Safari on iPhone 4 doesn't render web sites correctly, white rectangle hides most of web site view
I started having a problem with Safari on the second day of using my iPhone.
Since today, Safari will not render any web site correctly anymore, there is always a white rectangle hiding most of the web site view, web site browsing is now impossible, only a small area on the top and right remains visible.
How can this be fixed ?
Well, try restarting your phone, if that doesn't help, restore it with iTunes.

IPhone 3G doesn't render web page properly; newer models do. CSS problem?
Hello,
I have programmed a web page that's almost finished, and now the owner tells me it doesn't work on his iPhone 3G.
The problematic phone identifies itself as:
+Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 312 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16+
My site uses the YAML Framework http://www.yaml.de/en/home.html
I went to the shop to test it on various iPhone models and it seems that in fact the 3G doesn't use my stylesheet, and instead reverts to the basic fall-back stylesheet. (To be precise, it seems to ignore the basemod.css and use the base.css instead)
I have made some test pages which can be seen here: http://ou812.bplaced.net/dev20/
The HTML and CSS validates OK. The site looks fine on newer iPhone models, and on Apple's SDK iPhone Simulator. (the version I have can only simulate OS 4; anybody know how I can simulate OS 3?)
Has anybody got an idea what could cause this?
If someone has an iPhone 3G, could you have a look at that test page? I cannot post the original site here but could of course email it to you..In fact, it doesn't load any stylesheets. The site looks as if there aren't any there. Strange.

Exchange 2007 email on Iphone 4 doesn't render html.
I have two accounts on my iphone 4 one gmail, one exchange 2007. The problem with email coming from our exchange server 2007 show the html code and hyperlinks vs the actually embedded page. But the same email on my gmail account works fine. It seems to be a exchange issue. Anyone have any ideas?
ThanksWell, try restarting your phone, if that doesn't help, restore it with iTunes.

Safari doesn't render pages ( white pages)
Since I updated to Maverick (from Lion) Safari doesn't render web pages anymore.
The pages loads, but stay blank (all white) , but I can still interact with them ( view pages source and click on any links)
I created a new account, threre everything work perfectly.
I tried to remove all files, cahes, preferences and plugins... but nothing work!
Also, Chrome, Firefox and Opera all work perfectly
Anyone know about a third party app that could cause this
Anyone have any idea on what could be going on ?
ThanksTry troubleshooting Safari extensions...
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall. -
Safari on iphone won't render cgi generated png images with query strings
I've got a cgi app functioning as a web service that generates png images and serves them up as part of another app which marshals them up in HTML.
Here's the image stand alone:
http://cybre.net/maps/mapgen.pl.png?WIDTH=1024&HEIGHT=768
and here's how I marshal it:
<IMG CONTENTTYPE='image/png' SRC='http://cybre.net/maps/mapgen.pl.png?WIDTH=1024&HEIGHT=768'>
It seems to work on firefox, epiphany and galeon web browsers for linux, and my windows friends say that internet explorer renders them okay as well.
My only apple hardware is my iphone, and safari pretends that there is no content when it renders the HTML page. Safari on the iphone does not render even using a direct link.
The png is generated by perl mapscript, $img = $map->draw;
print "content-type: image/png\n\n";
$img->write;
close(STDOUT)
On the previous version of the iphone firmware, and before i factored the image generation out into a web service, the iphone was able to render the png image successfully.
Is this safari wierdness where it gets cranky that there is
QUERY_STRING info after the .png? mapgen.pl.png?foo=bar ?
If so, are other browsers just being hyper liberal in what they accept and safari is playing by the rules or is this a bug in safari?
thanks in advance,
-marcit turns out that safari's handling of png is broken, the problem reproduced on both iphone and mac safaris.
in changing the format to gif, it all works okay.
does apple allow mortals to file bugs against safari? -
Firefox doesn't render my web page correctly other browsers do
Hi My website works correctly in IE9, Safari, Opera and Chrome but Firefox doesn't render my Contacts page correctly. The contact form position is wrong and the navigation does not work for the Contacts page. The only issue is with Firefox which fails to render the Contacts page correctly. Both HTML and CSS validate.
