Our company have recently moved from 4.7 to 6.0.
1. What are the steps/points to be taken into considerations after the implementation, taking developer view into consideration...
2. In terms of tools, what 6.0 has offered us, apart from traditional abap programing...
3. Heard the thing that developers have more restricted use/value now in comarison to 4.7, are v , programmers in a danger of extinction, literally..

Role of Developers in ECC 6.0
With every new version release SAP releases Version / Release note. You should check the changes made from release to release.

There are two types of Upgradation:
1) Technical
2) Functional.
Technical: It is puerly relevant for ABAP development.
First they will prepare Business Process Master List.(BPML).
It contains what are the business process, transaction codes, programs etc.
They will cross check whether the business process, transaction codes, programs etc are functioning properly in the existing system. If not, they will go for
ABAP development in that System.
Then they will go for user document preparation and user training documentation & Scripts.(Nothing but templates).
While doing Upgrade You have to aware of all related program like BDC's , Screens related errors and all dictionary related problems.
Some function modules may become obsolete, and some screens will change
and some new fields will be added in the new versions etc.
Also take care of SPAU and SPDD tcodes.
You should be able to know about Unicode concept in sap.

Standard Role "SAP_QAP_BW_DASHBOARDS" Unavailable in ECC System

Hello Experts.
We are trying to Implement Embedded Analytics in our R3 system, from the SAP documentation I came to know that in order to execute the standard Reports/Dashboards as a pre-requisite we need to have the role "SAP_QAP_BW_DASHBOARDS" assigned to user. but we are unable to find the mentioned standard role in our system.
We have already raised an OSS message but it is also of not much help.
we are at SAP ECC 6.0 EHP 6.
Any help/comment would be appreciated.

We also got a reply from SAP saying
"The role SAP_QAP_BW_DASHBOARDS was never delivered (and it was not
planned to be delivered, too). This role was just meant for SAP
internal usage during dashboard development. Thus, the documentation
which states that you should assign this role to your users for
dashboard usage is incorrect."
and they suggested we shall create our roles on our own based on our business need, for example how the roles shall look like they have created a note "2001264" where its clearly mentioned how to create the role.

Maximum Nr of Roles in a SAP ECC 6.0 System

Hi,
How many roles maximum could be assigned to one user in a SAP ECC 6.0 System?
In case some single roles are assigned several times to the same user ( because one single role belongs to the several composite roles) ..then will be this role count only 1 time?

Automatic Role Provision tool in ECC

Hi All - In my company we have very tedious procedure for role provisioning, users sometimes get totally lost when requesting roles.
We have no budget to implement SAP Access Enforcer, is there any tool within SAP which provides role provisioning.
Or can you guys suggest me any ideas with which I can make things easy to users in role provision.
As for now our process is user have to manully find roles which they want from couple of 100 roles, than it goes to role owner for approval after approval Sec Admin assigns requested role to user.......
Can you guys suggest me some ideas on how to make this process not complex to users.

I should have been more clear, my bad! When I say users I mean my IS users (BA's, functional Architects, PM's). Actually they request roles for end users or for business.
I was thinking to create standard roles (composite) per module/business specific. I dont know weather this idea will be any easy. When user request access to ECC per there responsibilities/business we can assign standard composite role to kick start user......
And also question with your previous post :

BI Team Role in Production (both ECC and BI)

What access do the BI support team require in prod ECC and BI? I need to create their roles but I have limited knowledge as to what they need. Would really appreciate your inputs so at least they can't sell me something that they shouldn't have access to. Like do they need access to tcodes BWST, RSA5, RSA6, RSA7, BU01, BU07, KEB1, KEB3 and KEB4 in ECC prod? Do they need debugging access in both environments?

Hello,
When you say BI support Team are you talking about functional support team, security support team or basis support team?
For functional users one transaction that will appear for sure is RSA1, but that should be really defined by the functional team according to the functions they are planning to activate. I suggest you contact them.
For security team, the basic trx needed will be SU01, PFCG, RSECADMIN, SUIM, SE16 (only for some tables), ST01.
For basis support the list is really big, and I suggest you contact the basis team and discuss with them which are the ones needed.
For ECC is not so easy to determine which ones, for it will depend the modules used and the functionality of ECC that will be used.

I am working as a Support Security Consultant. Now I have assigned to another implemenation Project.
My client asks to create 2 roles in DEV. system the requirement is:
1) He asks to create a role for develpoers in dev system fro devepment activities ( report creation, screen creation..etc..) and these people don't modify the HR related tables
2) He asks to create role for HCM guys in development system to work on HCM Configuration and to work on HCM areas but these people should not involve into develpometn activites
My questions is what are the tcodes we have to maintain in the roles to reach his requirement.
I asked the same thing to my Client he doesn' t provide any information
Please anyone help me on this

What are all the necessary roles to be provided for a developer in XI system other than those of mentioned below.

