Running an XSLT transform against PS Connected Query

I need to transform the XML produced by PS Query into another XML (both standard and connected Query). Does anyone know of away of automatically applying an XSLT automatically at runtime?
Maybe I can use BI Publisher to transform XML to XML using an XSLT template? I've tried this but it doesn't work. I think the template type of XSL on the BI Publisher Report Defin refers to XSL-FO not XSLT.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Graham

Too bad you are not on PeopleTools 8.52, where this is out of the box PeopleTools functionality.
As you know PeopleTools also has the ability to transform inbound outbound xml in the Integration Broker, using XSLT application engines.
You might want to have look if you could create a scenario like:
- Create an Application Engine to execute the query
- Create an service with an inputmessage with the XSD of the query
- Create a sync local to local routing, with and XSLT application engine to transform the XML (this will send the xml, transform and receive the transformed xml)
- Use transformed XML as input for BI Publisher
- Invoke BI Publisher engine with transformed XML using PeopleCode
This way you will use the IB as your XSL processing engine.
Not sure if this will work and probably a lot of work, but a challenging exercise ... :)

  • Execute a query using ABAP  (XSLT transformation issue)

    Hello,
    I made the steps from this blog (part I, II and III).
    /people/durairaj.athavanraja/blog/2005/12/05/execute-bw-query-using-abap-part-iii
    When trying to run the XSLT transformation, I got the message that : XML invalid source file.
    I am not sure what are the steps for running a transformation, or running it for this case ,maybe something it's not ok. I just run it, did not provide any information.
    Any suggestions ? Did anyone use the function module described in this blog ?
    Thank you very much in advance.

    try giving
    CALL TRANSFORMATION (`ID`)
    SOURCE meta = meta_data[]
    output = <ltable>[]
    RESULT XML xml_out
    OPTIONS xml_header = 'NO'.
    and check - sometimes the codepages configured in the BW system tend to cause an issue... I am not sure if the syntax is right though - but you are basically trying to bypass any encoding that is happening in the query transformation....

  • Running Connected Query with Run Control Parameters using App Engine

    Hello,
    I created a connected query that has 1 parent query and 1 child query, and use this as DataSource for the report that I am going to generate. I created an app engine that willl be called to generate this report. However, I encounter the error "Error occurred while processing the request. (228,101) PT_CONQRS.CONQRSMGR.OnExecute Name:GetXMLData PCPC:59072 Statement:1309". What could be causing this issue? One cause I am thinking is that the Connected Query not returning any data since I am not able to pass / map the values to the CQ's prompt fields. How is this done in CQ? I've done it in PS Query by using the function SetPSQueryPromptRecord+. I'm trying to search for this function's equivalent in CQ. I was able to search for a workaround (http://mfinchps.blogspot.com/2011/05/how-to-launch-connected-query-xml.html), but I still prefer to have a CQ data source.
    Below is the code that should handle mapping of CQ prompt fields:
    &oConQrsInst = create PT_CONQRS:CONQRSMGR(&OperId, &ReportName);
    &result = &oConQrsInst.Open(&oConQrsInst.Const.InitExisting);
    &CQPromptsArray = &oConQrsInst.QueriesPromptsArray;
    &rcdQryRunParms = CreateRecord(@&PromptRec);
    &sqlSelectQryParms = CreateSQL("%Selectall(:1) WHERE OPRID = :2 AND RUN_CNTL_ID = :3");
    &sqlSelectQryParms.Execute(&rcdQryRunParms, &OperId, &RunControlId);
    /*Loop through the Connected Query "Queries" and fill in each query's prompts as needed*/
    For &arrCtr = 1 To &CQPromptsArray.Len
    &rcdQryPrompts = &CQPromptsArray.Get(&arrCtr).QueryPromptRecord;
    For &i = 1 To &rcdQryPrompts.FieldCount
    While &sqlSelectQryParms.Fetch(&rcdQryRunParms)
    If &rcdQryPrompts.GetField(&i).Name = &rcdQryRunParms.GetField(Field.BNDNAME).Value Then
    &rcdQryPrompts.GetField(&i).Value = &rcdQryRunParms.GetField(Field.BNDVALUE).Value;
    Break;
    End-If;
    End-While;
    End-For;
    &sqlSelectQryParms.Close();
    End-For;
    rem &oRptDefn.SetPSQueryPromptRecord(&rcdQryPrompts);  -> need to have equivalent of this+
    &oConQrsInst.Close();
    Thanks!
    Janet

    i think you have run the code to generate the XML file from your connected query...
    check the following things
    1. Check the Report definition is defined or not for the file that you want generate.
    2. if its defined check the RTF template is present or not.
    3.Check your code in Appengine whether you have mentioned the Report Definition and template name,

  • How to run the ASDoc XSLT transformation manually?