The website is http://www.pcwebsite.org.ukthanks you for the link. I'll try that option next. But clearly since:
Internet Explorer 9,8, even 7
Chrome
Safari
and Opera
render the webpage correctly and there is no issue with validation of both HTML and CSS, then surely Firefox is not working to industry standards.
I can use any browser I care to but I can't control what browser my potential clients use.
"I'm not sure if this is caused by the floating sidebar content as a style rule of clear:both or clear:left partially fixes this at least horizontally (it is still off to the left)."
There is nothing wrong with the code is there as it works perfectly with the other browsers listed above? Maybe I should put the whole web page in a table. -

Back up all data. You must know how to restore from a backup even if the system becomes unbootable. If you don't know that, stop here and ask for guidance.
Quit the Genieo application, if it's running. Force quit if necessary.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/etc/launchd.conf
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.
If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder may open with a file selected, or the file may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that it doesn't exist. If it does exist, it's a configuration file created or replaced by the Genieo installer. Any software installer that does this should be considered ipso facto malware. Move the file to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password.
IMPORTANT: If the launchd.conf file exists, you must move it to the Trash it before continuing. Otherwise the systemwill become unbootable. In that case, restore from your backup and start over. That's how badly Genieo has sabotaged your system.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Applications/Genieo.app
/Applications/Uninstall Genieo.app
/Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
/usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib
/usr/lib/libimckit.dylib
/usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib
Again, some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file doesn't exist. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Reboot and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have rebooted.
Your web browser(s) should now function normally, and you should be able to reset the home page and search engine. If not, stop here and post your results.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including one called "Spigot" if it's present. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
The Genieo installer may also install the "Silverlight" web plugin from Microsoft. If you have no use for that plugin, you can remove it according to Microsoft's instructions. Don't remove it if you subscribe to "Netflix" or any other video-streaming service that uses it.
This procedure may leave a few files behind, but it should deactivate Genieo. Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install it. Chances are you got it from one of the Internet's open sewers such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad embedded in a page on some other site.
Finally, be forewarned that when Genieo is mentioned on this site, the developer sometimes shows up under the name "Genieo support." If that happens, don't believe anything he says, but feel free to tell him what you think of his scam.

My new iPhone 4 doesn't work at all
You are definitely not alone with your issues. I'm on my second iPhone 4 unit, and am still having the same problems. I've had proximity sensor insanity, battery draining after 8 hours of stand-by (NO USE, just sleeping) to the point that my phone goes into a coma and has to be plugged in to be revived, the grip of death dropping calls....
But the single most irritating and infuriating problem is the signal strength/reception fluctuation. I share a house with two iPhone 3Gs users, and I had an original silverback iphone until July 2010. They all work fantastically well with no issues when I'm at home (where I am just about 24/7, since I work from home). *_My new iPhone 4 doesn't work at all.*_. Signal strength is all over the place. I did a test where I sat watching the bars showing signal strength for five minutes. In that time, I saw it switch from E (edge?) with full bars to 3G with full bars to 3G with 1 bar to 2 bars to 4 bars to 1 bar to "Searching." Then back to 3G, with degradation of bars from 3 to none, then E network appears again, this time with full strength. This all with the phone sitting on a table, not being touched by human hands.
It seems that my iPhone is constantly switching actual physical networks, and as a result signal strength is all over the place from one 30 second period of time to the next. This drains the battery like crazy, and means that all incoming calls go to voicemail--usually without my phone ever ringing.
The 3G phones in my house work great. The 1st G iPhone I have had since the week it came out worked great (though its battery doesn't hold much of a charge anymore, after three years). On my new IP4, games are awesome. The videos and photos are amazingly clear and high quality, and editing on the phone is out of sight. iPhone Apps rule. MobileMe syncs my contacts quickly and easy. The only thing I love more than the iP4 features is my iPad--it rocks.