Problem with uploading the role from backend R3 ECC 5.0 system

hi all gurus,
         i have created one role in the back end sustem and then assigned it to one user.
         Now i have created one system to connect that backend system and mapped one portal user to that backend system user then i tried fro uploading the role problem.
         Now after prosessing the role upload it will show the report with error for "PROCESSING ATTRIBUTES" as follow:

Hello, I've been reading various Sun docs and JSF sites and am looking for some information detailing the division of developer roles/tasks during JSF dev. I've seen the enclosed description in the Sun tutorials but was hoping to see if anyone has additional information, preferably some details of how the development process went at their own company. I am a frontend developer (worked at JSP level prior to move to JSF) and our company has a team of java devs and GUI devs - trying to see how folks have divided tasks . . . any tips/challenges/stories . . . I have used VirtualPC 2004 wiht NWDS and EP6. It worked fine. I expereince small problems with performance related to available memory.
SLD - not a problm
JDI - (each developer can have ddiferent user id)
SID - (i understand that you will have full landscape so it will be dev and qa and prd environmen in addition to "VirtualPCs").
There is one point about MS licenses - there is a need for Microsoft license for Windows on the host and on the VirtualPC. It can double number of required licenses.
There are at least 3 more options available:
1. VMware - I have some experience with it (if you want we can discuss it)
2. using Virtual server environment (VMWare Server or MS Virtual Server from MS) (we used VMWare Server for one of our development projects)
3. Virtuozzo - very interesting
With Vmware it is possible to use Linux as a host OS or even run it on "bare metal- no licenses for host OS
With Virtuozzo there is no need for multiple OS license as it is OS vitualization and not hardware virtualization.
It really depends if you think about running virtual environments on each developer's PC or centrally on a server.

Uploading Roles from ECC 6.0 to SCM 5.1 (APO)

We are trying to re-use some roles created in SAP ECC 6.0 in order to be used in a APO(SAP SCM 5.10) system.
We downloaded and uploaded the roles to the target system, although we do not identify any problem in doing that I will like ask the experts if there is something that I should do or not, and if there is something that we have to take into account in doing this.
The roles are only for some activities that are the same in both systems like user administration, authorization administration and other technical stuff that is the same in both systems.
Our goal of course is that every time that we make changes in the source system we will download and upload in order to keep updated the target system.

Well, there could be a difference in objects, customizing switches and patchlevels which could lead to unwanted (and sometimes almost invisble) problems. If there are objects in the roles that do not exist in the target system (or if they're linked to a non-existent object class) you will not be able to see or maintain them in PFCG.
This will also cause problems when transporting these roles through the target landscape.
So I'd suggest you thoroughly compare TOBJ on both systems and make sure these tables are identical for the objects concerned. That should cover technical issues. After that make sure the systems behave the same (customizing etc).

Replicating authorization roles via HR replication from ECC 6 to SRM 5.0

I'm interested in knowing whether anyone has used the distribution model to copy roles (AG objects) between ECC 6 and SRM 5.0.
Someone said that it's possible so I would like to validate that statement as I don't know whether it is possible and practical.
If you have any knowledge or experience could you please share it?

I was told that it can be done but I don't know enough about the HR replication process to acknowledge or challenge, hence the question.
Are you implying that it's not possible or simply that it's not done?
I had an earlier post regarding assigning roles to positions in SRM Replicating authorization roles via HR replication from ECC 6 to SRM 5.0 that you replied to but never replied to my subsequent question. It can be done because one of my other clients is doing it. We're however unable to get it work at my current client's site. Do you have any experience with this subject?

Middleware: changing roles in ECC

What is the effect of changing the business partner role in either of the two systems e.g. if the role of a business partner was changed from Applicant to Financial customer in ECC?
I understand that a role in ECC can be mapped to a role in CRM, but is it possible to map two or more roles in ECC to two corresponding roles in CRM ?

mapping of role from CRM to ECC or vice versa involves a simple step that you maintain two persons as BP in both sides so that a single role is mapped accordingly,
the effect of changing the role in ECC to any other role will map the person into the changed role in new system to which data is transferred from ECC.
for mpping of multiple roles in ECC and Crm you need to manitain the multiple persons per BP in two systems as i mentioned in the above rule,that way you can map as many roles you want.

XI Adapter - Proxy - ECC user roles ?

Hi Gurus,
My scenario is HTTP - XI - ECC(Proxy). We are using communication user with SAP_ALL role to login to ECC from XI(in receiver XI adapter -Communication channel).
Basis do not want to give SAP_ALL role this communication user. Are there any standard roles delivered to use for this ECC user to execute proxies in ECC ?
Were there any SAP notes related to my issue ? Please help.

Check if a user has a specific role

Hello,
Is it possible to check if a user has a specific role in MII 12.0?
For example if the user has the role "xmii Developers" I would do something more in a transaction than if the user doesn't have this role.

Are u finding difficulty to trace which role user is assigned to? If so, then u can refer Abesh's Blog.
OR
If you are writing Transaction to get user list based on Role , then u can do following
Create XML query.
Configure above XML Query in Transaction, in links map (XML Query) URL like given below
"https://Server:Port/XMII/Illuminator?service=admin&Mode=UserList&Content-Type=text/xml&group=XMII Administrators&IllumLoginName=loginId&IllumLoginPassword=pwd"
