RoboHelp 7 TOC

How do I set up the Table of contents so the << and >> buttons are available and also the Back button on all inquiries?

RH7 for Word or RH HTML?
What sort of help? WebHelp or CHMs.
By << do you mean previous topic in a browse sequence or the previously viewed topic?

  • Why is the automatically generated RoboHelp TOC limiting itself to the top 2 topic levels?

I'm using TCS 4 with RoboHelp v10.0.1.292 and FrameMaker v 11.  I created some dummy DITA files in FrameMaker11 using the default choices and organized them in a ditamap to learn how to work with multiple topic levels.  My ditamap has 3 topic levels.  All 3 levels display in RoboHelp's Project Manager, however only the first 2 levels display in the automatically generated TOC.  (After generating WebHelp output, I can do a search and find the 3rd level content, but the 3rd level topics are not displayed in the WebHelp TOC either.)
First graphic:  3rd level files in Project Manager pod match how they are arranged in FM, and where they failed to show up in the FMTOC pod.
Second graphic:  I found that I can get the 3rd level to display in the RoboHelp TOC and in WebHelp output if I click the TOC pod AUTO-CREATE TOC icon - is this the solution or is there something I just haven't got set up yet?  If regenerating the TOC in RH is the solution, how do I get the accompanying file name problems to go away, i.e. the ditamap FILE name now replaces the ditamap TITLE, and worse, one of the task file names has replaced its title name.
Thanks for any clues you can provide.

I have moved this to the FrameMaker Integration forum in the hope you get a reply here.

  • TOC conversion from FM 8 to Robohelp 7 is a catastrophe!

    Hello!
I have a technical user manual, created in FM 8, that needs to be converted into online documentation. I have tried converting my FM 8 book into  Robohelp 7 and everything seems to have worked well, except for the TOC. It is absolutely a mess! It starts at Chapter 1.8.1 and everything before that is missing in the TOC. Then it contines on to Chapter 2 but leaves out Chapter 3 completely...HELP!!!! What have i done wrong? Would really appreciate sometips on this!
    Thanks so much!

    Dear Ubiroi10,
    I don't have these problems.
A requirement is, to map the Pagination Settings correct. You did it?
    Try the following way.
    1. Delete all entries in the RoboHelp TOC you want to replace.
    2. In the Project Manger pod right-click on Project Files.
    3. In the context menu, choose Import.
    4. In File Types choose *.book.
    5. Choose your book to convert.
    6. In Content Setting window, select the option Convert FrameMaker Table of Contents.
    7. You can now add to an existing or create a new TOC.
    8. The structure in RoboHelp should now match to the structure in FrameMaker.
    I hope it works.

  • How to generate a TOC in Rh8 based on a structured Fm9 book

    Hi,
After linking a structured FrameMaker 9 book in RoboHelp 8, is it possible to generate a RoboHelp TOC with the same folder structure?
For example, let's say you've created a structured Fm book which consists of several DITA (XML) topics organized into folders, as shown below.
After linking the book in Rh, is there a way to automatically generate a TOC with the same folder structure, as shown below? The TOC should remain linked, so that any changes you make to the Fm book will also be reflected in the TOC after you update the book in Rh.
Note: As RJ Jacquez demonstrated in Linking FrameMaker 9 Books in RoboHelp 8 via Adobe Technical Communication Suite, this can be achieved with unstructured books and documents by using a TOC generated in Fm. However, if you attempt to use this method with structured documents (such as DITA files), the generated TOC is flattened, i.e., the folder structure is lost.
Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?
PS: I am using the Adobe Technical Communications Suite 2.

    Hi there,
When you linked the book in Robohelp, in project manager pod just right click in the linked book and go to properties. There you have an option to select the TOC.
    Hope that helps
    Thanks

  • Duplicate entries in TOC

When I generate a Word doc in single-source layout, some of the headings in the TOC get listed twice.  This appears to be random; the duplicated headings are listed only once in the TOC as it appears in RoboHelp, just like the others.  I tried deleting and reconstructing the TOC but that didn't help and I'm not sure what else to do.

