Safari Update Downloads
It's been great being able to use Safari at work on my IBM machine. Now I can read articles and such with text that actually looks decent. However, my company started filtering web access a while ago, and executables don't get through. Is there a way I can download updates for Safari, iTunes, and Quicktime in a different file format? Are they available in .zip format anywhere?
Software Update is pretty much useless at the moment, so there's not quick and easy way to get the files, is there? I don't mind manually going to the site to get them, but if there's a way I wouldn't mind redirecting Software Update to .zip files.
Please help!
You can download Safari 3.0.4 as zip file from http://connect.apple.com (free registration required). It's called Safari 310A29. It's *the same version* as public available from http://apple.com/safari/download/

After Safari Update, MS Word won't save
Has anyone else gotten the latest Safari update download, and found that MS has lost its ability to save newly created docs? The Safari update was what I did immediately before Word went funny. A reinstall of Word (Office Mac 2004) didn't help. Using latest OS 10.3.9 on a G5 dual 1.8GHz Power PC.
It seems now that the integrity of your OS is fine and that the problem is isolated to Office.
Is it possible that you may have installed an additional third-party component/plug-in to add functionality to Office? If so it might be an idea to locate and trash that. You might also want to trash the preferences at user/[insert user name]/library/preferences. Trashing preferences is often the first thing to do when an application starts crashing.
If the problem still persists then uninstalling and reinstalling might help. Hopefully the install disk has an uninstall option (I'm on the earlier version X so can't check). If you do this, then it would be a good idea to run disk repair/repair permissions first before reinstalling, and run repair permissions again after the install (this is good practice for any OS upgrade and major software installs).
I don't know about the MS crash reporter (none such thing is version X), but it always seems to me that these are to assist software developers to identify problems for future patches/upgrades and not to solve your particular problem(!). In the case of Apple, all one gets is a little "thanks for sending to Apple" balloon. You might want to try the support pages at: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support.aspx
It's quite usual for applications to show up at HD and user level, so there's nothing wrong there.
As to the Safari crash, do you have any components such as Pith Helmet, Acid Search, Sogudi? These are usually located in SIMBL plug-ins folders and can sometimes cause crashes (I'm troubleshooting just such an issue with Pith Helmet right now).
I do hope you get up and running. The weather having improved here in London, I'm off to watch some cricket! -
My daughter downloaded the new safari update on her iMac and now it won't open without new os update
We downloaded the new safari update on my daughter's iMac and one it won't open without the new os. How do we go back to the previous safari? Thanks!
Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
The version is noted there. -
After downloading the Safari update, and after MacBook had to do a restart, I went to my Bookmarks, clicked on XFinity to get my email. The home page opened, but nothing I have clicked on will open except the weather. I tried opening Email, TV, Support, Help, Log In, even the news stories and none of the links open. How do I go back to my previous Safari version so I can get my email?
Its always a good idea to have a few browsers to use. About 1/2 year ago Safari just stopped working intermittently and it took a lot of help from some of the experienced users on this forum to help me figure out why it was behaving the way it was. Without Firefox I would have been in trouble (because when Safari stopped working so did Chrome). Since then I have also downloaded Opera though I haven't used it. And I have also discovered that different websites work better with one browswer than with another. Anyway, I'm glad you figured out a way to get your emails.

Getting Startup Disk Full message since downloading new Safari update
I downloaded the new Safari update a few days ago… it took ages to do and whenever I now try to use Safari I get the Pinwheel of Death after about two minutes and then a message telling me my startup disk is full. It won't let me acknowledge the message or force-quit from Safari – I have to switch off at the button and restart.
All I have on my MacBook are 15 Word documents and the Applications it shipped with (in fact I’ve actually dumped some in an attempt to clear space, as ell as dumping the cache folders)… I only use it to surf the net in the evenings and have no music or pictures on it.
I'm not having this problem at all when using Firefox. Is it possible the update has a bug?You really need a bit more space than that, but try a bit of maintanance:
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.
Background information here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
and here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk. -
I just downloaded Safari update. Where is RSS?
I use my news aggregator on a daily basis. Has the Safari update made it obsolete?
I wrote a little tool to extract the RSS feeds from your Mail and Safari preferences. You can download it at from http://www.etresoft.com/download/DredgeFeeds.zip

