Safety Stock Methods SB, SZ and SM - When to apply what method?

Dear Experts,
i have searched the threads for a good explanation of safety stock methods (especially for safety stock methods SZ, SB and SM). I have to admit that i did not fully understand how the SM method works exactly. It would be great if you could possibly share an easy-to-understand example. Furthermore i am looking for a way to determine for what rawmaterial_location combination we need to use what Safety Stock Method (SB, SZ, SM). Maybe you could share a few examples in terms of raw materials, characteristics for these raw materials, what method to choose and reasoning for choosing this method.
Thank you very much for your support in advance!
I am looking forward to your answers!
Best regards,
Christian

Hi
Please refer OSS note 504253 . This will give you an idea about the safety stock methods. This note also has links to other notes that explain safety stock planning

  • CIF Exit for updating APO field SAFETY STOCK METHOD from R/3.

    Hi All,
I have a requirement for updating filed "Safety stock Method " in APO from R/3.
We can do it through transactions CFM1 and then CFM2 in R/3.
This happens when we make changes in MM02 in R/3,
    for fields,
In ECC, Goto MRP2 view in material master
    Safety stock (EISBE)
    Safety time/act cov. (SHZET)
    STime period profile (SHPRO)
Currently, we are using a exit : Exit_saplcmat_001,
but it only gets triggered when we make changes in safety stock and safety time.
where as if we make changes only in STime period profile, and don't make any change in safety stock and safety time,
in this case the exit is not triggered.
Now, we are looking for an exit, which will get triggered even when there is no change in safety stock and safety time,
where as there is change in STime period profile.
Please suggest what can be used.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rahul A

    Hi,
You may need to include the field in some structure also.
eg.  for sales order interface we add z fields to  structure /SAPAPO/KOMGO

  • Select-options and Parameters, when to use what?

    Hi gurus,
I have been using Parameters for long. Now I want to choose a range of values, which I need to retrieve from database.
I tried using select-options. Can't I use 2 parameters that is parameter1 and parameter2 and mention query BETWEEN para1 AND
para2, and when I use NO INTERVALS and NO EXTENSION together, it behaves same like parameter, then why did SAP gave these
    extensions.

    Hi friend,
Simple differences between Select-options and parameters.
    Select-Options Uses keyword 'for'
    Parameters Uses keywords 'like', 'type'
    Select-Options  Uses operator 'in'
    Parameters Uses operator '='
    Select-Options  Provides ranges for selection
Parameters  No ranges only single value
    Select-Options Creates selection table
    Parameters No selection table
Select-Options  When i/p blank all records selected
Parameters   When i/p blank none is selected
    Note:
Select options can act as parameters by using 'no-extension' 'no intervals', but all records will be selected when i/p is blank unlike parameters.
    Might be helpful..
    Thanks...

  • Safety stock planning and use of CTM in APO

I want to use advanced safety stock planning and CTM in APO for a range of finished products.
For advanced safety stock planning, the available safety stock methods are AS, BS, AT, BT.
For CTM, I want to use time based safety stock method MB.
So how can the use of these different methods be reconciled?
    Ady advice appreciated...

    Hi,
    Please check following SDN threads:
Re: CTM ignores Extended Safety Stock Methods (like BS, BT etc...)
Please also check OSS note 426563 .
For Planning a  time phased safety stock ( e.g. when using advanced safety stock methods from SNP) CTM provides two alternative methods  which have their own restrictions:
    1. Standard saftey stock  Planning .The standard safety stock method of CTM consists of two internal runs of CTM engine which are not visible for the user. Because of this two runs it is not possbile to consider decreasing safety stock. CTM interval planning can be used herein.
    2. Alternative saftey  stock  method (Control parameter SSTOCK_MODE). This method carries out only one run.  However there are some restrictions. For details of the above, please check oss note 1413545.

