Runtime Loading of SWCs from Flash?

Hi,
In Flex, there is a RSL that can be used at runtime and there can be several flex applications using (loading) the same single RSL.
I want to know if is there any way to do the samething with SWCs in Flash? I actually have different kind of designs (flash) and all those use exactly same code. I want to make a SWC of that code and then want to load this single SWF at runtime from different flash files.
Please guide me in this regard? Is there any possibility of this approach? If not, then what would be the best way to do that?

you can see the 3 tests but only 1 live at any given attempt of course.
the 1st test is the one i care about as it is a data driven wcf test against an amazon ec2 cloud instance with sql server. the wcf server and sql are on that box whereas the html that gets your there is elsewhere from a different host but the crossdomains are set up fine. click on wide receivers and Memory or DB. brings back data from sql server.
The *native* Flex 4 version of it is sitting here that is not called up from a Flash swf loader and it works fine:

when test 1 is loaded from a Flash website it generates this error:
you can see myList at the far right that shows it receives the swf load attempt and the 2 events at systemManagerHandler. This pretty much blows up anything that follows.
Test 2 is a new simple FB4 build with a label and button. that is it. it generates a different error but at least trying to see if there is some issue with just wcf or rpc from test 1 that would not occur here. It too shows the same 3 events in the debug listbox. Debug meaning a release versions using Listbox.addItem(). It runs fine at http://www.teamvisionboston.com/site2/asdf.html
unless of course like i said you load it from Flash.
Test 3 is the current live version up there at

that loads a generic swf. It of course gets the first load debug message but because it is not from Flex not the last 2. And that works.
so I am at a loss.

Is it possible to link with a swc (from the flash app, for the assets) into a swf (from flascc)?

After getting a reply for a similar question (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1134928?tstart=0), I've ended up with the following pipeline:
C++ code -> FlasCC -> code.swc
AS3 code + 3rd party .swc's -> Flex -> as3code.swc
Main.as (console) + code.swc + as3code.swc -> Flex -> final.swf
Seems to be working now. So I suppose using an existing .swc on step 2 should work fine too.

Runtime loading of swc files, possible ?

what about runtime loading of external SWC asset libraries? Is there anyway of adding the SWC to the build path, but changing ‘merged into code’ to ‘external’ in order to have access to the library definitions when developing but without the library being compiled into your swf?

Calling flex functions from flash swf (AS3)

Hi all, i'm stuck with communication between loaded AS3 SWF
from Flash and Flex3 project. I use SWFLoader for runtime loading
SWF, call functions inside SWF, but cannot find the way to call
functions declared in Flex project. I try to use ExternalInterface
class, but it does not help me, or maybe i use it incorrect. Is
there a method to call Flex user declared functions from Flash SWF?
All i need is a syntax sample, thank you in advance!

Also, application.application will point to the top-level app
scope, even from a loaded swf.
I believe parentApplication will resolve to what you usually
want as well.
For looser coupling, consider using a bubbling event.

Can access c++ library from flash action script by using SWC lib?

We want to develope a Flash application based on Windows CE 6.0 R3. The application aims to communicate with middleware libraries written in C/C++. Is it possible to create SWC file using the c++ library file so that we can load this as a component in fla project for accessing the library functions from flash action script 3.0? OR Is there any simple way to access c++ library from action script?

I don't think Alchemy will help you. The reason is Alchemy does not give socket capabilities beyond what Flash provides.

Can I load xml file from SWC without using @embed

I'm developing a mobile application in which I need to load xml files from File.applicationDirectory. This works great if the xml files are part of the main application swf. But I would like to move these xml files into a SWC so they could be shared across multiple applications.
Using FlashBuilder 4.5, when a SWC is built, I can specify files to embed in the library that are not assets (Assets Tab of Flex Library Build Path). For various design reasons, I do NOT want to embed the xml files via @embed.
When the swc is built and I open it up using a zip utility, I see the xml files in there just fine. So they are being bundled with the SWC. But how can I load these files in my main application that does not involve using @embed? When the main application is built, the swc setting for link type is "merged into code".
I wouldn't expect the application to automatically pull out the xml files from the swc and place them in the File.applicationDirectory on the mobile device. I've tried loading from there just in case but file.exists is false (as expected).
I've searched the web (and continue to do so) and all the answers seem to be to use @embed. Is there another way?

