Run labview exclusively on windows

Hi,
This may not be a question specific to LabView. I appologize in advance.
I need to run a labview program while preventing user doing anything else. The user can operate the labview program but cannot run any other applications. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks.
Bo

Is this a permissions issue, or you want the PC to look like it runs only your program? If it's the latter, you can replace the windows shell with your application. There are some caveats you will want to look into, however. I would google "replace windows shell" and see what you can find. I know it has been successfully done with LabVIEW applications because there were presentations on it at the CLA Summit this year.

  • Run Labview as different windows user (for database connectivity)

I have to connect to a corporate remote MSSQL-Database on the network, using the database connectivity toolkit for LabVIEW.
The db-authentification is realized checking the windows user (ads) who acceses the datebase (not a database user / password which is standard in the database vis)
Therefore I have to run LabVIEW as the defined windows user, different than the logged in user on the pc.
Is that possible to realize with LabVIEW?
Other Windows-tools allow to define the windows user/password which "run" an application - how can I do that with LabVIEW?

Hi Zav.  There is a windows command 'runas' which _may_ let you do what you want; I haven't
tried what you need to do, but is has worked for other tasks for us.  Try 'runas /?' for the switches.
You will have to build your LV program into an executable, then use runas to launch it.  Is there
a reason you can't just login to Windows as the required user?
If you can get your db admin to allow dbuser/password authentication that would be a much better
    way to go.

  • Error Code 37 running labview 6 with windows XP

I've checked most of the posts concerning this Generic error code 37. Here is my dilemma..Currently running Labview 6 on a windows NT system. That computer is on its last legs and we want to upgrade to XP...I installed labview 6 on an XP machine and the program runs fine..and I actually get data from my external device except I get the ERROR 37...The big thing is I cannot run a SUBVI that creates a linear fit because once I get the error 37, the SUBVI stops. I can't understand how I can read data from my external device, yet get the device not found msg. I've even tried installing LV 7, and LV 8 yet get the same results.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the information...Unfortunately I tried all the suggestions and still no luck. The weird thing is I can get individual data from the analog device to output from the VI (i get actual data to show where it is supposed to show in the output boxes), yet I still get the "ERROR 37" message. The one big problem is that I cannot standardize the device through the LV program and therefore the individual data is not calibrated properly. In the standardize VI, the programs runs through a series of samples, and creates a calibration curve. Then when we run individual analyses the calibration curve is used. The problem that occurs in the standardize VI is that the program doesn't advance past the first sample (error 37)so I cannot generate the calibration curve.
All of the suggestions are greatly aprreciated. What I really do not understand is that without changing anything (just copying files from one computer to another) how the error code comes about. One thing I am going to try over the weekend is to add another COMM port and see what happens.
This may seem ignorant, but How do you "CLOSE" a COMM port???

  • Run Labview program on Windows 7 Ultimate

Has anyone run labview program (built application) on Windows 7 Ultimate? Is there any issues? I'm trying to define the system requirement for my application installation and run time. Windows 7 Ultimate was required by my coworker for another application and I want to make sure this requirement won't affect my labview application.
    Thanks very much!

I'm sorry to say you're screwed, it only works on W7 Home Premium.
Nah! Just kidding, from a programming point there's no noticable difference between the different W7 versions.

  • Is it possible to run labview app on windows embedded compact 7?

    Hi,
I have a low cost single board computer from ICOP, running embedded compact 7 from windows. The board has all the features such as ethernet, usb, serial, vga etc. Is it possible to install labview runtime and run the labview developed apps on this platform?? If so please provide me the links to any related resources.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks so much Gene. I really appreciate your time and suggestions.
Btw, should have been clearer  as one couldn't imagine I meant that 5.5 (i.e. ancient one). The adobe website also has this info: Windows 8.1 compatibility for Adobe Photoshop version 5 which just says version 5.5 under compatibility. So it does seem possible indeed to run this but perhaps for someone more techie. Had a look at the thread re: 6.0 and tried to run it as admin. Tried copying the contents on the desktop and change the compatibility under properties (even ran compatibility trouble shooter under properties) - but in vain. Must be doing something wrong. Prolly easier to return the CD (:/)
If anyone could drop an idea in relation to how/where to buy a genuine and legal copy of a CS5/CS6 I woudl greatly appreciate. I bought the 5.5 off eBay and probably will search for the right version this time on there again. But it's a bit of a question mark for me in regards to how do I make sure that I buy a genuine licenced version which I can register with the Adobe.

  • Running LabVIEW applications on Windows Terminal Server

I have built a client application in LabVIEW that one of our users want to run on a Windows 2000 Terminal Server...the question is; how does Windows Terminal Server handle the different sessions; does is launch multiple copies of the application and if so how about support files? In my case the client application has a configuration and a temp file in it's directory...if multiple users use the application on the terminal server; does it or can it be set up to make one copy of the app directory for each session? If not - is there a way / what is the best way to get separate configurations and temp files for each session?

