Router Crashes Vista Laptop

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233
If you are having problems when a Vista laptop wakes up from sleep mode.  Usualy knockes the laptop and other devices off the network and hoses the routers reservation as well.
Set the dhcp Broadcast flag to 0 in the registry and the problem stops.

  • ITunes crashing Vista/laptop

    Hi,
Having serious issues with iTunes 9.2. Every time I attempt to open iTunes on my laptop the whole system stops. The mouse pointer is frozen, CtrlAltDel doesn't work and I have to turn the power supply off to restart. It does the same thing when my nano is connected (assuming this is because iTunes is attempting to open. The exact same thing is happening with Skype so it's probably something about my system as opposed to iTunes only.
Any ideas? It's driving me mad.
    Cheers!
    Andy

    Go to
Skype-->File -> Options -->Hand/Headsets-->USB Audio Device(do not use windows default device)
You can also tick the ring pc speaker check box as this is a good backup to alert you even if the main speakers are off or turned down.
    Start-->Control panel-->Sound and Audio devices
On the audio tab set the default playback device to your main soundcard.
In Audio (untick) Use only default devices

  • New FIOS router, VIsta Laptop Cannot Access Internet

I too have the new FIOS router with 75/35 speed.  I have just been trying to install the router and have been successful in getting wifi connected on two devices (Win 7 laptop and Kindle), but I cannot get my Vista laptop to access the internet.  It shows the wifi being connected but no internet connection.
Does this have something to do with the Vista OS?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Anyone at Verizon who is paying attention would realize this problems is many years old with no solution.  People are literally begging for help in dozens of online forums, to no avail (Google search usually provides me results faster than any tech support).  I have the exact same issue.  All my wireless devices connect to the internet through the Verizon MI424WR router with no problem.  My Vista laptop connects just fine via Ethernet cable, but not the wireless.  I can make a wireless connection to the router, and the router admin page shows it is, in fact, connected, but absolutely NO connection to internet is possible.
BTW, the laptop had no problem for years connecting to the internet via a Linksys WRT54G connected to Verizon DSL.
All that the troubleshooting "guide" provides is the usual basic "plug in, turn off, turn on, reset" nonsense that might help only those who can't stop their VCR clock from blinking.
So please, Verizon, bump this up to a FAQ (because it is VERY frequently asked), and help us find a solution.

  • I have windows 7 and vista laptops on win 7 after the latest updates I was no longer able to browse the net. I have router conection but it shows no internet

since the last update to 14.0.1 and updating plugins for adobe shockwave flash my internet connection dropped out. I have two other laptops, an Ipod touch and samsung phone on the same router and all work fine. I have connection to the router but diagnosis shows no internet access. I updated the same plugin on my Vista laptop and found the same problem occurred. I have reset all network settings and the router back to factory and setup again but still the same

    Hi mysticpjd,
this really does not seem to be an Internet browser issue. Have you tried a different browser (Internet Explorer)? I assume that the problem persists there right?

  • Trying to Home share an itunes library from Vista laptop to Windows 8 laptop

Alright, so both laptops have been setup the same, home sharing turned on, exact same apple id and password. Both computers can see each other in the dropdown menu for "library",  HOWEVER, while the Vista laptop can see & import the library from the Windows 8 laptop, then Windows 8 laptop cannot see & therefore not import the library from the Vista laptop & out of the system without issue, the router has been checked to ensure that nothing is standing in the way on that end either. Is this some sort of backwards incompatibility? Or am I overlooking something  obscenely obvious? Any and all help is welcome, I have looked at a large number of discussions here and throughout the web already, nothing seems to work for my situation. Please help!!!

    Hello there MicknMadd,
It sounds like one of your computers can see the others library and import from it, but the other does not. You've done a lot of great troubleshooting and verification already, and I would recommend steps 5-7 from the following article to help further troubleshoot:
    Troubleshooting Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
    5. Check Firewall settings
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.
In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.
If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.
For Mac OS X, you don't have to edit the port addresses, but make sure the firewall in Apple () menu > System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
    Block all incoming connections
    Allow only essential services
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
For more information on ports used by Apple products, see Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products.
    6. Quit and reopen apps and iTunes
If connectivity issues persist, quit and reopen iTunes on your computer. Then, quit and reopen the apps on your iOS device.
Note that Home Sharing cannot transfer or stream audiobook content purchased from Audible.com. See Audible.com for information on using their content with multiple devices.
    7. Restart your network router
Restart your home network router using the method recommended in documentation from the manufacturer. This may include disconnecting the power cord for thirty seconds or more.
Note: During this period, Internet services such as a VoIP-based phone will not work, and any additional routers may need to be reset in sequence.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • HP Photosmart c309 and printing from Vista laptop on wired/wireless network

