Same asset, different projects.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can offer help.
I have multiple fcp projects on my local drive and all the assets. All of the project files share a set of assets (watermark images, .mov files, etc.) When I import each project file into FCS (which stores onto a shared network), all the assets are uploaded as well. That's great, but...
...those files that are shared among the multiple project files have been backed up to FCS more than once, taking up extra space on the shared network. Any ideas on how I can work around this?
How to I backup a project file without uploading the same assets that are shared among other project files? Is there a way I can let FCS know to reference the shared assets across multiple FCP projects?

You have to set up your devices correctly and upload to the right place. For instance if my media is on my XSAN in a certain folder, then I set up that folder on my XSAN as an edit-in-place device via the pref pane (easier to set up ). When I set up the device, I put a scan on the device so that the assets are ingested into FCSVR. I then use these assets in a FCP project or maybe I have already existing FCP projects, and when I want FCSVR to manage these projects, I simply upload to FCSVR but I set the destination as my EIP device where the media is already at. Only the Element proxies (Element thumbnail, poster frame, Element clip proxy and edit proxy if I have that enabled) will be newly created since I already have the main assets (and it's proxies) in the FCSVR catalogue. Otherwise, if my media is on the XSAN device but I accidentally upload to Library or Media devices, then I will have duplicated media on those devices too.
so basically in your case, I guess your FCP projects are linking to your local drive? But you already have copies of these same assets somewhere else (that were already ingested into FCSVR)? If your media in your FCP project is linking to your local drive and even if you upload to the device where the copies are located, it's going to see these as different assets (they will have different Asset IDs which you can see in the asset's Get Info window when you double-click on the asset in FCSVR catalogue) and therefore you're going to be duplicating your media. You will be able to tell because if you actually look into your Device folder, you are going to see a new folder for this new project (the folder will be named the FCP project name) and inside that folder will be the asset from your local hard-drive. It's going to have the same filename but it's definitely an additional asset. So anyways, I hope I understood this correctly Let us know how it works out for you!

  • Two different projects in the same machine sharing some objects

    Hello dear all
    I got this scenario:
    Same machine;
    2 clients (70 and 80);
    2 Projects
    -     AR Payment Process (prototype) for an existing company
    -     New company configuration
Coding Block (e.g.: for experiences in AR - prototype )
In the end - same Production machine
    Projects running simultaneously
AR payment project (prototype) > New company configuration (in terms of duration)
    Description
I got 2 projects running at the same time. At least somewhere in the time they will run simultaneously. One will consist in a new AR-Payment process for an existing company, and another one consisting in a creation of a new company.
So, Iu2019m afraid that those projects cannot run simultaneously once for payment process we will use coding block for sure.
We will have to change some standard tables (e.g. SPL Table) with different fields (two, to be more precise) u2026.. We do not have time to make one, and after another one, and then put them together and adjust it.
So, at this point Iu2019m not pretty sure about the direct influences, and in case of influence occur, what can be the solutions to avoid them.
Is there any way of controlling all the possible changes that will be made in the shared objects?
We really need to run these projects.
    Thank you all in advance

The fastest way I can advice is...
    1. edit your credits sequence (the clips you want to keep going as your credits roll)
    2. nest the clips in a new sequence then you have a timeline with a nested sequence in your track 1...
    3. Select your nested sequence in the track 1 and use the motion tab to scale/rotate/crop/move your image wherever you want in the canvas...
    3. create a second track for your rolling credits...
    4. create your rolling credits
    5. if you have different clips for your rolling credits you may want to nest these too...
    6. select your rolling credits and use the motion tab again to scale/crop/rotate/move your credits wherever you want in the canvas
    Hope this help...