Everything works on my IP4 at home BUT THE ACTUAL TELEPHONE FUNCTIONS. This is unacceptable. In late August, after two weeks in which I had 4 minutes of phone use, the nice folks at the Apple store switched me to a new phone, no questions asked. The phone worked so much better, I could send texts and place calls most of the time (this was now the first part of September)...except that now that I was using my IP4 to make phone calls, I started having a problem with the proximity sensor during those calls. I'd be talking and my cheek would mute the phone, turn on speaker, open contacts and edit info (with gobbledygook), and of course, hang up on people.
So around Sept. 18 I was told by Apple phone support to update to iOS 4.2, restore as new, and do two complete power up and drain down cycles. This would fix the proximity sensor and any other issues.
Well, I would love to see if iOS 4.2 actually did fix the PS, but I can't get the signal strength to stabilize long enough to have an actual phone conversation. I'm back to watching the signal strength go up and down at random (with me touching/holding it carefully to avoid grip of death, and also when I leave phone on the table with screen lock off --no touching). It is back to switching between E network and 3G and varying strengths of wi-fi from my home network. This eats up battery from 100% to low enough to turn off in under 10 hours of standby (usually 6-7). Essentially, my IP4 is back to being unusable as a phone.
So I did another long, involved call to Apple tech support on 9/18. They tell me that I have to turn off wi-fi, turn off 3G, turn off push/fetch and notifications, shut all apps (no multi-tasking) and do everything but switch my phone to airplane mode--and see if the battery holds up for 24 hours in standby. If that didn't work, I should restore from new, but not load any contacts or network or data or anything--just leave it as it would be out of the box new.
As a test, I turned everything off as advised: 3G, wi-fi, push, etc. Now my battery life is back to normal, where I can have the IP4 on stand-by for up to two full days before needing a recharge. Fabulous. BUT IT'S NOT A SMART PHONE if I have to turn off 3G, turn off wireless, and not use email push and so forth.
I'm so frustrated I could scream. I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that there is a significant flaw in the new iPhone. Or perhaps it is just an issue for iPhone 4 users in areas where the signal strength is marginal, or where there are two types of overlapping network coverage (E and 3G in my case). I know that the networks themselves are in good condition--though I'm in a semi-rural area, the state capital is 4 miles away, and I know they have a new tower and good coverage for the politicians and power brokers around town. The phone coverage area I live in has Edge network in the south part of the network area and 3G in the north part, which is the state capital. I'm right in between. Could this be the problem? AT&T says no, it's Apple's fault.
Message was edited by: HighSierraSo what to do besides complain? Troubleshoot?
I just wonder if all of us who have had chronic signal strength and "Searching for network" issues that totally drain the battery might have something in common, despite being all over the world? I'm using wi-fi 95% of the time, and live in a semi-rural area with overlapping networks run by same carrier. Apple folks hinted that maybe in my area the network usage is nearing capacity (resulting in getting kicked off of 3G and down to E as new calls are placed that strain capacity). They also hinted there could be interference from mountains or other objects. But here's the thing--3G phones work fine, and my IP4 works fine when I'm away from home, usually in the capital city on strong 3G network. (When I say "works fine I mean the signal is good and calls go through, I haven't tested battery drain away from home yet).
I have to conclude that the problem is the IP4 itself--something about the hardware or the software (namely, the way it connects to the phone network) is horribly wrong. Other folks who live in urban areas or with strong networks that (likely) aren't over-utilized don't seem to have this issue. After reading through these pages, it also seems the wi-fi may be a major culprit in draining the battery and in varying signal strength (this is from Apple phone support, which said that varying signal strength and the constant pinging off the home wi-fi is creating a "power struggle" and keeping the phone constantly looking for the best connection option). Mind you, 3G iphones on the same home network have no problems whatsoever.