Updated to Mac OS X to be 10.6.8 & Safari DOA , downloaded Firefox 5 which auto imported all Safari bookmarks. I want to export from FF5, no find "Organize Bookmarks" command.
In my Library/Internet Plug-ins folder I have a file named Flash Player.plugin (it's 22.8 MB however, not 23.9mb) and another named flashplayer.xpt (it's 4 KB however, not856 bytes).
I am unable to open the Plug-Ins menu (the browser pops up but wont load)...is there another way to check for Shockwave Flash?? When I do a search for "Shockwave" on my hard drive I do find a plug-in named "DirectorShockwave.plugin" (76 KB)
Also...The "Open using Rosetta" checkbox was already unchecked -
I have some issues since I download the safari update
I have some problem with the safari update. When I open my computer (MacBook pro), safari open but I can't see the web page. the only thing that make the web page open is when I do this: I go in (french) Preference system / réseau / assistant / diagnostique.
My internet connection work fine. Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Be sure to test on more than one Wi-Fi network, if at all possible. A desktop computer can be tested with a mobile hotspot, such as the hotspot created by a cell phone. If the problem only exists on one network, then the access point of that network should be the focus of your attention, not the computer.
Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
Wake for Wi-Fi network access
if it's checked.
Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
Step 6
In the Wi-Fi settings, select
Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local
Click OK and then Apply.
Step 7
Reset the System Management Controller.
Step 8
Reset the PRAM.
Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. You'll be prompted for the password when you reconnect. Save it in the keychain.
Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center. -
When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6. Can anyone help me?
Don't panic. OS X 10.5.8 is the most popular PowerPC OS out there. People run it everyday without security breaches, including myself. It isn't Windows!
If you're really that worried, I highly recommend Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition. Supports PowerPC & Intel and Mac OS X 10.4-10.7.

Hello
My system version 10.5.8
I have installed Safari update - 5.0.6 and the browser stopped working. At openingit shows the following icon:
"Safari has suddenly finished working. Possible problem is in the action of the plugin "TastyAppsAVPlugin".
After deleting all plugins from the folder "Internet Plugin", Safari worked again no problem, BUT all sites with flash content (e.g.YouTube) did not work.
I then tried the following experimental steps:
a) Moved all plugins from the folder "Internet Plugin" into a temporary folder.
b) Downloaded and istalled Adobe Flash Player version 10.3.181.34
c) Started Safari and it did not work ( same message"TastyAppsAVPlugin")
d) Deleted Adobe Flash Player from the folder "Internet Plugin". Safari worked.
e) Moved back all plugins, except Adobe Flash Player, from the temporary folder to "Internet Plugin" folder. Safari works... But Flash won't work!!! Before update to Safari 5.0.6 , ev erything worked perfectly well.
Guys, please solve the problem
Regards
Ruslan Reed

There are many threads on this. I typed "Uninstalling TastyApps" in the Google search, and came up with these:
http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=Uninstalling+tastyapps&ie=UT F-8&oe=UTF-8
I do not know which of the many TastyApps haxies you have. Perhaps it would be better to contact them directly, once you know which of their products you have. -
MacBook will not boot after iTunes 10.5.2, iPhoto, and Safari update
My MacBook (mid 2007) will no longer boot after the iTunes 10.5.2, iPhoto and Safari update. It will load Lion but will no open any applications. After running Repair Disk Permissions and Repair Disk in the Recovery HD, Lion will ask for my password, log in, then display the menu bar and a grey background and remain unresponsive. I tried downloading a new copy of Lion in Recovery HD but it will not get past about 1/8 of the download bar before freezing and becoming unresponsive. Any ideas?
Any ideas?? I really need to see if this is fixable! Thanks!

Safari automatically downloads "Unknown" file
In the last few days I have found that Safari automatically downloads files called "Unknown". It sometimes happens when I am using another application so it doesn't seem related to something that I have just done. Also I find that Safari is DEAD slow with some pages or part of the content of some pages.
Here's what I have tried so far. I have deleted all the plist files in both the user account and the library folder in the system folder. I have zapped the PRAM, rebuilt permissions and restarted in safe mode. I have Resert Safari and Emptied the Cache under the Safari menu. I have also updated my antivirus and run it. Nothing has helped.
The sites that load slowly do not behave the same way in Firefox, but I would like to use Safari for most of these most of the time. Any suggestions of a cure would be most welcome.Hi Linc.