    Hello there,
    I am combining the XML (toplevel.xml and toplevel_classes.xml) output of several actionscript projects into
    a one central XML file. I do this by first running the asdoc tool on the separate projects with the keep-xml and
    skip-xsl switches set to true. I then run my own XSLT script that combines the toplevel XML files and
    toplevel_classes XML files into two main files.
    After that I'd like to run the actual HTML generation, as far as I know its not possible to run asdoc with certain
    switches that tell it to skip the XML generation and just perform the XSLT transform immediately for a specified
    toplevel.xml and toplevel_classes.xml.
    Therefore I guess I have to run the XSLT tranforms from the 'templates' directory myself.
    So, thus my question is, what is the exact order of XSLT transforms and for which files?
    i.e. do I call class-list.xsl with toplevel_classes.xml, etc?
    thanx a lot in advance,
    Roland

    Hey there,
    yes, I understood what you meant, but even just the physical copying of the files will take a fair amount of time that I prefer to avoid
    I'm getting down with ANT as we speak Its a load of trial and error, but I'll report back if I have things working.
    Cheers,
    Roland

  • XSLT producing different results via debugger and xslt.Transform()

    I'm producing the body of an email via an xsl. I've been having a problem with the html nested inside a <table> tag not displaying correctly. With a bit of help from the good folks over at the asp.net forums, I've tracked the problem down to getting
    different results if I run the xsl via the debugger or via a compiled transform.
    When I debug the xsl it produces
          <table border="1" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" style="..." id="tmsEmailTable">
            <tr>
              <th width="50%" align="center"><b>Issue</b></th>
              <th width="50%" align="center"><b>Resolution</b></th>
            </tr>
            <tr>
              <td>Missing Acknowledgement date</td>
              <td><p> Test test</p></td>
            </tr>
            <tr>
              <td>Missing Agent and/or Seller signature</td>
        </table>
    And that's absolutely correct and displays perfectly if I save the result as an html file. But when I use xslt.Transform(..), where xslt is a compiled transform, it produces
    <table border="1" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" style="..." id="tmsEmailTable">
                <tr><th width="50%" align="center"><b>Issue</b></th><th width="50%" align="center"><b>Resolution</b></th></tr>
                <tr>
                    <td>
                        Missing Acknowledgement date
                    </td>
                    <td></td>
                </tr>
            </table>
        </p><p> Test test</p></td></tr><tr>
            <td>Missing Agent and/or Seller signature</td>
            <td>
        </table>
    And to make it even more interesting, that extra </table> tag and the misplaced table data only occur on the first table row, but the table rows are generated by an xsl:for-each.
    The relevant bit of the xsl is:
              <table border="1" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" style="..." id="tmsEmailTable">
                <tr>
                  <th width="50%" align="center">
                    <b>Issue</b>
                  </th>
                  <th width="50%" align="center">
                    <b>Resolution</b>
                  </th>
                </tr>
                <xsl:for-each select="emailbody/checklist/item">
                  <xsl:if test="string-length(select='issue')>0">
                    <tr>
                      <td>
                        <xsl:value-of select="issue" disable-output-escaping="yes" />
                      </td>
                      <td>
                        <xsl:value-of select="resolution" disable-output-escaping="yes" />
                      </td>
                    </tr>
                  </xsl:if>
                 </xsl:for-each>
              </table>
    The code that generates the compiled transform and the (incorrect) output is:
                Dim xslt As XslCompiledTransform = New XslCompiledTransform(True)
                'Dim xslt As XslTransform = New XslTransform
                xslt.Load(templatePath)
                Dim objStream As Stream = New MemoryStream(UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(xmlData))
                Dim strbldrXML As StringBuilder = New StringBuilder()
                Dim objXmlReader As XmlReader = XmlReader.Create(objStream)
                Dim objXmlWriter As XmlWriter = XmlWriter.Create(strbldrXML)
                xslt.Transform(objXmlReader, objXmlWriter)
    I've checked that templatePath is pointing to the right file, and the source file I'm debugging the xsl against was copied from the xmlData parameter, so I know the same stuff is getting fed into it.
    I've been chasing this for days, and I'm about ready to quit and go get a job at a fast food joint. I'm not wonderful with xsl in general, or xsl in .NET in particular. Somebody PLEASE tell me I'm doing something stupid....