  • Negative stock and Stock below safety stock

    Hi,
Both negative stock and stock below safety stock create procurement proposals - internal or external.
But what is the difference between them?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    NEGATIVE STOCK:
Negative stock function used when you want to post Goods Issue quantity that larger than the book quantity.
For example: you have stock of material A000 = 90 qty and you want to Goods Issue with 100 qty.
Negative stock function is not relevant for the procurement, It can only use for the excess qty issue to to the production than stock qty. System will not create PR .
You need to do configuration setting to use this function.
Cust: In customizing negative stock are must allow for a valuation area, Plant and Storage location level.
In addition you can set the special stock at plant level such as
    Consignment
    Material provided to vendor
    consignment stock at customer
    sales order stock
    project stock
    returnable packaging with customer
    returnable transport packaging
Application: The indicator for negative stock is with the storage data in the material master mast be maintained.
Note: It is possible for unrestricted use and blocked stock only.
With the standard price, There are no special features to the negative stock. But with the Moving average price , a price diff account can be posted to when goods are received.
    STOCK BELOW SAFETY STOCK.
The Safety stock should cover any excess material consumption that may occur during the replenishment lead time as well as the normal requirements when deliveries delayed.
The Safety stock is therefore part of reorder point.
You do not required any special setting to use safety function. Just need to maintain the safety stock level in the material master.
If stock reduce below safety stock, system will create procurement  proposal i.e Planned order or Purchase requisition.
I hope it will clear your query.

  • Safety stocks and STO's

    Hi everyone,
I am new to APO but I am writing a functional spec. The safety stocks and STO's obtained after running SNP optimizer must be sent to third party system. I have to do the field mapping. Can somebody tell which table and technical name I should use. I know we can use /sapapo/rrp3 but I am not sure. Can somebody help...

    Hi Bopanna,
We are using version SCM5.0 and a using planning book which is copy of standard planning book 9ASNP94. We have assigned correct KF function (3003) to safety stock key figure. I stillc nat figure out whats wrong

  • Dynamic safety stock in PP/DS

    Hello,
My question is about how PP/DS uses dynamic safety stock. I use safety stock keyfigure in SNP to calculate dynamic safety stock and make it available for PP/DS. When I run planning heuristic in PP/DS, does heuristic go and execute the macro?
Let me give an example case.
A is header, B is component of A. When I make a full planning run in PP/DS, first A is planned, then using dependent demands from A, B is planned. While planning B, safety stock also must be calculated. Is this process an inteactive process between SNP and PP/DS? I mean, PP/DS creates planned orders  for A, then dependent demand generated for B. When it comes to plan B, heuristic calls SNP and macros calculate SS and SS is used in PP/DS heuristic as requirement? Is the process like that? or Do i have to run SNP either online or bacgrounf first, calculate SS there, and then run PP/DS heuristic?
    Thanks,
    E

    Somnath, Harish;
Thanks for your help. I read all these notes and threads. But I could not find the answer to my question.
First of all, I am using SS method MB. not an extended safety stock method.
I want to implement the same SS calculation as in R/3 coverage profile. In coverage profile, average daily requirement is calculated using X weeks of demand, and  Y days of SS is calculated. I want to do the same calculation in APO.
We are using PP/DS for short term planning. Here my question is in which way SS is calculated while running planing heuristic in PP/DS. I listed 2 possible ways, can you please tell which way PP/DS work?
    1) PP/DS will run for the example BOM structure I gave before. So, in this example, I need to run planning for header material first in order to find dependent demand for component. Then I need to make planning for component. If I calculate SS in SNP before starting to run PP/DS for header material, SS for component is calculated in SNP using the demand calculated before PP/DS planning run. Is this how dynamic SS works?
    2) or when I run planning for component, does PP heuristic call SNP macro and calculates SS with the most updated demand situation?
    Thanks,
    Ergul

  • Dynamic Safety Stock wih Safety daysu2019 supply

    Hi
In APO PP/DS, my compagny want to set up for several products,  two safety stock :
1- Dynamic Safety Stock in order to prevent when actual usage exceeds forecasted demand
2 - Safety day's to prevent when time it takes to receive a replenishement shipment exceeds the projected lead time (usual problem in our business)
For this two cases we use
    1- MB
    2 -SZ
So my question, how it's possible to mix this 2 safety stock methods? Is possible to create a custom method or custom heuristic in order to do that?
    Thanks for your help
    Youri

    Hi
We have ever try without success other solutions as :
    SM and MM
MB with Good Receipt Time in APO = ( Good Receipt in R/3 + Safety Days )
The only solution seem AT/BT method but we can't make difference between safety stock and safety days during monitoring
    Thanks for your help