  • How to run labview program in debugging mode in windows 95 version

    Respected all,
I am facing probelm while running probe.vi.
I received this command "connection to acquisition board was not found" when i run labview program.
I  am using labview 5.1, fieldpoint FP 1000, NI-DAQ 6.5, Field point explorer version 1.6, Measurement and Automation Explorer 1.0.1.
I would kindly request you please help me how to run my program probe.vi in debugging mode in windows 95 version, so that i can locate where error occurs.
    Thanking You
    Yours faithfully
    M.Vijay

    Respected Norbert,
Thank you very much to for your help.
Norbert : Possible reasons are e.g. wrong IDs for measurement devices. If the error is connect to the FieldPoint, it is possible that it isn't configured correctly.
I am using Field point explorer 1.6, The Field point instrument FP 1000 and RS-232 port is using. It is confirmed that the field point instrument is working properly by LED light indication test.
Norbert: It sound like you are using DAQ devices (like PCI MIO 6952E) in the application. Are you sure that you select the correct device ID for this?
I am asking you to know, If i using Labview and  Fieldpoint instrument FP 1000 to monitor my parameter interms of All, Channel 0, Channel 1, Channel 2, Channel 3, Channel 4, Channel 5, Channel 6, Channel 7 for my measurement.
But now i need to solve the command connection to acquisition board was not found, The expert say this command is due to there was no AT-AO-10 Analog Output board was present in CPU.
I do not find AT-AO-10 Analog Output board in my CPU, Previously the instrument was worked perfectly by other person who assembled everthing to measure temperature.
The only aswer know send by previous person is if my task does not imply the use of a DAQ you probably have to locate where the DAQ driver is called and exclude it from the program. try to run the program in debugging mode so that you can locate where the error occurs.
I do not know how to proceed his instruction. So i would kindly request you to please help me to solve my probelm.
I also removed AT-AO-10 software from device manager >> Data Acquisition system >>  AT-AO-10 just now.
I also find GPIB version 1.30, when i remove in add or remove program, it say that Error removing the GPIB.
I am eagerly waiting for your help.
    Thanking You
    Yours faithfully

  • Can i run labview on Windows CE or embedded XP?

If it is possible, what are the minimum specifications for the PC? And can anyone recommend a manufacturer?

Basically, anything that will run on XP should run on XP Embedded. I am
presently running LabVIEW applications on XP Embedded. Windows CE is a
totally different operating system and will not presently run LabVIEW (NI
should verify this but I'm fairly sure this is true). You'll have to ask NI
when this will change but I think there will be CE support in the future.
XP Embedded should run on any PC that XP will run on but if you stick with
better known brands and components you'll have an easier time building your
XP application. Your speed should be similar to regular XP but your hard
drive space is usually a lot less because you strip out as much of the
operating system as you want. I am running on bootable CDs without any hard
    drive.

  • I would like to create a pop-up window appear from Labview Interface. In this window, I will have a slide control and an image taken from a camera. The main VI have to run while pop-up window is open. How can I do ?

When I pushed a button, this pop-up window has to appear. There will be a slide control and a picture from a camera in this window. Is it possible to make appear this windows while main VI Interface continue to run ? How can I do this ? Thank you for your answers.
    Cyril.

Here you go. This is simple example. Maybe not the best way, I am just
beginner in LV and still not comfortable with data flow that much. I prefer
events, so I would change this to use Event Structures.
When you click on OK button on SliderMain, it opens Slider.vi. Now both
windows are open and you can interact with both. Now if you click on OK
again with Slider.vi open, you run into problems. Only thing I did was
change VI properties of slider.vi, mainly window appearance.

  • Is it possible to run LabVIEW 7.1 and 8.5 under the same Windows installation?

We have an older version of LabVIEW (7.1) which includes functionality for Event Notifications and the base version of LV8.3, which does not seem to contain this functionality.
Is it possible to run both of these from the same Windows Installation?  If not I plan to create a new partition and a new Windows installation just to accomodate the two of them.

Something else to consider is windows compatibility. If you are running LabVIEW on Vista, I would highly discourage installation of Lv 7.1 and 8.5 on the same machine (even if they were different partitions), since there are some significant issues in terms harware compatibility.I am running windows 7.1 and 8.2.1 on a test station with no problems, but the OS is Win XP. My biggest gripe about the dual software system is when a v 7.1 files is opened up by 8.2.1. There is not a system to prevent it from happening, and once we accidentally save a 7.1 app in 8.2,1, going back to 7.1 is a big headache.

