Roaming Profiles - Office 2013, RAID 5 Failure oh and a Headache!

Your RAID failed to rebuild so you have used the same drives and re-created the same type of RAID again? I would say start by fixing this first
Delete the RAID, move to a RAID that if it degrades will not fail on rebuild.
RAID 10 would be your logical choice here as its blazingly fast and magnitudes safer to rebuild

Hello People,Wondering if someone can give me some friendly advice. The roaming profiles which my users have are around 13MB, we also user Folder Redirection alongside. The only item which is Roaming is the AppData, now looking in the profile which is using the disk space, is folders which belong to Office 2013, Bibliography and Document Building Blocks. I have downloaded and installed the Office 2013 GPO templates, and I am finding it hard to redirect these files to their documents. What I want to achieve is, point them folders to. Documents which is the H drive, so let's say H:\Office Templates\BibliographyThe other problem I am having, is my RAID 5. After an incorrect shutdown because we lost power, my Server failed the re-syncing process, so what I did was backup the drive and I deleted all the HDD from the server which this RAID 5...

  • Office 2013 BUG report: undesirable components (and various hijacks) are installed against user's will and cannot be removed

Installing Office 2013 Pro Plus RTM x64 on a fresh Windows 8 Pro WMC system.
Used Custom setup procedure to install only the desired software, i.e. unchecking most of the checkboxes.
After setup, a lot of undesirable software got nevertheless installed although it was specifically UNCHECKED at setup time, e.g. "Office Themes", "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation support", "Compare Diagnostics blahblah" + a bunch of outdated truetype
    fonts.
No matter how many times we run again the "Change" setup from Windows' "Programs and Features" and uncheck these components, the setup routine does NOT uninstall them, with or without reboot etc. Basically, the Add/Remove function of the setup has NO EFFECT.
The setup also installs (offering no choice or notice to the users) a lot of undesirable bloatware e.g. some "Office Upload Center", "Spreadsheet Compare" etc. and several tasks (Office 2013 Sync-something stuff) & services & explorer hijacks (a greyed-out
"Skydrive Pro", what the...) AGAINST the user's will or consent.
These unwanted apps and hijacks seemingly cannot be uninstalled, not even kept from running and reenabling itself - except if killing the tasks using the Task Manager, then deleting (!) the files from their respective folders, in addition to editing the
registry to get rid of all this stuff. Of course the crap gets reinstalled/reenabled with any further launch of the office setup...
Reminds me a lot of bad practices by malicious software. :|
Office techs and engineers, PLEASE don't promise a customized setup option if it's for it to be snake oil... And don't offer a post-setup "Add/remove" or "Change" routine that has absolutely no effect whatsoever... And don't install unneeded/undesirable
useless features as tasks and hijacks that cannot be killed or get rid of...
Or at least please mention explicitely that you know better than users themselves, what they want and need and decide... :)
As a sidenote, the same issues were present with Office 2010 Pro Plus SP1 - Sharepoint stuff and office themes and all that jazz was already installed even when deliberately left unchecked, and could never be uninstalled afterwards.

    Hi,
First, I want to confirm with you that whether you install Office via MSI or Click to Run.
Only volume-licensed versions of Click-to-Run installations can be customized using the Click-to-Run Admin Tool. Retail versions of Click-to-Run, however, do not support the use of the Admin
Tool or provide any user interface based customizations to the product. These versions, for example, do not allow the user to choose what applications or features to not install or even the location of the installation files.
If you used MSI installation, then check to see the steps in the link below:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/install-or-remove-individual-office-programs-and-components-HA010354261.aspx
Note: We can’t remove Office programs individually after the suite has been installed. You must uninstall Office completely, and then reinstall it using a custom installation.
Also, here’s a link about Office Customization Tool changes in Office 2010, the
Office Customization Tool is part of the Setup program and is the primary tool that administrators use to customize an Office 2010 client installation:

