Rpm details wanted for Solaris

Hi All,
I have rpm file for solaris. But when I do man rpm it says no manual entry. So how do I extract the package from the RPM file? Is there any rpm equivalent command in Solaris? My Solaris version is 5.9.Do I need to install relevant package for that?
Looking forward for your response

Solaris does not ship with RPM support, and most software for it is distributed in SVR4 pkg format, not RPM.
However, it's certainly possible to use RPM binaries and create a separate RPM repository. For a site that wants to manage all software with RPM, it could be useful.
You'll need to compile or obtain rpm binaries separately though.

You need to either use the full path - /opt/sfw/bin/rpm or add /opt/sfw/bin/ to the path statement in your profile.
If you are trying to run from the /opt/sfw/bin/ directory then you do the following:
    # ./rpm
RPMs are mainly for Linux. I have seen only a couple RPMs for Solaris in the last 15 years and they came from a third-party vendor. What are you trying to install??

  • 64-bit WLS 11G for Solaris?

I can not locate the 64-bit version of WLS 11G for Solaris. When I go to the download page all I see are 32-bit versions (at least they look like 32-bit version as denoted by the filenames such as wls1031_solaris32.bin).
I have attempted to go through the e-delivery site but do not want to download a 21 part 11Gig file if it is not the correct one.
I would appreciate any help at all.

I am pretty confident that you need the 64 bit JVM for your platform, then you need to use the generic installer, this is based on how it has been done in prior releases.
So you can find the available JVM's for your platform here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/oracle%20fusion%20middleware%2011gr1%20(11%201%201%201%200)%20certification%20matrix.xls
In this case that would be Sun JVM 1.6.0_11+
    OR
    JRockit 6 Update 5 R27.6.2+
Then you should be able to run the generic installer here with that downloaded supported JDK:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/wls_main.html
I was not able to find anything specific on the documentation pages that described this process in detail, but you can always open a support case to get some assistance. I will check with the documentation team to see if that is going to be documented or already is.
If you look at the 10gR3 releases, it shows how the generic installer is used, for example:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/platform/suppconfigs/configs/solaris/solaris10_103.html#104355

  • Jre for solaris x86

    hi,
I know that there is a separate JRE for Solaris X86. But my problem is that i have Solaris x86 installed an amd 64 bit machine and also on an Intel 64 bit machine.
I would like to know if it is possible to use the same jre for both the machines.

Edited by: Diganth.A on Feb 4, 2009 11:16 AMThis all depends on the operating system your are using and the type of 64 bit hardware architecture type.
Can you please provide more specific details about the architecture and operating systems you are trying to install your JRE on?
Typically you will want to download a pre-configured JRE for your OS platform and hardware architecture.

  • Build for solaris 8 on solaris 10 - possible?

I want to build/compile an application for solaris 8, but I only have access to a machine running solaris 10. Can I compile for solaris 8 on a solaris 10 machine, and if so, what do I have to do to make it work?

The short answer is generally no.
The long answer is that it can be done but you will need to make sure that on the Solaris 10 machine you only use functions/headers/libraries that are available on Solaris 8 otherwise they will not be found and the software won't work.

  • Customize Line Items Details Loading for Multiload TEXT-Based

    Hi all,
has anybody customized HFM adapter to enable line item details loading for Text-based multiload files?
    Is it possible?
    Thanks

But then we wouldn't have one text multiload file but several text files that will be converted into several .dat files to be loaded into HFM.
Our current problem is that we have a multiload text file (we can convert from the Multiload Excel) but this file contains line item details. We want to keep the performance of loading only one .Dat file, but also load line item details.
What about if the user split the multiload files into two:
    * Excel Multiload just with Line Item accounts (there are not so much)
    * Text Multiload for standard accounts
This would be a nice solution as well? If they are happy....
    Thanks

  • Is there any version of Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.2.0.2  for Solaris

    Hi
Thank you for reading my post
Is there any version of Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.2.0.2 for Solaris X86 available or under development?
Does any one tried the sparc version on x86?
    Thanks

I looked there and it say there is only SPARC architecture available.
I want to ask whether any one tried to install the sparc version on X86 or not as it is java and should run everywhere.
    Thanks.

