    an identical data stream.
    sbttest will return 0 which indicates success or 1 which indicates an error has
    occurred. An error means it's not an Oracle problem.

  • Restoring Incremental Backup using Netbackup

    Need your help. We have a backup of our Oracle 10g Database(one full backup and one incremental backup). The full backup (level0) is done by Netbackup and the incremental backup is done by local rman.
    Now we want to restore the database. I have modified the script of Netbackup to restore the controlfile of incremental backup and allocate 2 channels for tape and disk. Our incremental backup resides in disk. Is the script we used below correct?

    Hi benjo,
    You cannot allocate two types of channels at the same time so you should try a three step approach.
    (Every time create a new connection to the target.)
    Restore controlfile
    No need for:
    send 'NB_ORA_CLIENT=prod01, NB_ORA_SERV=NAS';exit
    Restore database from tape.
    remove from your second run block
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch01 TYPE DISK;
    RECOVER DATABASE;
    RELEASE CHANNEL ch01;exit
    Than create a recover command with disk channels
    basicly remove the tape channel and restore commands from your second run block and add
    alter database open resetlogs;Regards,