PowerBook G4 Safari update?
My PowerBook G4 needs Safari updated, according to Gmail, Facebook and other sites.
My G4 says all software is up to date. What Safari should I have?
Additionally Facebook won't play videos. It says I need to update Flashplayer. I try to update it and it says I have Zero memory. I need this little old laptop to work, as my regular laptop is broken and this is a spare to get me by until I can get a new machine. Any help or tips provided are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for anyone who tries to help me.
RohipforislipYou could try & use TenFourFox, as it does not generate the notice from google
when attempting to use it with Google Accounts, especially gmail, the others do
that are out-dated, such as older FireFox, SeaMonkey, Opera, or Safari. iCab
does not appear to always generate the unsupported status notice, if you go
into that browser menu bar settings to change its 'Browser Identity' to Safari 6...
At least TenFourFox does support Tiger 10.4.11, as well as Leopard 10.5.8.
To note: this browser does not use Flash or java, by default. For some video
there are options, one is HTML5 support from the sites you visit. Other player
items such as they are, can be read about in the TenFourFox page... see:
Here is the main page with download, and other info about TenFourFox 31.2:
http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ - there are two versions for G4.
The iCab browser builds have some usefulness, and there are some that can
work with vintage or obsolete operating systems. Carefully note their specs.
See iCab v. 4.9 for use with Panther 10.3.9 & Tiger 10.4.11, in 32-bit:
http://www.icab.de/dl.php - iCab puts a distracting temporary brand label up in
the browser that goes away for a time, when used as-is. Licensed, it goes away.
A recent version of 'SeaMonkey for PPC' v 2.26 for Leopard 10.5.8 exists, &
I tried it. The fans run and it works really hard and slow no matter what, for me.
So I don't recommend the latest version. The older one I like that still works,
but has no secure update, was v. 2.13 SeaMonkey for PPC. An earlier build
number was for Tiger, with v. 2.13 for PPC 10.5 Leopard.
{There are some other versions of SeaMonkey, not for PPC.}
Hopefully you can find some kind of compromise; an early Intel-based Mac
with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, rosetta, and at least 2+ GB RAM helps for a start.
Good luck & happy computing! -
Safari update 4.02 corruption
I downloaded 4.02 and installed it. My boot drive is now unbootable. I have run DiskUtility, TechTool Pro 5, Drive Genius 2, and Diskwarrior 4.1.1 to no avail. What is the story with the update? It trashed my system.
I did a rebuild with Diskwarrior 4.1.1 and Drive Genius 2 and TechTool Pro 5. The drive is not completely corrupted. There is clearly a corruption in the boot software since that partition will not boot in safe mode. The only change that was made was the installation of the Safari update. No other bootable drive or partition has been compromised, however I have not attempted an upgrade of Safari on those drives. I have no confidence that the 4.0.2 upgrade will install on my system without further damage. If you can give me a clue to diagnosing what happened I will run the traps to locate the issue, but as of this time I see no reason to assume that the problem was caused by anything other than the update process.
Assume that what I have told you about the result of the update is true, what is the next step to resolving the problem. Incidentally, all systems tests come up clean. NO ISSUES. You have seen the list of tools that I used to test that boot drive.
Suppose that there were corrupted permissions before I ran the update. What would happen if the updater encountered those corrupted permissions? Would there be no effect? Would other files become corrupted by the update process? What is the stream of changes that the updater would make and how might those changes impact the boot process? Does the Safari updater have any involvement with the boot sequence and commands?
This is not a minor issue on my system. I do not have a current clone that I can use to replace the damaged drive. Shame on me, however, I don't expect a Microsoft result from an Apple update. -
Mac - Unable to install Adobe Flash Player after Safari update
After the latest Safari update (version 8.0.2) for Mac, I received a message that Flash Player was out of date. I downloaded the latest Flash DMG file and when updating it stalls at 32%. Running the latest update for Yosemite.
I've uninstalled all of Flash player and all files and folders related to Adobe Flash from the computer. I've turned off my anti-virus and firewall. It continues to stall at 32%. I've re-downloaded the flash update and continue to have the problem.
Any suggestions?
