Running Mac 10.5.8 with Firefox 3.0.6, want to update, get message 'I do not have sufficient priviledges to complete...', where do I find offending folder without priviledges?

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8. Firefox 3.0.6 is installed. When I try to update I get a message saying that I do not have sufficient priviledges to complete part of the operation. I take that to mean a folder containing part of the application Firefox is read only rather than read and write. I know how to change that but I've looked at the obvious Firefox folder but don't know where else to look for the offending folder.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
* Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • I have created a slide show with pictures and music in Iphoto and when I try export it I get Error You do not have sufficient permission for this operation.

I have created a slide show with pictures and music in Iphoto and when I try export it I get Error You do not have sufficient permission for this operation.  Try to export to an external HD attached, all help would be gratefully received

Have you ever successfully saved anything to that external drive? My first two thoughts are that the drive isn't formatted for the Mac or that you don't have rights to save to the drive.

  • How do I resolve this with InDesign CC?"Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you may not have sufficient permission to access the preferences folders. Try deleting the perferences folders and then restart Adobe Indesign"

This message pops up when I try to launch InDesign CC.
I tried deleting preferences by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-ALT,
and deleted preferences from there but the same problem still occurs.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but problem still here... can anybody help me
Tech support directed me to Configuration error 16 | CC, CS, but I wasn't able to find "Adobe PCD" folder. So I'm stuck. Please help!

It's a permissions problem on two folders in your user Library on Mac, or in your User Profile on PC.
I believe renaming the InDesign folders in the two locations will cause them to be re-written correctly when you relaunch. For the locations, (which are HIDDEN folders) see Replace Your Preferences
You must show hidden files and folders to see them.

  • I have an older mac running 10.4.11. When I try to update to firefox 3.6.28 I get an error message: "...you do not have sufficient privileges..."

Currently running firefox 3.0.4. I downloaded 3.6.28 successfully. When I tried to install it by sliding the firefox icon over onto the applications icon I got a message saying an item named firefox already exists and do I want to replace it with the newer one I am moving. I clicked "replace." Then I get a message saying that the operation cannot be completed because I do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items. How can I complete this install?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
*Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Why do we run into stupid basic problems with firefox?

I have jre1.6_u31 installed on a Windows 7 and the brilliant
firefox keep tell me that I've to install the jre_1.6_u29 missing plugin when I try to run an applet...a simple applet!! The plugin doesn't appear on add-ons manager then i use "check your plugins" and the stupid response is: "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version."
Running an applet is basic! Why are u making new versions when older ones are better? I' m sick of running into this stupid problems with firefox! Everything works on ie, chrome and safari but not on Firefox!
I' m sick of trying to solve firefox basic problems!
We have a site that has one thousand ore more visits per day...and we only have troubles with firefox! What do I tell the costumers? I' m not going to give them solutions difficult and confusing as usually your solutions are! They are common people not developers as me...they just want the things to work! I gave up and the solution that I give to them now is to stop using firefox and uninstall it. And people ask I chrome is becoming the second most used browser...here is your answer...
I' m a developer and I've to develop I don't have the time patiente to trying solving basic firefox problems. If you don't know how to solve the problems then stop developing this and save us the headaches.

Have you updated Java lately? You say you have jre1.6_u31 installed, but "Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U31" is not showing in the Plugins submitted with your question (click "More system details" to the right of your original question post). To enable, Add-ons > Plugins, and enable the item.
If your OS is 64-bit and you have 32-bit browsers (Firefox) and 64-bit browsers installed, then you need to install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Java.

You can try to repair the permissions for the Firefox application files and folders.
    You can also do this:
    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.

Hi Everyone.  I have an old Mac Book with software updated to 10.6.8.  I have saved a ton of emails in my inbox 'On My Mac'.  There are so many it is slowing down my computer.  Where do I find the folder with all the emails so I can cut and paste them to an external hard drive? Pls.help.  Tks.