  • Labview 2012 32bit running in 64 bit windows

    Hello Sir/MAdam,
I have recently installed LabView 2012 on 64-bit windows 7. It seems LabView is 32-bit. When I run a simple code for reading digital inputs, it does not response while when I run this code on LabView 2010 running on a 32-bit PC it works!
Could this problem be because of 32-bit LabView 2012 running on my 64-bit windows. I also installed drivers which support 64-bit.
I attached the simple code I am using for reading digital inputs.
I appreciate in advance your kind help.
    Thanks,

    Soroush,
At this point it's still a little hard to say what may be causing this problem. Have you tried running any other I/O examples included with LabVIEW? Are these also unresponsive on the 64-bit machine running LabVIEW 2012?
Are you able to see any values using the Test Panels for the simulated cards in the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)?
I don't think this is related to the 32- or 64-bit architecture of the computer, but hopefully we can help you figure something out.
    Best regards,

  • Running LabView 7.1 with PCI-6251 in Windows 7

I am very new to Labview, and would appreciate any assistance on this issue.  I was tasked with solving it and while I have made some progress I have now hit a wall.
A computer with a PCI-6251 data capture card, some custom built (external) hardware and LabView 7.1 has been used for many years for a single, specific task, to do verification testing in a manufacturing environment.  The system works well and no additional features or functionality is required.
The computer failed and a new one with a PCI card slot was purchased to replace it.  Of course as a new PC it has Windows 7 and hardware drivers for XP don’t exist.  I therefore need to run LabView 7.1 on Windows 7 with a NI-DAQ card.
I installed the NI-DAQmx 9.5.1 driver and then installed LabView 7.1 (as discussed here).  The driver would not install if LabView was already installed since it gave the “unsupported on this version of windows error”.  MAX recognized the card, which it couldn’t when trying to use the 7.5 NI-DAQ driver.
Now LabView opens but when I try to run the .vi used for testing it complains of 19 missing sub .vis which I cannot locate and I can’t find on the old computer to try to point LabView towards.
I think something weird is occurring with trying to use the 9.5.1 driver with LabView 7.1.  Are there any suggestion or is there any advice on getting a PCI-6251 working with Labview 7.1 on a Windows 7 machine?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

After much greif and trying a half dozen various drivers with various settings and other ideas the following procedure based on Caraval's advice worked first time with no errors and seemingly no functional issues.  The system so far appears to be running in Windows 7 just as it was on Windows XP.
    1.  Install LabView from original install CDs, by opening the folder and right-clicking 'setup.exe' and clicking 'run as administrator'.  Selected 'do not install drivers' during the install procedure.  Rebooted computer.
    2.  Installed NI-DAQmx 8.9 from the self-extracting .zip file available here.  Shutdown computer.
    3.  Removed power, pressed power button to completely discharge power supply.  Installed PCI-6251 card.
    4.  Booted computer, and logged in.  Waited a long time, Windows eventually saw new hardware and installed drivers.  Verified MAX could see card.
    5.  Opened LabView and everything worked.
Looks like we bought the system a few more years.  Will probably have to upgrade everything next time around though.  Many thanks to everyone who commented on this thread.

  • Can you run labview on Windows Tablet PC Edition?

Can you run labview on Windows Tablet PC Edition?...or does LabVIEW executable and Run-time engine operate with this OS?

LabVIEW 7.x will run without any problems on a Windows Tablet PC with SP1. There have been documented issues with Windows XP SP2 and LabVIEW subsequently not exiting properly--LabVIEW's window closes but somehow it is still present in the task manager.
    Hope this helps.

  • Are there any issues regarding running Labview on Windows Vista

I am a cognitive psychology graduate student, and I am considering switching to LabView to display stimuli and gather RT data. I have previously used E-Prime for this task, but E-Prime doesn't seem to run well with Windows Vista. Are there any known issues regarding running LabView with Windows Vista?
    Thanks
    Chris

I've had no problems on Vista*. Only issue I've had was concerning how Vista uses fonts, but if you start on Vista and don't switch between XP and Vista, etc., then you'll be OK.
*no problems with LabVIEW's compatibility with Vista. Now, Vista in general, that's another story and not for this thread/forum.

  • Repeated blue screen crash when running labview 8.2 on Dell optiplex GX620

Hi, I have recently experienced a series of 'blue screen' crashes on a Dell Optiplex GX620 while running Labview 8.2. The dell is running Windows XP SP2 with an ATI Radeon X600 graphics card. Labview is interfacing with a NI DAQPad 6015 device. The computer is a dedicated Labview machine so there is no other third party software that has been installed that could be causing the problem. Also, the computer is one of three identical machines, the only one that has labview installed and the only one that is crashing. Upon rebooting after the first 'blue screen' crash an error report indicated that there was a problem with the ATI graphics driver and suggested updating the driver to the latest version. This was done. Upon rebooting after the second 'blue screen' crash an error report indicated that there was a problem with the RAM. Both of these crashes occurred while running a labview application. A further two incidents have occurred where the computer has restarted for no apparent reason while running a labview application. I was wondering if you were aware of any known issues/incompatibilities with my specific machine and labview 8.2, or if there could be any other known issues with labview that might be causing the crashes. It should also be noted that this is a new setup and these crashes have occurred in relatively short time frame. Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
To have a better understanding of what is causing the blue screen crash and the Windows restart, we may need to retrieve the memory dump caused by the crash in Windows XP.  Before we actually get into that, we may need to disable Automatic Reboot by Windows when it crashes.  I have attached a link that describes how to disable computer reboot after a crash and I have also attached a link of how to retreive the memory dump.  Let me know how it goes!
Why Does My Computer Automatically Reboot For No Reason?
How Can I Create a Kernel Memory Dump When Windows Crashes?
(Note that we want to select Complete memory dump, not Kernel Memory dump)
