Role of Web Services in cross organisation BPM

What are the pros and cons of using web service based decentralise approach for managing Inter-Organisational BPM? What are the challenges and what are the benefits?
Regards
Ganesh Sawant

PROS:
Using the Webservices you can trigger the BPM Process and pass the values from the web dypro component which will available for the end user and pass it on to the BPM Proess.
We can use EJB as a webservice, where the automated activity in the BPM can output the value based on the logic in the EJB Function. We can manage the automated activity which runs in the back ground of the process as per our logic and returns the value to the next task.
CONS
Using Webservices in the various activity with fewer data is not advisable as it takes longer time to deploy the process. And any change in the data in the webservices requires regularly re importing of the web services.

    ( Peer-to-Peer CBPM: In ideal condition in this approach every Partner should have the same technology which is developed for handling collaborative Business Processes.  In this case the same modelling, monitoring, and implementation technology is available across the value chain. )
    What are the challenges and what are the benefits from the aspects like autonomy, governance, security, modelling, monitoring, and process ownership?

  • Web Service consumption fails in BPM

    Hi,
    I am new in the BPM and trying to create some demo applications using the tutorials from SDN.
    I have created a BPM process and import a web service in that for an automated activities.
    During execution the web service fails and giving the the following error.
    "Unable to generate configuration data - The service group might not registered with the provider system".
    I've tested the web service is running fine from the web service navigator.
    I am using CE7.1.
    Regards
    Indra

    Hi Indra ,
    You should assign a service group for the automated activity in your process. Click on the automated activity in the design time and goto properties tab and select "Interface". There you can create a new service group. This should fix the error you are getting.

    It was all for my windows. I used windows Xp Service Pack 3.
    I run my process on other computer running windows XP Service Pack 2 and everything was fine, I invoked service successfully.
    The bad thing about windows was that I could invoke my service from another java code, but when invoking it from BPM suite had errors.

  • Async system - XI BPM Sync - Web service - SOAP response

    Dear Experts:
    I have the following scenario:
    Async Proxy to XI to web service. I use BPM to make this a sync call to the web service. It works fine!
    I have a XSLT mapping for the response message from the web service. I use XSLT because the structure of the positive and fault responses are different. Anyway, I could get the positive response post ok back in the XI system.
    But the fault response does not get mapped and I get a APPLICATION_ERROR of category UNKNOWN in the SXMB_MONI. I also configured exception handling in the BPM. But it does not catch this error.
    Can anyone suggest how to handle the fault response from the web service?
    Thank you.

    I just had the same problem and solved it like this: I modified the WSDL slightly by removing the prefix from the reference to the element of the response message, as well as the "targetNamespace" in the xsd:schema segment of the WSDL. Like this, SAP is able to parse the response.

  • Sync Web Service - BPM with 2 sync proxy calls error.

    Hi.
    Have a sync web service going into a BPM.
    In the BPM there ar 2 sync calls towards a system making a credit check.
    The answer is responded to the web service.
    In our QA system the solution works perfect.
    I transported the solution to production and when I test the web service call towards I get the following error.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>

      <SAP:AdditionalText />
      <SAP:Stack>Timeout condition of pipeline reached</SAP:Stack>
      <SAP:Retry>M</SAP:Retry>
      </SAP:Error>
    Does anybody have an idea why I get the error.
    When I check my config everything looks the same.
    Looks like we never send the first sync call to the proxy when I check in SXMB_MONI and the BPM gets terminated.
    We have just migrated the solution from XI 3.0 to PI 7.11.

    Hi.
    How will that help if we do not send the message.
    When I check the graphics in SXMB_MONI the error occours befor we send the first message with proxy.

    We are using sync communication.

  • JSP-BPM Process-Web Service interaction

    Hi all
    I am new to Oracle bpm studio. I am having one very important question.
    I want to understand the JSP-BPM-Webservice interaction in Oracle BPM studio BPM Process, as we have an enterprise application having servlets, ejbs, etc, for these servlets & ejbswe are creating web services to expose their functionality, through a BPM process. We have created jsps for showing the result fetched from the external web services imported in our BPM process.
    So in brief, jsp and external webservices are imported in our BPM project, configured as interactive & global activity respectively.
    Please guide us for the JSP-BPM-Webservice interaction.
    How to make the webservice working in response of the jsp, getResult Button? So that on pressing the button on jsp the webservice can return the result and the result can be diplayed on another jsp?
    How to bind the webservice with bpm object, and pass the values through the bpm flow?
    Could you please guide me through this small demo application?
    Please please please reply my question, eagerly waiting for your reply.......................................