I don't know if this is what you're experiencing, but I do know that if a RH topic is linked to a book in the table of contents, the generated Word document will include both the title of the book and the title of the topic. That is, if the Robohelp TOC includes a book called "Getting Started" that links to a topic called "Getting Started", Word will include two instances of the "Getting Started" heading.
To get around this, I created a conditional build tag called "Online". When I create Books with Links in the table of contents, I manually apply this tag to the heading in the topic. I then generate the Word document with a  "NOT Online" Conditional Build Expression.
    Hope this helps,
    Kathy

Any Help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi Captiv8r,
Its a bit of former, I'll try to explain.
We have a Platform Application, on which the other 3 products
will be installed. Now it could be any random product/products out
of the 3 products which will be installed on Platform Application.
The idea is to have a single WebHelp for the Platform
Application including the 3 products, which should be intelligent
enough to identify the installed product/products and also show
only that TOC (Books/pages) for the product/products installed.
Now, all the help link URLs (individual page/Webhelp) for
platform and 3 products are specified in the Platform.
My approach(trying) was to create 3 sub-folders in the
Webhelp (main folder), one for each product. And to make
placeholders for products TOCs(toc1, toc2, toc3) to be visible in
the Main TOC only if the sub-folder of the related product is there
    in Webhelp(main folder).
Please let me know if my approach is all wrong and also I
would like to know more on Merged WebHelp System if you really
    think it'll help my problem.
Hope I was clear enough to make you understand.
    Thanks a tonn.

  • Books linked to Topics

I've been creating new topics while creating my TOC; linking
new topics to newly created books. When I compile and generate Html
help, everything looks great. Until i exit out of Robohelp and go
back in. At that point, any book that was linked to a topic is now
a page. The Adobe support staff says this happened because i didn't
create pages for my books when i greated them initially, so any
book that does not have a page, automatically becaomes a page. Does
anybody know how to fix this retroactively? Essentially change a
page into a book? As it stands, the way i see it, i have to more or
less start over, which would be annoying since my TOC is pretty
    large....
    Thanks.

Hi SKIUNNYNJ and welcome to our community
Hmmm, so why would you want a book that has no pages inside?
    Doesn't matter I suppose.
If this will be a compiled .CHM output file, you can do the
following. Sorry, but the bad news is taht it will involve hand
editing each entry. The good news is that you will end up with what
    it appears you want.
    1. In the RoboHelp TOC Editor, right click the topic and
click Properties off the context menu.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Click the Image drop-down and choose the desired book
    image.
    4. Click OK to dismiss the dialog.
    5. Recompile the project and test.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick :)

  • Is there a limit for external links in TOC using RoboHelp 9.2?

    Hi,
This is my first time posting to the Adobe forums. Here is my problem.
I have been maintaining help projects using RoboHelp 9.2 for quite some time now to generate WebHelp. I now have four large projects that are linked through a URL in each project's TOC.  Example: I have projects A B C D. In A's TOC, I include a link to B C D default topics. In B's TOC, I include a link to A C D default topics. And so on ... The fourth project (D) is new.
The problem I've encountered is with the image appearing in the TOC next to the external link entry for project D in the generated WebHelp.  The image showing up for project D is different from the other two, even though the properties for that page are exactly the same as the other two.  This happens in all three remaining projects (A B C). Even when I change the image (from the image index), the same image (i.e. the standard image for a topic page) appears regardless.
What should appear in all cases is image 13.gif.
(I'll have to figure out later why 19.gif is selected in the properties dialog, whereas 13.gif is actually showing up in WebHelp. Doh.)
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    denise

2-Shoud I delete older backups? If for example, all I need from Time Machine is the latest backup done today, can I get rid of the 2+ yeras of backups, or do they not take up that much space?
No.  Time Machine should be on a separate HDD and will take care of deleting backups when necessary on that drive.
3-Back to the issue, considering I don't have access to a an apple store for the next few months, what is my best plan of action?
I would consider installing a larger internal HDD.  Capacities to 1 TB are now available.
4-I am considering buying a new macbook 15inch, and get more space, however, I'm scared that the same problem will happen again. Is this common on all macs? Will using Time Machine to "Restore" my backups bring along the issues as well?
All Macs using Time Machine will experience the same conditions.  The problem is that many users do not under stand what 'Other' is and that leads to confusion.  There are many essential OS files in that category that should not be touched as well as some user files.  The issue is not to reduce 'Other' as such, but reduce the total amount of data on the HDD if space is becoming a premium.

  • Is there a way to prevent Robohelp WebHelp from appending characters to the end of the URL address for a TOC Entry?

I am running RoboHelp 10 on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64 bit OS.
WebHelp is appending characters to the end of the TOC entry's URL address. The characters "bc-n" where n is a number are being generated for all of the TOC Page Entries when I generate WebHelp output. We are exporting the HTML files for import into an application. The TOC Page Properties Link to: property does not contain the characters in RoboHelp.
We have standardized names defined for our application and the appended characters are not going to work in the application.
    cid:[email protected]
When I use the generated html output in IE10 Version 10.0.9200.16635 Update Versions: 10.0.7 (KB2846071) the characters show up in the URL when I hover the mouse over the TOC entry as shown in the screenshot below.
    cid:[email protected]
The two screenshots show that the Link to property does not have the characters "bc-7" but the URL address does.
Is there a setting or way to configure RoboHelp to prevent Robohelp WebHelp from generating and appending characters to the end of the URL address for TOC Entries?

