Running TestStand without write access to CFG directory?

We've just set up Windows XP user (i.e. not administrator) accounts on our test system for use by the operators.  Whenever our operator interface opens a sequence, we get the following message:
Could Not Create Temporary File
Error writing to file 'C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 3.5\Cfg\TestExec.ini
NOTE: This error can occur when writing files in the TestStand configuration directory if you do not have permissions to create or write files in that directory.  To fix the problem, you can either change the settings on the coniguration directory, or change the location of the configuration directors on the Preferences page of the Station Options dialog.
Unable to save the changes to the TestStand configuration.
TestStand will not display this message again for errors saving this file during this session.
Two suggested workarounds are given in the error message itself.  Both of these solutions involve giving the operator write access to the Cfg directory.
My question is this - should it be necessary to give the operator write access to the cfg directory?  I would instinctively prefer to give them read-only access, as at present.  There shouldn't be any reason for the operators to need to change anything, indeed it is vastly preferable that the configuration never changes.
Is there some unusual reason why TestStand needs to access this directory in our case, or does it always attempt to write to this file when a sequence is opened?  Execution of our sequences works fine beyond this point, so there obviously isn't any real need to write to these files.
I would like to know whether there is a way to keep the CFG directory read-only but prevent this dialog from appearing, as it is alarming for the operators.  Is there something I can do to either:
 - Stop TestStand from attempting to write to the CFG directory
or:
 - Stop it from displaying this dialog when it finds that it has read-only access
To replicate this problem, just set up a new Windows XP user and start TestStand.  The message will then appear as soon as a sequence is loaded.  Although it sometimes doesn't - I haven't yet been able to work out the logic of when and why it appears.

That I know of TestStand will try to update at least the last user (I think this is the stationglobals) and the MostRecentlyUsed adapter files & SearchDirectories (In TestExec.ini)...  I guess this answer the first question and I have no idea about the second one so I keep a backup of my CFG folder under revision control. I also have moved the original location of my CFG folder so that it does never conflict with the original content in ..\ProgramFiles\N..I...\T...S...3.5\Cfg

  • Write access to a directory for ASP 2.0 application stops working on Windows 2012 Standard Cloud Server

Just moved our ASP 2.0 based web application to a Windows 2012 Standard Cloud Server.  A directory is used for temporary copying of files for the application.  The Read Write access is properly given and everything works but then stops working
in about 2.5 hours.  The settings are still there, to make things work again typically I add "Everyone" to the security list and apply and then 3 hours later I remove "Everyone" and this refreshes the security setting and things work
againg for a couple of hours.  Last Cloud server was 2008 R2 and we had no issues.  Recently moved to this new cloud server.  Code has been functioning fine for years and can not migrate it to newer ASP since will have to make quite a few code
changes.  Obviously a bug which needs to be addressed.  Again the security settings do not disappear but are no longer handled properly every 3 hours or so.

    Hi,
Is there any other files have the same issue? Please create a test folder and give the same permissions with the directory for ASP 2.0 application to see if the issue still exists.

  • How to allow users to run infopackage without giving access to Workbench

    Hi,
I have certain infopackages which I want to give access to users to run. It mainly relates to loading of flat files which they want to be able to execute when they want and also loading the P&L  data from R/3.
I am on 3.5..I don't want the users to have access to do anything else on the Admin workebench.
what is the best way? Is there a program or tcode which I can give access to the users where they specify the infopackage name and run it.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Create a role in transaction pfcg. Goto authorization tab-> change authorization data-> manual entry of authorization objects -> give the standard authorization object 's_rs_admwb'.
This autho-object is for protecting DWWB objects.
Inside this object , you will have option 'data warehouse workbench object' . Click change.. select 'infopackage'. In the activity you can give options display and execute. Save the authorization and generate profile. In the user tab, give the user ids of those who need to execute the infopackage. This should work exactly for your requirement..

  • Req for moderators: Need FTP write access to websp...

My step-father has a website hosted at http://www.btinternet.com/~philip.martin8/ A few days ago, I FTPed into the webspace to make some changes. I uploaded the new files and the old ones got over-written, but the new ones did not get uploaded. Going to the website now just shows an empty directory listing.
Could a moderator possibly give his FTP account (philip.martin8) write access to that directory? The website is used for our family business, so it's quite important to us.
    Thanks very much.

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
May I ask if your step father is still a BTinternet user ? The usual reason files get removed from the website when uploading is due to the account being a "basic" only one, after say a person has ceased their service.
A basic only account has no webspace allowance, however if the account was previously a "normal" one, then that's why it had space. If the webspace was untouched, it would still function - however any changes, as you've seen, will delete them.
You can check is the account is a basic only one by going to my shortcuts options 12b, and logging in using your step father's email address as the Yahoo! ID and the associated password. Look under Product to see what it says.

  • Access to SCCM Reporting service without Console access.

    Hi,
Is there any way to give a AD Group or a user rights to run reports without giving access to open the sccm console?
    Regards,
    B

It seems like this guides is not valid because the user can run the reports but not able to see any data. This is discussed in posts also. We need to remove the Access to the console, run reports and also see data.
Exactly what rights did you give you security role?

