Run java without the terminal

I am working on an application(a gui of course), and I would like to be able to run it without a terminal in the background? Is this even possible? I know about executable jar files, but a majority of the time, the OS won't know what to do with it.
For the time being, I made a very simple C program which calls the java command, but it opens a termial anyways.
Please advise (ooohhh, what a fancy way to ask for help. Advise makes it sound cool XD)

And either way, this still opens a terminal :(Not on any of the systems where I've used it.
It sounds like you and/or some crap applications you've installed have messed up your environment.
Can't you remap whatever KDE uses to handle various filetypes?

    HI All,
    I have a form that has a pll attached to it, the problem is that i've to put the pll with the form, if i put the plx only the form doesn't open. How can i solve this problem as i can't put the pll at the customer side. I'm using oracle forms 6.0.8.11.3 and i didn't have this problem before

    did you pick up the pll via the file dialog? As if you have done this, you are prompted if forms builder should remove the absolute path, but attaches the library with the .pll ending. so if you have a plx the form won't run as it requires the pll version.
    so reattach your library just with the library name and without the file ending...

  • How to run VI without the DAQ card connected to the labtop

    This may be a silly question but I want to have the answer and couldn't find the answer for spending time in searching in the web.
    I want to run the VI that controls the intruments in my labtop. The VI was run in a destop that has a DAQ card in the PC (a PCI card).  I know it is possible to run it without errors (without a DAQ card) in my labtop . Anyone knows how to do it? I used labview 7.1. Thanks,

    If you are using DAQmx and if the DAQ card is supported, you can add a simulated device in MAX.

  • Running system without the whole 9iAS

    Hi,
    It is possible to "export" the whole system (my running application) after the development to another application server.
    or to a Apache/Tomcat ?
    Thanks
    Michael

    Thaks,
    1. we are working with 9iAS v2, which was just released.
    2. Yes I mean the portal system. I can use all the portlets like they are?
    Where are they stored? Is there a paper somewhere where they describe how to set this up?
    Thanks,
    Michael
    Hi,
    I assume two things from your questions -
    1.you have development install on iasv1 (1.0.2.1 or 1.0.2.2).
    2. By "whole system", you mean portal system.
    Portal works with Apache/Jserv combination only. However, if you are using web providers, web-providers can be deployed on Tomcat also.

  • Already bought quicktime pro but still running without the pro options

    Hello.
    I have already bought quicktime pro but after I had to reinstall it is running again without the pro options. I logged into apple.com and there is nowhere where I can find my actualisation or key code which I have paid for to make it run as pro.
    Does anyone know where to find it or how to fix this problem so it runs as pro again without having to pay for it again?
    Thank you for your help,
    kind regards

    If you've lost the email Apple sent you containing the Pro key, log into your account in the Apple Store and click on the Downloadable Software Purchases link. You should find the key shown there.

  • Running without the battery. Bad for the Macbook?

    I want to preserve the integrity of my battery, so I am runing my MBP without it in. I just have it plugged into the wall. I'm wondering, is it bad to run it without the battery? Like, are there any huge malfunctions that could happen?
    I dont want to constantly run it with the battery, when I have a wall outlet. My brother did that with his powerbook, and ater a year, his battery life sucked.

    All batteries lose their ability to recharge to its full factory capacity, Li-ion or not. This is the very nature of rechargeable batteries. Since li-ions don't have a memory footprint, it doesn't matter what you store them at.
    You bro read this:
    A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of charge/discharge cycles. This drawback is not widely publicized.
    At a 100% charge level, a typical Li-ion laptop battery that is full most of the time at 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit, will irreversibly lose approximately 20% capacity per year. However a battery stored inside a poorly ventilated laptop, may be subject to a prolonged exposure to much higher temperatures than 25 °C, which will significantly shorten its life. The capacity loss begins from the time the battery was manufactured, and occurs even when the battery is unused. Different storage temperatures produce different loss results: 6% loss at 0 °C/32 °F, 20% at 25 °C/77 °F, and 35% at 40 °C/104 °F. When stored at 40% charge level, these figures are reduced to 2%, 4%, 15% at 0, 25 and 40 degrees Celsius respectively
    The problem is he didn't quite understand it or remember it. Storing the battery at 40% doesn't reduce the 10-20% loss. What the excerpt talks about is temperature of the environment the battery rests in. It is an interaction effect.
    If the battery is at 100% charge, and stored at 40 °C/104 °F, then a 35% reduction will occur. If it is stored at 40% capacity, then a 20% reduction will occur. If it is stored at 100% charge at 0 °C/32 °F a 6% reduction will occur, when if the battery is dropped to 40%, only a 4% reduction will occur.
    You bro is wrong in thinking you can stop Li-ion batteries from losing their charge. This happens from the point of manufacturing.