I have never known Rh add any characters so I think something else is at play here. Please open one of the sample projects and see what happens there. Click Open on the RoboHelp Starter page and then click Samples in the ribbon on the left.

  • Assign/Change page image in TOC - RoboHelp 9

I would like to have 2 sep. page images in my TOC. One = [?] and another indicating that a video link is contained on page. I changed the URL image link but can't find out how to assign the image to the page. Is this the way to go? If so, how do I assign the image to the page. --Thank you.

First off, before I even write this I'm fully aware there is a strong possibility it will come off as me being argumentative. Please know up front that this is not my intent.

    Notes
You can create new images for any type of contents entry.
(nabbed from HTML Help Workshop Help) Note that you can use your own icons as well.
    I'm just sayin.
This part is the real reason for my reply. I'm mystified as to why one would elect to use RoboHelp for all other authoring aspects, but resort to HTML Help Workshop (HHW)  to manage assigning icons when you are able to easily to it from inside RoboHelp. Sure, HHW is free, but we are still assuming folks are using RoboHelp as we are in the RoboHelp forums, no? Why would I elect to use a separate tool when the tool I have does exactly what I need? So that bit is a real puzzler to me.
I noticed you also wanted to point out that the help for HHW states you may use your own icons. And to that I would caution that while it certainly is possible and I've done it, actual implementation is far more painful than many care to use. As a result, the whole notion of using your own icons is most likely abandoned after seeing how difficult it can be to get implemented.

  • HTML Sites not shown in TOC (PDF) - RoboHelp HTML (v9)

    Hello ,
i have a new question. I didn't find an answer in the www so I'm asking here again.
I have a automatically generated TOC where I see all my books(directories) and html sites which are listed in the project-manager.
If I create an WebHelp I can see the html sites in the generated TOC, but if I create an pdf (printed documentation) I only see the books in my TOC inside the pdf.
Why I don't see any html sites in the TOC like it is in the web help?
But the pdf-generating-process write automatically all my headlines(inside the html sites) in my TOC.
I imagine that the printed documentation will create his own TOC and ignore my TOC which I selected.
Can someone help me show my html sites in the TOC like the automatically creation process of WebHelp will do it?
    Thanks
    kind regards
    Denis

Just picking up on one point that may help. The very first time you use a Printed Documentation layout, the contents are taken from whichever TOC you selected. After that, any changes you make to the TOC do not reflect in the print layout. The quick way to update the print layout is to click the left facing double chevron to remove all topics, then click the right facing double chevron to take the latest version of the TOC.
See Printed Documentation on my site.
If that doesn't help, maybe some screenshots would help.

  • Script Errors in TOC from RoboHelp 9

Hello, all. I can usually find the answer to my problems by searching existing threads, but I can't seem to find a solution this time. I recently upgraded from RoboHelp 7 to 9.0.2.271. I have published WebHelp locally and then checked files in to a Team Foundation Server to be deployed to a testing environment. Locally and on the QA site, the output looks fine for me and the TOC works as expected. However, other users on Internet Explorer 7 and 8 (I have IE8) get script errors when trying to click on pages in the TOC.
I zipped my local files and dropped them on a shared drive and asked one of the users to copy them to his machine and open the start page with his browser. He still gets the script errors, whereas another user can open them locally with no problems. This makes me think the problem is not in the RoboHelp files themselves, but I am not sure.
To further complicate matters, in the staging environment, a different server from QA, the TOC and Index are empty! This is obviously a separate issue, but I am stumped. This issue occurs in IE 6, 7 and 8. It does NOT occur in IE 9 or Firefox.
    Any ideas?

This issue was fixed with a reply from another discussion:
    Re: RH8 > WebHelp > TOC won't render in IE8 via HTTPS - Fix/workaround?
If TOC/Index/Search is not working in IE7/8/9 via HTTPS, Please try the following steps
    Go to https://acrobat.com/#d=WqbdTq-2R79ToU08-zfBEw
    Download IESearchIssue.zip file. Unzip it.
It will create a folder IESearchIssue. It has two subfolders
    RH8.0.2
    RH9.0
If you are using RoboHelp 8.0.2, go to RH8.0.2 folder.
if you are using RoboHelp 9.0, go to RH9.0 folder
Go to <RoboHelp Install Folder>\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock folder and rename the file whutils.js  to whutils.js.bak
Now paste the already copied new whutils.js in same folder.
Now again generate webhelp output of the required project.
Host it to your webserver and check if it works.