So while I'm not a technical expert, it seems like the problem HAS to lie in the differences in the way the IP4 connects to the cellular and/or wi-fi network. And since the connection/signal strength problem was "resolved" on my replacement phone, but then "broken" again by the software update of iOS 4.2, I'm leaning toward this being a software issue. I've offered to help Apple troubleshoot, and I'm trying to be patient--because the IP4 is a work of art and I've never had an issue with an Apple product before. But all they want me to do is restore, restore, reload, restore, and then drive 1 hour to the nearest Apple store (in Reno, NV) and get a new phone...and start the whole process over again. I don't have time for this, I need my phone back.
I'm this close to trading in my beautiful but flawed IP4 for a 3G. Maybe I should just get a new battery for my original iPhone from 2007?
I understand that Apple can't test for every possible variable of use all over the world, but they don't even seem to acknowledge that they have a problem with the IP4 that will not be resolved by replacing it with a new unit. They want me to believe it's a fluke, or it's just me...but I've been combing these threads and see a lot of people reporting the same issues I am--battery drain and wildly fluctuating signal strength issues, wi-fi problems, and dropped calls. Can't someone get on this? Because otherwise Apple is going to have to admit that their IP4 is not a good solution for people who live in areas of less than perfect signal strength or use wifi or whatever demonic combo I have in my home/work setting.
Or people will have to do what I have done--if you who want the cool IP4 non-phone features, you will have to dumb down your IP4 in order to have it be even moderately useful as *a phone.* For $599 I expected better.
My (temporary) workaround?
To spare the battery:
*Turn off wi-fi (which *****, because now I have to burn minutes when I'm at work using the email, downloads, safari, etc--and it's E network, so it's SLLOOOOOOOW)
*turn off push and fetch, have mail get new messages manually
*turn off data roaming
To keep the signal somewhat stable (making it easier to complete calls and spare battery)
*Turn off 3G (this leaves me on E network--fabulous, I had that with my 3 year old iPhone)
*grip IP4 between two fingers placed at the top of the phone, away from death zone. Tough for us lefty phone users.
*pray the free bumper will a) come soon and b) help. I'm not optimistic.
To keep proximity sensor from going nuts and dropping calls, muting, turning on speaker etc:
*use headset or bluetooth (unless you are also having one of the known bluetooth issues!)
*keep phone pressed to one ear and don't move it a millimeter. Don't shift sides, don't hold phone with your shoulder, just keep it to one ear and talk fast).
I'm about out of patience. I understand that lots of folks have and love their IP4s. I'd love to be one of those people. I'm open to suggestions and have spent many hours on phone with tech support, restoring my phone, reloading data and apps--there has to be a better way.
Sorry for the thread-jacking, but someone from Apple has got to be following these threads--help us!

Google Images not working in Safari on Iphone
Since a while back the "images"-tab in google does'nt work on the iPhone in any of the browsers I've tried. I've searched the net to find others with the same problem but with little luck. Here's a description of the problem.
For example I search for "dog" in google in the Safari browser, this works just fine.
Then I press the "images"-tab and get a thumbnail view with pictures of dogs, of course.
But this is where it all goes wrong, when touching one of the images I get an enlarged view of an image next to it. The "back to the results" and "full image" buttons dim out (without being touchable) and swiping does not work. I don't know what has caused this to stop working properly, I know its not the new iOS version though.
HERE is a youtube video I prepared that explains the problem.
First, is there anyone else out there with this problem?
Second, this is what I've tried:
- Other iPhone web browser applications, for example "Mercury", "Opera Mini", "Skyfire" and none of them works except "Dolphin" (good work).
- Resetting any of the settings in the phone, clearing cache and such have no effect.
- Resetting the iPhone totally, factory settings. No effect.
- Using someone elses iPhone. I've tried on an iPhone 4 and iPhone 3S, same problems (with iOS 5.01).
- Trying out all of the settings in google, no change.
- Setting the google view to "classic" instead of "mobile" works of course, but that makes the site look just like on a PC or Mac and is not what I'm after.
