Safari works extremely slow or become unresponsive

Hello,
My safari seems to be really slow, at times, unresponsive where i cant force quit and have to do a hard shut down on the keyboard. I thought it was my wifi connection but i have another laptop in the house that connects and surfs the web fine. Everytime i would open it, it would freeze up and the beach all would spin. Other application works fine but i dont have Firefox or chrome. I have a 2010 15" inch MacBook Pro. I tried doing a couple of solutions i found online such as clearing my cache in utilities, i even got the chance to open safari and clear history once, i also repaired disk permissions. Still, nothing worked for me. This problem began to start when i purchased a external hard drive to place all my iTunes music in it. It attempt to back up when i first installed it but i stopped it. Im not sure if that has to do with anything. I know a bit about computers but im no IT expert. Can someone please help find a solution? Much appreciated.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If there's no improvement, continue.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
Step 2
Repeat with this line:
{ sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
Step 3
{ launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -f -a TextEdit
Step 4
ls -1A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
You can then quit Terminal.

  • Pages on iPad2 is working extremely slow

Hi, I updated my iPad to iOS 8.1 but since then my Pages is working extremely slow, first in updating the new docs from iCloud Drive, then in being able to work in them. It takes about ten minutes just to get into one document. Can anybody give me a good suggestion in to solving this problem?

(Wow, really unethical, Apple took down my last post, so "rewording this more nicely" I guess)
Agreed. I honestly cannot begin to justify how irresponsible Apple has been over this. I have lost a computer tha may have been damaged by Yosemite, and lost some data through iWork and the apps are totally unusable for the most part. Two classes that require a presentation which I teach were impacted. This is threatening peoples' livelyhoods.
From what I have seen, this largely stems from problems with iCloud Drive. iWork apps crash CONSTANTLY and don't even function when there is an online connection, but turning off the functionality gives you a slight chance before he apps freeze, slow down, or become unusble again.
In the meantime, it seems Apple users are just stuck waiting till the next update. I couldn't even type this response without two crashes from Safari.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Safari is extremely slow to load pages & saving my bookmarks to my folders

why is safari so extremely slow in loading pages? it can just about load my e-mail, if I wait about 5 minutes & I cannot check my t mobile cell phone balance because it gets stuck loading the page.
Also I cannot get it to save bookmarks into my designated named bookmark folders anymore, it only will save to the bookmarks bar

I have also heard about the cover flow feature, but I do not see it in my safari, where is it?
Look at this picture and you'll find it. Just click on the marked area/button.

  • Mac working extremely slow

I have MacBook Pro from 2011 year with 8 GB RAM.
I changed hard drive to new one, with 7200 rpm and 16 MB cache, and fully reinstalled system from ESD disk (not from any backups). And the system working extremely slow, like running Windows 2000 on 486 computer.
It is difficult to write text, and actually impossible to make so easy things, like web surfing.
Here is activity monitor picture: actually nothing is running, but CPU full.
PS. Some times, I can see, that kernel_task consumes >300% of CPU.
    Looking for advises.
    Thank you.

There are quite a few reasons a computer will start to feel slow but the two most common are: an overly full hard drive and not enough memory.
If your computer seems nice and peppy when you first boot it up and then seems to slow down as it is used, memory is likely the culprit. Similarly, if you notice it slows down as you start up another program, the problem is too little memory (or too many programs in use). If this is the case adding more RAM is your answer.
Because programs and the operating system use the hard drive for temporary storage I've always recommended that users keep a good chunk of their hard drive empty. Drive sizes vary tremendously making it harder to recommend a specific amount but if less than 5% - 10% of your drive empty you may not be leaving enough room for virtual memory and various important cache files which can cause a computer to slow down. Move some files to another drive and see if that helps (media files are good candidates for removal since they tend to be large).
These aren't the only reasons a computer might be slow but they are the two I start with.

  • Photoshop working extremely slow

I just downloaded creative cloud yesterday. Now my photoshop cs6 and photoshop cc are both working extremely slow, and sometimes will just stop working. I have an iMac desktop. HELP!!!

A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CC", but something like CC2014.v.2.2) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).

