Safari 6.0 no good

Cannot stand anything about the new Safari that comes with Mountain Lion how can I go back to the previous version? I cannot download the previous version? Why? Thank you.

I have a similar problem with an EasyN IP camera.  Worked perfectly under Lion / Safari 5.  With Mountain Lion and Safari 6 I get about 2-3 seconds of video before the video stops.  As mentioned in one of the replies above, it seems Safari is doing something weird with it handling of the cgi script for the video feed served up by the IP camera.  I haven't found any error messages so tracking down the root cause is proving elusive.
There's another thread discussing this issue here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19087481

  • Help make the reading list (safari) go away --FOR GOOD (not just unchecking preferences--that is not a solution)

The READING LIST feature on safari is soo freakin annoying. Even after unchecking it in bookmark preferences, everytime I signin someplace, I still see it invisibly recording my information. The reading glasses icon isn't in my bookbar anymore, but I see a small puff go up in the left side of my screen. How can we make this stop? I even confirmed it's true, because AFTER turning it off under preferences, when I went back to turn it on just to check hours later, I was horrified that it still kept collecting information through sites I visited. This feature's invasive and irritating. Is there a way to terminate the reading list for good???

You can turn off Reading List by clicking the reading glasses icon.

  • Safari browser is not good

I think that my question is very clear
I will repeat the question again
I and my family are facing difficulty in intensive Safari browser was very slow and I now use another browser because the browser Safari is very bad I hope you can help
Because Safari already needs to be developed
I'm sorry I do not like Safari browser
For your information I use a very high speed Internet

This thread is a follow-on to this thread.
Whether clear or not, a performance question is often not a simple question.
If a browser other than Safari meets your requirements, then by all means use it.
It would not be typical for the Safari web browser to be significantly slower than another recent web browser.
While there may be an issue with the OS X system or with the network, that would usually effect all web browsers equally; the network and DNS speeds would usually effect all systems.
There's unfortunately not much that can be done or determined here in the forums; not without more information on the configuration and the network.
Make sure the OS X system has sufficient free memory and free disk space available.
Disable any Safari extensions as a test, and use the Safari menu to select both Empty Caches... and (if that doesn't improve performance) then Reset Safari...
As a more advanced test to profile page load performance, Safari includes developer tools, and these can be enabled and used to profile what's taking time within a particular connection.
Safari > Preferences > Advanced > check Show Develop in menu bar
This might tell you what is loading more slowly.

  • Safari would be (very) good if...

Things Safari needs to sort out as priority:
    1. Memory management. WebKit uses less memory than any other rendering engine I've tried. This is fantastic, but when you close a tab, no memory is released. This makes it very frustrating to use for any length of time.
    2. We need more options on how the tab bar functions or allow right clicking and closing on those opened in the list when the screen width is filled.
    3. We need a simple scroll bar like every other Windows browser has, where you can middle click, and scroll at the speed you want to.
Fix these three things, and it will be a true winner of a browser, and it could overtake Firefox as the community therefore plugin support grows. Customizing the appearance is another that I can think of, and put homepage button in the toolbar instead of bookmark page as installation default, otherwise the browser makes no sense as there's no sensible way to open a nice new tab. If anyone can think of anything else, please do add to the list!
Safari needs some competition from another browser that uses WebKit. Until that happens, I'm not convinced they'll want to make it look like a really nice Windows product, or any better than it can be on OSX.

I'm 100% sure, and just tested it to be certain. If enough memory is used up by Safari, the whole system runs and programs open very slowly even though only 1 tab is left remaining open in Safari. The computer needs to use the swapfile to accommodate, which is very slow.

  • Safari is not working good

I have Iphone 5s working on IOS8.3 and when i open my school website on safari and I want to log in i should type a security code which is written in a photo but it doesn't appear !!!!
the problem is not from the website ! cuz when i use google chrome it appear normally !!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Goodbye Safari. You were good while it lasted. Too slow to keep being faithful to you...

Unless anyone out there has any suggestions? I emptied catched, history, tried public DNS's, etc... Running Chrome now...

    Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them and test.

  • Rollover menu Great In safari,..Not so good...

I have a rollover menu that works as it was designed in Safari and Chrome,
It is not displaying well at all in FIrefox.
    the file is located at:
    http://boswellcompany.com/Menu_Test_1_26.html
what could possibly cause the menu's behavior as displayed by Firefox
Thank you very much in advance.

The actual "physical" size...number of pixels is considerably larger than may be required for proper display. I produced them in that manner to allow for sharper "edges".
I will make another set at the exact size necessary for display and see if the size component may not be the issue
    Thank you.
    Back soon
Problem Solved. Safari evidently doesnt mind intertreting size indictaions...while firefox is not as forgiving.
I made all the buttons at the size they display at and the erratic behaviors in some browsers...have disappeared.
Learning can be so painful, but its such a relief when the lessons learned.
    Thanks Again.

    - the pretty native round search box .... which feels to me how search box should be
    - get the pretty lucida GR font to be used in safari again as the base font.... it was removed from safari 4 beta !!!!!!!!!
    - got the pretty progress indicator again in

  • 1.burned a hole in my screen can I get this repaired?  2. Even though I have it set to open up to a blank screen, no web pages, my computer (safari) continuously opens with multiple safari sites open. It doesn't seem to matter what I do, it just reverts

    1. I burned a small hole in my screen, is that fixable/replaceable? 2. Even though I have my 15" MacBook Pro set to open to empty screen when I open Safari, it constantly opens multiple previous pages. It doesn't seem to matter what I do it just reverts back to opening multiple pages. Major security risk, my bank pages have popped back up after my computer has been shut down, account numbers and all. I took my computer to an Apple store and the genious there tols me...      "honey, you can't hold your laptop on your lap, that's the problem, it's getting too hot" he honestly said that. Could someone please help me? Thanks

Apple doesn't call its portable machines 'notebooks' instead of 'laptops' for nothing - using a MacBook Pro in your lap can cause some burns on your skin, poor ventilation, etc. So use it on a hard flat surface - not your lap, pillows, bedclothes, etc.
As for burning a hole in your screen, you'll have to revisit the Apple Store and see how much they would charge for a new screen. It's likely to be a bit expensive.
And if you've Safari set to re-open tabs when you restart, you can disable this feature -> Safari-Preferences-General.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Major Problem: Safari won't open

    Hi,
Safari keeps quitting as soon as I try to open it and I don't know how to fix it.
I have repaired permissions and opened in Safe Mode and reset Safari but it still won't open, so it won't send this to Apple either.