Depending on which email client software you use
the files should be in 'your home folder' library, esp.
if you use Mail application.... ~/Library/Mail
Since you don't specify what mail application,
that would most be associated with the file.
I notice there are some items to the right of your post
where it says "more like this' so that may be worth a
look to see if similar issues were answered. Also, the
Help viewer in your system is a searchable database.
Seems that google also brings up fair information, too.
Do you have a complete bootable clone of your entire
Mac system on an externally enclosed hard disk drive?
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I'm having a lot of issues with firefox and cannot figure out how to get help. It began when I updated to 13. I get all kinds of ad popups, I cannot play one

I'm having a lot of issues with firefox and cannot figure out how to get help. It began when I updated to 13. I get all kinds of ad popups, I cannot play one game on FaceBook called Farm Town at all, and I keep getting an AVG popup about cookies that I cannot get rid of. These issues are causing me to use Chrome very often even though I like Fox better. I've searched and searched how to get help and cannot find anything. How does one get personal technical help?? These issues do not happen in Chrome at all. Thanks.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

  • I want to upgrade, when I download I don't get to point where I'm to drag icon into image of app. folder. I find it on desktop , when I drag it over it replys with " Do not have sufficient privilage for some of these items" I have a Mac.

I want to upgrade firefox, when I download I don't get to the point whre I drag icon into the image of Application folder. I can find it on my desktop and when I drag it over it replies "Do not have sufficient privilages for some of the items" I use a Mac.

The version you are currently using, Firefox 3.6.13, is the latest version of Firefox for OS X 10.4
If you are trying to use the Firefox 4 betas, they require at least OS X 10.5. There is a third-party version of Firefox 4 beta that works on OS X 10.4, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

  • Time Machine with two computers - "You do not have sufficient access privileges"

I am currently running an Intel-based iMac at home and was recently given a new Intel-based MacBook Pro to use for work.  The iMac at home is running Leopard and the MacBook is running Snow Leopard.  After I loaded all of the necessary files from the home computer to the work computer (using the files on my external that I use for time machine backups), I decided to use the same external hard drive to use as the Time Machine for both computers.  However, now whenever I try to access the Time Machine Backups from the opposite computer, I am told that I "do not have sufficient access privleges."  E.g., when I try to open the TM MacBook files on the iMac or vice versa, I recieve this message.  Opening the files that were backed up on the same computer is no problem.
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

kabbydriver- No, no, no, no no! Do not screw around with permissions on the sparse bundle or the mounted disk image. Dude, this is the third bad advice from you I've read in the last hour. Isn't it enough that one of your responses violated the forum terms of use and had to be deleted? It's time to give it a rest; come back another day.
UCOdoublebass- You need to create a different Time Machine backup for each Mac. Two Macs cannot backup to the same Time Machine backup image. Read this to get started learning about your options:

  • When I try to load a newer version of firefox I get the error message "you don't have sufficient permissions to load firefox" from firefox. How do I get them?

have firefox 3.0.10 on my Mac with OS X .5.6 I can download the latest version of firefox, 7.0.1 dmg. I can open that and get a drive on the desktop. I am the only user and system administrator. How can I not have sufficient privileges? but when I drag the firefox program to the applications folder I always get this message from the firefox program. "you don't have sufficient privileges to open firefox" What is going wrong to prevent me from updating my firefox?

    See:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

I keep trying to download newest version of Firefox but when I try to move it into applications I get the error message that I cannot do this because "I do not have sufficient privelelges" and then I can go no further. I do not know any more.

  • When I try to upgrade to the newer version of Firefox, this is the message I get (I am using OS 10.4.11): The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.

I have recently dropped Earthink as me dial-up provider. I now am using Virgin Mobile Broadband2GO. I was using Safari. I am now using Yahoo! Mail Plus. It suggested I switch to Firefox. I had an older version of Firefox (2.0.0.6) and started using it. It suggested I needed to upgrade because many of the newer web sites wouldn't work well on this older version. I downloaded the newer version and proceeded with the installation and it would tell me this: '''The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.''' I have re-downloaded and tried it again two more times. I haven't a clue what that means or what to do about it.
