Run development environment as a service on windows

I have a function written in LabVIEW that requires code that only runs in the development environment (no RTE).  (Labview 2010)
The function will be called via system command from another program, and arguments will be passed on the command line.  Simultaneous calls may be made, so I cannot count on launching the Dev environment and inspecting the command line.  There is no GUI for the code.
I have devised a plan to create a LV EXE that will be called by the third party app via a command line with arguments.  The EXE will then call the Dev environment via VI server (I still need to figure out if it will be done with re-entrant calls or a queue, but that's not my big worry).
So the Dev environment has to be up and running to wait for "requests".  I would like for it not to be in the foreground, as this machine is used for other purposes.
Can the Dev environment run "hidden" or as a service with no GUI?  Could it be run under another account, in a virtual shell?

What code runs only in the development environment ? ( Take good look at the name )

  • 11g Reports Development Environment, Run Web Layout Error

    Hi,
    I'm using
    Operation System: Windows 7 32 bit
    Jdk: jdk1.7.0_07
    Weblogic Server: 10.3.6
    Forms and Reports: 11.1.2 Development Environment.
    When I'm trying to run report in web layout, it gives error
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
    Javax/servlet/jsp/tagext/TagLibraryInfo
    Kindly help me to resolve this error
    Thanks

    Hello,
    First, JDK 1.7 is not certified with Forms 11gR2. Only JDK 1.6 familly is certified and supported.
    It seems to be an environment/installation issue as this installation works fine.
    - Are you installing as Admin user and running Builder as the with the same OS user?
    - Let me know the WLS 10.3.6 complete zip file name you installed and the command you used to install it. Also the 11.1.2 file names for review
    As a workaround:
    You can open rwrun.jar in Jdeveloper and check the classpath in the manifest.
    I remembered i had an issue on this(11.1.1.3 version) when rwrun.jar called a jar file javax.jsp_1.1.0.0_2-1.jar that did not exist in the installaton(There was a newer version like javax.jsp_1.2.0.0_2-1.jar in the installation).
    Normally should not be happening in 11gR2, but give it a try.
    Regards,
    Alex

  • VI runs okay in develop environment, will not load dll as executable

    This VI calls a .NET dll for testing a circuit board. It runs fine in LabVIEW develop environment, without problem building executable. But the executable couldn't open the dll. The dll is surely included with the executable, but opening process still looks for this dll. If I point to this dll, then popup window shows it cannot be loaded. The .NET is 4.0. I can upload some detailed information tomorrow. Any one experienced this kind of problem?

      lication and the executable can find it, but it doesn't like it so it keeps on looking somewhere else.

  • How do I determine if a VI is running in the runtime engine or LabView Development Environment?

    Is there a function or VI that I can call that will tell me if the program is running in the LabVIEW Runtime Engine or if it is running in the LabVIEW developement Environment?  I am using LabView 8.5.
    I have a menu item, File/Exit,  and I would like to call the Exit LabVIEW vi if running in the runtime engine when that item is selected.  However, in development, I don't want to shut down LabVIEW when I select that menu item.
    Maybe there is a more appropriate way to exit the program.  However, I am looking for something elegant.  I'm sure I could find some other way to accomplish the same thing, but I'm looking for a clean way to do it.
    Thanks

    Here is a small VI with this exact function.

  • Desktop Window Manager Service on Windows 7 Starter - Any Reason to Leave It Running?

    Hello everyone,
    -As per title, I'd like to know whether is it better to turn off Desktop Window Manager Session Manager (UxSms) service on Windows 7 Starter - or not. I mean changing the service's default startup type from Automatic to Manual (or Disabled).
    -In Windows 7 Starter, the Aero theme and desktop composition are not available at all (not even a basic/partial one), so letting Desktop Window Manager (DWM.exe) to continuously run is useless as it does absolutely nothing. Is my deduction correct?
    -All opinions and suggestions are welcomed, thank you very much.
    Regards,
    -Musafir_86.

    Please read the information posted @
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa969540%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
    Desktop Window Manager
    The desktop composition feature, introduced in Windows Vista, fundamentally changed the way applications display pixels on the screen.  When desktop composition is enabled, individual windows no longer draw directly to the screen or primary display
    device as they did in previous versions of Windows. Instead, their drawing is redirected to off-screen surfaces in video memory, which are then rendered into a desktop image and presented on the display.
    Desktop composition is performed by the Desktop Window Manager (DWM).  Through desktop composition, DWM enables visual effects on the desktop
    as well as various features such as glass window frames, 3-D window transition animations, Windows Flip and Windows Flip3D, and high resolution support.
    The Desktop Window Manager runs as a Windows service. It can be enabled and disabled through the Administrative Tools Control Panel item, under Services, as Desktop Window Manager Session Manager.
    Many of the DWM features can be controlled or accessed by an application through the DWM APIs.  The following documentation describes the features and requirements of the DWM APIs.