  • Office 2013 on RDS, icon appears and dissapears

    Hello.
We have multiforest enviroment. Forest A ( there are accounts ) and forest B where are APPV mgmt and RDS servers. Users from Forest A login to RDS servers in forest B with no problem. We have domain group (say FS USERS) in forest B that includes users account
from forest  A and we publish MS Office for this group.
Every other application published for domain group "FS USERS" work, but MS Office 2013 not. When logging, Office icons for 8seconds appears and after that disappears ( i think when office intergration task run ).
When i publish office for group in domain B and
accounts that comes from domain B, office works.
    Can anyone recommend
    what to do, what check?
I enable debug logging but nothing special found.
    Thanks, Jan

Hello.Yes, jump to fully supported model.
I write before, we try it, 1 ODT per machine like we are using for any other packages.
    We end with error :
    The virtual application 'C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE' could not be started because the App-V Subsystem 'Virtual Shell' could not be initialized. {error: 0xC701525-0x54F}
    The virtual application 'C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE' could not be started because the App-V Subsystem 'Registry Staging' could not be initialized. {error: 0x78A00A0A-0xA0005}
The main and annoying  effect is when user logon, there popup dialog:
    Runtime Error!
    Program: c:\windows\explorer.exe
    R6030
    - CRT not initialized
I must run explorer.exe from task manager manualy ( CTRL+ALT+END) and after that office appears
There is empty RUNVIRTUAL entry in registry.
We have latest APPv subsystem. Appv-SP3, resp. 5.0.10107.0
Server is on clean install, W2008R2Ent
It doesn't matter if user is form forest or local domain, have redirected %APPDATA% or not.

  • Firefox opens multiple tabs while clicking on "Manage account" under File- Account in Office 2013 opens the right Tab and another random URL-Tab

I have office 365 installed. When I click on Manage Account under File->Accounts in office 2013, it opens 2 Tabs in Firefox.
    Tab1: https://office.microsoft.com/MyAccount.aspx?ver=15&app=winword.exe&MachineKey=02011-005-827906&fromAR=1
    Tab2: http://www.4a1.com/ ( which is random)
The version of firefox is 24 and set as the default browser.
    Operating System: Windows 7SP1
Already contacted Internet Service provider-Optimum, also the antivirus for security concerns but could not find anything from their end respectively.
The issue occurs on Windows 8 laptop also.

    Thank you for your reply.
(FYI: The above question was posted by a ''Microsoft Research Engineer'' and me since neither of us can figure out why this is happening. So the brain-bank on this is pretty big!)
I scanned with all of the above scanners. (Thank you for the links!)
I also scanned my system with Adaware, Super Antispyware, Norton Internet Security 2013, and Norton Power Eraser . . . and Kapersky v14 on the Windows 8 system)
NONE of the scanners reported anything other than the usual trackers.
Firefox was un-installed, re-installed, reverted back 4 versions ''and'' v3. Chrome shows the same result.
The Windows 8 system was wiped and restored. Office 365 was immediately re-installed and showed the SAME behavior except that the "random" 3-character URL was different . . .
. . . This extra Tab ''only'' shows up when I open any Office 2013 product to a New document or worksheet go to File>Account>Manage Account.

  • Can I sync Office 2013 Home premium Outlook calendar and contacts across all my computers without using Hotmail account

I don't want to use a Hotmail account to do this.
    Is it possible?
The licence is for 5 PC's but seems to have no sync ability.

