Safari cannot download PDFs

I am using Safari 2.0.2 with OX 10.4.3 on a Dual Processor G4. All of a sudden it is impossible to download a PDF from any site. The PDF window opens, but nothing appears except the spinning color wheel. Safari is frozen and it is necessary to force quit. Throwing away Safari preference files and even reloading the program has no effect. I am not sure whether the problem is in Safari or the OS. Anyone have any insight? It would be much appreciated!

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

My brand-new iPad cannot download PDF files from my class website on Safari. I was wondering if there was any kind of downloading application I needed to install first. Any thoughts? When I touch the file icon, a little window appears saying "Download failed: Safari cannot download this file."

    Hi,
Which web browser are you using to view the PDF? Safari 5.1.8
When you open the PDF in Adobe Reader add-in you will either see a floating toolbar
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-5224223-317859/430-90/floating +toolbar.JPG
    or a normal toolbar
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-5224223-317860/450-11/normalto olbar.JPG
both the toolbars have save button, use the button to save the file locally. I do not see these toolbars. I do, however see this
    and it works! Thanks
    Hope this will help you.
    Thanks

  • I am having a trouble for downloading. Each time  massage come Safari cannot download

I am having problem with downloading. Each time massage displayed SAFARI CANNOT DOWN LOWD

That's correct. Safari cannot download anything on iOS devices, except pictures and PDFs for viewing within Safari itself, and certain other file types for opening directly in another app.
What exactly are you trying to download?

  • Safari cannot download this file

I have a site optimized for Ipad, all looks great except when I go to download a linked .pdf which is a zip file. I get the "safari cannot download" msg I have a Mac Pro and when I access this site and click a link the download window opens.
    any help?
    RD.

A PDF and a zip file are not the same thing. Post the PDF on its own (not in a zip file) and you shouldn't have an issue.
There may be an app for unloading a zip. check the app store.but it means anyone using the site with an iPad would also have to have a similar app.

  • "Safari cannot download this file" when I tried dl a .mobileconfig file

    Hi,
I have been asked to research deployment of configuration to Ipod touch to determine if our clients will be able to use these devices on our secure network. According to the Enterprise Deployment Guide I should be able to send the Ipod Touch a .mobileconfig file:(http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Enterprise_DeploymentGuide.pdf)
But I'm getting the message "Safari cannot download this file" when I try to download the .mobileconfig file from our internal http portal.
Any advice you have would be much appreciated. Thank you,
    M

    Hi M,
There may be an issue with the website or the file, try emailing the profile to an account setup on the iPod touch.
If the issue persists, try resetting or restoring the iPod touch.
You can reset the iPod by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple logo as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 will walk you through the restore process.

    Hi ..
    Quit Safari.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go
Move the Adobe PDF browser plugin to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari to test.

SWF files are flash files, which are not supported on the iPad : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/
If you want to play the file then the iSwifter or Skyfire browser apps might work (they don't work on all flash sites) but you won't be able to download it

on ipad 2 safari cannot download the file for windows live photo gallery

  • Safari cannot download Windows Media Player

When I try to download Windows Media Player for Mac on my iTouch the message says Safari cannot download it. Is there a solution to this problem?

The answer is in your question. The iPod touch (not iTouch) is not a Mac.
To play Microsoft's proprietary WMV format you need to convert them on your desktop computer to one of the many open standards the iPod touch can play.
