Run executable at end of installation. Admin privileges?
Hi all,
As always, please forgive this questioning if it has already been answered somewhere.
Here is my scenario:
I have a batch file with the following in it:
cd C:\Temp\install\anotherInstaller
setup.exe /q /AcceptLicenses yes
"anotherInstaller" is an installer for a different LabVIEW application that I am including with the main one.
I run the batch file from the "Advanced" page of my installer under "Run executable at end of installation."
I run my top level installer with admin privileges in Windows 7 x64.
The installer hums along and everything works as expected until the batch file gets called.
The batch file gets called successfully by my top level installer, but "anotherInstaller" doesn't run.
The batch script works fine if I run it by itself with elevated privileges, but doesn't run anotherInstaller if it is called by my top level installer.
My theory is that the executable called under "Run executable at end of installation" does not execute with elevated privileges, even if the top level installer does.
Can anyone verify this?
Is there any other reason why my second installer won't work?
Thanks in advance,
Jim
Okay, it does appear to execute with elevated privileges, and I have a new clue:
When I turn off the "/q" option on anotherInstaller, the following message appears in a dialog:
"Error: Another Installation/uninstallation session, deployment session, or NI Update Service is running. Finish that session and try again."
Ugh. Anyone know of a good way to "piggyback" another LabVIEW built installer as part of a batch file? (I have a whole ton of other housekeeping I handle in my batch file, so I can't very well avoid using the batch file.)

Run executable before installation
Hello all,
I need small information. Please help me.
In LabVIEW Installer Window at Advanced settings, we have
Run executable at end of installation
Run executable before uninstallation
Is there is any option for “Run executable before installation”?
I want to run one LabVIEW exe before installing new software (if Runtime engine is exits in deployment PC).
Please let me know if anyone have idea. The NI installers don't give you a lot of control of how things are done. Let say you want to allow you users to have a minimum, complete, or custom install of tools. The NI installers don't have that option.
In the past when I need more control of how installers run, and their options, I've used a couple of free tools that I've mentioned in the past. Inno Setup, and the helper program ISTool.
Using this method I can make an installer, that runs a different installer first, then runs the NI installer. -
Installer requires Admin Privilege to run
I'm a new user on a Macbook. Its been about 20 years since I last was on an apple. I need help, I'm trying ton install a game on my laptop. When I click on the installer to install the game a window pops up saying "installer requires Admin privilege to run" and the only option is to quit. What do I need to do to get this game installed?
Thanks so much!!/Applications/Utilities/Disc Utility - a very handy tool in all sorts of situations.
I'm most surprised that a new account with admin permissions wasn't able to perform the install I'm at a loss what might be causing that to be honest ... maybe the repair permissions on the drive will sort it out, perhaps the entire folder has had write access removed somehow. You could select the destination folder location and Get Info on it and look at the permissions settings at the bottom, does it allow any user to Write there or is it Read only I wonder ? -
This installer requres admin privileges to run
i'm trying to install pcsx2.
i need Cg-2.2.0006 but when i open it, I get a window that tells me this installer requires admin privileges to run
what should i do?Hi, are you running in an admin account?
If you aren't the admin, you'll still need the admin's credentials. -
This installer requires admin privileges to run
I'm trying to install a new Application (ViaCAD 2D/3D). I get the message "This installer requires admin privileges to run" with no option to enter admin password.
Thing is, I am clearly the Admin user with all privs.
Searched a lot of forums and tried a lot of ideas... but to no avail. Prior installations proceeded without error. Of course, the manufacturer support simply blamed Apple and closed the support question. Console log shows no errors.
This one has me totally stumped (and I have 20+ years admin experience).Update:
The application installed on another system running 10.4. On the offending system, I tried another Admin account, ran repair permissions from Utilities, made sure Admin had R/W privs on Apps folder, moving the .dmg file to the Applications folder, did a reboot, searched for a VidCad plist file. Out of ideas. -
I'm attempting to reinstall ITunes because of a runtime error (R6034) when I start it. At end of install it says 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. I verified that I have admin privileges. Can anyone help?
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Running Palm Desktop without Admin Privileges?
I'm trying to get Palm Desktop 6.2 working on my company's Win 7 laptop. To get it to (mostly) work, I had to install using the administrator password. In its wisdom, the company does not give me permanent admin privileges but provides a temporary checkout mechanism for the administrator password. Palm Desktop will only run only if I run it as administrator with the password enabled and checked out (and entered when the program is run), an incredibly tedious procedure just to run Palm Desktop. Is there any way to do the password checkout just once and enable running Palm Desktop just as a user to avoid this tedious procedure? Otherwise, running as a user, Palm Desktop will just hang at the splash screen. I tried changing privileges (UAC) to all the program files in the Programs (x86)\Palm folder to allow access to users but that didn't help. Is it to the data as well? Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. I posted earlier with the missing files problem listed in the registry (Annanotifier.dll, pdn20.dll, AlarmNotify.dll, EASNotify.dll) and these still post a HotSync missing files error but seem to cause no problem other than the error message. Thanks for any help here as well.I'm afraid I have no personal experience with what you're attempting to do...
All I can remember is that Full Admin rights were supposed to be granted to the user account during the entire installation of Palm Desktop, and a successful HotSync performed. Whether the check-out routine is doing this is beyond me.
Once the above is complete, the rights can be revoked back to "User".
You might want to search over at Brighthand.com for some information on this subject.

