Run application or applet on any windows machine

OK, here is my question. If I write a application using swing, and then build the application into jars, can I take that app and run it on any computer, or does any computer I run it on need the jdk installed on it. The reason I am asking this, is a am writing some simple software using swing as a GUI. I want other user's to be able just to copy this app from a disk, set it on their computer and run it. Will this work, are will it work if I use applets. Please let me know.

what do you mean by make a webservice app or use webstart/jnlp

is it possible to run an application from an applet? is so how can i go about doing this?

hey may be the use of Runtime can help u solve ur
    prblm....
    Runtime.exec("Application name");luck,
jayNope. You should know some basic things before trying to give answers.
If (unsigned/untrusted) applets could just run any other app, imagine the chaos when someone hits a rogue website containing an applet that executes something like "format c:"
You want to run an external program on the client's machine from an applet? You can't, thank heavens. You need to rethink your design.

  • Unable to connect to a NAS running ext3 file format or any Windows Servers

I just purchased a new MacBook running 10.6.3. When first connecting to my NAS(last week), I had no issues connecting to my NAS server. I created an iSCSI drive for Time Machine, formatted for a MAC, no issues. In the last week something changed on my macbook that I can't connect to the NAS drive anymore. iSCSI is sill available. Also, I have an older MacBook(10.6.4) and MacPro (10.5.8) with issues connecting to my NAS drives.
What can i research on my new MacBook that is not allowing me to do this?
BTW, I am using QNAP 809 Pros NAS drive.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm following up on my question. Still looking for help.

  • How do I share Mac's folders with a Windows machine?

I have a Mac running OS 10.8.3 and a Windows machine running Windows 8.
I create an account that is sharing only, enable File sharing, add a shared folder, give everyone read and write access, enable SMB, select that user, and enter the password.
On the Windows machine, when I log in as an administrator, I see a list of all the volumes and all the shares, and everything works as expected. When I login as the user I just created above, I see a folder with the name of the user with nothing in it; the shared folders and volumes don't appear. Guest isn't even an option.
How do I setup file sharing of multiple shares for users other than administrators?

    Roddy;
I have been authoring my own website for years and I used Netscape Communicator and up loaded it with Fetch and I just kind a got into iWeb a little bit deeper than I had before a I like it except I can't get a movie to show on a Windows machine (at least my daughters) to save myself.  I make the movies with Keynote and QuickTime and make a movie .MOV out of them. When I look at them on my Mac they are great but any Windows machine and it shows a little puzzle picture and says it won't show it.  So my question is what percentage of people's computers can't look at my movies. I am a guitar teacher of 45 years and I'm trying to archive my findings over the years and movies are an absolute must slideshows and that sort of sound moving pictures documents PDFs all that I bought your iWeb for musicians thing and I've read a bunch of other some stuff I understand but others I just have no idea what you're talking about you say I'm supposed to have a media player folder in my root folder and there is no such thing. There is a folder called media and it does have my movies .MOV in it. How can I make a Windows machine show it? Everything you sent me and told me just confuses me more.

  • Using MacBook Pro as a Windows machine at 100% Windows office

    Hello everyone,
Sorry, it might be well discussed, but I cannot find a topic.
I use AutoCAD, Adobe Web premium, MS Office, etc. on a Dell workstation. I also use a Mac G4 (10.4) for FC pro and fonts (I have thousands). I only use Mac after work or when I need unique fonts to make outline (fonts) design file.
I'm thinking to consolidate them to a McBook Pro (latest). I probably use it as Windows machine (either Vista or XP) 95% during a day.
    My questions are:
    1) Is it practical (I will connect it 24” monitor)?
    2) Any problem to use it at the 100% Windows office (Exchange server, etc.).
    3) Is it powerful enough?
    Thank you for your help!!

I have been using Windows on my Mac for work since the release of Leopard.
It works better than any Windows machine that I have ever used. I have run current notebooks from ThinkPad and HP, and my Mac runs the best. I have found Windows to work exceptionally better on my Mac than on any PC machine. The main reason is that PC machines are bogged down with so much trial software, spy software, and pointless software from the manufacturer. On a Mac, it is nice and clean.
I would suggest setting it up with Boot Camp, which makes your computer a fully featured Windows machine.
The only thing that I had experienced had been when I had formatted the Windows hard drive as FAT 32. FAT 32 cannot handle file sizes of 3.5 GB or higher.
Therefore, the best way to format it is as NTSF, the new Windows standard.
To access your Mac hard drive from Windows, you would want to check out MacDrive 7, which is really good. http://www.mediafour.com
Under NTSF, you will be able to read your Windows drive from your Mac drive. However, if you want to write to it, you will need the following software from Paragon.
    http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
As for partition size, I would recommend the following.
    XP 32 GB
    Vista 40 GB (minimum)