I just went to Windows 8.1 and I purchased Office 365 home premium for 5 PCs or Macs and 5 mobile devices. No where in the page or the "learn more info" did it say it would not sync up with iPhones and iPads. I am concerned I wasted my money because
I truly wanted to have Outlook on my iPhone and Ipad. There is an OWA for iPad and Iphone available but I have deducted that it needs Microsoft Exchange which is not included in the home premium version of office365. I am not sure what good it does to advertise
syncing with mobile devices when it truly will not sync up. Is this True?
For $100/year, you would think exchange could be included so these syncing issues would not be a problem. I do not want to keep up with more email accounts just to make it work with Microsoft.
I am trying to keep things simple. I do use iPhones and Ipads, and based on the advertising for office 365 all my current issues would be seamlessly fixed by going this route. I'm afraid not unless someone can give me the simple solution that does not
require a PHd in computer saavy. I am not a rookie, but after 4 hours of trying everything I know to make it work, I just could not do it through my new office365 software or the apps for Iphone or Ipad. In addition, there were conflicting answers and
responses from Microsoft when I called or chatted with their support people.
BTW, I did download iCloud onto my new laptop and it knew that it was not syncing with Outlook and immediately asked if I wanted to fix. Downloaded the fix, restarted system, and calendar and contacts immediately synced up on my apple devices and my
    new computer.
The funny thing is that I still cannot get Office365 to sync with the windows 8.1 calendar or contacts app on the start page using my POP email account that I have had for many years. I also think it needs exchange. Please provide some guidance
    here.
I'm trying not to be difficult but am looking for the software to work as advertised so I can stick with all office products. If not, just give me a refund and I will buy a stand alone version for my PC and sync up with Apple apps which work well and
are much less expensive. Thanks for your assistance.

Here are some of the things I tried that did not solve the problem:
    - The task scheduler is running and working and there are no tasks that give any error
    - I deleted the "Microsoft Help" folder
    - I deleted the file "Rgstrtn.lck"
    - In the registry I deleted "AppCompatFlags"
    - In the registry "NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation" is set to "0"
    - I deleted everything inside the "TEMP" folder
    - I deleted every old versions of Office and their remaining files
    - I used the FixIt files to scrub any old Office installations
    - I am logged in as Administrator, have UAC turned off and gave my account ownership and full access to every file and folder
    - I tried installing on a "clean reboot", tried installing in secured mode, started the setup.exe with administrator rights
    - I tried unregistering and registering "msiexec"
    - I tried extracting the files from the .img file and I am running from C:\ and installing to the standard folder
Is there anything I can do to get it to finally work?

For such situation, I'd suggest the following:
    1. Remove current installed office with the fix-it tool in
KB2739501, and follow the "Remove Office manually" section to make sure there are no remaining files
    2. Either download a trial version of Office 2013 from
    http://office.microsoft.com/, or from

    3. Reboot your computer in clean boot mode, and run setup again

  • Mail x64 Control Panel Broken, Can't Install Office 2013 SP1 to Fix It - HELP NEEDED

I have the dreaded broken Mail x64 Control Panel that doesn't work after installing Office 2013 Home and Business on a Windows 8.1 Pro computer.  This was a fresh installation, yet Microsoft still has an ancient disk image on their Office.com website
for download.  The version is 15.0.4433.1507.  It's from 2012!  I don't understand the purpose of having people download something if you are not even going to keep it up to date, and have them download programs which you know are broken.
    Strike 1.
Another thread said to update Office 2013.  Easier said than done.  Windows Update won't do it, even if Windows Update is manually told to search for updates.  Strike 2.
Another thread said to disable updates inside an office program (File, Account, Update Options).  Then Enable it, and updating should start immediately.  Nope.  Strike 3.
Same thread said if the above didn't work, to go to Uninstall Programs, and run a Repair of Office 2013.  Did that, and then it wanted the Product Key again.  Gave it the product key, it put a green check mark next to it signifying it was good,
and then when I clicked next, it said it couldn't activate it.  I clicked the Repair button, and the program closed.  Strike 4.
I uninstalled, and reinstalled Office 2013.  I downloaded the Office 2013 Service Pack 1 x64, and ran it.  It gives the error message "There are no products affected by this package installed on the system".  How could that be?
Article ID 2850036 says specifically that it applies to "Microsoft Office Home and Business 2013".  Since when can't you install Service Packs? Strike 5.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
The issue may occur if the registry entries are corrupted or missing. Usually, repair the Office suite from control panel can fix the issue.
For your case, I would suggest you to run Microsoft Fix It tool (or follow the
manual steps listed in follow article
) to uninstall Office 2013 completely from your computer, then do a re-installation and verify the result:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us
If you are able to login to
www.office.com/myaccount, then you can get the latest Office installation file there.
    More reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2808266/en-us
Sorry for the inconvenience. Please have a try and feel free to post back.