    Hi Naveeny,
You can download any of these installs. It contains manual installation instructions that explain how to install on any platform. We currently do not plan to have an installer for Solaris, but I install most of the time manually myself. The installer installs its own oc4j instance and jdk.
If you want to deploy on any existing application server you need to deploy manually anyway. Just download the cd unzip and read the install.htm or install.pdf.
Hope that is acceptable to you.

  • Is Oracle 11.1.0.7 client for solaris relaesed or not?

Just want to know if 11.1.0.7 client for solaris is releaseed or not. I only can find 11.1.0.6 client for solaris on OTN download site. I plan to upgrade my server to 11.1.0.7.
    Thanks

11.1.0.7 is a patchset, not complete software. As usual patchsets are available on metalink, not on OTN. You need a valid account.

  • Install error for Solaris 8 intel

When my Solaris 8 install gets to the spot where it asks for the language to use (0-9, english is 0, which I want), anything I hit on my keyboard sends bogus VT codes to the screen. Earlier in the install process (when it asks for solaris interactive vs custom for example), my keyboard works fine, I can choose 1 or 2 there.
Has anyone else seen the problem? I've tried multiple keyboards, and they all do the same thing.

Sounds like the dell keyboard problem:
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisonintel/message/20087
The workaround is to attach an USB keyboard.

  • Compiling for solaris 9 on solaris 8 machine

Hi, is it possible to use a solaris 8 machine with workshop, to compile binary for solaris 9.
I need to compile user-mode app as well as kernel modules both for 64/32 bit environments.
The modules are all dynamically linked.
If this is possible, what is the proper procedure??
    ERAN.

For user space apps, if you are sticking to the published interfaces (ie: not using any private, non-public symbols you might have dug up in our libraries) then compiling and linking on Solaris 8 and running on Solaris 9 is not a problem, at least for user space. Run appcert on your application if you want to ensure you aren't using anything private. We are forward-compatible in this sense.
As for kernel modules, I don't know enough to comment.

  • Lightning 1.0 build for the Thunderbird 3b4 build for Solaris 10?

I use Thunderbird as my primary email client because quite frankly the version of Evolution in Solaris 10 is awful.
I posted to the mozilla.support.calendar list over in google groups some months ago asking what happened to the Solaris builds of Lightning
    http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.support.calendar/browse_thread/thread/12e27450b2cc67e0/7877dde2ace2ebf2
Essentially they said Sun used to provide servers to build Lightning on and now they don't. What does it take to get Sun to provide those again?
Evolution 1.46 is atrocious. 1999 called and wants there email client back....
The latest build for Solaris is Lightning 0.9. Of course the project itself has moved on to 1.0+. 0.9 still works with Thunderbird 2. Thunderbird 3 while still in beta is already so much better than Thunderbird 2, but it requires Lightning 1.0 builds. You can download Sun contributed builds of Thunderbird and Firefox from the mozilla releases site. Why not build recent Lightning builds so people can actually use their Sun calendar with the Sun contributed version of Thunderbird?

A similar question was asked w.r.t. 64-bit Linux builds:
"Dan, regarding 64bit nightlys, this is somewhat dependant on Thunderbird itself having 64 bit nightlys. We will surely have contrib builds with 64 bits for releases though."
The latest build for Solaris is Lightning 0.9. Of course the project itself has moved on to 1.0+. The project has not hit 1.0 release (or beta) yet.

  • Kernel patch update for solaris 10 x86

I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
If anyone done this please suggest and guide me..

For Solaris 10 x86 the latest offered with smpatch is 125101-07 and yes it may be recommended to patch. Then again you said clustered with sun cluster? You may want to check the documentation and if your machines aren't facing the internet you may wait for 7/07 to hit the street and do an upgrade.

  • Cross compiling apps on solaris 8 for solaris 10 x86 and x64

    Hi All,
We have a few applications built on Solaris 8. and we want to build the same apps on Solaris 10 x86 and x64 but the problem is clearcase does not support Solaris 10 yet.
Can we cross compile the apps on Solaris 8 for Solaris 10 x86 and x64 ? and how ?
waiting for any info on this.
    TIA,
    warm regards,
    Girish

FYI, I noticed the reply on Sun Studio General Forum:
If you build an app on one version of Solaris, the app will run on later Solaris versions. So in particular, you can build an x86 application on Solaris 8 and run it on Solaris 9 and 10.
Unfortunately, an x64 application must be built on a Solaris x64 system, which first became available with Solaris 10.
