Running CGI within Portal's web server

I'm trying to get a BBS or chat system running that is written in Perl (this
is only for a prototype). Does anyone have any tips to give me as far as
where to install the scripts and how to get them to run.

Sun PS does not use EJBs. You can install Sun PS on Application server and still use your 'backend' classes as long as those are container agnostic

  • What am I doing wrong when running multiple applications with the Web Server enabled ?

    I am running multiple Vi's (applications) on the same Nt Workstation and the Web Server is enable for all applications. However, I am able to view only one Panel from the browser. Only the first application that is started can be viewed. What am I doing wrong ?

    Only one application can act as a web server at the default http port 80.
    To solve this either run all VIs into a single application or use different
    http ports for each application. For example an application can use the
    default port 80 and others use ports 8080, 8081, 8082 etc.
    In the browser, you enter the URL for non default ports as
    http://hostname:8080/...

  • Running a JSP on a web server

    Hello,
    I am new in programming. I would like to know how to run a JSP file on a web server. I have created a couple of JSP pages in NetBeeans. Now when I upload that build/web folder to a web server I get just the source code of the file when opening in browser.
    Is there something that needs to be installed on the server? Btw, when testing on localhost with tomcat server it works fine.
    Thanks for any help.

    You can't deploy servlets or JSPs on Apache web server or IIS. You need a servlet/JSP engine.

  • Biller Direct Portal / Web Server

    Hi,
    I plan to install Biller Direct onto our ERP Java Stack.
    Can Biller Direct integrate to a web site without the use of an SAP portal?
    I cannot locate any documents that clearly specifies the web server requirement.
    Thank you.

    It is a web application tha can run on a SAP J2EE web server and does not require portal.

  • Putting a helloword.java code to run on Sun Java Web Server

    Hello,
    Given helloworld.jsp:
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    public class HelloWorld extends HttpServlet {
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
                   throws ServletException, IOException {
         res.setContentType("text/html");
         PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();
         out.println("<HTML>");
         out.println("<HEAD><TITLE>Hello World</TITLE></HEAD>");
         out.println("<BODY>");
         out.println("<H1>Hello World</H1>");
         out.println("Today is: " + (new java.util.Date().toString()) );
         out.println("</BODY></HTML>");
    } // doGet
    } // HelloWorld
    How can I put this code to run on Sun Java System Web Server, how to compile this ? what and how to put in the webserver document and how to access it ?
    Thanks for verbose and basic information about this, appreciated...

    What you wrote is not a JSP. It is a Java Servlet.
    You need to compile it. That creates HelloWorld.class.
    Create a directory say hello. You need to create a directory structure as mentioned below.
    hello|
    WEB-INF|
    web.xml
    classes|
    HelloWorld.class
    You need to package it in a war (web archive) file.
    %cd hello
    %jar cvf hello.war .
    Then deploy this war file using admin GUI or wadm CLI.
    I would suggest using Netbeans IDE to create the web application.
    To deploy the war file on SJS web server 7 update 2, see my blog at

  • Crystal Reports for VS 2008 deployment on a web server

    Hello,
    I have .NET web application created in Visual Studio 2008. It uses built-in Crystal Report Viewer control. The reports are not built into the assembly, they are loaded from report files prepared outside of Visual Studio 2008.
    I would like to deploy Crystal Reports run-time components on a web server (Windows 2008 server with IIS 7).  I have found the article describing what needs to be deployed: https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=56787567
    Can you please let me know what kind of setup (virtual folder(s), permissions) is needed to make Crystal runtime components available for my web application. I have been trying to find instructions in the forums/wikis/articles with no success. I will need this info to communicate with our system administrator.
    Thank you.

