Running mail server on Worker Role

I'm trying to use a Worker role to setup an SMTP server.  I used Visual Studio to provision the worker role, assigned a ReservedIP address to it, setup ReverseDNS, and specified an inputendpoint for SMTP on port 25.
Question, when you specify an InputEndpoint, does it poke a hole in the firewall of the VM? Or does it assign that to the WorkerRole application?  I wanted to use a Web Service instead of a regular VM to install an SMTP server, but I'm not having any
luck.  I installed SmarterMail on the Worker Role service and cannot get port 25 to respond for Smartermail.  It sends mail just fine, but is blocked for inbound SMTP.
Any ideas?

Hi,
 Thanks for Posting.
Yes, Input Endpoints enable External Traffic to be load balanced to your Web/Worker Role VM  through the Firewall.

  • Mail will not show new emails on my Mac Air but sends OK. Mail server is working

    Hello
As I said above, Mail will not show new emails on my Mac Air but sends mails OK. The Mail server is working because my iPad is receiving and displaying incoming messages.
    Your advice is most welcome.
    Thanks!

Thunderbird successfully displays all of my e-mail accounts in the list of accounts and displays all of the inboxes correctly however it doesn't display the e-mails at my newest address in the unified inbox. To see them, I have to click on that particular e-mail accounts inbox. In every way, this account appears to be set up the same as the all the other ones. The newest e-mail account is a second account through Zoho. What do you think is the problem?

  • TS2621 why my outgoing mail server not working after ios 6 upgraded

why my outgoing mail server not working after ios 6 upgraded

Ask your carrier to send you the settings over wifi and then install them that way.
I'm on giffgaff and I used the giffgaff app from the store to sort this out.
Overall though I must say Apple has let itself down on this as why isn't something written in the ios script that keeps the original settings??
Very Poor indeed and I held off using Apple products for years for this very reason!!

  • My incoming mail server stopped working for the 3rd time Help?

This is the third time my incoming mail server stopped working any suggestions on how to repair this?
    Thank You!

If Apple replaced the logic board three times for the same issue, and the third board has now broken for the same reason, you may be able to ask Apple for a replacement machine. You're out of warranty, and Apple is under no obligation to do anything for you (unless the current logic board was replaced by Apple less than 90 days ago in which case it's still under warranty), however, as a good will gesture, they may be willing to exchange your system for another one. You can start at the Apple store or call Apple customer care directly.

mail is a trickier than that.
do you have DNS working ?
do you have a Globally unique or NATed address from your ISP ?
Is there a DNS MX record pointing to that IP for your domain.
    is your domain registered.
if you've answered yes to all of these. go to your log folder and tail your logs.
    tail -f /var/log/mail.log
also postconf -n , and post it.
if your running a mail server the gui is nice for simple things. but managing the system with take some use of the terminal.

  • Adelphia outgoing mail server not working

I have been trying for the last week or so to get my adelphia mail to send from Mail. I can receive mail no problem, but the outgoing mail server does not work. I have the settings as such:
    outgoing server: mail.adelphia.net
server port: 587 (also tried 25)
    SSL: off
    Password: none
The error that I get is that port 587 times out. When I switch it to port 25 I get "This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail Preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator."
I made sure my password is correct in keychain as well.
When I run a tracer route to find the ISP I get " gig2-1.clmascspv-rtr1.sc.rr.com, cable6-cha.edge.aol.com, son4-1-2.rlghncrdc-rtr3.nc.rr.com " as #2, 3, 4. I have tried to use these servers, but with no success.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
I get 100% success pinging mail.adelphia.net, and if at your home venue where Adelphia is your ISP, then I think no separate Authentication is required. Port 25 would be the proper port. However, if you are not at home, and the provider of internet connection limits you to using only authenticated SMTP then you would not able to use mail.adelphia.net as the Outgoing Server.
Are you at the venue where Adelphia is the ISP?

  • Incoming mail server not working

Suddenly and for no reason, my Mac mail isn't working on my desktop.  Still works on my ipad and iphone though.  I see in account preferences that there is no "incoming mail server" written in the space but it won't let me write one in.

  • Running mail server, should I use VPN or just public IP?

Hey everyone this might be a dumb question but here's my setup. I have Leopard Server at my office, and a static ip address there for my Internet. I've set up VPN as well and I can VPN in from my home using my MacBook, or using my XP based laptop.
Right now the ports for mail are closed, so if I try to add an email account on my blackberry, or on my PC using the static ip, it doesn't find the ip which is fine. Once I'm VPN'd in though, if I add a mail server "10.0.0.25" which is my server IP, it adds it fine.
Here's my question, the setup above is what I'm used to with my corporate job. To get my email from home I VPN in, then load my email. I don't mind having to do this, but what are the benefits/disadvantages here? I'm trying to figure out how I would set up my blackberry without BIS since I'm a small business of 3 employees.
If I leave the ports for mail open, and just set up my blackberry to my static ip as well as my email client, is that a huge security risk?

If your mail server is configured properly, it's not a huge security risk to allow external clients to connect - the vast majority of email servers on the internet are already configured this way and there are much bigger targets than you.
Things to check are that you're not running as an open relay - meaning you don't accept mail from just anyone and send it on. Your mail server should only accept mail from local clients (i.e. machines in the office) or from connections that authenticate. This will prevent some spammer trying to bounce bogus emails through your mail server, and it's pretty easy to setup given the options in Server Admin.

  • Me outgoing mail server not working from iPhone / Reply to email address

Hi, I have MM sent up on my iPhone and Mac, the SMTP outgoing mail server does not work from the iPhone but does from the Mac, to get around this I changed the outgoing server on the iPhone to my optusnet outgoing server, that has been working fine, the problem I have is if someone reply's to a email from the phone it gets bounced back becuase the reply to email address for me is @mac.com not from @me.com
I have tried to change the reply to email address in the phone but it only allows you to change the name not the @mac.com
I have only ever had a Me account not a .Mac account so I dont know why its locked to @mac

I deleted the MM account on the phone and reinstalled it again. Now it is working.

  • Suddenly outgoing mail server not working!

Out of nowhere, I am all of a sudden having problems with my outgoing mail servers. Most of my email accounts are through AOL, so based on which screen name I am emailing from, the outgoing server as always been smtp.aol.com:username. But lately, when sending mail, I get the drop down "try a different outgoing mail server warning. My internet service is through Comcast, so if I change the outgoing mail server to smtp.comcast.com, the mail will send. But why has this problem popped up? Did Comcast change something? AOL? Thanks for any help anyone has!

I have got a similar problem. Mail has never worked properly - I can receive emails but not send them, Although the data for the smtp-server is absolutely correct and so is all rest password etc. - I've also tried other ports but they didn't work either. It can't be my computer or some firewall because Entourage, the microsoft mail-programme works perfectly well. After having had constant trouble with my PC, I bought this mac 2 months ago - and now I'm having more problems. Is there anyone who can give me a hint of what to do? Thanks.
