Rsync script - ignore some files, include others?

I am using an rsync script to backup files from one Mac to another. I have the "--ignore-existing" flag set to avoid copying files that haven't changed. However, there are certain files that I ALWAYS want to sync, regardless of whether or not they've changed. Is there a flag that I can add that will allow me to specify the files? They should be easy to run a match on, since they all contain the word "library" somewhere in their filename.

If I understand correctly, you're synchronizing two iTunes libraries with rsync, while iTunes is running on the receiver, and it doesn't immediately register the changes. That's the expected behavior. iTunes loads its library file when it starts up, and it doesn't expect the library to change during the session unless it makes the change itself. Copying unchanged files will have no effect on that behavior. rsync has no way of notifying iTunes that the library has changed.
If you want to share an iTunes library between two machines, you have three options: (1) make the library folder an AFP sharepoint; (2) use the synchronization features built into iTunes; or (3) if you insist on changing the library externally, quit and relaunch iTunes on the receiver to make it recognize the changes.

• AE CC Mac: After Effects Collect Files not collecting some files, including project!

I need to send a client some collected projects, but the File > Dependencies > Collect Files command is not collecting some of the files (after the project has been reduced, so all the files in the project are required), including the project file!
I just end up with a collected folder containing a "Footage" folder that includes some of the files and not others. This is a nightmare!! There are hundreds of files that will take days I do not have to manually track each file down.
Any suggestions?

• Keynote 09 opens some files, not others

I'm running Snow Leopard and iWork 09. I have several very important Keynote presentations that I dearly need to access. While Keynote will open some of the past files, it will not open several of these critical files. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Apple, Spotlight not only fails to work as
advertised, it's essentially useless. A search tool
that cannot be relied on is a search tool that is not
worth using at all. Your failure to make this vaunted
"feature" work by version 10.4.3 is really a black
mark on the Apple brand.
Here's my experience:
1. Upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3. Process was long
but went smoothly. New OS is snappier and has several
welcome new features.
2. Experimented with Spotlight. It quickly found text
buried in Word and other documents. Stellar.
3. Spotlight did not find text inside Wordperfect
documents. This did not surprise me because I don't
have Wordperfect on my system, so these files were
unreadable.
4. Converted the Wordperfect files to Word, saved
them, opened them and closed them. Spotlight still
did not find text in these files.
5. Created a new Word file. Spotlight did not find
EITHER the name of the file or the text inside it.
6. Used Onyx to re-index Spotlight. No improvement.
Turned computer off and back on a couple times. Still
no improvement.
Note: I have not made any changed to the Privacy
setting or anything else, other than to re-order the
display of Spotlight's results. Do not have any
third-party system software or utilities besides
Onyx, and this problem occurred before I even
installed Onyx. Also have never fiddled with the
command line.
Any tips? And any idea when Apple will get its act
together? This is a real shame. Apple should be
embarrassed.
-- Disappointed Mac user.
Update:
I re-indexed Spotlight by marking then unmarking my Macintosh HD as Private in Spotlight Preferences. Spotlight then found the name and contents of the Word file I created after upgrading to Tiger. Who knows why it didn't find this file the first time I re-indexed.
Spotlight continued to ignore all content of the files that I converted from Wordperfect to Word -- until I opened each file and saved them using the "save as" command. Then Spotlight worked.

• OCR works without issue on some files, not others?

Acrobat 10.1.1
While working with converting presentation slides to OCR and exporting them I am only able to get some PDFs to properly OCR. I am using the same process though it seems it simply won't take on some while it does others.
Tools > Recognize Text > In this file > (Default settings) Ok
and yet I get different outcomes.
Is it possible that background colors/type color/font etc. are conflicting with the OCR process? Again keep in mind these are presentation slides that have been converted into PDFs that I am attempting to OCR for export into Word.
Thanks.

Most of the time you would not be able to OCR such documents because they are not pure graphics. OCR in Acrobat can only be done on pure graphics. If there is else on the page, OCR will not work. A work around is to save the document as a TIFF and then import all the TIFF files produced into a new PDF and run OCR on that. Be careful to use a high enough resolution, the other aspect than can cause OCR to fail (there is a minimum resolution -- 200 or 300 dpi).