  • Safety stock requirement generation

    Hi,
We are using report /SAPAPO/RRP_SR_ATP_GENERATE to generate safety stock requirement.
This report calls up the SAP standard heuristic SAP_PP_018 which has the BADI /SAPAPO/RRP_SFTY_STK (BAdI for Safety Stock Heuristic)
The scenario and requirement is -
    1. The safety stock element should be a custom category (SR is standard). No issue here. This is configured and the requirement element gets generated with custom category after running the report.
    2. This element is included in relevant GATP scope of checks.
    3. The issue is - if some one runs the report with standard ATP category SR in selection this demand element replaces the element with custom category which can be seen in product view. So as I understand at any given point in time there will be only one ATP category which will exist as far as safety stock is concerned.
    4. What we want is the Safety Stock requirement element with custom ATP category should be separated out so when someone run the report with SR it will create an additional element.
What is the behavior/use of SR requirement element in other modules like SNP/PPDS.
    Thanks in advance,
    Yogesh

    Hi Yogesh,
When Method UPDATE_IO_NODES from BAdI /SAPAPO/RRP_SFTY_STK is called, you can see the already existing safety stock requirements in internal table CT_OLD_REQ.
Additionally, you can see the new or changed safety stock requirements in CT_ORDER_METHOD.
Those entries in CT_OLD_REQ which do not contain a corresponding entry in CT_ORDER_METHOD are always deleted in standard are the Safety Stock Requirements that will be deleted.
In order to prevent this, a possibility is to delete the requested entries from CT_OLD_REQ.

    Tiago

  • Safety Stock (ABAP Report)

    Hello to All,
We have a problem regarding Safety Stock report (ABAP Report).  The program is designed to generate material's Plant/Sloc and Unrestricted Stock versus Safety Stock.  The report was working properly in DEV, QAS and PROD server.  Then another feature was requested to be added, the report should also eliminate or not display all materials that was marked as Flag for Deletion.  When the transport request for this enhancement was transported and tested in DEV and QAS server, the report is running properly.  But when transported in PROD server, the report only generates two material codes and doesn't list the other materials.
    Regards,
    Ann

    Hello,
Thank you for the reply, I have checked the Safety Stock in the material and also the flag for deletion indicator... We have analyzed that the program needs to be reviewed on the part of "Flag for Deletion" indicator when eliminating records in the report list.
    Thank You again.

  • Safety stock as per location possible ?

I want to maintain a buffer stock at a storage location which is not main storage location of material. An automatic reservation should be created if stock level goes down.
    Is it possible ?

Yes it is possible by defining MRP at storage loc level with reorder point and maintain the safety stock at sub storage location.
When you run MRP, if the stock is below safetry stock and reorder point levele system will create a reservation from mainstorage location to sub storage loction
Hence in MRP 4 view  forplant and storage loc maintaine - maintain the setting MRP carriedout sepereately in the storage location.
    Please come back if required

  • Reg Mapping KANBAN - safety stock

    Hi
    This is Regarding KANBAN
Business scenario: Container will have safety stock maintained, Procurement will trigger only when stock in container goes below safety stock. not when container is empty.
We dont want system to calculate KANBAN quantity
Please suggest how i can map this case in System.
    Thanks in adavnce

    Hi,
I don't think that this concept is support by existing SAP functionality. There's no way you can define safety stock per KANBAN container.
Your concept fits to working with 1 container. Instead you could work with 2, maybe smaller, containers, and then instead of safety stock you can use the EMPTY and FULL signals in a standard way.

  • Issue with -ve safety stock not allowing items of smaller demand to be isue

We have a material with  a safety stock value of 300 with only 119 available in inventory.  Looking at MD04 the available qty immediately goes negative (-181). We have requirement of 30 but was prevented by the system from ussing the material - no iventory available message.  The workaround, which is not acceptable, was to reduice the safety stock to zero, create the delivery and then re-instate the safety stock level back to 300.
So the issue is that  material could not be issued to PrdOrds.  Is there a possibilty that we have some missing config / master data settings that are preventing the issuing of material when safety stock is factored in and available quantity is less than zero?

From planning perspective, there are two options available for your scenario.
You may try if the dynamic safety stock works for you. You may have to configure the minimum, maximum  and target stock levels. The system calculates the average daily requirements of the material and determines the proposals.
If your business process demands only static ss, you can configure the % share of ss that can be used for smaller requirements. Check the config node Production >> MRP >> Planning >> MRP calculation >> Stocks >> Define SS availability. This way the smaller requirements would be considered for use from SS by planning. You will have to define the % share of SS that can be used by planning based on MRP groups.
