RollOver movieClip to display dynamic text

I have no ides how to do this.
It must be easy but I can't seem to get it. I have a movie
clip called A_mc and a dynamic text field called instance name
"Names", when the mouse rolls over the A_mc I want a name assigned
to the A_mc to show up in the Names text field.
It seemed simple enough, I have seen it used in educational
SWF when the mouse rolls over the A_mc the name of that part or
area shows us in the text field.
But I need help HHEELLLP

Thanks Gibbah
For your help, I don't think I thgink the right way for
Flash, I know it takes time but this seems to be driving me mad.
The code you gave me, that is attached to the A_m (Movie
Clip).
The Dynamic Text called names appears on the swf along with
the A_m symbol but no action
I get and error
The class or interface 'Event' could not be loaded.
CODE
on(rollOver){
A_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,showName);
function showName(e:Event):void {
A_mc.Names.text= "Rob Beckett";
I must be doing something else wrong

      endif .
    now double click on MAIN, the system will ask youto creat the title click yes

  • How to display Dynamic text after adding flash file to html

    Please help - I have a dynamic text field in a movieclip
    inside a main movieclip - Within flash the dynamic text display
    properly but once I load the file to an html page the dynamic text
    no longer display - It loads undefined in text box. However when I
    remove the movieclip from main movieclip text display no
    problem.

    that's as2 code, not as3. please post in the correct forum
    next time.
    either about.txt is not in the same directory as the html
    file that loads or embeds your swf or there's a case issue with
    about.txt really being About.txt, for example.

  • Adobe form -- Issue in Displaying Dynamic text along with Static text

    Hi All,
    I am having an issue when i am displaying a dynamic text along with static text in adobeforms.
    The dynamic text is slightly coming down and not aligned with the static text. i can see half row it is coming down.
    how to align both texts to be printed in same format.
    Request all of your expert advices in achieving this .
    Thank you in advance.
    Thanks&Regards,
    Phani Miriyaila.

    Hi,
    Select both dynamic and static text in the layout. Goto Object palette -> Layout. Give values to X,Y coordinates and Height & Width. Anchor properly and specify margins as well.
    Select both dynamic and static text in the layout. Right click on it and goto palettes -> Paragraph. It gives you the text alignment options. Align the text and give similar font and size.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • How to display dynamic text in flash CS5....

    i am using flash cs5...i created a game but when i m running it...it is  showing a message saying "Fonts should be embedded for any text that may be edited at runtime, other than text with the "Use Device Fonts""
    and i am not getting my dynamic text output.......please hwlp me out!!!!!!

    As the error message says, you need to embed the font(s) that you use in any input or dynamic text object so that Flash will have that font to use when displaying the dynamic text. There are several different ways to accomplish this. Are you using textField objects on the stage, or are you creating instances of textFields using Actionscript?

  • Scrolling event: movieclip instead of dynamic text

    Hello everybody. I am very very novice to actionscript, so probably my question will sound a little silly.
    I am trying to put an arabic text to scroll with a custom scrollbar. So I found a nice video in youtube about doing that with a dynamic text field. It works wonderful for latin characters (left to right and separated letters) but unfortunately not for arabic characters (they don't get connected). Actually, I don't care to use just a movieclip with the text instead of the dynamic text field. But I don't know how to change the actionscript code for the movie clip instead of the dynamic text field.
    Here I show you the code for the scrolling text in a dynamic text field (it's a short code), on the stage I got just the dynamic text field (instance name: texto_txt), the scrollBar (a vertical line, instance name: scrollBar_mc) and the scroller itself (a little rectangle, instance name:scrollHandle_mc):
    var content:String = "cjeihfirehjfejlkfjkerjfirjfejifjrijwkjfirwjekñlkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkllllllll";
    texto_txt.text = content;
    texto_txt.wordWrap = true;
    var min: Number = scrollHandle_mc.y;
    var max: Number = min +(scrollBar_mc.height - scrollHandle_mc.height);
    var intervalo: Number = max - min;
    var arrastrando: Boolean = false;
    var bounds: Rectangle = new Rectangle (scrollHandle_mc.x, scrollHandle_mc.y, 0, scrollBar_mc.height - scrollHandle_mc.height);
    scrollHandle_mc.addEventListener (MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, arrastrandoScroll);
    stage.addEventListener (MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, stopIt);
    function arrastrandoScroll(mouseEvent:MouseEvent)
    scrollHandle_mc.startDrag(false,bounds);
    arrastrando = true;
    scrollHandle_mc.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, progress);
    function stopIt(mouseEvent:MouseEvent)
    scrollHandle_mc.stopDrag();
    arrastrando = false;
    function progress(e:Event)
    var moverScroll:Number = scrollHandle_mc.y - min;
    var percent:Number = moverScroll/intervalo;
    if (arrastrando == true)
    texto_txt.scrollV = percent * texto_txt.maxScrollV;
    What I want to do is clear the dynamic text field and use instead a movieclip (text_mc) that includes already the text, the bounding box would be a mask. How do I change the actionscript? Could anyone help me out?