Third, this problem seems to just affect Swedish users from what I can tell. There would be thousands of posts about this if everyone in the world was affected by it, but so far I've seen no posts on this matter. But after searching a while I found a swedish forum site on the subject. Link (in swedish). Also, when visiting google from Sweden some form of script automatically changes the url from .com to .se. I don't know if this has something to do with it?
Anyone know what causes this problem and how It might be resolved?
Best Regard
Stefan, SwedenHi Stefan,
First; this must be the most thorough error discription I have ever seen. Impressive.
Second; yep for a couple of weeks now I've been having exactly the same problems as you describe. One other thing that I've noticed, is that for me, the 'word suggestion drop down list' or whatever it's name is, no longer works. More specificly:
I open Safari in my iPhone, surf to Google image search and type for example "dog" in the search field. Below the field, I now get a list of suggested words or phrases that I think is based on the most popular searches. For me, the first suggestion in this list is "dogo argentino" (a specific and popular breed of dogs). When I tap on the words "dogo argentino", the search field normally would switch input from "dog" to "dogo argentino" AND starts the image search automatically. However, since the problem showed up, when I tap on "dogo argentino" the input field is not affected (still reads "dog") and I would have to type "dogo argentino" manually and hit "search".
I use a Swedish iPhone 4S (5.0.1 (9A406)) in the Telenor network. I also have tested the same possible solutions that you describe in your post, but with no luck.
All the best,
Ingo -
At my PC startup, I get an error message "AppleSyncNotifier.exe--Entry Point Not Found" My iPhone now doesn't show up as a Device in either iTunes or My Computer on my PC. I've uninstalled/ reinstalled iTunes & run diagnostics-no luck. Ideas?
I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will. -
Every time I press the delete tab in Safari it either returns to my previous web page or crashes?
Launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. If that doesn’t work, then in the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash logs related to Safari, WebProcess, or PluginProcess. Select the most recent one of each and post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) -
Iphone 4s doesn't turn on anymore!!
My iphone 4s doesn't turn on anymore. It does shows it needs to be charged but it has been charged all night long and the battery should be full by now. The night before it did turn on a few times but it only showed 1% was charged while I was charging it didn't charge.. What can I do to fix it? Is it the battery? Because it's not the charger.
Hi ,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know it can be frustrating when a button on your iPhone no longer functions. The step you mentioned to reset the iPhone would be the step I would recommend if the Sleep/Wake button did function. In this case however, it may be necessary to have your iPhone evaluated for repair. Please use the information in the attached web-link to learn about this process.

Colour washed out in .Mac web gallery viewed in Camino, but OK in Safari
The colour of images exported to .Mac web gallery viewed under Camino is washed out, but it is OK in Safari.
As Camino is my main browser, I hope that this can be fixed.
Does anyone come across this problem, and got a solution?Charles
This can be fixed, but it's a fix for the makers of Camino, not iPhoto. The reason is that Safari is one of the very few Web Browsers that respects the Color Profiles embedded in the images. Camino doesn't. It should.

After 10.9.2 update, https doesn't load web pages through an authenticated proxy
Hi all,
Recently I have updated my MacBook Pro with the 10.9.2 update. The laptop is connected to the company's network with wifi. The proxy was setup correctly to reach internet. After having restarted with this new update, I noticed I couldn't open any web pages with HTTPS. Any browser (Safari, Chrome and Firefox) shows that the web page is charging... but nothing happens... Page status stays in pending.
I got the confirmation from the admin that no change has been recorded on the network configuration. I tested with another MacBook Pro on Lion with my credentials and it did work. Also I double checked by connecting my iphone to the wifi and using the proxy. It worked properly. I could visit any HTTPS websites.
Do you have any idea about the root of this issue and what can I do to fix it?
Thanks
NicFor some mysterious reasons Sophos Antivirus blocked all https requests. I uninstalled it and now it's cruising pretty well.
The next step is to install it again and set it up properly to make it working with the proxy.