  • TOC links are not appearing in RoboHelp 9

    Hi team,
I am facing a big trouble.
I am creating an online help using RoboHelp 9. The help has 133 topics. My problem is that after generating the help, few topics are not appearing in TOC. A blank page appears. If i relink the topic, it comes fine but at the same time some other links starts not appearing in the TOC. Please help.
    Regards,
    Garima

    Hi there
In addition to what Colum is asking, I'm going to ask/suggest this. If indeed the Topic Pane simply appears blank, try right-clicking the pane and see if you can choose "View Source". If a window or application appears that lists the HTML code, it means the topic indeed loaded but is probably having issues presenting the content. And if that's the case it's an entirely different can of worms from a troubleshooting perspective.

  • Importing MS Word into RoboHelp HTML / TOC Creation/ CHM output?

    Hello,
I am a newbie to RoboHelp 8 and am trying out the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2.5, and have a Windows 7 (64 Bit) OS.
At the moment, I have a single 40 page word document (MS Word 2010) that I would like to bring into RoboHelp 8.
With that said, I create a blank project, and then import the document.  But, when I try to generate and view a help file, I am not seeing the table of contents.  I have even done the AUTO TOC and verify that the links correspond to sections and sub-sections etc. - but still no TOC.
In addition, for some reason it brought in each of my figures twice, so that I have two figure 1s, two figure twos and so on.
Finally, it gave me an error message and was complaining about WidgetMax:
    "Compilation failed while compiling http:\www.widgetmax.com."
I am not sure what that is about either.
Okay, one more question.  Is there an easy way to break up all the sections/sub-sections into unique topics before or during inport into RoboHTML?  It seems that RH 8 really needs to have multiple topics versus one long topic, containing what was formerly a MS Word document.  What is the best approach to making that happen?
Overall, I am looking for a nice automated system, whereby I can take developer created documents (from protected MS Word templates) and bring them into RoboHelp HTML (version 8).  Hopefully, I will not have to break apart the entire MS Word document first, before bringing it into RH 8.
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions from a newbie.
    -J

    Hi there
My own guess is that you created a project using one of the supplied templates. Specifically, the Application Help template. This template already has a CHM window defined that contains a link to the WidgetMax.com site. When a link to a web site is defined in a CHM window, the compiler will squawk about it because it cannot resolve the link to a local HTML page. So you may safely ignore the message.
As for importing the Word content, you have some decisions to make. How do you want to edit the content after you get it into RoboHelp?
After you import you will abandon Word and make any changes to the documentation only using RoboHelp HTML.
You will continue to maintain the Word document using Microsoft Word and you will want to update RoboHelp HTML to reflect the changes
Depending on the avenue you wish to take, you will have different options for splitting the Word content into individual topics. Once we know which option you wish to use we can offer more guidance.

  • Why does a topic that is not in the TOC show up in a help search?  RoboHelp 9

I have two book (.xpj) projects in one directory.  They each have their own TOCs, but the directory has all the topics for both projects.
In project A, the generated help output TOC looks correct, but if I do a search, I get a topic that is not in project A- it is not linked to the book.  It is linked to project B.   Do you know why the search would come up with this topic?
What determines the topics that appear in a help search?

  • RoboHelp 9 - problem with merged TOC and index

Using RoboHelp v9.0.0.228 I have a master project which contains several merged TOCs and indexes for other CHMs. This has worked successfully for years, but has now stopped working in our translated CHMs. I have checked all the relevant settings and they appear to be correct. The English version still works correctly. Can you help please? Many thanks.

OK, so my post was just a summary really!
I have a main project with its own TOC, index and topics. I then have several other projects with their own TOCs, indexes and topics, and these are merged into the master TOC. In all these projects, we use the indexes to contain function ids for our software, so that when you press F1 in a software function, it invokes the correct Help topic in the CHM. The software is coded so that it goes to the main project first, and then looks in the merged index to find the link to the Help topic.
In the individual sub projects, the TOCs and indexes are present and work correctly. Also, in the master project, the TOC and index works correctly in the original English version. However, even though the TOCs, indexes and topics are all present and correct in the translated versions (Russian, for example) the index in the master project does not contain the entries for the sub projects. The TOCs for the sub projects do, however, work correctly.