  • Applescript Studio Beginner - Run a script and display a window

    Hi,
I am new to applescript studio ; I found out how to make an application displaying a window with a progress bar.
How can I start running a script without displaying any window, and at some time in the script, run the "awake from nib" handler that will call the display of the progress bar ?
    Thanks,
    Nicolas

    Nicolas Silvestre wrote:

The "awake from nib" handler is called automatically when your nib file gets loaded, you don't call it yourself. I suppose you could go thru the pain of putting your window into a separate nib file and then have your script load the nib file when you're ready... but that's not the easiest way to do it and you probably don't need to do this for your situation.
All you really need to do is go into Interface Builder, select your window object and uncheck the checkbox in the "Window Attributes" pane that says "Visible At Launch". The "awake from nib" will still be called at it's normal time and your window will be loaded but it will not be displayed.
Then you can do whatever other scripting you need to do... and when you're ready to display your window you simply call:
    show window "yourWindowsAppleScriptName"
You can do your initial scripting at the beginning of "awake from nib" and then call "show window" at the tail end of "awake from nib" if that works for you. But you don't have to have the "show window" call in your "awake from nib"... you can call it later on in some other handler if you need to.

  • Epson printer issues on Windows machines through Mac Mini Leopard

Trying to print on an Epson CX7800 printer attached via USB to new Mac Mini. Works PERFECTLY when printing natively on the Mac....BUT, after using Bonjour to access on any Windows machine, it installs a "generic PS" driver. It then takes FOREVER to print. Turns out the driver installed on each Windows machine is an HP LASERJET driver. And each time I try to install an actual Epson driver on the Windows machines, NO PRINTING occurs. Anyone know what the deal is? Why is Bonjour loading an HP LASERJET driver for an Epson inkjet? And even though it will print, it is TOO SLOW, making it practically unusable. Thanks....

The problem of the machines connecting seems to have solved itself today - with one small tweak to the setup.
I inserted an underscore (_) instead of spaces into the Mac Server name, and although the Windows 7 machines still can't see the server they can now connect using SMB.
I can't believe something so small kept me so flummoxed for so long....

  • Problem accessing shared folders with SMB from a Windows machine

When I reboot my Macmini, I cant access the shared folders from any Windows machine. On the Windows machine, I'm being prompted for my password, but event re-entering my password does help to get access.
The workaround I found is to go to the MacOSX System Preferences, Sharing, File Sharing, Options, and to uncheck and re-check the checkbox Share file and folders using SMB (Windows). Then I can access again the shared forders from a Windows machine and I'm not re-prompted for my password.
This is quite trooblesome to do that everytime I reboot my Mac. Is anybody experiencing the same pb? Any idea to fix it?
Also, since Lion, I'm experiencing some connection interruption, especially when copying big files from my Mac to a Windows machine.

Yes that is basically the only workaround for this problem. By chance do you have a SSD installed in the Mini?
I had this problem on my MBP when I had a SSD installed. Problem goes away with the original drive or a Seagate XT series drive.
If you don't have a SSD installed the only other option is to Wipe the drive and reinstall and test (Make a TM backup first so you can restore if the problem continues with the clean Re-Install).

No, not all network clients -- only the two mac portables and they run together very rarely. The windows machine is hardwired to the modem router combo, and that's always sailing smooth. The mbp that is most used is perhaps 20 feet max from the router - and in another room. But it also happens when I take in into the same room as the router. On occassion, I have noticed while using network diagnostics, that one digit in the IP number sometimes appears to go awry. I then try to set up manually - and it works for a bit but is hugely erratic.
I rigged a hand me down airport express and set up a separate network for the two macs and it ran beautifully for some weeks, but that little piece is now dead and none of the retailers in my suburb seem to have one in stock. I don't want to be forced to buy an airport extreme and here in India, there's no trustworthy online ordering option.
The man from the ISP's been here several times and I don;t think it is a modem/dsl issue because the smartphone connects and the macbook drops when both are the same distance from the router? I am truly foxed and intensely irritated! :-(

  • In DCOMCnfg "Run application on this computer" is grayed out for my application on two Windows 7 machines, but it works fine on all other machines