    Thanks for the replay, Fred, but that wasn't the problem.
    I still don't know what the problem was, but in putting together a sample for review, I cleaned up the code a little (I inherited this), and while it
    appears to be functionally identical, it's working now. Since we're scheduled to go live on Friday, I'm gonna just take the win ;)
    In the unlikely event that anybody's curious, the original, non-functional code, looked like this:
    Public Function createEmailBody(ByVal templateType As String, ByVal xmlData As String) As String
                Dim templatePath, emailBody As String
                templatePath = Me.templatePath & "\" & templateType & ".xsl"
                Dim xpd As New XPathDocument(New StringReader(xmlData))
                Dim xslt As XslCompiledTransform = New XslCompiledTransform(False)
                xslt.Load(templatePath)
                Dim objStream As Stream = New MemoryStream(UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(xmlData))
                Dim strbldrXML As StringBuilder = New StringBuilder()
                Dim objXmlReader As XmlReader = XmlReader.Create(objStream)
                Dim objXmlWriter As XmlWriter = XmlWriter.Create(strbldrXML)
                xslt.Transform(objXmlReader, objXmlWriter)
                emailBody = strbldrXML.ToString()
                Return emailBody
    End Function
    In cleaning it up, I wrote this:
    Public Function createEmailBody(ByVal templateType As String, ByVal xmlData As String) As String
                Dim xslt As XslCompiledTransform = New XslCompiledTransform(False)
                Dim templatePath As String = Me.templatePath & templateType & ".xsl"
                xslt.Load(templatePath)
                Dim reader As XmlReader = XmlReader.Create(New MemoryStream(UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(xmlData)))
                Dim outSB As StringBuilder = New StringBuilder()
                Dim writer As XmlWriter = XmlWriter.Create(outSB)
                xslt.Transform(reader, writer)
                Dim emailBody As String = outSB.ToString()
                Return emailBody
    End Function
    As I said, they look functionally identical to me, but obviously they're not, because the second one works....

  • Performance of XSLT transformation

    Hello everybody,
    I´m trying to do some in-database XML transformations from one XML format to another with a rather complex xsl stylesheet of about 9000 lines of code which performs this transformation. At first I tested the XDK XSLT functionality by simply doing a Transformation over the JAXP API outside the Database. It performed not bad, altough the memory consumption was a little bit higher then Saxon or Xalan. After that I read about the possibilities of in-database transformation, which should consume less memory because of oracle´s xml features like scalable DOM, XML Indexing and Query Rewriting when using object relational or binary storage. So we loaded our testdata into the db (we are using 11gR2 on a test system with Intel Core2Duo @ 3GhZ and 3GB RAM), in different XML storage options (XMLTYPE CLOB, Binary, OR) and tried to do a XSLT transformation on the columns. But it isn´t working.
    The db seems not to be able to cope with the transformation although the parser and processor should be the same as the off-database transformation that was working well (or am I wrong?). After half an hour we aborted because the db hadn´t finished the transformation yet (the off-db transformation of this 100KB XML took less then a second). We tried indexing the columns with XMLIndex, didn´t work out, we tried both XMLTYPE´s XMLtransform() and dbms_xslprocessor.processxsl(), same problem, the DB is working and working with no result, after some time we have to terminate. With a simple teststylesheet the transformation is doing fine but our complex stylesheet seems to be the problem.
    My question is, why is the xslt performance so poorly with the complex stylesheet and why can I use the XDK Parser and Processor in an off-db transformation very efficiently but when doing the same transformation in the db it´s not working.
    Hope you can help me out a little bit I´m really running out of ideas.
    Greetz dirac