Ok going to be as thorough at possible here.
Its a brand new HP Photosmart c309 which I received this past Weds, so far so good both my Wife and I are enjoying it. Now I have it wired into my home network which consists of a Linksys switch in our home office and Netgear wireless router in the basement. The Linksys switch is wired to the router in the basement for internet/network connection...I have my Dell workstation running Windows XP SP3 (with all the latest patches from Microsoft, Mcafee AV) and the photosmart printer wired to the switch. I installed the HP software and drivers from the disk on the XP workstation and all is well...prints, scans and I'm able to view the printer settings, ink levels and what not.
NOW my Wife's Dell Vista laptop (which is patched to the latest from Microsoft, Mcafee AV) is getting really annoying. First I hate Vista but that’s another story...the Vista laptop connects to our home network via the wireless network through the Netgear router. So I followed the same steps as my XP workstation, it finds the printer during setup and all is well till the part when it wants to send a test page...so I opt to skip the photo test page and just do a standard one. Well it "sends" a test page or at least it looks like it does but nothing comes out of the printer (ie no activity from printer). The printer icon shows up in the system tray in the lower right hand corner of the screen near the time and when I put the mouse pointer over the icon is says "0 in queue" so I double click the icon to see if I can get more info and nothing happens. Right click the icon and choose open all active printers and again nothing. The printer icon is in the system tray for about 10-15 seconds and then disappears.
So I'm a little confused here, I check the printer in "printers & faxes" and both it and the fax part are listed...the printer even says it’s in "ready" status. I start the HP solution software on the laptop and I am able to scan from the printer to the Vista laptop fine, I'm able to view printer settings, network settings, ink levels and what not. I JUST CAN'T printer to it.
I tried another test page from the printer properties within Windows, again the icon shows up in the system tray and it says "0 in queue" and the icon disappears after 10-15 seconds. I then try to print a picture using the HP software and the same thing...icon shows up in system tray "0 in queue" and it disappears.
Did I do something wrong or am I missing a special step for Vista machines? I did uninstall and reinstall software/drivers and manually removed the printer and then reinstalled everything with no luck and no change...still acts the same.
I'm lost at what else to try. I think I tried the obvious stuff. I've searched the web to come up blank with a similar situation like mine...I've seen others complain about printing 1 page documents and the printer prints 3,6,16 pages at a time which is the opposite from my situation.
Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bruno

Have you received an answer to this question?  I'm having the exact same problem.  Spent 4 hours on the phone with HP tech support and no solution.

  • Difficulty connecting Mac Mini and Windows Vista laptop

I have a Windows Vista laptop. I have been connecting to the Internet via a wireless DSL router. I just purchased a Mac Mini and want to hardwire the Mac Mini to the router and also create a home newtork where the Mac Mini can transfer files to and from the Vista laptop and vice versa.
What is the best way to do this? Could you please provide detailed information as well? I don't have a lot of experience with computers or networking.
    Thank you!

    Hi Bruce!

  • Itunes 9 download crashes my laptop

    Hi all,
I got a brand new Ipod for my birthday and on connecting it to my laptop it told me i needed at least itunes 9.0 for it to work.
I currently have itunes 8.1.2 and for some reason i can't install itunes 9.0.
Whenever the download is about 75% complete my laptop crashes, even task manager. And i have to manually reboot before i can do anything.
I've tried to download itunes 9.0 from the website but the same thing happens it crashes just when it begins to install Quicktime.
I uninstalled itunes and then when i tried to uninstall Quicktime again everything crashed. I have clicked repair as well and again it crashes my laptop.
Pleaseeee can someone help me i just want to get up and running with my lovely new ipod and am soo frustrated.
    Thanks,
    Caitlin

I uninstalled itunes and then when i tried to uninstall Quicktime again everything crashed. I have clicked repair as well and again it crashes my laptop.
Good lord. That's a fairly dramatic symptom to have occur during an install/uninstall (nowadays), Caitlin.
My worry here is that there's some disk damage on the PC "underneath" some QuickTime program files. So when Windows Installer tries to remove those files, it hits the dodgy patch of disk, and everything turns to custard. (Usually with one of those sorts of problems you'd get a 2330 installation error message, but if the disk damage is of the right/wrong type, a freeze of the PC would also be quite plausible.)
Try running a disk check over the drive you've got your QuickTime program files installed on. Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors:
[Check your hard disk for errors|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-fo r-errors]
Does the disk check find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an iTunes/QuickTime install to go through properly afterwards?

  • My router crashes at the sight of my macbook.!! I have to keep them well separated

    Hi
I live in France and have a Orange router for wifi with 2 laptops, my MacBook and a Sony Vaio.
The router crashes whenever I approach it with my Ipad Or Mac. It works fine. It hates Apple?  I am constantly resetting. Both laptops  state that there is an IP conflict. My mac is designed to adapt to that...?
Can you suggest action please?  Merci