We have a COM application that is installed on hundreds of machines around the country.  We have instructions included in our install doc of how to set up DCOMCnfg.  On one machine in the field and one machine in our lab (both happen to be Windows 7 machines) the checkbox "Run application on this computer" on the location tab in DCOMCnfg is grayed out and therefore we cannot access our engine remotely.
I turned off UAC before installing  (we found that the install works much better than way)  and it is actually still off.  I do not get any DCOM errors in the Windows Event logs when I try to access via DCOM, I just get the standard -2147023174 Server Error.  I have added CallFailureLoggingLevel to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OLE and set it to 1 to enable logging, but still no errors in the event logs.
I pulled a DCOMTest utility off of the Microsoft site.  Initially it failed, but there were entries in the event logs indicating that it did not have the permissions it needed.  I opened up those permissions and now that test utility works fine.  So, DCOM is functioning between the two computers.
This application is used with DCOM by hundreds of people, so I know the application should be working properly.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled to verify that everything is registered properly.  I have tried turning off the firewall and the anti-virus.  I am logged in as an administrator
I am at a loss.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
This issue can occur if the current user profile does not have enough permission or related system file is corrupted. Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. Assure the current user account has administrator permission. If not, please add it to Administrators Group and then test the issue again.
    2. Restart the machine in Safe Mode and logon to the machine with the account: administrator. Then, please check whether the option is grayed out.
    3. If the option is still grayed out, please try this step.
    a. Open C:\Windows\System32 folder and change the ownership of the ComUID.dll file from "trusted installer" to administrators group.
    b. Rename that file as ComUID.dll.org
    c. Copy the attached ComUID.dl_ file from the Windows 7 installation disk to C:\Windows\System32 folder and rename it to ComUID.dll
    Thanks,
    Novak

  • Problems running regressions and applications from a windows machine

I have successfully synthesized an opensparc design on a virtex-5 using xps on a windows machine. however, I cannot run the regressions and I cannot build applications. I have been following the steps provided in the DV guide. The error I keep getting is sims command not found in the xps terminal. Are there any config files or scripts I have to set up and/or run?
Your help is appreciated. Thank you all.

You have to install the simulation tool to your window machine. I think it could be very hard to make it work as you have to write new scripts to sim the design.

  • Crashes when running applications from network share - "Windows cannot access the file for one of the following reasons"

    Hi,
starting a couple of weeks ago, we get the following error(s) when running applications from a network share. We don't know what causes this, we are not aware of any major changes in our network infrastructure or client/Server configuration. We did upgrade
a lot of machines to Windows 8, but the issue also occurs on older Win7 computers.
We figured out a workaround though: The applications run fine when launching from a FQDN share (like
\\share.domain.Company.com) and only cause problems when running from
\\share directly. They have worked fine for years without FQDN though.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    >>The applications run fine when launching from a FQDN share
It sounds like a DNS suffix issue. When this issue occurs, please try to ping share on the client, then check if the corresponding IP address is correct. If the IP address is wrong, please adjust your settings of DNS to make sure that the client can resolve
    the share correctly.
If it's very hard to change the settings of the DNS for some reason, as a work around, we can add the entry into the clients' hosts file.

  • Is there any way to make a Mac identify as a Windows machine on a local network?

I work for a municipal government organization. Occasionally, I am blocked by the network spam/firewall software (Barracuda) from accessing websites from my Mac, but NOT blocked from them if I go from a Windows machine -- even if it's a Windows VM running on the Mac! The reason given is usually because the sites are identified as "shopping".)
My suspicion is that, since AFAIK I am on the only Mac on the city's network that is NOT in one of the school department's computer labs, that there is a setting on the server side that is set to assume that any Mac is a classroom machine and that the user is a minor. (***PLEASE NOTE*** Before anyone says anything, he sites in question tend to be free font or free graphics sites and ARE actually work-related, since I have no budget for fonts or stock photos... Keep it clean, you! <gr>)
I know that there are ways to spoof a browser, say, on the web, but is there any way to do this directly on a local network? More to the point, if it IS possible, is there a way for ME to do it from my end rather than putting in a request to the MIS **** Desk to do something at THEIR end?

Try this, UneasySilence.com has a guide on how to use SheepShaver to run Mac OS 9 on an Intel Mac.
    http://www.gibix.net/dokuwiki/en:projects:sheepshaver
"Who said you can't use MacOS 9 because you have an Intel Mac? It is completely possible with a little bit of tinkering, and a really cool universal application called Sheep Shaver, which came to us via a tip from Kazaki. Sheep Shaver is a full speed 'Classic' emulator for Windows, Linux, and Intel based Macs, that runs older MacOS's at shockingly full speed!"

I would like to share my ipad on my Windows machine. I got the Ipad to HDMI adaptor but nothing is displayed on the screen... Do I need any additional softwares?
Actually I would like to have the Ipad connected to pc and then run an application on the ipad (which is shown on my windows machine) and record it on the windows machine... Is this feasible?

If you have an HDMI connection on your computer, it is most likely an output, it won't recieve a signal unless it's on a video capture card. Recording to the PC could be a difficlut task. HDMI is encrypted to keep you from copying but there are ways to do it. It would also depend on what content you intended on recording. If it's movies you have purchased or rented, it would be illegal.