• Stop Dreamweaver loading scripts/CSS files included in a page

Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 (Mac OS X 10.10, Yosemite) has a big BUG... isn't possibile build with it large/complex websites.
If I have a website with large numbers of css files (or scripts), Dreamweaver takes too much time to load/save a page that included them (the wheel turns indefinitely).
Is it possible to stop Dreamweaver from loading scripts and CSS files included in a page while I'm working on it (even temporarily)?
I know that without this function (load external files) Dreamweaver is absolutely useless, but at the moment I haven't still found another IDE tool and I need to work with speed.
Thanks

To turn off styles in Design View only, go to View > Style Rendering > untick Display Styles. Or consider using a Design-Time Style Sheet.

1. Edit -> Preferences -> Code Hints -> Disable description tooltips
2. Edit -> Preferences -> Highlighting -> Untick both Live Data Untranslated and Translated
3. Edit -> Preferences -> Sync Settings -> Untick all in sync settings

i received the following message while i was on my macbook air "you do not have enough space in your start up disk - you must delete some files"-restarted; only got startup noise then blank screen. i waited for a few minutes to see if it would load - nothing just the lit up screen but nothing loaded - held power button it asked did i really want to turn off - i selected shutdown -turned off and left it off for awhile tried to turn on no noise no screen load. the same lit up screen but nothing loading. please help thx in advance if anyone can offer some suggestions

You can get there from here (booting normally); it just may take you a few steps to do it.
If the disk is almost full and the system won't boot then sometimes it will boot in Safe Mode.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
Empty the trash after it boots.
Then for hints on how to free disk/SSD storage see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5872318?tstart=0
If the Safe Mode boot does not do the trick then you can install OS X on an external hard disk, boot from that, and then delete files. You can also reach the disk via Target Mode. A third option is to take it to an Apple store where they can do a network boot and help you remove some files.

• Why does my script ignore values in variable only some of the time?

Hello,
I'm a beginner at Powershell and am writing a script to gather the deployment details on all Azure Cloud Services attached to a Azure Subscription, including the info for any service that does not have a deployment.
I understand that the way I'm going about this may be wrong and I am NOT looking for any help creating a final script. Some of my script is written specifically so that I can better understand what it's doing (for learning purposes).
What I am looking for is help understand why my current script behaves the way it does.
Here's my current script:
#Create a report that shows the created date and latest deployment date for all
#hosted services (cloud services)deployments in MyAzureSubscription
Select-AzureSubscription MyAzureSubscription
$ServiceNames = Get-azureservice
foreach ($service in $ServiceNames){
$ServiceName = $service | select -ExpandProperty ServiceName
$ServiceDateModified = $service | select -ExpandProperty DateModified
$service |
get-azuredeployment -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue -ErrorVariable NoDeployment |
Select @{Name="ServiceName";Expression={$ServiceName}}, DeploymentName, Status, CreatedTime, LastModifiedTime, @{Name="ServiceDateModified";Expression={$ServiecDateModified}}, @{Name="NoDeployment";Expression={$NoDeployment}} |
Sort-Object -Propert DeploymentName |
export-csv "outputfile.csv" -notypeinformation -append
#Test statements below
#Write-Host "NoDeployment Below:"
#$Service | select ServiceName | Write-Host
#Write-Error $NoDeployment
Write-Host $ServiceName
The output file only contains a list of servicenames and deployment details for services that do have a deployment. None of the services that have no deployments are added/exported to the csv file. However, the "write-host $ServiceName"
writes ALL the service names in the powershell window, regardless of whether there's a deployment or not.
What I don't understand is why the Select @{Name="ServiceName";Expression={$ServiceName}} only outputs the service names of services that have deployments instead of ALL service names regardless of whether they have a deployment or not.
I've already proven that the variable $ServiceName does, at some point, save the ServiceName into the $ServiceName variable by writing it to host on each iteration of the foreach loop. So why is it ignoring some ServiceNames when outputting/exporting
to the csv file?
Thanks!