  • Mac mini works extremely slow

    Hi
I have Mac mini that works extremely slow,
it starts to load the OS but turns really slow once the login is done, it takes about 30-40 min to load.
i did few tests like permissions verify and fix, then verify and repair disk which said that Macintosh HD is OK.
What should I do next? Its sounds like hardware issue - for my opinion its the HDD but I can't understand why when I use the Restore mode the computer works fast so maybe its OS issue related? Should I reinstall OSX?
what do you recommend for me as a Mac newbie user
    thanks a lot

The boot drive is failing, or you have some other hardware fault.
Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Safari 5 extremely slow and unstable,  feels like early beta

    Hi,
since i upgraded to safari 5 the browser is extremely slow on loading webpages, unresponsive and often can't establish any connection to websites at all. one time it even crashed.
the whole thing feels like an early beta. i have no addons or what so ever installed, safari 4 worked incredibly well before.
since i've read many similar postings concerning this issue i hope apple will be offering a fix soon...!

I have the same problems! .. Some times I have no internet connection, but if I start up Firefox or google chrome, I get internet connection.
Often for no reason Safari stops responding .. It's a shame b/c it's extremely fast vs Firefox
Seems like I have to stick to Chrome until a update follows
btw. Nice job on the look and feel on the Safari 5 expecialy the combined history search in the address line looking forward to a stable release

  • Safari is extremely slow loading web pages, i have to latest software, no updating needed

Safari is really slow loading internet pages and uploading images. I have the latest software update. I just purchased this mac book pro within the last 3 months..just frustrating that it's already this slow so soon....Any suggestions? I called tech support and nothing they walked me through helped. He was going to reinstall everything but I wanted to wait and see if there was anything else I could possible do before considering I just got this notebook, I hate to reinstall everything. It seems like there should be a simpler solution...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

my internet speeds are 35 mbps download and 6.35 mpbs upload, so it's not my internet connection.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have a wrong owner. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

  • Safari is Extremely slow loading pages, like Hotmail, eBay, CNN,

For the past few days, Safari has been extremely slow loading most all pages, especially Hotmail, eBay, CNN, etc. Apple support hasn't been able to help. Hve done all the normal stuff, Reset Safari, restarted, etc.... eventually reloaded Leopard, with all updates, 10.5.2. Still slow uploading pages. Have checked network with speedtest.net, Download 5019 kb/s, Upload 363 kb/s. Was told by everyone I asked, these were good speeds, "normal." But it takes 20 seconds - 60 seconds sometime to upload a page. Have watched "activity monitor" under network, "data sent" goes out fast, data received seems to come back but then stalls. I'm not sure of what numbers I should be getting on the return. Any suggestions????

READ my post, March 17, for answers. I read other post, March 15-08, by Toshinmac and March 17-08 post by Rudolf, answered by Hawaiian Starman and Klaus1. My problem decribed there, with Time-Warner/Roadrunner DNS settings. Followed advice... Problem Solved! Thanks to ALL for their input!!!! A Beachbum!

  • N72 working extremely slow

    Hi.
    I'm using an N72.
    1. For past few weeks it has become extremely slow. Most of the times it just hangs for some 10-15 seconds before it becomes operational.
    2. Also at times it stops reflecting any new dialed, missed, received calls status. I need to restart the phone before it again remembers the same.
I have around 8MB free in the phone memory and about 20MB free in the memory card.
Plz suggest some way as im facing a big problem because of this.

First try a hard reset if it make any difference.
(Backup phone contents before doing that by PC S).
If it still doesnt behave then check if it is having the latest SW installed on it by *#0000#.

  • Outlook 2010 (+ Exchange 2013) works extremely slow

We have a user that works with Outlook 2010 (on a RDS Server) that is connected with cache to Exchange 2013. The response of Outlook is extremely slow and we think because this user has a 15Gb mailbox. However, he refuses to delete any mail for various
reasons. Is there any way to speed up Outlook? The rest of the system works fine, it's just the email.

    Hi,
By "connected with cache to Exchange 2013", do you mean the user is using Cached Exchange mode? If not, please help the user switch to Cached Exchange mode to check the result. If the user has any shared folders, also cache those folders to check if it helps.
If we try to start Outlook in safe mode, will this issue persists? To open Outlook in safe mode, press Windows key + R to open the Run box, type
outlook.exe /safe and press Enter. If performance improves, check again to make sure that you disabled any Outlook add-ins that may affect performance.
In addition, please click File tab > Info > section Mailbox Cleanup and check your Exchange Quota information. We can also try to close Outlook,
rename the OST file, and then reopen Outlook to re-create the OST file.