    Thank you Eric Root,
I did as you said but at first it did not fix the problem.
However, while looking through the plists I saw one for genieoinnovations.
It had been installed accidentally in January when I was trying to download software to restore deleted files (I bought TechTool but that didn't work). During that process I also had to install OSX Fuse. When I could not recover the deleted files I thought I had uninstalled everything to do with genieo, TechTool and OSX Fuse. (And obviously I realised genieo had messed with my Safari settings so had tried to rectify them, too).
So when I saw one genieo file still in plists, I did a search and found eight genieo files till in my System. I removed them all, plus a couple of internet plugins, and then I removed the Safari plist again and rebooted, and now Safari works fine, thank goodness.
So it must have been those genieo files that were messing it up. Safari had been quitting on start-up for some time but had always launched on the second attempt previously. This weekend was the first time it just would not launch at all.
There are also some other Safari plists – is it OK to leave them alone, especially as it is now working?
    com.apple.Safari.Extensions.plist
    com.apple.Safari.plist.lockfile
    com.apple.Safari.plist.ymRchwV

    com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
    Thanks,
    Sarah

  • Why I can't switch to Safari, but would like to

I use FF on my macbook and I've tried Safari and like it, but this is what keeps me going back to Firefox. I have some issues in FF also, which Safari doesn't have and am trying to get to a single browser, if possible.
    1) I want tabs. Not just for links from Applications, but when I click on a link on a web page, I want it to open in a new tab not a window. Yes, I know I can Command-click to get it in a new tab. But, I shouldn't have to. I've told Safari, in Preferences that I want things to open in a new tab and I should be able to simply click on the link, not hold down another button and click.
    2) In FF, when I download my statements from my bank and my credit card company, it automatically loads Quicken. In Safari, it just downloads the file. I've set (in More Info) the QFX files to be opened by Quicken; but I can't get Safari to recognize the file as a "safe file". Is there a way to do this.
    3) Menu Customization. I'd like to have a button on the menu bar to create a new, blank tab. I know the key strokes to do it and that I can control click on the tab bar, but I'd like to have a button on the menu bar.
    4) Flash blocking. I can give up the ad blocks (don't want to, I love AdBlocker on FF), but I really want to block the flash items until I want to see them. in FF, I use Flashblock, which gives me a button to click on to display the flash item, if I want to. Is there a way to do this in Safari with a minimum of clicks?
As you can see from my issues, I like things easy and with minimal clicks.
    Thanks!
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
There are a few components involved in this. One, is enabling folder actions, which you've already done. The second is writing an applescript to perform the desired action on files added to it, and saving it in your '/Library/Scripts/Folder Action Scripts/' folder. And finally, applying it to the download folder. To design a script, you'll have to use the Script Editor provided with Mac OS X.
I don't know much scripting myself, but to incorporate the information on Rubicode's website, and assuming Quicken is the default application associated with .qfx files, something along the lines of this should work...
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving aFile
      tell application "Finder"
if the name of aFile contains ".qfx" then
set file type of aFile to "WBCN"
        end if
      end tell
      open aFile
    end adding folder items to
Of course, the above example is included only for its conceptual value. Results will vary. You'd do well to get input from someone's who's familiar with scripting. Also, I found this article on MacOSXHints which is probably related to what you wish to do. Of interest is that there is an added line which sets the creator type as well. Given the age of the article, I'm not sure if that is necessarily required.

  • Safari in Windows 7 open links in new tab same window...

I have searched and seen similar topics, but no one answers. On my mac there is a terminal command that does this, but I use win 7 @ work and was hoping there was a way to accomplish the same thing. I want links to open in new tabs (just like clicking on ctrl + click does) I just don't want to have to press ctrl each time. Is there a preference file that can be modified? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I'm afraid I'm not going to be of much help here, Chris.
I'm not sure if this sort of function is handled by plists or registry settings, or by other components in the preferences/settings machinery.
The locations of the various preference files and folders on Safari on Windows Seven that I'm aware of are:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Preferences\com.apple.Safari
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Safari
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\Safari
If you're good with plist editing, you might be able to find a relevant setting in one of the plists in those locations (although on a Windows machine, not all of the preferences/settings componentry are handled by plists ... there's some database-driven functions too).
Safari keys are sprayed through the registry. But you might want to start looking in HKEYCURRENTUSER (at a guess) for local-preference-related keys.

  • Problem with safari slow speed

    Hi ,
I realized this problem when it was my first try to use macbookpro retina . it's just a few days that I bought my macbookpro retina. it's too slow compared with my older macbookpro!!!
      what should I do?
    thnx

Take it into your local Apple Store and see if they can reproduce the problem. You're still within your 14-day "grace" period, so you could always exchange your MBP-R for a new one, or return it for a refund.
It shouldn't be running anything slowly. Unless it's something with your wifi connection when you use Safari. The Apple Store has their own widi set up and can test Safari as well.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