You may have to see if it is fairly easy to set up wireless by hardware identification number, commonly referred to as 'mac address' in DHCP in router server; which has nothing to do with Apple, as all hardware can use their ID to connect. Including printers so equipped. This is usually done by ethernet or wireless, and imparts a greater degree of security at your home base for those items you have. Is there something there that is repeating or re-sending the wireless signal,  perhaps on the same frequency as the router? Channel numbers can be changed, for example, if there are two. But there are more complex things to consider if the matter is worse, and so far there is no explanation for this conflict. The MacBook and Sony should be able to use the same wireless router base station.
How is file sharing and internet sharing set up on these competing devices? This can be a place to look.
    •Cascading router and DHCP conflicts?
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/44038-42-cascading-router-dhcp-conflict
In an area a bit more complex, the matter of IP Conflict, this one when moving between wi-fi router and repeater, is among the more difficult: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/38238-43-conflict-moving-wifi-router-wifi-repe ater This may not be what is happening with your competing wi-fi products, but that matter of settings, since you can share files, and also web connections through the Apple products. As an option.
Other router conflicts are noted, from a larger volume of search results:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/27902-43-router-conflict
Also, it may be a matter of choosing how the MacBook connects to the available wireless, and what those wireless settings are in the router, and if the MacBook shares an internet connect to another product, that could be a source of conflict if not set up correctly. Something may be seeing a third product as a competing source of a potential wi-fi connection to the internet, and it isn't.
Some of these things have a dynamic IP address (changes) and another could be using fixed IP addresses. The router 's should be fixed. All of mine are and I can use four Macs, or more PCs via an Apple branded wireless router.
There are several possibilities, and most difficult to guess at a distance. But the settings in each brand and item have to be looked into, as they all have the ability to be customized to fit certain working parameters.
Not sure if this helps any... at 2AM.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Limited access message on Vista laptop

I have a linksys wireless g 2.4 router. I recently setup WEP security on this router.
When our Vista laptop connects to our network, it shows a "Limited Access" message below the SSID name. What does the limited access message mean?
Also, we noticed that around 8pm-11pm every night, our wireless speed slows down drastically. Every website we go to takes a few minutes to display. This happens on all of our PCs connecting wirelessly. Any ideas what to look for on my router that may cause this?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

Whats the Model number of your Router ?
If you are getting "Limited Access" on your Vista computer, these indicates that your computer is not connected to the Internet and its having only Limited access. So in these case you can change the security Mode on your Router to WPA Personal and then try to connect to your wireless network.
If you are facing intermittent connection problem on your wireless computer, then i think you need to change some settings on your router. Follow the settings bellow.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now on your vista computer... Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >>> Network and Sharing Center >>>Under tak you need to click on "Manage Wireless Network" and Remove all the Preferred Networks from the List and close the window.
Now try to re-connect to your wireless network using the WPA security key.

  • ITunes sync keeps crashing Vista and Win7 - driving me nuts! Please help

I cannot get iTunes to complete a sync of either my iPhone 3GS or my wife's 3G after updating both to firmware v4.0.1. The back ups appear to complete, then the sync goes through app updating OK and seems to crash when loading music in playlists, or when troubleshooting, I deselected syncing music altogether, it crashed during syncing photo albums from folders. When it crashes, the laptop (Vista) just completely shuts off. I clean uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes and had the same problem. I disabled the firewall and anti-virus programs as well with no luck.
Then, I swapped out the hard drive for a new one with a clean installation of Win7, freshly installed iTunes and copied and updated my music library and tried to sync and got the exact same crashing problem with the laptop abruptly shutting off. So after around 8 hours on a Saturday futzing around with this, I have accomplished nothing and am really frustrated.  Can anyone suggest something to get iTunes working properly?
    Thanks...

Will not complete a sync without crashing and saying cannot read to the device or something to that effect.
    That sounds familiar.
Just doublechecking ... have you worked through the suggestions from the following document in the course of your troubleshooting to date?
[What to do when Windows displays a blue screen error message or restarts when syncing the iPhone or iPod touch|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1502]
(The stuff I was worried about in my initial reply has since been documented in its own troubleshooting document. Some of the symptoms of that are covered in: [iTunes for Windows: System restarts, blue screen, or quits unexpectedly when accessing iTunes Store|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3441] )

  • WRT54G v8 works with 2 iphones, 1 xp laptop, not vista laptop

Got a WRT54G v8, upgraded firmware to v8_8.00.5.002, power cycled everything. Tried WEP & WPA-personal in wireless security setting. Wireless connection showed up as "Connected", 4 bars. Sometimes it showed Connected with Limited Connectivity. It used to be "Connected to security-enabled network" with my old wireless router. My 2 iphones and another XP laptop both work, all able to access wirelessly without any problem. Wired connection to my vista laptop also works. only wireless to the vista laptop not working. I setup everything (via 192.168.1.1) on my Vista HP laptop. Did I need to update anything on my vista laptop? please HELP.

okay. I just had a chat on linksys online-chat for an hour. The technician walked me through, and finally fixed the problem. The key was not to let Vista detect IP automatically on the wireless connection. 1) go to 192.168.1.1, go to Status tab, copy down the DNS 1/2/3 addresses 2) Start->Ctrl Panel->Network Sharing->Manage network connection a) right click Wireless network connection->properties b) select TCP IP V4, properties c) specify IP addr manually IP addr: 192.168.1.20 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.1.1 d) specify DNS server address manually type in 2 DNS addresses you copied earlier hit OK 3) restart computer 4) reconnect to wireless network.
(Mod note: Removed non-public information. Thank you.)