It's actually a lot easier than you think.
Just reference the file like any'ol URL using a path relative to the SWC's src directory.
So if you include the file "assets/xml/some.xml", just use that same string like you would any remote resource.
For example:
var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader( new URLRequest("assets/xml/some.xml"));
I believe it would also work like this "/assets/xml/some.xml", but I prefer relative paths so the link doesnt break if moved out of the SWC...

Importing anything (swf, swc, etc) compiled from Flash CS5.5 into FB 4.5 throws Errors

I'm using FB 4.5 with sdk 4.1.0.16076.
I've tried importing an swc file, using the "convert symbol to flex component" command and it throws a VerifyError: Error #1053: Illegal override.
I've tried just compiling an swf and embedding it in a Flex compoent, again i get a VerifyError: Error #1053: Illegal override.
I've tried changing a number of compile settings in Flash CS5.5 but with no luck.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this error?

the swc is Illegal override of FTETextFieldHostFormat in FTETextField.as$134.FTETextFieldHostFormat.
these errors seem arbitrary, since the first time i loaded an swc i got a different Illegal override error regarding some kind of CSS object that i can't remember.
i have read other threads that indicate this problem may occur when compiling objects using different SDKs in the same project. Does Flash CS5.5 compiled objects need to be imported to the 4.5 sdk maybe? (i'm using sdk 4.1).

Help loading an image from photoshop into flash..

I have a script written that will take an image open in photoshop, save a copy of it (as a jpeg), and I want to
open that file in a new flash window that I open. The property app.activeDocument.full name does not actually return
the full name, it returns "~/Desktop/Pictures/fileName.jpg", instead of "C:/Users/me/Desktop/Pictures/fileName.jpg".
I know I can do an image import from flash, but I would rather pass the information directly to the flash.
How can I pass the absolute file path to the flash from photoshop?

app.activeDocument.fullName.fsName will get you the full path to the file but if the document has not been saved it will throw an error.

How do I use a Flex swc in Flash CS3?

My engineering team has used Flex to create a nice little swc
for me to use inside of Flash CS3, but now I'm having trouble
finding any documentation on how to actually import it. Placing it
in the Components folder doesn't work, as it's not recognized by
the Components window (either as an AS2 or AS3 swc). Is it even
possible to use swcs from Flex in Flash? Thank you very much for

Since upgrading to CS6, fxg exports from flash are missing elements, is there a fix?

With CS5.5 I could export vector art from Flash and open it in illustrator. Now with CS6 I cant do that without breaking everything apart if flash first. This can cause masks to be lost and is a lenghty and complicated process. If I don't break everthing apart not all the layers are imported on the fxg when opened in illustrator. Does anyone know of a solution for this?

It does work if I go into the group and then export (or break everything apaprt so they are no longer in groups). Some files I work with have loads of grouped elements with layer masks making it very complex to break apart and export as fxg. Previous versions allowed export in one step, I could then unlock layers or show hidden layers in the illustrator file. The masks would be imported too.

I am new to weblogic. I am encountering an error on trying to run the 'servicegen' command from my ant build scripts, on weblogic 9.2.

LoadVars-using send to pass a variable from flash to php

For the life of me, I've tried everything:
I've researched LoadVars on Adobe forum, used David Powers'
books, googled 'flash to php', LoadVars, etc. and tried
sendAndLoad, send, and using $_POST, $_GET, $_REQUEST.