  • Invoking a process in a different project & deployed on same engine

    Hi,
I would like to know if we would be able to invoke a process with is already deployed in the engine from a new process. Please note that both the processes would be in different projects but will be deployed on the same engine. Also, we would like to avoid using any polling activity for this purpose and would want the process to get invoked like a process creation activity. Please let me know if anyone has tried this or have any idea for dealing with such situations.
    Thanks,
    Sree

You can do this using the process interfaces. The steps are.
1.- Create a process interface of the process that you are going to call that is in Project 1, select the process right button and generate process interface.
2.- Export this interface and import in your project (Project 2) that is going to be where you will call the process.
3.- Put a process creation activity that and put as the related process this interface.
In this way when you publish both projects in enterprise the interface is not going to be deployed, it will be deployed the real process and when the call is made it will call the real process of Project 1.
    Hope it helps

  • How to Use Same Asset Number with Different Sub-number

    Hi
We want to sell some assets and buy them back on lease. We want to use same Asset number with different sub-number under the same company code. This new asset will be under different Depreciation Area (Statistical).
We use external numbes for assets . And same asset number range is used by all compnay codes.
Please suggest whether this is possible & how.
    With Regards,
    Nitin

    Hi,
Go to field status for asset master data section and change the field status to optional for field Deactivation date, then follow the below steps.
You can create an sub asset number to an asset, which is already deactivated by retirement as like normal sub asset creation with AS11.(While creating sub number, you need to remove cap date and deactivate dcate field manually from asset master)
With this you can get new asset number as same as your old retired asset main number and but sub number will be different.
To post to diff dep area, other than 01, then you first create an acq transaction type, which will post only to specific areas and then use the new asset number in ABSO to post acq with your custom TTY.
I have tested and found working well in my system............Try now in your test client

  • Seperate server log for different projects on same domain

    Hi All,
Could someone help me initiate code to seperate server log of domain for different projects running on the domain.
For example, If I have two projects 1,2 in the same domain, then I should get two server log files for each project.
    Regards,
    SunnyPhani

iCal Server sends invitations to internal users too if you remove the email addresses of your internal users under "Info" in Workgroup Manager.
So the Open Directory does not have an entry for the users with your internal domain, which makes iCal Server see the user as an external one.

  • How do I view multiple images from different projects at the same time?

    Hello
I've been trying to find the answer in the user manual, but no luck so far.
I did find how to open 2 projects at once, but I can only see one image at a time in the viewer and I have to keep going back and forth between projects to compare images. (These are scans of old photos and I want to eliminate the ones that are poorer quality, so need to compare numerous images from 2 sets of scans)
How can I view an image from one project at the same time as an image from another? I know that it can be done in the same project by apple-clicking the second, third etc image, but this doesn't work if the images are from different projects.
    Thank you
    Elizabeth

    Thank you again Tony
I've now created an album, independent of the projects, and dragged test images into it and it does just the job I needed. Now i just need to keep my brain sorted with which ones are which while i'm working

  • Different Projects, Same Event

I didn't realize it initially, but a few videos were imported into the same event. When I look at the project library, they are shown separately, but is there any way I can export the different projects/events into their own event folders, or am I stuck having them all together?
    Thanks!

For two or more machines to access the same media you will need to look into a SAN setup. XSAN, SANmp, Meta SAN. None of these is cheap. The drives need to be Fibrechannel Raids...huge expense.
The cheaper route would be to get another set of drives and clone the footage from one set to another. Copy over everything...and name the new drives the same name, so there is no re-linking issues.

  • Dynamic link confusing two separate AE compositions in PPro from different projects