  • Office 2013 Startup Problem with NEW Win 8.1 Install and no prior Office Version

Although I have seen similar threads on the forum, they all seem to address a different scenario.
    My environment is as follows:
Intel MotherBoard with I07 max processor
    64GB RAM
512 GB SSD Boot drive on which Windows 8.1 was installed as first and only O/S.  It was validated
4TB HDD on which User directory and programs installed (those which permit drive selection in startup)
    4TB data drive.
Machine was built from scratch with Win 8.1 Pro plus Media Center
Office 2013 Pro Plus was installed and validated
Machine is running in an MS AD Domain whose PDC is running on Win Server 2008 R2
User is a member of Enterpise and Domain Admin group
    HERE'S THE PROBLEM,
Any Office 2013 Pro Plus application (Not Just Oulook) goes through the configuration step EACH time it is launched.

    Hi,
Try repairing Office in Control Panel -> Programs and Features, check the result.
    You can also try this:
Go to the install folder, such as C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15, find the .exe file for the application, let's take Word for example, WINWORD.EXE, right click on it, send the shortcut to Desktop, right click the
shortcut -> Properties -> Shortcut -> Advanced -> Check "Run as administrator" -> OK -> OK.
Start Word from the shortcut, you may need to go through the process again, reboot the computer, check if it will show up again when you start Word. If the problem doesn't exist any more, do the same to other Office applications.

  • Deploying Office 2013 x64 - feature installation state msp not applying

So I created my MSP with setup.exe /admin and configured a number of options in it. I saved the msp as "1Office64bit.msp" and saved it into the Updates folder. I also have a service pack for Office 2013 in the Updates folder.
I created an SCCM application to deploy office. My deployment installation program looks like this - setup.exe /config proplus.ww\config.xml
During my SCCM Build and Capture task sequence Office 2013 installs, the updates apply, and all of the settings in the MSP apply except for one. I specificed in the msp feature installation states to NOT install the Outlook feature, but it's not working?
Also - as a test after the task sequence completes, I run "msiexec /p \\pathtomsp\1Office64bit.msp - and it removes Office like it should. But I don't know why this doesn't happen during the initial installation?

You should use either a config xml file or an MSP during the installation of Office (2013). In your current command line it looks like you're trying to use both. As you saved the MSP file in the updates folder, simply specifying setup.exe should be enough
to start the installation and let it use the MSP.
    My Blog: http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/
    Follow me on twitter: pvanderwoude
So I tried just running setup.exe and it doesn't seem to be working either. I verified in the ccm appenforce.log that the install command was just setup.exe (so the change made it to the client) but Outlook was still installed.
I'm going to try changing it to setup.exe /adminfile to see if that works.

I bought Acrobat XI & Office 2013.  Installed Acrobat XI first.  Then Installed Office 2013 next.  Opened Office 2013 word, excel, outlook, etc and NO Acrobat main tab.  Checked forums & Acrobat support and made sure Add-Ins in the customized Main Tab was checked, and COM Add-ins is pointing to XI and not disabled.  Still NO Acrobat main tab in the ribbon.  What am I doing wrong?!
MS Word 2013, Excel have the Acrobat in the Add-ins but is missing Acrobat tab to right of View. Only in MS Outlook I got an error message (pic 3).
MS Word 2013 w/o Acrobat XI - there's the Acrobat checked on Add-ins but doesn't have the main tab to the right of View.
MS Excel 2013 w/o Acrobat XI - there's the Acrobat checked on Add-ins but doesn't have the main tab to the right of View.
MS Outlook 2013 w/o Acrobat XI - there's the Acrobat on Inactive Add-ins and have the following error message:
"Not loaded. A runtime error ocurred during the loading of the Add-in."
Please help me, I don't know what else to do, installed and re-installed both MS-Office & Acrobat in different order. Nothing worked.
    Any suggestions?
    Sandra

