Running Bridge on Two Computers - Keyword Problems

I'm currently trying to catalog pictures for a publication that the company I work for uses. We store the pictures on a shared database and I've been using Bridge CS5 on my computer to catalog them and assign the pictures keywords. We're running Bridge CS3 on another computer in the office, and when I click the shared database and search for a picture on the CS3 computer from a keyword I've assigned from my computer, nothing comes up. I have had to manually click every picture on the CS3 computer in order for my CS5 keywords to show up. I was under the assumption that the CS5 keywords would be "embedded" into the picture file, in a sense, that the CS3 computer shouldn't have any problem reading them since they're coming from a shared database.
Is there a way that I can get the CS3 computer to read my CS5 keywords and visa versa rather than by clicking on every picture?

I think the problem lies in indexing.  This has to be done before a keyword can be found.
CS3 and CS5 use different cache system, so each has its own cache.  By clicking on each picture you are in effect re-indexing.
If you are searching in one folder try this first - go to tools/cache/purge cache for xx folder.  Let it rebuild and then do search.

  • I have two related keyword problems.  Some keywords get "broadcast" to every photo in an event.  It's almost impossible to delete these keywords from individual photos.  I select the keyword, hit delete and it reappears after a few seconds.

I have two related problems with keywords in iphoto 11.  Sometimes, keywords get magically "broadcast" to every photo in an event or album.  It's difficult to delete these keywords.  If I select one and try to delete it it vanishes.  About half the time, it reappears again either in a couple of seconds or after I go to another photo and then return to the previous one.  When thios happens, I need to delete the keyword two or more times before it actually vanishes.  With several hundred photos in an event that all have a bad keyword, this is a tedious process.  I've tried rebuilding the library once, but with only the first (I think) option checked on the rebuild.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Running logic on two computers

Is anyone running two versions of logic on two different machines and locking them up? No nodes please, you can't run the exs on a node and thats the point of this question.

Mr. Udell, I remember you indeed. Greetings.
Well, two XS keys would change a lot in my universe. I better understand why you're going in this direction, and now, I'd encourage you to consider all EXS.
I have VSL First Edition Giga, then I cross/upgraded to EXS Pro Edition. Hence, I run both platforms. I intended to phase out my Giga and go all EXS. But there's Giga, loaded and ready to go with few polyphony issues and 1.5 GB from Windows... and a second XS key is a thousand dollars. So I'll be in Giga for a while.
In fact, I face a very similar situation as you, pressing for a larger template but frustrated by the OSX RAM limit.
EXS' seamlessness with Logic and the ability to offline bounce trump the benefits of Giga when cost is not an issue.
I'm well if reluctantly familiar with the world of sample translations, particularly from Giga to EXS. I use Translator and the native Giga Convert in EXS. If you can, Chris, spare yourself the tedium. It will consume time that you may better spend assembling a dual Mac template.
Really, all you need now is a cheaper second hand Mac and a MIDI device for it, if you don't mind analog recording to your primary Mac when mixing.
Personally, I've never broached a digital audio exchange between computers, but it would be ideal for you. (I'm wondering if you could still offline bounce with the audio of your second Mac digitally connected to your primary Mac.)
Another benefit is that, eventually, we'll access 8 GB of memory, which means 16 GB conceivably for you. And it's amazing how templates morph over time, according to the memory they may inherit. I've worked on orchestral templates since my first Roland S-550, and I doubt that we ever have enough memory. But things are ever-improving.

  • Running pse on two computers at the same time

I have installed pse 12 from the same disk on 2 computers.  One computer runs pse 12 and the other doesn't.  Is it because I'm only allowed to run the program on one computer at a time?

Do you run pse 12 aat the same time on 2 macnines?
No.  I must admit I don't have PSE12 yet.  I suggest wait for Barbara, Kelly or others who have PSE12 because they are in a better position to answer this than I am.
    Sorry for the confusion.

  • (legally) running iwork on two computers?

Hi, wasn't sure where to ask this.
My old mac laptop is dying (not important, overheating, graphics problems, etc). I'm getting a new one. I use keynote in lectures.
So I had an idea. What if I just use my old one in the classroom until it dies (since I get chalky and I'm plugging and unplugging things all the time). And just use the new one to work on (and maybe get more life out of the new one).
I'm the only one that uses either computer.
Do I have to buy another copy of iwork (trying to do things legally)?
    Message was edited by: counterpt

That's awesome thank you. All I need is a viewer on the old machine. I didn't know about the trial becoming a viewer.
I would have bought another copy but not if it was wasteful (If I didn't have to).

I have a Muse subscription on my desktop but occasionally need to acces it with my lap top. Is it possible to use both machines with one subscription?