Hi Landshrkk,
The script only outputs the names of the services that have deployments, because the get-azuredeployment cmdlet encounter error and didn't pass the result to select cmdlet, please try the script below:
$output=@()
Select-AzureSubscription MyAzureSubscription
$ServiceNames = Get-azureservice
foreach ($service in $ServiceNames){
$ServiceName = $service | select -ExpandProperty ServiceName
$ServiceDateModified = $service | select -ExpandProperty DateModified
$s=$service |get-azuredeployment -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue -ErrorVariable NoDeployment
$output += New-Object PSObject -Property @{
ServiceName = $ServiceName
DeploymentName = $s.DeploymentName
Status = $s.Status
CreatedTime = $s.CreatedTime
LastModifiedTime = $s.LastModifiedTime
ServiceDateModified = $ServiecDateModified
NoDeployment = $NoDeployment}
$output|Sort-Object -Propert DeploymentName |export-csv "outputfile.csv" -notypeinformation
If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.
Best Regards,
Anna Wang

• Fx:include and fx:script - when is the included fxml file parsed?

I'm curious to know when an included (via fx:include tag) fxml document is parsed and if a script defined in the main fxml document can reference elements from the included document. The example below results in the following error message: +"sun.org.mozilla.javascript.internal.EcmaError: ReferenceError: "loadOrdersButton" is not defined. (<Unknown source>#2) in <Unknown source> at line number 2"+
Example:
Main.fxml
The script fails to find the loadOrdersButton defined in HeaderFields.fxml. (Yes the button's fx:id is set to loadOrdersButton)

<BorderPane prefHeight="800.0" prefWidth="1200.0" xmlns:fx="http://javafx.com/fxml">
<top>
<fx:include source="HeaderFields.fxml">
<fx:script>
loadOrdersButton.setVisible( false );
</fx:script>
</fx:include>
</top>

</BorderPane>
HeaderFields.fxml

<AnchorPane xmlns:fx="http://javafx.com/fxml">
<children>
<Pane>
<children>

</children>
</Pane>
</children>
</AnchorPane>

I'm curious to know when an included (via fx:include tag) fxml document is parsed It is parsed as soon as it is encountered. In other words, the include is fully processed before the next element in the including file is processed.
and if a script defined in the main fxml document can reference elements from the included document.It cannot. FXML IDs are considered "private" to the document and its associated controller (or any script code directly defined or referenced by that document). It is not possible to "inject" script code into an include as you appear to be attempting to do here.
However, an include's controller is accessible to the including document. So if the controller for HeaderFields.fxml exposed a "loadOrdersButton" property via a getLoadOrdersButton() method, you could do something like this:
<fx:include fx:id="headerFields" source="HeaderFields.fxml"/>
<fx:script>
headerFieldsController.loadOrdersButton.setVisible(false);
</fx:script>Of course, another option is to simply include the script in the HeaderFields.fxml file itself:

<fx:script>
loadOrdersButton.setVisible(false);
</fx:script>But I'm assuming there's some reason you don't want to do that.

If an app does not behave as expected, try closing the app completely and reboot the iPad. It appears as though you have the original iPad. It helps if you list your iPad model and the iOS that you are running.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

The ipad won't sync some photos, saying the file can't be read by the ipad, however it will sync some photos taken at the same time which are the same size and file type. Why does it reject some and accept others?

Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
Any advice gratefully received!

A MacBook will use Time Machine to make local backups so that when connected to an external drive it will backup a lot faster.
to disable this, you must use a command under terminal.
to locate terminal, do a search for it under spotlight (the magnifying glass on the top right corner), should be the first hit.
once under terminal, type the following text exactly:
sudo tmutil disablelocal
hit enter.
you will be asked to input your password, if you do not have a password, you will have to create one before performing this command. after entering your password, hit enter again and close terminal.
in a few minutes the space taken up by time machine should be cleared.