    Hi Sujata
    Yes we did the same, as given in some tutorials how to create the "Web service catalogue component", we did it, introspected the webservice.
    Now we need to pass the inputs to the add method of the web service, so that it can return the result back to the jsp. So in order to achieve this we created one interactive activity component & object for jsp in the main BPM process and for the same jsp, one interactive activity component in the screenflow, and to interact with the webservice, we created the global activity in the main BPM process. We edited this global activity and dragged the add method definition there.
    So now we are facing issues with jsp-web service interaction, they are not interacting, so we want somebody to guide us how to enable this with step by step instructions if somebody has done it already. We have already gone thru a lot of tutorials & forum but we want to resolve this asap.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Getting BPM response in a synchronous web service

    We have a synchronous web service - an EJB whose methods are exposed as web service
    methods. The EJB acts as a broker, and channels web service requests to the BPM.
    Each web service request (i.e. each EJB method) needs to interact with a few AppView
    services. We plan to use the BPM as an intermediate layer. Hence each EJB method
    needs to start a BPM workflow, wait for its completion (as the web service is
    synchronous) and get the output response XML to return to the web service client.
    In this scenario, we have questions in two major areas -
    1) How does the EJB get the response from the workflow? For e.g. If we use sendXMLToClient
    in the workflow, how is it received by this EJB? Alternatively, is it better to
    put all the response in workflow variables, and inspect it after the workflow
    completes i.e. after WorkflowInstance.waitForCompletion() ? What would happen
    in case of exceptions = where would they be caught?
    2) There are various simultaneous tasks in the workflow, and we want to merge
    the XML response of all of these. How is it best done?
    Note that all of these are dynamic and need to be done in code i.e. Human intervention
    through worklist / studio is not expected.
    Please advise.

    You can try the message driven bean.
    It will slove your problem.
    and you can use the database to save your run time xml response.
    Good luck!

  • How can I invoke web service in BPM Object's method?

    In ALBPM 5.7,AJaX can code by Call BPM Object's method.So I want to invoke web service via AJaX by BPM method.
    My sample code is:
    1: HelloWorldWebService ws = HelloWorldWebService();
    2: String param = "John";
    3: String retresult = "";
    4: ws.sayHello(name : parame; out result : retresult);
    and,I have import HelloWorldWebService by wsdl into catalog.
    In fact,at line 1 there is a error(fuego.connector.ConnectorRuntimeException: session is not started). Web service's instance is not created.
    Anybody can help me? thanks.

    Hi,
    I tried calling a simple webservice deployed in weblogic 8.1(see code) and it was working fine for me.
    Code for WS
    package service;
    import com.bea.control.JwsContext;
    import com.bea.jws.Protocol;
    import org.xmlsoap.schemas.soap.envelope.HeaderDocument;
    import com.bea.xml.XmlException;
    import org.w3c.dom.Element;
    import org.w3c.dom.Node;
    import org.w3c.dom.NodeList;
    public class CheckCredit implements com.bea.jws.WebService
    * @common:context
    JwsContext context;
    static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
    * @common:operation
    * @jws:protocol form-get="false" form-post="false"
    public boolean getCreditRating(String cardNumber)
    System.out.println("Card number is: " + cardNumber );
    boolean result = ((int)(Math.random() *100)) % 2 == 0?true:false;
    return result;
    Code from ALBPM Object method
    creditRatingResult as Bool
    getCreditRating CheckCreditService
    using cardNumber = "1234-5567-4667-4566"
    returning creditRatingResult = creditRatingResult
    logMessage "Result is: " + creditRatingResult
    What I suggest for you problem is:
    1. Check the server on which you have deployed the WS. Does it require any sort of authentication prior to connecting to the WS
    2. It seems you are using Java style in ALBPM. Try switching to PBL. I don't know how it makes a difference, but sometimes it helps

  • Process as a Web Service WSDL client

    Hi,
    I am using the Process as a Web Service Option inside of BPM . I launch the deployed webservices webapps and I get the WSDL out of it.. The WSDL works fine with SOAP UI..But when I try to create a web service client out of that WSDL it gives me the following error:-
    com.bea.albpm.TestProject.SampleProject.OperationException cannot be resolved as type and the web service client does not work..
    how do I resolve this error.. Is there a jar file that I need to import?

    Did you use PAPI code inside your web service or did u just use PAPI Web Services ( like did u just pressed the button Launch PAPI Web Services ) and it created the WSDL for you and u used it to create the client?
    I am using the latest version of OBPM..
    Oracle 10.3.10
    Can you let me know what do u mean by PAPI interface.. Is it the PAPI code of is the PAPI Web Service which is built by BPM automatically and could be used?