    Alwheaton,
You can use the following links to download the latest version of Adobe Muse on  your Laptop/Desktop :
    Windows : http://www.adobe.com/go/muse_latest_win
    Mac : http://www.adobe.com/go/muse_latest_mac
And when it asks you to use it as trial version or a Subscription, just select Subscription and use your Adobe Id and Password (using which you purchased the subscription) when asked.

  • Can I have the same library on two computers?

I would like to run iTunes off two computers..work and home with my same library. Can I? How?
    Thank you much

I have seen the same info in a few different threads, but I'm still confused. My daughter has ITunes on an older computer, and wants to back up all the info for a new computer. I have ITunes on my computer, and tried to save her files on a flash drive (1 GB) and here's what happened: When I save either or both the .xml or .itl files, and tried to import them to my itunes, I got folders but no songs. When I saved the ITunes Music folder, that gave me the songs, but its more than 1 GB, so I guess I need more flash drives. [However, I was able to import a song that had been downloaded from a CD onto my daughter's computer while the drive was in place on my computer, but when the drive was gone, so was the song......is that always the case?] Do I need to copy the entire ITunes folder (including the .xml, .itl and Music) to the flash drive, and then copy that to the hard drive on the new computer? Help!

  • Bridge CS4 Search Not Displaying NEF Files + Keyword Problems

Hello, I am hoping someone can be of service to peculiar problem that apparently nobody else has had.
I am running Adobe Bridge CS4 (came bundled with Photoshop Elements 8) on a 2009 24 inch iMac with 4GB RAM and a 2.6mHz processor running Snow Leopard v10.6.2.
I use Adobe Bridge CS4 to add Keywords to all my photos and edit 14 bit Nikon NEF RAW files. I write the keywords to an .XMP sidecar
    file.
Two days I ago I changed something in Preferences->Metadata and the next time I started Bridge CS4 and used the loupe tool on a NEF
file, it took longer than usual for the preview to come up and when it did, it was at 200% magnification instead of 100%. Once the loupe preview showed up, the NEF file had some sort of processing applied to it (it became more contrasted.) This was all within Bridge ant NOT Adobe Camera Raw. I quit the program and the next time I started Bridge, it crashed upon using the loupe tool. I looked up help on Adobe's website and it appeared I had corrupted preferences. Per Adobe's instructions I option clicked at Bridge startup to delete the preferences and purge the cache.
Everything appeared to be normal until today when I searched for a keyword and got 36 random results when I know I have hundreds of
photos tagged with that particular keyword. I started typing in other keywords and getting the same sort of results- very limited numbers of photos I have hundreds of. I always include all subfolders in all searches and used every search method available through Bridge to no avail. The searches always came up with a fraction of the photos I actually have tagged.
I then verified and repaired all disk permissions from the operating system installation CD and Bridge started returning results as
usual. However, when I clicked on an individual file in the Content pane, some of my Keywords started to appear in italics below the rest of my Keyword tree. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to why some images will return the Keywords normally and others in italics. Also, sometime the italicized keyword tree will include keywords I edited due to typos and thus no longer existing my normal Keyword tree. I gave the "Make Persistent" command a try. It converts the italics to regular case, but it also doubles the tag so I now have two of that tag (one in the normal keyword tree, and the now converted italics keyword tree.)
Now I'm noticing that all my search results are not including NEF files; just JPEG and the occasional DNG file that I made through Adobe Camera RAW. I'm not sure if this has been the case throughout my problem or if I just noticed it late.
Regarding not displaying NEF files in searches, it appears that it will default to displaying JPEG if it has the option because as of lately I have only been shooting RAW and some of those files are showing up in the still-wonky searches (still displaying random or no photos of keywords.) However, if I manually navigate to a file, I can open and edit NEF files with no problem, they just don't display in any search modes.
Here's two short videos of what happens when I navigate a folder with NEF files by manually searching:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDjUDZzULKQ
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y9HkDK7DCs
When I click on a NEF file, the one ahead of it in Content view processes into a more contrasty image and the loupe tool previews jump between 100% and 400% and then change to 100% when dragged or they just process themselves right then and there.