    It isn't really a matter of math, as much as it is logical reasoning, but if you plan to do things with programming, you better plan on getting comfortable with learning math as well.  Programming and math go hand-in-hand.
    Here's a simplified explanation of what your code needs to do -> If you move the scroller 25% of the total distance it can move, then the movieclip should be moved 25% of the distance it can move (in the oppostie direction).
    Your scroller handle can be moved a predefined distance.  In your code that value is called "intervalo".  See if you can figure out how that value is determined in the 3 lines of code.
    var min: Number = scrollHandle_mc.y;
    var max: Number = min +(scrollBar_mc.height - scrollHandle_mc.height);
    var intervalo: Number = max - min;
    Later on in your progress function you can see where the scrollbar handle values com into play again when determining where to place the textfield.  But if we change that to be the movieclip, it becomes more like the following...
    function progress(e:Event)
        var moverScroll:Number = scrollHandle_mc.y - min;
        var percent:Number = moverScroll/intervalo;
        if (arrastrando == true)
             yourMC.y = percent * (yourMCmaxY-yourMCminY) + yourMCMinY;
            // where  yourMCmaxY-yourMCminY is the mc's movement range
            // which is likely to be negative since yMax is likely < yMin for the mc.

  • Opengl ES: displaying dynamic text

    Hello, I searched around for days, but the only way I found to do it is using the Texture2D class and rebuilding the texture with the updated text at each frame: very very slow, the application fall on its knees.
    I have read that mixing Opengl ES context and UI Labels is a very bad idea too.
    So I said: let's go for bitmap fonts !
    I found several tutorials based on Windows OpenGL on how to build texture bitmap fonts: unfortunately they create fonts using typical windows commands such as wglUseFontBitmap, for instance.
    So how do you deal with it in MacOs and Iphone programming ? Any suggestion ? Thanks !

    Typically you should avoid mixing UIkit items but you could go ahead and try using a UILabel over a GLView. It typically doesn't slow it down that much but that's something worth testing.
    If you're just showing updated numbers and limited text make up an image with them such that you can tile out the sub-image areas (texture atlas) and set the texture coordinates accordingly. This way you're only loading the texture once.
    Do a search on Google. I think there are some alternate solutions already available.

  • Dynamic Text to be displayed as Image in Adobe Forms

    Hi ,
    I have a requirment to display dynamic text in the image format in the Adobe Form.
    I have tried using the Image field instead of text field.But could not solve the problem.
    kindly help me.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    if you send a text into a text field to the print form, it looks like a paper print, you cannot tell where there is a picture and where is the text. So you don´t care about the image/ text problem. If you need to make difference between two for the user, you can put the text (your image) into a rectangle, use a background or anything like this.
    Why would the image make any difference?