Print a webpage direct from flash

hi all i have input text field that the user type a number EX

and when he click the send button the browser open the page

and if not exist a message to the user said to him that

because it is touch screen and i know the default printer

you can load an html page into flash and assign it to a
html-enabled textfield but only the most basic tags can be handled
by flash.
in addition, any graphics used won't be displayed (unless the
html page is in the same directory as the swf's embedding html

How to diagnose flickering exported JS animations from Flash CC?

I'm not experiencing an error so much as a lack of understanding about how to diagnose Flash CC JS export issues. Here's the backstory:
In 2012, my company started working with an contract sprite artist. I was using the CS5.5 Creative Suite, and we were exporting normal png sequences from Flash for use in the game. After about 8 months, my cofounders and I realized that we could both reduce the load time for the game and also allow our artwork to be dynamically scalable by switching to JS exports of our art rather than the raster sprite sheets. At the time, I didn't have Flash CC, and was reliant upon the CreateJS plugin to export the required JS files: CreateJS Developer Center | Adobe Developer Connection After another month or so, our contractor upgraded their version of Flash and we started having compatibility issues reading FLA files, so I upgraded as well. After doing some reading, I concluded that the CreateJS plugin was now incorporated into Flash CC as the HTML5 doc type, which was confirmed when I checked out the publish settings and resulting files.
This is all a rather long winded way of saying that we have legacy artwork created with an older version of Flash but are now importing all of our artwork from JS files.
Fast forward to today and we have two big issues:
1) We can't figure out how to reduce the filesize of JS exports. As discussed in our blog post, vector artwork has upsides and downsides. One of the downsides we've found is that complex art that uses a lot of shapes ends up being substantially larger (in terms of filesize) than the appearance might otherwise suggest. Raster exports skirt this because a pixel is a pixel, but vector exports scale with the complexity of the source FLA. I'm not a Flash expert, and when we get files that are particularly complex, Flash either runs out of memory exporting them to JS files or we get files that are far too large to reasonably use. To be clear, the "out of memory" error isn't a problem because even if Flash finished the export, the resulting files would be too large for us to use (plus, I've done some digging and found a tutorial for correcting the out of memory error). Our artist is not familiar with the intricacies of the JS Flash exporter, so when we get a file that's too big or breaks the export, neither of us can really figure out a way to correct the problem. We have three questions in particular:
     a) Where can you view shape data that Flash is going to write to the JS files?
     b) Is there any way to edit said shape data inside the Flash CC interface?
     c) Is there any way to optimize shape data in Flash? For instance, in Photoshop, you can flatten images and export a psd with 500 layers as a single JPEG, is there any way to do something similar to shape data in Flash?
2) Exports frequently break in weird ways. Many of the sprites that we created a year ago haven't needed to be re-imported into our game engine for some time. But every once in a while, I need to go back and fix, improve, or tweak an existing sprite, and then I run smack into the issue of reconciling files that were created without thought to JS exports with our current system. Just last week I was running into this issue in a big way and I made a screencast for our artist (since we work remotely) that I hoped might give him a better idea of the problem: Flash Errors - Treasure Chest, Flippable Tile - YouTube
The two files mentioned in that screencast are both old (treasure chest) and new (flippable land tile). We have a few questions:
     a) Why are the treasure chest frames "flickering" in the html5 preview? The problem doesn't appear inside Flash and is inconsistent between files. There are two FLA files: one in which the treasure chest is empty, and one in which it's full. The empty animation doesn't throw any errors, either when converting to the HTML5 doc type or on export, but the resulting animation flickers. The full treasure, on the other hand gives me 21 lines of these errors when I do the conversion (not when I export): "Blend Modes(Layer) is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to Normal in an instance of Movieclip <Path>." The result in both cases is the same: the animations flicker, and neither our artist nor us can figure out why, or for that matter, even begin to troubleshoot it. Hi George,
I have taken a look at the files full_treasure_chest.fla and flippable_land.fla that you have shared via drop box and found that they both uses blank keyframe(s) followed by Keyframe(s). This was an issue and has been addressed in the latest release Flash CC 2014 (released on 18 June, 2014). Can you please install the latest build 14.0.0.110 and try this out?