I am running Adobe Bridge CS4 (came bundled with Photoshop Elements 8) on a 2009 24 inch iMac with 4GB RAM and a 2.6mHz processor running Snow Leopard v10.6.2.
Snow Leopard and Bridge CS4 do have some issues. Some have no problems and others have much problems I'm afraid.
I use Adobe Bridge CS4 to add Keywords to all my photos and edit 14 bit Nikon NEF RAW files. I write the keywords to an .XMP sidecar file.
To my knowledge the keywords are written into the XMP Metadata that is saved in the IPTC section of file itself, the XMP data in the sidecar file contain the changes you made in ACR. In other words, the keywords you have added should still be there.
Also see this Knowledge Base article about Keywords:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402660.html
Two days I ago I changed something in Preferences->Metadata and the next time I started Bridge CS4 and used the loupe tool on a NEF file, it took longer than usual for the preview to come up and when it did, it was at 200% magnification instead of 100%.
Changes metadata in prefs only affects the visability of the fields in the metadata panel. put or deselect a checkmark in front of an option will let you see or not see the field in this panel, the actual data and fields ar still in the file.
it was at 200% magnification instead of 100%. Once the loupe preview showed up, the NEF file had some sort of processing applied to it (it became more contrasted.) This was all within Bridge ant NOT Adobe Camera Raw.
You can change the magnification for the loupe to 100 / 200 / 400 and 800 % using the scrollwheel or with loupe active the + and - keys. Bridge shows the settings that you made in ACR. If you have changed the default Camera Raw setting it will also change the thumbs for this file. A thumbs needs some time to be cached. First it shows with a black border around, when first cached it shows the embedded preview and in the second round it renders the ACR settings and High Quality preview (if you have not disabled this setting). Caching needs some time.
Everything appeared to be normal until today when I searched for a keyword and got 36 random results when I know I have hundreds of photos tagged with that particular keyword. I started typing in other keywords and getting the same sort of results- very limited numbers of photos I have hundreds of. I always include all subfolders in all searches and used every search method available through Bridge to no avail. The searches always came up with a fraction of the photos I actually have tagged.
Maybe you need to let the indexing in find do its work again but it might also be a snow leopard issue. Try an other app (Digital Asset Management like Expresion Media or  Portfolio) to check about the keywording and find. You can use a trial version for several days. You have several options to use find keywords. In the panel itself, in the filterpanel uner the keyword tab, when clicking on a visible keyword it only shows the files with that keyword or in the menu Edit / find (shortcut cmd + F) explore the options in this menu and also choose include non indexed and let Bridge start to index your files again.
    Don't know about that.
Here's two short videos of what happens when I navigate a folder with NEF files by manually searching:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDjUDZzULKQ
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y9HkDK7DCs

As you can see the black border around some file that disappear after a while or when you select them they have not been cached. You used purge cache so most of your earlier cached results are gone and need to rebuild.

  • Syncing problem between iphone and two computers. Transfer speed issue.

An issue that I've recently started having problems with is syncing my contacts and calendar into two computers and my iphone. I've recently pickup up a new macbook pro to use when out of the office but my mac at work is still my main computer.
The problem is the two computers get equal usage but they also each get their own random entries as well as the iphone which requires me to sync the two to my iphone a few times a week. The computer at work runs the sync fine and is my main computer with the music stored on it. The sync with that one runs in no time as long as their isn't any change with the music. The problem comes about when I try and sync with my laptop. I have the sync music option turned off and I always click merge info for my calendar and contacts (about 2000 entries for contacts). The sync with the laptop can sometimes take over 10 minutes and I can't figure out why as it only shows the sync in progress bar.
It's not like I'm changing much info, it's usually just the calendar so I can't figure out why it takes so long on a much newer computer.
Any info would be greatly welcomed.
    Thanks,
    Robert

One thing that might help out.
Create a new login account on the new computer.
Open address book and enter a test or real contact.
open itunes and go through the initial setup.
Connect the iphone and try syncing just contacts.
    Allow the contacts to merge.
If this takes the same amount of time, then it is a system wide issue and you might need to reset isync.
If the sync only takes a short time like on the work computer, then it might be with the data or a program you have running in your user account when you login.
If you need to reset isync or sync services, here are a few articles that might help out.
One article is for osx 10.4.x and the other is for 10.5.x

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1628?viewlocale=en_US
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627?viewlocale=en_US
Make sure you use the correct article if you decide to reset sync services!!!!
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem syncing Mail between two computers

I know this is a well worn topic and I've read the posts on syncing mail between two computers. Overall, I've gotten it to work pretty well. Whenever I move from one computer to another, I copy my ~/Library/Mail folder to my thumbdrive and sync it w/ the same folder on my other computer before I fire up Mail on it.
But here's the problem: I rebuilt the "sent" mailbox on one of my computers (let's call it computer A). This apparently gives new message numbers to the messages. Things worked great on computer A after that.
Then I synced the mailbox with my other computer, computer B. On computer B, the change in mailbox numbers apparently was not recognized. Every message in the "sent" folder gave me the message that I needed to go online and download the message. So I rebuilt the "sent" mailbox on computer B. Things then worked great.
Then I synced back with computer A and the same thing happened. Every message in the sent folder gave me the "download from server message."
It seems that I'm in some sort of infinite loop. The rebuild on one computer is not recognized by the other computer. Clearly, there is some file somewhere that contains info that's not being conveyed when I sync the ~/Library/Mail folder.
    Any suggestions??