  • Windows 10 Enterprise Edition: Installation and Development Environment Essentials: Thoughts & Assistance Req:

    Hello,
    I am in the architecture planning stage of my project and seeking personal and general good advice from Mircosoft engineers.  I am laying the foundation stones of a new development product using at least three more new technologies that are
    as new as Windows 10. Their are also around four or five technology partners with the latest version of their software that I wish to take onboard. Due to the sensitive nature of the project it is not wise for me to state each piece of technology used,
    so I will be as accurate as possible using the limited means I have.
    I wish to make a "closed" development environment, with the latest build (currently 9860), install the new software. Some of which installs fine, some of which is not compatabile with Windows 10. Regarding the latter I am in discussions with the
    technology providers to make a work-around and hammer and chisel through every issue. Very soon I hope to have a fully stable working development environment which paves the road to a first prototype. So i need to make a decision soon to "lock
    down" everything. I will miss Windows 10 updates but the advantage is when the project vertical slice is complete, the feedback and benefit will be larger for Windows 10 final product.
    This is probably my fifth or sixth early evaluation of the Windows platform and I am aware of the highs and lows of working with various versions using new builds, from the stability of win98 (becoming 2000 - minus millennium 1999 edition), to the quick uninstall
    of vista (it broke our internal projects). The solid bedrock of Windows NT (becoming XP) and so on. The good news is Windows 10 seems very good indeed.
    My questions are two:
    1) Would the windows team recommend a closed environment development in my situation, and are they aware of other developers doing it (is it wise from your end)? Is their a pool, can we communicate directly?
    or
    2) Would you recommend an open environment instead? Every install is updated, everything is all on-line and networked, this may lead to more breakages and sacrifice the finished product.
    The problem with approach number 2 is that a particular technology  may work with this build, but not the next one and vice versa. I will constantly be playing "bunny hop" trying to make it work.
    The problem with using number 1 is that you can have a "false dawn" view of the project, meaning you have managed to get it stable and develop code that fits that environment and build, but as soon as you do update six months later, it breaks due
    to feature change, it means massive re-work, ultimately breaking the product again.
    I have seen these approaches drown larger projects and wash away whole development teams.
    Its a tough one and a part of my R&D but very soon I need to make a decision.
    To explain more, some of the technology used will be:
    Windows 10 Enterprise - Perforce - Office 365 with Exchange Activ Synch - Any associated Intel CPU and GPU monitors.
    In other words very stable and solid technology. Their is about an equal number of other techs that are not so stable but I am slowly getting to work under Windows 10.All feedback would be given to Microsoft, regardless of environment 1 or 2.
    Any advice and help from the Microsoft Team is greatly appreciated.
    Yours Kindly,
    Asad

    I recently went to an Enterprise Mobility Summit Microsoft was holding at one of their facilities, and they spoke a bit about the future of Windows 10 - and here's what I left with: Microsoft isn't really sure themselves what kind of updating scheme they're
    going to be doing with Windows 10.  They had some ideas, but they're looking for feedback from enterprises and engineers about their plan.
    I don't think it was under an NDA, so I should have no problem discussing it:  their idea was to have different tracks (based on the user) with different upgrade schedules based on what the administrator deems appropriate for that user.  For instance,
    a consumer would have their OS automatically updated as soon as the update was available. while enterprises could stagger their users to a more manageable 3-month or 6-month schedule.  Microsoft wasn't sure how long to make this stagger schedule - talk
    of a 1 year stagger were floated, but nothing concrete.  Critical devices, like POS or ATMs, could be setup so they would never be upgraded, or only upgraded when the administrator specifically allows them to be upgraded.
    For you personally, it sounds like a closed development environment is better, since you're testing critical business applications.  Again, one never knows exactly what direction Microsoft will take, but with the amount of conversations and...
    warnings that dropped by various people at this meeting, it's pretty safe to say that they'll be some sort of timed release schedule for enterprises that you can prepare for.
    Hope that helps!