    As long as you are deploying your app to a default app pool, you do not need to worry about virtual directories. The process you are running under will need read / write permissions on the win     emp folder as the report print engine uses that extensively.
    If you are using custom app pool you will have to either
    1) create the viewer virtual directory
    2) make the viewer folder part of your app directory structure
    Other than that, keep the following resources close at hand:

  • Oracle 9ias Reports within Portal

    We have published several Oracle Reports to Portal by configuring Reports 9ias Reports Services and then by registering the Reports Server and Reports Definition Files within portal, this works as expected.
    However, several of our Oracle reports point to another oracle database server, when these are run from within portal an exception is raised (REP-1202: ORACLE logon not specified). I can only assume that this is because the Oracle Reports run from within Portal are unable to connect to the external data source. Our existing portal reports connect work OK using a db link. Does anybody know a way to overcome this problem? We were thinking about Single Sign On or do we have to modify the portal PL-SQL package to provide a connection string for each Oracle Report?
    Cheers
    Dan

    How did you try to connect to the remote DB?
    Create a TNS entry on the node where your reports server runs, and specify it in the "userid" parameter: scott/tiger@myRemoteDB.

  • How to find out the exact version of web server 7.0

    Dear all,
    I am using currently web server 7.0 and in error logs its shows me following version
    Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 B12/04/2006 10:15
    what i need how to find out what exact version i am using in my webserver 7.0 is it update 6 or update 7 or update 8
    how to find out what exact version i am using in web server 7.0.....
    thanks and regards

    Web Server tells you specifically which Update release in the string you quote (in your string you are running the original release of Web Server 7.0).
    My server is currently running Web Server 7.0 Update 7. The startup string looks like:
    [19/Jan/2010:11:18:27] info (15407): CORE1116: Sun Java System Web Server 7.0U7 B12/14/2009 22:58

  • Use Imac as Web Server in A Windows Environment

    I would like to use an Imac to host some sites over my companies intranet. My question is how can it be done. I dont need the mac to file share or anything like that, just run as a ftp and web server. Any suggestions?

    Any reason why, assuming you have Windows 2000/2003 Server?
    At any rate, this subject doesn't have anything to do with Windows Compatibility as there isn't any compatibility issue here.
    Just turn on the Web Serving option in the Sharing control panel and Apache will start up.

  • Problem with maxprocs 1 on Sun One Web server 6.1

    I am using sun one web server on Unix with maxprocs set to 3.
    This means that there are 3 jvms running my application under 1 instance. However I have certain components like an application cache that I would like to share between these 3 processes.
    Additionally is there a way to configure the server so that requests from 1 session are served by 1 process only.
    I am really stuck here. Have searched in all the documentation, but in vain. Would really help if some one of the Sun Developers could answer this.
    Thanks
    Chetan

    Elving,
    It is great to hear that there is no predefined limit on number of sessions but if that's the case why the webserver always starts with 1000 allowed by default. Are there any potential performance reasons behind it?
    I have your link open in my browser for a few days now as a reference because I am experimenting with different Session Managers. I am trying to find a solution for BheegaChicken to be able to accomodate several thousand simultaneous sessions for his application.
    We use V6.0SP2 and SP6 and for BheegaChicken's app specifically V6.1SP2...
    I have spent some time in the past looking for the answers how to handle higher then 1000 sessions capacity on one instance and that was even before V6.1 was out. I have found the following reco that talks about optimal performance for sites using threads:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/816-5690-10/perf6.htm#17580
    *** start qoute
    Multi-Process Mode
    You can configure the server to handle requests using multiple processes with multiple threads in each process. This flexibility provides optimal performance for sites using threads, and also provides backward compatibility to sites running legacy applications that are not ready to run in a threaded environment. Because applications on Windows NT generally already take advantage of multi-thread considerations, this feature applies to Unix/Linux platforms.
    The advantage of multiple processes is that legacy applications that are not thread-aware or thread safe can be run more effectively in iPlanet Web Server. However, because all the Netscape/iPlanet extensions are built to support a single-process threaded environment, they may not run in the multi-process mode, and the Search plug-ins will fail on startup if the server is in multi-process mode.
    In the multi-process mode, the server spawns multiple server processes at startup. Each process contains one or more threads (depending on the configuration) which receive incoming requests. Since each process is completely independent, each one has its own copies of global variables, caches, and other resources. Using multiple processes requires more resources from your system. Also, if you try to install an application which requires shared state, it has to synchronize that state across multiple processes. NSAPI provides no helper functions for implementing cross-process synchronization.
    If you are not running any NSAPI in your server, you should use the default settings: one process and many threads. If you are running an application which is not scalable in a threaded environment, you should use a few processes and many threads, for example, 4 or 8 processes and 128 or 512 threads per process.
    MaxProcs (Unix/Linux)
    Use this directive to set your Unix/Linux server in multi-process mode, which may allow for higher scalability on multi-processor machines. If you set the value to less than 1, it will be ignored and the default value of 1 will be used.
    Tuning
    You can set the value for MaxProcs by:
    Editing the MaxProcs parameter in magnus.conf
    Setting or changing the MaxProcs value in the Magnus Editor of the Server Manager
    Note      You will receive duplicate startup messages when running your server in MaxProcs mode.
    *** end quote
    If it is not relevant anymore please explane.
    I am still interested to understand which of the SessionManagers is recommended by Sun to have optimal performance for sites with high number of sessions and using threads. It is not really obvious from http://docs.sun.com/source/817-6251/pwasessn.html. On top of this that's documented just for V6.1. What about V6.0?
    Thank you very much for your cooperation!