    Hi,
The Activation Wizard will appear if your hard drive has
    changed a lot.
Check your product key and retype it. If you are sure that you type it correctly and still can’t activate Office, please do a phone activation in Office. The phone activation process will provide you with the appropriate phone number
to call. Explain to the service (Human being) that you can’t activate your Office.

  • Roaming Profile issues

    Hi all,
Since we migrated the infrastructure of our client to Win 8.1 and Server 2012 we are experiencing issues with roaming profiles. Before they had Win 7 and SBS Server 2003. The users have different problems:
RemoteApps are not working anymore (error 0x80070003), means we need to delete the contents of "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\workspaces\Feeds\" and "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Workspaces\"
The computer does not download the profile from the server so that the most recent local profile will be loaded. Events: "User Profiles General - 1509" and "User Profile Service - 1540" (I don't have the English error message available).
When this happens once, it never will work again even after days. Only deleting the local profile and re-login will solve the issue
And then there is the next problem! After deletion of the local profile and  re-login with the users profile, the profile will be downloaded from the server. But there are always two things missing:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX: No right-click-menu on the start button available
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\[Default-Icons]: There are no standard programs available in the start menu, such as explorer, IE, Calc, etc because of the missing shortcuts. When I checked the server I saw that the shortcuts
disappeared some days ago (previous versions)
    So my questions here are
Why isn't the WinX folder being created? The local Default profile does contain it.
Where are the start menu shortcuts gone? I don't think it's caused by the user because it already happened 4 or 5 times.
This applies to migrated users but also to newly created users in the WIn8 environment and on different machines. I hope anyone had similar issues and was able to solve it..?
    Thanks a lot

  • What is the default file format for saving in MS Office 2013? Is it still the transitional OOXML or the ISO/IEC 29500 strict format?

As I have read, MS Office 2013 is able to read and write the ISO/IEC 29500 strict (standardized Office Open XML) file format. MS Office 2010 was only able to read the strict format and MS Office 2007 could neither read nor write the strict format. The
.docx, .xlsx and .pptx saved by Office 2007 and 2010 were only complying to the OOXML transitional, as far as I understood.
My main question is what the default file format for saving in MS Office 2013 actually is? Is it still the transitional OOXML or the ISO/IEC 29500 strict format?
In case, MS Office still saves in the transitional standard by default, is it possible to set the strict standard in the settings? Is this recommended (I assume that OOXML strict is the future) to do this?
    Thanks.

Yes, the Transitional is still the default file format for saving in Office 2013, and we can modify this setting in Word Options, Save:
As Alex Brown covers in his
blog post, "Transitional is intended to preserve the fidelity of existing binary documents being migrated to ISO/IEC 29500, and includes many legacy features for compatibility with existing documents. Strict is a subset of Transitional that does not
include legacy features – this makes it theoretically easier for a new implementer to support (since it has a smaller technical footprint, so to speak), but also makes it less able to preserve the fidelity of existing documents."

  • Re-installing Office 2013

I have had some issues with Windows 8.1 on my Sony laptop, and Sony has told me that they recommend doing a factory reset on my computer and re-installing windows 8.1.  I am concerned because I have Office 2013 installed on my computer, and my University
only gives us one free installation code.  Will my activation code work when I re-install Office?

    Hi,
Don't worry, if you reinstall Office 2013 on the same PC and you’re connected to the Internet, activation will happen silently.
The Activation Wizard will appear if you've made significant changes to the hardware on the PC.
Anyway, if you have trouble activating Office 2013, please contact Customer Service and explain to the service (human beings) your scenario.