  • Running OC4J as a service in Windows 2000

    I've been trying to have OC4J run as a service in Windows 2000, as having to be logged in isn't very flexible.
    I've searched the net, and I found a tool by Microsoft called srvany.exe/instsrv.exe, which should install any program as a service. It works, but the service shuts down whenever I log off, which defeats the purpose.
    What I've done is run the command line
    instsrv "Oracle Application Server" C:\Progs\Service\srvany.exe
    and then edit the registry settings under the newly created folder to
    Application=C:\Progs\Oracle 9i AS\j2ee\home\java
    AppParameters=-jar oc4j.jar
    AppDirectory=C:\Progs\Oracle 9i AS\j2ee\home
    Does anyone know this tool well enough to tell me what I'm doing wrong, or know something else I can use?
    Brigt Olav Vik

    Hi
    Have managed to run oc4j as a service as follows under xp pro
    Download runexescv from http://www.judoscript.com/goodies/index.html
    Unpack and run
    Create service say OracleOc4j
    Needs basic parameters setup
    Cmdline and Home
    My setup is
    debug=false
    cmdline=c:\ora9ias\jdk\bin\java - Dorg.omg.CORBA. ORBClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBSingletonClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB -Doracle.security.jazn.config=c:\ora9ias\j2ee\Oracle9iDS\config\jazn.xml -Doracle.home=c:\ora9ias -DORACLE_HOME=c:\ora9ias -jar c:\ora9ias\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar -userThreads -config c:\ora9ias\j2ee\Oracle9iDS\config\server.xml
    ( all from startinst.bat )
    home=C:\ora9ias\j2ee\home\
    Save and close
    Oracleoc4j will now be set up as service
    Change service to auto and start service !!
    Appears to be neat and easy way of setting up an OC4J service

  • Running Essbase 6.1 as a service on Windows 2000

    OK, what's the scoop about running Essbase 6.1 as a service on Windows 2000?Besides not seeing the graphic interface, are there any issues? Are there any issues with shutting down the Essbase server by either clicking "Stop" in the Services panel or issuing a Net Stop service command?Finally, has anyone successfully used Microsoft's "Srvany" utility to run Essbase as a service yet still display the graphic windows?Do most of y'all on NT or 2000 run as a service or as an app?

    Just a little extra information about running Essbase as a Service. We are running on NT 4.0. If one application is causing a problem, you can kill the one application without having to reboot the server. You will need to know which application is causing your problem and You will need to know it's "process id". If you can't find the right process id by looking at "tlist", you can look in the ESSBASE.LOG. Start at the bottom of the log and search backwards for the text "started with process id". When you find the process id of the problem application, you can then kill it at the DOS prompt by typing "kill ###", where ### is the process id.This is helpful for us because we have about 10 applications on one server and we don't want to have to take all of Essbase down just for one application. Hope this is helpful to someone.

  • Executable not running properly even when running perfectly in development environment

    Hello there
    My application runs fine when running in development environment but as soon as I create build specification and run it, it takes time before reading signals and doesn't shut properly. I wonder if there is some settings I need to do in vi properties or in build specification?
    Would appreciate comments
    Kind Regards
    Austin

    Hi Austin,
    I'm Oli from NIUK.  I have a few questions that would help me to work out what the cause of the problem might be.
    What type of build specification are you creating?
    Did you receive any errors or warnings when building?
    Are you running the built file on the development machine or another?
    Would it be possible to send your project and files to me so that I can try to build it.  It could be an issue with your specific PC.

  • Development Environment for Server APIs in Webcenter Interaction 10.3

    Hi, I installed “Oracle Web Center Interaction 10.3" on standard environment mentioned by oracle (Window 2003 server, IIS6.0, SQL Server 2005). Everything works fine concerning the portal and services.
    I also have visual studio 2005 on the same machine and trying to setup a development environment where I can user server APIs (I start with creating IPTSession).
    I am using follwong code to start with:
    /String serverConfigDir = ConfigPathResolver.GetOpenConfigPath();
    IOKContext configContext = OKConfigFactory.createInstance(serverConfigDir, "portal");
    PortalObjectsFactory.Init(configContext);
    IPTSession ptSession = PortalObjectsFactory.CreateSession();
    Problem: code compiles if I add few dlls, but it do not run, it throws following error
    com.plumtree.openkernel.exceptions.OKFactoryException: Error in AOKFactory.createAndInitializeInstance, unable to create object with name 'com.plumtree.openkernel.impl.config.Config' in assembly or JAR file 'openconfig'.
    I think either server APIs are not more supported in 10.3 or I do not know how to setup the development environment for server APIs.
    Can anyone help??

    i have already tried putting hardcoded path but it didn't help, morover the previous line gives me correct path.
    I issue i mentioned seems to be related with some setting or missing native dlls