That is interesting. To that effect I have thrown together this Applescript:
(CAUTION... do not run this script, experimental only!
    set flashDrive to "FLASH"
tell application "System Events" to exists process "Mail.app"
if the result is true then tell application "Mail" to quit
-- copy files to mounted disk
    do shell script "rm -r /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/Mail/"
    do shell script "cp -r ~/Library/Mail /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/"
    do shell script "cp ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/Mail/"
    --copy files to userfolder
do shell script "rm -r ~/Library/Mail"
    do shell script "cp -r /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/Mail ~/Library/"
    do shell script "cp /Volumes/" & flashDrive & "/Mail/com.apple.mail.plist ~/Library/Preferences/"
Problem is, I don't know how to tell the script which version of mail data is older or newer. If you know of such a way let me know and I'll script it in, otherwise the user is stuck with manually choosing what to copy to where.
And as we all know, any user choices are error-prone.

I have two computers - iMac and PC.  What is the EARLIEST version of Acrobat I can run on each system.  I am running 10.9.2 on iMac and Windows 8 on PC.  Thanks.

Adobe currently supports Acrobat X and Acrobat XI for Mac and Windows platforms. More details about base system requirements can be found here: Tech specs | Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and the changes to these requirements with the product updates can be found here : Overview — Acrobat and Adobe Reader Release Notes. So the earliest version would be Acrobat X and the Latest would be Acrobat XI.

  • How to run the same license on two computers?

    Hello,
I have searched around a bit for answers to my questions without luck so far.
I have used Adobe Lightroom 3 & 4 on my computer for years. Now I have purchased a laptop computer as well. I am the only user of both computers. As I understand the end user license agreement, I am allowed to use the same license on both of my computers.
Is this straightforward? Do I just install LightRoom 4 with the serial number from the purchase? LR4 was an upgrade from LR3. Do I need to install LR3 first, or just use both serial numbers?
I will also like to upgrade my standalone computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8. I have actualle tried the upgrade process, and was told it failed, and that I need to do a complete (fresh) installation of Windows 8 (after formatting the computers disk).
Will I be able to do this? My preferred "end result" is running LR4 on both computers with Windows 8, although a fresh installation of Windows 8 on the standalone computer.
I am also considering purchasing Adobe Acrobat. Will I be able to run that as well on both computers?
What if I replace the standalone with a new computer one day - will I be able to move the license from the "old" one?
I would appreciate an answer to this post.
    Best Regards,
    Svein A. Martinsen

As you already indicated your awareness, you are allowed to install and activate Adobe software on two machines.  You should only need to install and then activate.  If you have the discs, then go that way.  I f you do not have discs, download the version(s) and use your serial number from your original purchase to activate.
As far as changing from Windows 7 to Windows 8 goes, that's generally beyond the calling of folks here.  I personally would not upgrade an OS, having done it once in the past and regretting it every day after that - I now prefer to live with what came with the machine.  You might find older software is not compatible with Windows 8 and there is nothing anyone here can do to change that.

  • Problems sharing across two computers on home lan

I must be doing something basic wrong. The instructions for sharing a downloaded digital edtion sound very easy in the help manual but following those directions I am not able to share a book across two computers on my home lan.
Both computers have been authorized by my user id. When I open the menu item on Library menu/Authorize computer
I'm told the computer is authorized and my UID is shown. However when I attempt to `add' the book I get a message saying:
    > This document cannot be opened on this machine.
    > Please contact the site where you obtained the document
    > to download another copy.
I just bought the book today not more than 2 hrs ago
The `knowledgbase' help for digital editions is completely useless and returns no hits regardless of what I type in the search field.
What else do I need to do to share a book across two home computers?

    Harry
You shouldn't need anything else. The common problems (after you have gotten past the authorization) for sharing are:
    - You copy over the .etd file instead of the .pdf file.
    - You copy over the .pdf file from /Digital Editions/ebx_backup instead of /Digital Editions. (My best guess, given the error message).
    - The file was purchased with only rights to view it on a single machine.
The not so common and more worrisome case would be if the License was not being correctly written into the file after you purchase it.
I would suggest that after verifying you are copying the correct file, you should open up a web support case, so that Bentley can track this, and help us gather all the correct information so we can figure out what is going on.
    Sorry you're having problems