  • ACME video on Java Web Server 2.0

    ACME video was fairly easy to get running using the built in web server provided with JDeveloper 3.0. Things got a bit more difficult when I tried to deploy the web application portion to Java Web Server 2.0.
    Here's what I had to do to get it to work...
    1. The acmevideo_deploy.properties file must be copied independently to the JWS2.0 root directory. If an attempt to access the site fails indicating that this file could not be found, you should place it in whatever directory contains the file acmepropfile_loc.txt. The program is designed to write this file out to help you locate where the properties file should go. Too bad there is no mention of this in the docs!
    2. The imageURL property should be set to imageURL=/acmevideo/images/ for the image files to be found by the html generated by servlets. This value is set in the acmevideo_deploy.properties file mentioned above.
    3. Similarly, the webAppURL propery should set to point to the JWS2.0 server location. For example, on my system it's webAppURL=http://localhost:8080/servlet/WebAppServlet
    4. The following EJB jar files located in <JDEVELOPER>/samples/acmevideo/ejb/server must be added to the c:/acmedir directory and referenced in the CLASSPATH set in the batch file created and used to execute the web server.
    EJBGeneratedRentals.jar
    EJBGeneratedTitleQueries.jar
    EJBSourceRentals.jar
    EJBSourceTitleQueries.jar
    5. The jsdk.jar file that is referenced in the CLASSPATH and which you are directed to copy into acmedir is not required and does not reside in the location specified.
    Hope this helps anyone trying to get the sample running in all of its <ahem> glory. :-) Looks like a good sample app to base a project on if you aren't ready for J2EE or your application platform doesn't fully support the specification.

    There is no need to install OAS or Oracle8i to test the servlet/jsp functionality in JDeveloper 3.0. You might want to check to insure that you installed all available components during installation (a few of them are hidden and you must scroll down to select them). Try running a few of the servlet/jsp samples before moving on to the full ACME video sample.
    Hope this helps,

  • Web Server on Windows XP?

    I need to write a servlet to provide SQL data for a cell phone. I've written a J2ME app to access text from the web, but I know nothing about the other end. Do I have to install a whole new OS like Linux, or is there software that will run under XP as a web server?

    sultal writes:
    If you wish to go for Webserver + Tomcat option you should opt for Apache + Tomcat as they are produced
    by the same crowd and work well together.
    I would personally go for one peace of software to do the job, rather than 2. Sun's appserver(platform
    edition is free) or webserver would work well - you won't need Tomcat with those.OK, I uninstalled Tomcat and installed the appserver. Then I did a search on "writing servlets" and found:
    http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/Programming/BasicJava1/servlet.html
    At the top of the page it says you need Tomcat and gives a link for downloading Tomcat.
    So now I'm confused. I guess this is referring to J2SE only and not the Application Server environment?
    chilideveloper writes:
    you might wanna try the Net Beans mobile edition from http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/download.php?type=5
    .0Already got it. But while we're on the subject, is there anything else I need to download to get NetBeans to write an SQL servlet? (Such as the way I had to download the Mobility Pack to write the cell phone client.)
    After this , you can decide any one of the following
    - use Sun Java System Web Server 6.1
    - use tomcat alone OK, so now I'm confused again, do I or don't I need Tomcat? What is the difference between Web Server 6.1 and Application Server 8.2?
