Safari very often stops working.

Safari very often stops working.  I have tried to clear the history and coockies and powered off. Then Safari works on s few pages and stops again. I have checked the network by doing exactly the same things on another ipad, and that works fine. Any suggestions?

When you say that it stops working, I assume that you mean the app crashes and takes you back to the home screen. Close all of the apps in the recents tray on the iPad, clear Safar again (delete the cookies and data) reboot the iPad and then see if Safari behaves a little better.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Go to Settings>Safari>Cookies and Data. Now reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. I don't get a spinning ball, it just stops working at whatever page it's on. I can close the program just fine but when I re-open it, either safari or firefox, it freezes trying to load the hompage. This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

    It's not a router problem as I explained in my post. If it was a router problem then I wouldn't have the problem everywhere I go. It is an issue with the software.
    Then I guess the millions of people running 10.5.7 with no issues are just hallucinating that their machines are working fine?
    I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
    The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.
    If your machine performs flawlessly, it may be a router issue.
    If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
    There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
    But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
    In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add "2 + 3."

  • Safari Auto Fill Stopped working

    The auto fill in Safari 4 has stopped working. It used to be when I went to, say, eBay, my name and password would automatically be there. Now, the spaces are blank. But, when I type in the first letter of my ID, the rest of the ID and the Password appear, and function properly.
    What happened to this, and why did it change, and how do I get it back to all being there right away?

    HI,
    From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Where you see: Usernames and Passwords, make sure that box is checked.
    Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities. Select Passwords on the left.
    Delete the eBay keychain on the right. Quit Keychain Access. Launch Safari if it isn't running. Navigate to eBay and login. When prompted, click: Always Allow.
    Since you are running Snow Leopard, *make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64.* Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

  • Safari has suddenly stopped working on my iMac.  I can access it on my iphone and ipad.

    Safari has stopped working on my iMac.  The error message says: "Safaru quit unexpectedly.  Click reopen to open the appication again."  When I click reopen, nothing happens.

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
    For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
    Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
    ☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
    Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    ☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
              DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
    (not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
    I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
    Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Safari - server has stopped working

    I have tried the advice given to get safari to work but no joy. (deleting the app and restart. Also holding both home and sleep down to restart.) When I try to search I get "safari could not open this page because the server stopped working". How do I get it to work again and search??

    Hi Friend,
    Can your iPad sends iMessages, Facetime calls or something through the internet?
    If yes, try to reset your network settings, double check the Restrictions settings, check the Safari settings...
    If not, you have some problem with iinternet connection. Look at airplane mode is off, if your iPad recognizes WiFi connection or not, check the Restrictions settings, if other device also faces the same problem with internet connection
    If still not working:
    1. Go to the Settings App.
    2. Tap on Wi-Fi
    3. Your chosen network will be ticked. Tap on its white arrow over a blue circle button to its right
    4. Tap on DNS
    5. Replace the current information with 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4
    6. Try visiting a website with Safari to see if this works.
    Hope something here helps

  • Qosmio X-70 - keys very often not working in games but fine otherwise

    Hello,
    When playing any game on this Qosmio X-70 laptop, the keys are often not very responsive and I have to press the keys often multiple times for them to do what they should. Outside of games all keys respond without any problems. It is unfortunately making playing games on a gaming laptop somewhat impossible.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks.

    Very often means not always but sometimes. Correct?
    Did you notice the keyboard problem playing just some particular games or all games?
    Is this issue noticeable using external keyboard?

  • Safari and mail stopped working

    iMac 27 just before the slim version, on latest operating system, mail and safari have stopped connecting to the Internet, diagnostics says everything is okay both for wifi and Ethernet but they will not work. Any sugestions my iMac 24, mac mini and iPad! Software update will also not work.

    Double-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):

    Launch the Network Utility application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Network Utility in the icon grid.
    Step 1
    Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field (command-V). Press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
    Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
    Important Note
    Some web browsers and mail clients will automatically convert a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a clickable URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters.

  • After 6.02 upgrade, Safari and FF stopped working

    Was using FF for iMac for about 1-2 weeks. There was a self-installed upgrade to 6.02. I saw the add on messages and did not upgrade any but disabled and re-enabled some of them. After that FF worked hit and miss (not loading pages and sites, alternating with loading sites very very slowly, to just plain freezing) and ditto for Safari. I use VM to load Windows. IE worked for a day after that but then it too began to freeze with simple tasks. I uninstalled 6.02 including the Library files and now everything works exactly as it did pre-FF. I wanted FF for chat ability and notification ability plus other things, but I can not see how an amateur computer person like myself can justify the anxiety created by this type of problem. I would love to be convinced to try again, but I don't blame anyone who has no interest in doing this. By the way -- I was having trouble with password issues, and I never did figure this out though there was a nice person who tried with one of them. Thanks. Maybe I'll use it in VM with IE but I hate opening and running VM for one program. At least I can have it there. Thanks again.

  • My Safari software has stopped working.  Every time I try to log in to the internet, I get an error msg dealing with an Apache server.  It just started to happen a week or so ago.  What's going on?

    I have a Safari web browser that I have used since I purchased my Mac in 2008.  Within the last week or so, I have been getting an error message, which says something like it cannot find the Apache back server or something like that.  As a result, I have not been able to enter the web via Safari.  I have Mac OSX, version 10.6.8.  In the past, I needed an update to my operating system software to view on-line videos.  Is there a similar problem with the operating software this time?  Or has Safari gone off the air.  I am utilizing Firefox to enter the web currently and I can continue to use it, but I would like to have a back-up web browser.  Can someone help?