    Hi,
    The db seems not to be able to cope with the transformation although the parser and processor should be the same as the off-database transformation that was working well (or am I wrong?). No, the database built-in XSLT processor (C-based) is not the same as the XDK's Java implementation.
    There's also a C XSLT processor available for external transformation and working with compiled stylesheets, it should outperform the Java implementation.
    See : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e23582/adx_c_xslt.htm#i1020191
    We tried indexing the columns with XMLIndex, didn´t work out, we tried both XMLTYPE´s XMLtransform() and dbms_xslprocessor.processxsl(), same problem, the DB is working and working with no result, after some time we have to terminate. With a simple teststylesheet the transformation is doing fine but our complex stylesheet seems to be the problem.XMLIndexes won't help at all in this situation.
    In my experience so far with the built-in engine, I've seen the best result when the XML document we want transform is stored as binary XML.
    I don't know about the scalable DOM (or "lazy" DOM loading) feature described in the documentation, seems it doesn't support complex transformations, much like functional vs. streaming evaluation for XQuery.
    Hope you can help me out a little bit I´m really running out of ideas.I'd be interested in a test case if you have the possibility (stylesheet + sample input XML). You can mail me at this address : mb[dot]perso[at]wanadoo[dot]fr
    If you can't, could you describe what kind of transformation you're performing and how can I reproduce that behaviour?
    Thanks.
    Marc.

    Hi Priya,
    you can try with the below,
    1) Create a local ITAB with the structure of the XML,
    TYPES: BEGIN OF t_data,
            projectid           TYPE char30,
            stage               TYPE char30,
            country             TYPE char30,
            region              TYPE char30,
            teamleader          TYPE char30,
            teamleaderfirstname TYPE char30,
            teamleaderlastname  TYPE char30,
            actiontype          TYPE char30,
           END OF t_data.
    2) Create an XSLT prog in "STRANS" with the below code,
    <xsl:transform xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
    xmlns:sap="http://www.sap.com/sapxsl" version="1.0">
    <xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>
    <xsl:template match="/">
    <asx:abap xmlns:asx="http://www.sap.com/abapxml" version="1.0">
    <asx:values>
    <L_DATA>
    <xsl:apply-templates select="//projectInfo"/>
    </L_DATA>
    </asx:values>
    </asx:abap>
    </xsl:template>
    <xsl:template match="projectInfo">
    <conceptRevDecisionXml>
    <PROJECTID>
    <xsl:value-of select="projectId"/>
    </PROJECTID>
    <STAGE>
    <xsl:value-of select="stage"/>
    </STAGE>
    <COUNTRY>
    <xsl:value-of select="country"/>
    </COUNTRY>
    <REGION>
    <xsl:value-of select="region"/>
    </REGION>
    <TEAMLEADER>
    <xsl:value-of select="teamleader"/>
    </TEAMLEADER>
    <TEAMLEADERFIRSTNAME>
    <xsl:value-of select="teamleaderfirstname"/>
    </TEAMLEADERFIRSTNAME>
    <TEAMLEADERLASTNAME>

    </conceptRevDecisionXml>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:transform>
    3) Call the transformation as shown below,
    CALL TRANSFORMATION zxslt_project ---> "Name of the XSLT prog created above

    RESULT l_data = l_data.                          ---> ITAB as in step 1 above

  • BI Admin Tool and XSLT transformation for XML data source - How it works ?

    Hello,
    There is a possibility to import data from XML data source using BI Admin Tool.
    In the import window we can point XSLT file. What is the purpose of that XSLT field?
    Why I am asking ?
    I thought it is smth like XSLT processor, but simply it doesnt work.
    What I did:
    - I pointed XML data source file
    - I pointed XSLT transformation file
    - Click OK, and still get the message that the XML file structure is not supported
    After that I transformed that XML file with some desktop XSLT processor using the same XSLT file, and I tried to connect that file directly using BI Admin tool.Then it works. So it means that the transformation is ok.
    So basically one question comes to my mind in that situation:
    What is the purpose of XSLT field in BI Admin Tool when it comes to XML data source ?
    (it doesnt look like XSLT processor)
    Greetings
    /Michal