  • Dynamic text not showing up under a mask

    Hi All,
    So like many people, I've discovered the joy that you cannot display dynamic text boxes if they are masked.
    After browsing the internet I found a few things to try, first embedding the font, which I have done, and that didn't work.
    The other solution involves setting the mask to a display object, which I've done, sort of.
    I create a Sprite() in code (I use Flex Develop, and never code on the time line), then use the Sprite.graphics to draw the mask, then set my main stage movieClip's .mask property to equal this layer.
    That didn't work either.
    Is there a third option?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

    mask removed, the text still displayed, but I'm not sure what you meant by that, I can't see the field for the text itself, just the text, which is fine because it isn't an input box, the textfield itself is part of a movieClip, and I am able to adjust it no problems.
    After some fiddling around and forehead banging against desk I found that if I just drew two boxes at the edges of my video on top of everything and the same color as my background, it would cover what I wanted to be covered and leave the rest visible. Not an elegant solution, admittedly, but the one that I found and that works in the time constraints I have.
    Thanks for trying to help me once again kglad.
    I'll learn to ask the right question one day, I think.

  • Dynamic text rendering in Cp4

    I'm having an issue with an embedded AS2 SWF that spawns a MovieClip containing a dynamic text field populated with ActionScript. When I publish/preview the Captivate movie with externalized animations, the dynamic text renders fine. However, when I do NOT externalize animations, the dynamic text appears garbled.
    I'd go ahead and externalize animations in this project, but there are other embedded SWFs in the project that work correctly only when they are not externalized.
    Anyone have experience with this or a similar issue?

    I just had a similar problem and fixed it by embedding the font into the Flash SWF and also embedding uppercase and lower case characters.
    Not sure why this was needed since I never had to do that with Captivate 3, but that was the only thing that corrected the problem.

  • On button rollover Dynamic text and Movieclip appear

    Hi guys,
    I've got an issue - When one of my buttons is rolled over, I want text and a movieclip to appear. When the button is no longer rolled over, I want the text and movieclip to disappear.
    The way that I was going to do this was to have anchor_mc as an anchor, and upon rollover have the movieclip play from inside the anchor (as its at the exact X & Y that its needed at) and dynamic text appear.
    Questions:
    1) How do I attach mc_textbox to mc_anchor --- OR, how do I set coordinate for just where mc_textbox should show?
    2) How do I then make the movieclip disappear if the button is no longer rolled over?
    3) Is it not possible for me to merge all of the dynamic text functions into one function, using IF statements? I tried this, but couldn't work it out.
    AS3 code is attached below.
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    stop();
    line1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in1, false, 0, true);
    line1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    line2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in2, false, 0, true);
    line2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    line3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in3, false, 0, true);
    line3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    line4.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in4, false, 0, true);
    line4.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    line5.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in5, false, 0, true);
    line5.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    line6.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in6, false, 0, true);
    line6.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    line7.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in7, false, 0, true);
    line7.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    line8.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in8, false, 0, true);
    line8.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    line9.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in9, false, 0, true);
    line9.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    function line_in1(e:MouseEvent):void

    function line_out(e:MouseEvent):void
            line_output.text = "";
            var mc= new mc_empty(); addChild(mc);

    It isn't relly clear to me what you have versus what you want, so these answers may be equally unclear to you.
    1. One way to join them together is to maually place one inside the other while authoring the file.  Another way is to use addChild to add the text mc to the anchor...  mc_anchor.addChild(mc_textbox);  To control where the text mc appears you can set its x and y properties.using actionscript... mc_textbox.x = 0;
    2. To make the movieclip disappear you can set its visible property to false... mc_anchor.visible = false;
    3. You can probably reduce that code substantially, though it partly depends on what variations there are really going to be in the text that displays for each rollover.  For now, I'll assume the text will be entirely different for each...
    for(var i:uint=1; i<10; i++){
         this["line"+String(i)].addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, line_in, false, 0, true);
         this["line"+String(i)].addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, line_out, false, 0, true);
    function line_in(e:MouseEvent):void {
         var lineTarget:MovieClip = MovieClip(e:currentTarget);
          // could use a switch instead of the if's in series if you know what a switch is
         if(lineTarget == line1){
              // do things for line1
         } else if(lineTarget == line2){
              // do things for line2
         ) else if.... etc