  • Execute Teststand as windows-user: which files needed for write-access

    Hello,
which files/directories do i have to set for write access?
    Normally windows-administrator can access everything.
But a windows-user has for example no write-acces to teststand\Cfg.
So sometimes i get the error-message that a file is write protected.
Is this somewhere explained in the TS-documentation that also a windows-user need write-access? I have this question from a client and i am not sure how exactly it is.
    Thx for info

    Hi OnlyOne,
With TestStand 4.1 and later, we changed the directories for the TestStand Cfg folder and the TestStand Public folder (formerly called the TestStand Users Directory). These changes allow a normal Windows-User to write to the TestStand Cfg and Public folders without having to specifically grant write permissions.

  • NFS write access without local user

    Hi,
I try to get write access to NFS from one to another linux system without local user account and group.
    System 1. /etc/exports -->set nfs share /backup
Folder /backup all files owned by oracle:oinstall
    oracle(104):oinstall(106) 664
    System 2. user: root(1):root(1)
    #>mount -t nfs .....
All files are owned by userid 104 and groupid 106
I can get write access If I change userid and group id on system 2 to 104/106 but I think that could be smart way.
Does anyone know the right was to get write access without have a same local user(id) and group(id)
    Thanks
    *T

You can try the following in your /etc/exports file:
    /backup   *(rw,insecure,all_squash,anonuid=104,anongid=106)
Then reload the exports file using the command "service nfs reload"The above will allow rw access to the /backup directory and map all requests to the nobody account and remap the nobody account uid and guid to 104 and 106 of the nfs server system. The insecure option is required by some PCNFS clients. For more detailed information please check the exports man page.

  • "Check that you have permission to write to the library directory." I had this error pop up when trying to access a iPhoto Library from Finder.

The error, "Check that you have permission to write to the library directory." Displayed after trying to access a iPhoto Library from finder. The file is located on the local hard drive and was accessed not 5 minutes before the error displayed. Upon searching the forums I found a similar problem and the instructions said to check a permission box in the "Get Info" tab. There was no box visible and after clicking the arrow to open the "Open With" tab, the rainbow wheel started to spin and I could no longer access Finder or the desktop. I was deleting files trying to make space on my hard drive and noticed as I was deleting files more data was being added to the iPhoto Library. My question is how can I fix this and how can I prevent this in the future, thank you very much for any help, I would really like to keep these pictures.

I found a similar problem and the instructions said to check a permission box in the "Get Info" tab.
This applies only when the Library is on an external drive. You cannot ignore permissions on the system drive.
I was deleting files trying to make space on my hard drive
    What were you deleting?
and noticed as I was deleting files more data was being added to the iPhoto Library.
Hard to see how deleting files can add data to the iPhoto Library. Can you explain why you thought this?
I would really like to keep these pictures.
    Make a back up now.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • Why do we need write access to Java installation Directory

We are Upgrading from Siebel Analytics 7.8 to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
As OBIEE needs Java 1.5 or higher as a pre-requisite we are planning to uninstall Java 1.4 and install latest version of Java 1.5.
According to OBI Installation and Configuration Guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/b31765.pdf -> Page 39 "If you are installing using the Basic installation type, make the user or user group permissions
writable for the user installing Oracle Business Intelligence, for all JDK 1.5.0 installation directories,
subdirectories, and files". Can anybody let me know why we need write access to Java Installation Directory??
    Thanks,

I had this same question and asked Oracle. Here's what I was told:
    Per Dev:
"For OBI Presentation Services and OBI Publisher, jdk fonts files are copied into the JDK location because we do not bundle our own JDK. To ensure the install can do this you need to ensure that the Oracle BI installer has permissions to copy files to the specified JDK location.
This means that if the same user who installer/untarred JDK is also installing Oracle BI, the install should work. In this case the the permissions of the JDK is probably 755.
It will not work if a root user installs JDK and a normal user installs Oracle BI because the normal user does not have access to write to the JDK location or will not work if the JDK location is read-only, i.e. 444. In this case running chmod -R 777 will work."

  • You Do Not Have Write Access to the Output Directory

I get the message shown in the title when I try to create a HTTP Streaming file using "Share" in FCP X.  I have run "Permission Repair" and given everyone access to read and write in "Get Info."
I am the "Admin".  How come I can't have access to the directory?

I have this problem too along with not being able write access after sending a file to Compressor from FCP.  Any resolutions for this?  Every folder has write access.

  • Credential Roaming failed to write to the Active Directory. Error code 5 (Access is denied.)

    Hi All,
I could see following error event in all client computers , Could you please some one help me on this ?
    Log Name:      Application
    Source:
    Microsoft-Windows-CertificateServicesClient-CredentialRoaming
    Event ID:      1005
    Level:         Error
Description: Certificate Services Client: Credential Roaming failed to  write to the Active Directory. Error code 5 (Access is denied.)
    Regards, Srinivasu.Muchcherla

If you are not using certificates and Credential Roaming for clients then simply ignore the error message.
If you are using certificates then you are getting access denied message when Credential Roaming is trying to write to your AD. More details about Credential Roaming here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2009/01/06/certs-on-wheels-understanding-credential-roaming.aspx

  • How to read and write data from Excel to TestStand without using LabVIEW VIs

    Hi,
How can I read in columns of data from Excel into a TestStand array and write columns of data to Excel from TestStand without using LabVIEW VIs?
I don't think the Property Loader custom step type in TestStand will work because the data I would like to read in from Excel is in a column that is thousands of rows long and the data has to be in the proper format to use the Property Loader to load in an array from Excel.
    Thanks for your help.

That example does not use LabVIEW and it does about 40% of what you need to do by calling Excel through ActiveX. If you don't know how to use Excel through ActiveX then you'll need to brush up on that.