    Hi Mariano
    Why you need to use XSLT for transforming XML file into ABAP table
    Code is a part of some ABAP report. Looks like it is reading a file from file system and updating table after transformation
    If you have requirement like you need to read XML file and then insert the data into a SAP table
    You can use
    File to RFC
    File to Proxy scenario using SAP PI.
    Please provide more inputs on requirement to help
    Thanks
    Gaurav

  • XSLT Transformation error:  Non-canonical structure of element name

    Good day experts,
    I have recently started using xslt, and came upon the following demo in the sdn.
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ABAP/XMLXSLTwith+ABAP
    I have retrieved the example xml files from airplus.com, as per the instructions, and implemented the code.
    When I test the xslt transformation in se80, it transforms correctly.
    However, when I run the program, I get the following error.
    CX_XSLT_FORMAT_ERROR
    Transformation error:  Non-canonical structure of element name XML_OUTPUT
    Is there an error in the example that I am not aware of?
    Thanks in advance,
    Johan Kriek

    Found the solution.
    You rename the tag <XML_OUTPUT> to anything else like <TEST>. And Hurray!!! it works.
    It looks like SAP is using this name internally somewhere so we are getting error when we are using same name.
    Anyways the problem is solved.

    It's supposed to generate 1 Route Segment for each disctint Route Id on the Source file, it has always worked fine as we ran several tests before going into production system, but now, sometimes it misses a few routes for example the output will be 25 different Routes for a source file that 28, or 2 routes from a file that as 3.
    I have tested the XSLT on the repository and it works fine all the time, same thing when using xml spy, i always download the payload i get from the file adapter, i got a source file from PRD that has 28 routes and i ran the whole scenario on QAS and it generated 12 routes only, im about to open an OSS message but first i wanted to know if anyone has seen something like this, thanks in advance for all the help you guys can provide.
    Best Regards,
    Roberto.
    p.s. i can send the XSL if needed or anything just ask for it.

    Hi,
    Basically because i  have to do 2 transformations, first i run the XSLT to group all the deliveries and such, and then i do a graphic mapping to split it into single Shipment Idocs, i dont know how to group by id on graphical mapping..., anyway i don't think the fact that im using BPM would finally alter the xslt result,

    Roberto.

  • Help on xslt transformation

    Hi,
    I am working on a xslt transformation and  I am finding it difficult to implement the transformation. The scenario is as below.
    Input format :-
    A
    B
    B
    B
    4
    5
    A
    B
    B
    A
    B
    B
    B
    Output format :-
    A
    B
    B
    B (since after A there were 3 B’s before the next A)
    A
    B
    B(since after A there were two B’s before the next A)
    A
    B
    B
    B
    So basically I am not interested in 4,5 type records the output should have repetition of (A followed by B’s(till the next occurance of A)).
    if some has done any similar kind of transformation ,kindly let me know

    the pusedo code I am thinking for the above transformation is as below
    for-each of A
         do mappings using A's elements values
         Flag=Run
         For-each of B
              if flag!=stop
                    do B's mapping using B's elements values
                    if  next node is A
                    Flag=Stop
    But I came to know that varaibles once initilaised cannot be changed or modified .Also in the above approach in the second iteration of A when I say for-each of B ,xslt will start again from the first occurrence of B in the whole file and not from the B which is following the second A's occurence
    i am wondering if can this can be achieved in xslt or shoud we consider using only java?

  • Connected Query issue

    Hello -
    I've been working on creating a payroll report with tax balance and earnings data.
    I have a query for each set of data.
    Each set has an emplid and a balance_year as key fields.
    Since I can get all of the tax balance data in one record I am using it as my parent record in connected query.
    For earnings information there could be up to 25 records per employee so I am using these records as child records to the Tax parent.
    The issue is that when Preview XML is selected only the Tax Balance XML record is displayed for the first 6 records.
    No child record data is displayed.
    Any one else run into this before and come up with a solution?
    Thank you,
    Mike

    Default rows to fetch is 6 as defined in the Max Rows Fetched For Query field, if you set this to a greater number it will fetch more data or 0 it will fetch all data.