  • Displaying images in dynamic text fields

    Hi, I am having some difficulty getting my images to display
    in a dynamic text field. The images are linked from a txt file with
    the <img src=""> tag however they are not showing up in the
    text area. The rest of the html are rendering fine except the image
    tag. My example online is here:
    www.supernaturalmedia.com.
    Here is the code I used in Flash:
    var style_sheet = new TextField.StyleSheet();
    var css_url = "global.css";
    style_sheet.load(css_url);
    news.StyleSheet = style_sheet;
    loadVariables("projects_news.txt", this.news);
    My css styles also isn't loadin so i temporarily am using
    html styles for formatting. I'd like to get the css to work as
    well.
    My movie is published as Flash Player 6, AS 2.0.
    I'd appreciate any helpful advice.
    Thanks,
    Stanton

    1. don't assign the stylesheet property of your textfield
    until loading of global.css is complete. ie, use the onLoad handler
    for stylesheets.
    2. you have movieclip images that are linked for export and
    you're using their linkage id in src property of the img
    tag?

  • Displaying the result of a calculation in a dynamic text box

    Hi folks,
    I'm having a very minor issue here (operator error, I'm sure ). With the help of some folks here, I've created a series of calculations, and I've got that part down. Now, I just need it to show up in the movie.
    I've created the dynamic text box in Flash (CS3), but when I hit test, it won't show up.
    After all the calculations, I should have a figure that I call totalmoney. My dynamic text box is called total. The user doesn't need to hit anything for it to appear. It just appears as part of the movie.
    Here's my code:
    stop();
    var startDate:Date = new Date(2010,0,12);  // use your  startyear, startmonth, startdate in the new Date() parameters.
    var  currentDate:Date = new Date();  // assuming user's clock is correct and in your  timezone.  else use server date/time.
    var numberOfSeconds:Number =  (currentDate.getTime()-startDate.getTime())/1000;
    var interest:Number =  (numberOfSeconds*0.74356);
    var totalmoney:Number =  (interest+15,000,000);
    function displaytotal(evt:TextEvent):void {
         total.text = "totalmoney";
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Napo

    You didn't have to bury any of the calculations in the function--leaving it as you had it is better.  They could remain where they a=werew, and you'll probably find you want them outside it if you have other plans for using them.  If left inside, they only have scope inside.  In the programming world, it's good to think of functions as things that do one thing and one thing only (though it isn't often practiced that way)--it's called modular design.
    When you place an event as an argument for a function, it typically means that there is an event listener that initiates the call to the function.  If you work with buttons you'll see what I mean.  But if the plan is to create your own call to a function when you desire it as such, not have it driven by an event listener, then you don't need to pass any event to it, though you may pass some other type of variable to it if need be.
    For instance, what you have now will call the function without an argument because the function has the value built into its code....
    displaytotal();
    But you could also make the function a little more generic and set it up to recieve the value instead as an argument...
    function displaytotal(amt:Number):void {
         total.text = String(amt); // an earlier error of mine
    displaytotal(totalmoney);
    That would make your function a little more useful.  Now it could be used to display other Number variables as well.
    // my earlier error was that a textfield displays text, so you need to convert the Number value to s String.
    Hope I'm not confusing you.

  • Dynamic Text Field is not displaying foreign characters... HELP!

    I have a dynamic text field that is not displaying foreign characters properly. They appear as boxes.
    Here's what I've tried.
    Under properties for the text field, I clicked on the embed characters button. In there, I pasted all the special characters I would need and clicked okay. Shouldn't this be enough for the text to display properly? What am I missing? Please help...

    More info: I'm noticing that in the actual dynamic text field in my .FLA file, if I type a foreign character like é, it pops up as a block. My family font is set to New Caledonia... is it possible that New Caledonia doesn't have those particular glyphs? The thing that doesn't make sense to me though is, last year when I made this card, it worked fine with New Caledonia... Any help is greatly appreciated!!