How can I perform a silent install of an application AND use "run executable after installation"
I am trying to do a silent install of a program I built using LabVIEW 8.5. I also need to call an exe after the installation, so I am using the "run executable after installation" option on the Advanced tab of the installer. I then pass the following command lines to the setup.exe:
/qb /acceptlicenses yes /r
This installs the LabVIEW program successfully, but does not then run the additional exe afterward. If I run the setup.exe normally (with no command line parameters), the additional exe gets run.
Thanks,

Add-On installation showing admin privileges error
Hi all,
Scenario for SAP 9.0 PL 07 :-
I have logged in using Windows Standard user profile.
The SAP folder in " C:\Program Files\SAP " has been given full Admin privileges.
But still not able to install the Add-Ons. Giving error of no rights/permission .
Can you please help me locate some other folder which need to be given Admin privileges so that the Add-Ons will install.
Regards,
Angad@ Pvsb prasad k,
Thanks for the reply.
We have tried giving full rights(full control) to the user for the SAP folder in " C:\Program Files\SAP ".
But still the Add-On installation problem exists.
Is there any other folder of SAP which requires the full control permission to be given?
Please suggest.

How to run executable after installation?
Hi everyone,
I created an installer from one labview program with the application builder
of Labview7.1 for my customer, and this installer will be burned
on a CD. There are several configuration files which should be always
modified, so I want to give the customer a possibility that he can
change them by himself without creation of a new installer , I think the
"run executable after installation" is the way to do it, but I don't know
how to implement such an executable command to copy some files from CD to
the destination directory which the program should be installed, could
anyone give me some tips? Thans a lot!
LeWhen you setup your build file, add the files using SourceFile Tab>>add support files, then click on custom destination, here you can add support files during installation. Hope this is what you are looking for.

How to run Adobe InDesign CC without needing Domain Admin privileges?
Adobe InDesign CC needed Admin privileges to install which is fine but it seems to need the same just to start-up and run the program.
I've given the user Local Admin but that didn't fix it. I don't want to have to 'Run as Administrator' every time they want to use the software, does anyone have any ideas for sorting this?Without proper system info and other details nobody can even begin to guess. Chances are that your network configuration is to blame and due to using specific ports that are also used by the activation system they are somehow tied together. Well, whatever. This is most definitely nothing that can be solved from within the Adobe programs themselves. Run a network monitor, find out what's wrong and fix it accordingly.

Whenever I try to compile any code the following messagem appears: "greeing to the Xcode/iOS license requires admin privileges, please re-run as root via sudo."
I'm using CodeBlocks v. 13.12. Its file (codeblocks-2.app) is inside the App folder.I suggest you ask whomever makes CodeBlocks.
They would be the most knowledgeable. -

Flash Player update Installation w/o local admin privileges
Hi guys!
I'm a trainee at a small "electrical retailer".
We set up an Active Directory with a Windows 2011 Essentials last week.
There are several Win XP and 7 Clients. Users have no administrative rights, but they can install Windows Updates (group policy).
And here comes the problem: each time adobe flash player wants to download and install an update you have to promote with an administrator account.
Is there a possibility to grant special rights to the adobe installer? Is there an opportunity to integrate flash player updates into the group policy oder WSUS?
Thanks a lot!Just an update to Pat's post. A full install, such as 11.2 will actually require admin privileges. However, subsequent updates using the new silent auto update mechanism will work fine on a standard user account without admin intervention.