    <<That may be so, but email is an inclusive part of the broadband package.
    If the broadband service  activated on a given date, then the included email facility should be working too. Anything else would be an altogether unacceptable situation for me...unless the broadband had been activated in advance of any agreed date.>>
    I totally agree with this. Never before have I signed up for a service where email has taken longer to be activated than the broadband connection, in fact, it's been the total opposite, all my past providers activated my email account before the broadband was activated and I was able to start using the address immediately so that by the time bb was enabled, I was ll and truly up and running.
    I do not want a hotmail account or any other type of email account, I want to use what I am paying for, btinternet.
    So far, am not a happy customer and am beginning to wonder if I should have gone with another provider.
    Sorry for the rant but I expect more from such a big company.

  • Safari and Skype stopped working simultaneously. Help!

    Hey,
    I am a complete tech noob here, I'm going to try and express my problem in as general/simple a way as I can. If any advice can be written with the fact that I don't even know how to manually insert commands with my macbook in mind, I'd appreciate it!
    I have a Macbook Pro using Mac OS X 10.6.5 (Now technically "updated" to 10.6.7. but with problems I will mention further on). I've only been using it for a year, and everything is in relatively good condition.
    However, just last night I've encountered problems with Safari and Skype. Safari opens fine, and if I don't type anything into the URL box and hit enter, then I can do all the clickings such as checking my bookmarks, history, etc. But once I type a URL in and hit enter, it loads a bit and immediately freezes (with that rainbow swirly thing). With Skype, it lets me open, logs into the interface, and lasts as far as me being able to see all the users that are online/offline on my contact list before shutting down (not just freezing like Safari, but disappears with the error message popping up.) I managed to download and install skype again. This time, nothing goes wrong until I click on a user name and open up the window to begin typing. Then, instead of just shutting down, it freezes.
    I have reset/shut down my laptop multiple times, and attempted to "reset" Safari, since a friend suggested that it might be some cookie problem. However, Safari freezes on me every time I attempt to make a reset. Since it's the default browser for mac, I can't make any software updates either (assuming that will fix anything that is).
    The two long error messages I get after I force quit Skype and Safari seem to be similar. I don't know if it'll be helpful for me to post them here since they're so long...but this is what my friend commented:
    "both safari and skype failing at the same time means something is going wrong with the OS system calls made by both applications. the stack traces you sent me also seem to suggest this. Firefox uses its own internal programming to do everything which is why it still works. Unfortunately I don't know enough about development on mac to give you an answer from stack traces.
    my best guesses would be something wonky in your font configuration or possibly graphics subsystem, windowing toolkit, or filesystem. it's a long shot but try repairing permissions and check the filesystem on your main partition in disk utility. I notice the safari stack trace suggests a failure at 18 HTTPCookieStorage::lookupAndCopyCookies() "
    I've already repaired permissions and verified my HD. Everything seems to be fine with my HD, but the problem persists.
    Another friend suggested that it might be problems with a program(?) called "Webkit". How do I go about fixing that?
    Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my computer and how to go about fixing it? I don't remember downloading anything between the span of it working and malfunctioning so I'm dumbfolded.
    Addendum:
    I installed the updates for 10.6.7 successfully (someone suggested I do this since my problem is an "internal" one). However, after the reset, the first thing that popped up after I logged back in was an error message saying "Softwareupdatechecker failed to open" or something like that. I think it opened and froze; hence the error message. That pretty much suggested that my Skype and Safari aren't fixed either (and they're not, still the same freezing problems).

    Here are the messages.

  • Links to excel file on safari page suddenly stopped working, but work in firefox.  Happened yesterday. Help!

    I have a webpage with links mapped from an icon to two excel files. They aren't working. I checked the html. it is identical to two links to .png files and the location is correct, but nothing happens when you click the link.  I have reset, emptied cache and thrown out the plists,
    The html reads:
    <img usemap="#Curio_Map" src="Steps%20in%20Detail(3D691625).png" />
    <map name="Curio_Map">
    <area href="Assets/7B8E04AB/Strategic%20Planning%20Detail%20Dairy.xlsx" shape="polygon" coords="455,66 844,66 844,296 455,296" >
    <area href="Assets/18C769C4/Initial%20questions%20for%20Strategic%20Planning.xls" shape="polygon" coords="14,71 431,71 431,293 14,293" >
    </map>
    The Assets folder is in the same folder as the index.html page with frames and the page within the frame.
    The html for the .png files that do work is:
    <img usemap="#Curio_Map" src="Supporting%20Doc(698C969A).png" />
    <map name="Curio_Map">
    <area href="Assets/9D8D3352/P%20of%20PDSA%20Altresco.pdf" shape="polygon" coords="22,126 102,126 102,192 22,192" >
    <area href="Assets/F5E05A53/Access%20Environment%20Altresco.png" shape="polygon" coords="21,45 103,45 103,88 21,88" >
    </map>
    Look the same to me!  Why does one work and the other not, and why did it happen all of a sudden?  Any thoughts?
    Dan

    It sounds like the page has somehow got stuck in the cache of
    a server
    somewhere. Delete the file from the server, and then call the
    page.
    Hopefullt you should then get a 404 error. Then FTP the page
    back. This
    should hopefully clear out the cache.