  • Running java command from DOS prompt

    Hi,
    When I run java from the DOS prompt (NT) in any other location than the JDK bin directory, I get the following error:
    Error opening registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment'
    My understanding is to be able to run this from anywhere you need to add the tools.jar file to the CLASSPATH, which I have done.
    There is no entry in the Registry for Software\JavaSoft...etc, has anyone any idea what my problem is and how I can solve it?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    I am running Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition Version 1.2.2 running on NT. It was installed as part of Oracles JDeveloper IDE and is running on NT.
    All I want to be able to do is run java from the command line e.g. 'java myclass', to run a standalone Java program. I can run 'javac myclass.java' to compile the program without any problems, but my understanding is that to do this all I need is to have the '.../java1.2/bin' directory included in the 'PATH' variable, whereas to run the java runtime you need to include the tools.jar in the CLASSPATH variable.
    As I said previously I can run the 'java myclass' command from the '../java1.2/bin' directory, just not from anywhere else. As for whats in the code, does not matter you should be able to type just java on the command line and it will come back with an error prompting for the class name. Here is an example of what happens:
    I:\>java
    Error opening registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment'
    However if I change to the correct directory, I get:
    D:\oracle\JDev32\java1.2\bin>java
    Usage: java [-options] class [args...]
    (to execute a class)
    or java -jar [-options] jarfile [args...]
    (to execute a jar file)
    where options include:
    -cp -classpath <directories and zip/jar files separated by ;>
    set search path for application classes and resources
    -D<name>=<value>
    set a system property
    -verbose[:class|gc|jni]
    enable verbose output
    -version print product version
    -? -help print this help message
    -X print help on non-standard options
    The contents of my PATH and CLASSPATH variable are shown below, Thanks again.
    I:\>PATH
    PATH=D:\oracle\BIN;D:\oracle\Apache\Perl\5.00503\bin\mswin32-x86;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\b

  • Run applets without JRE

    Hello to all developers,
    I know that to run applets in IE we should have the JRE installed on our machines. But is there any way that we can run applets without the JRE being installed on our machines. I have also heard of something called as the Microsoft JVM. How can we use it to run the java applets.
    Thanking in advance.

    The Microsoft JVM is extremely outdated and not recommended at all. You can't really run a Java applet without a JVM, and I'm not sure if any but the one Sun makes comes with a browser plugin.

  • ..running java in linux!!!

    hai java-landers,
    i actually want to see java running in "linux" system...
    the procedure, they've given in linux manual is very lenghthy
    and tedious....
    could any of u give me a good procedure for that....
    (actually i don't know where my message should go to which category...
    so, i pasted here...
    hope..u won't fire me next time!!!!)

    Download the linux self-extracting file (not RPM).
    If you are going to install as root, then log in as root now. You will need to be root if you want to install in any directory outside of your home directory -- such as a system directory (/usr/local in the example below).
    Move to the directory where you wish to install Java:
    $ cd /usr/local
    Make sure the file is set to "executable":
    $ chmod +x /home/waldo/j2sdk-1_4_1_02-linux-i586.bin
    Execute the file:
    $ /home/waldo/j2sdk-1_4_1_02-linux-i586.bin
    Now log out of root. You're done.
    Test your installation by typing something like:
    $ /usr/local/j2sdk-1.4.1_02/bin/java -version
    If you want to run java without typing the full path, you must put Java's bin directory in your path:
    $ echo path
    $ export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/j2sdk-1.4.1_02/bin
    $ echo path
    (the "echo path" is not necessary; it's so that you can see what's going on)
    Now you should be able to type:
    $ java -version
    You will need to put the "export PATH=..." line in your .bash_profile script file for it to be permanent.

  • Running Java app when java not installed

    I need to run java apps on a server I don't control and the admin will not install java. :(
    Tried a few things to run java without installation, but get error that a java registry item can not be found. "Error opening registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment'" Might be that without control of the registry, there's no way to run the java engine, but curious if there's a way to get it to run... I'm gonna play around with it, but figured if someone out there knows it's not possible, they could save me time by letting me know.
    Thanks!

    Depends on what you want to run. To run an applet on the computer requires that the JRE be installed, as the applet needs the Java Plug-in and Registry keys that the JRE install includes. To run a Java program from the command line needs a copy of the JRE, but it does not need to be "installed" by the Java installer. Then the command "java ... classname" needs to include the full path to the java executable that the JRE contains.
    There might be websites that allow you to run certain kinds of Java programs on the website. I don't know if they still wxist. I also doubt that they'll run applets.