I am using CS5 Master Collection for Windows 7 (64 bit) on an HP Pro desktop (Intel core 2 duo, 6Gb RAM). The tower has two hard drives installed (no RAID). CS5 is installed on the original C drive along with the OS, but the working files, footage etc are all on the larger, secondary F drive.
I am working on a DVD project consisting of several seperate PPro projects. Each project has been colour corrected in AE using dynamic linking. Recently two of my projects suddenly became mixed up, by which I mean the video (not the audio) from one AE composition in one project has taken the place of another in another project. The clip remains the same length, but the link apears to be referencing the wrong clip during playback. Interestingly, there are two clips on the track above the affected clip that fade out and in at either end, during the dissolves between clips, the correct footage plays. It is only when the clip plays by itself that the problem occurs. The next clip also has the same error, though the problem only occurs for half the clip and then suddenly corrects itself. Just to be clear, All clips have been rendered, there are no more than two video tracks on the sequence, and I have tried replacing the composition from the asset menu (in which the clip plays back correctly), but the problem remains in the sequence.
I hope that descrition is clear enough. My guess is some kind of file path error in the dynamic link, perhaps due to the separate hard drive. But I really wouldn't know. I'm very pressed for time right now and I'd prefer not to go against workflow and re-edit a new composition in AE, I would also like to understand what is going on in case it happens again.
Any help with ths problem would be appreciated,
    J

Thanks Colin, I tried what you suggested with both the AE Project that it should be referencing and the AE project it is erroneously referencing but both failed to fix the issue. Its as if a hidden clip were laid over the top of the one I want to play. Frustrating.

It's not the comps that are the problem; it's the project file names themselves. You can have all the comps in a project named the same thing, and it'll be fine, but naming projects incrementally is an issue. After Effects includes a versioning function (Save and Increment) that will create a new AE project file with a serial number, e.g. AE Project 01, AE Project 02, etc. This is all well and good if you're just working in After Effects, but Dynamic Link gets confused and will usually start looking at the later project file for comps. That will just create a big mess, as you've found. Changing the names of the project files won't help things relink automatically properly, but it can help you fix things. Make all your DL AE comps offline in your Pr projects, and name your AE projects in a manner that is not serial (give them more random names). Select your offline AE comps, and right-click > Link Media, and point to the new AE project. Things should link up correctly then--but if they don't, you'll just have to remove all the AE comps from your Pr project, reimport the comps from the newly-named AE project, and replace them. It's a pain but it'll probably just keep getting worse if you don't.

  • How do I make my animation look the same in different browsers?

    Hi!
When I play my animation in different browsers it don't look the same as in the preview. In IE some of the parts of the animation have disappeared and in Chrome the pats are no longer in their right places. See picture below.
How do I do to make the animations look the same in different browsers?
(In the end I want to use the animations in my captivate 8 project. )

Ah, found the issue, the problem is with the name of the two images,
genomförande    (instead you can use genomforande)
Grå bakgrund     (instead you can use grabakgrund)
Seems like IE is having issue with those special characters.

  • Can I work on a different project in After Effects while rendering another (AE) project in Media Encoder?

(I'm using the current AE CC 2014)... I've tried twice to start working on a project in After Effects while a DIFFERENT project is rendering in Media Encoder. Both times it (Media Encoder) hung up/crashed. I thought the point of a separate encoder program was so I COULD work on another project in AE at the same time another project was rendering in Media Encoder.
Am I doing something wrong, or do I just have to WAIT for the encoding in Media Encoder to finish before I can do other things in AE?
[I tried searching through help. If I it's there... I just missed it.]
Thanks (in advance) for the help.

  • Using the same Asset Master Record for similar assets

    Dear all,
I would like to ask if it is possible to use the same asset master record for multiple assets which are similar. The assets will be posted in different periods / fiscal years and therefore the depreciation would change and be charged according to the useful life of the individual assets posted to the same master record and which in turn will vary according to periods / fiscal year posted.
For example, an asset master record is created for Vehicles. The 1st vehicle with a useful life of 4 years is depreciated at the start of the year for 4 years. The second vehicle is purchased on 6 months after on the 1st June using the same asset master record. However the depreciation is not worked out over the same useful life of the previous vehicle but is extended for a further 6 periods. Is this possible and how is it done.
Many thanks for any feedback and help.
    Thanks
    PRG

    Dear Peter
What is the issue in case you created separate Asset Master for each Vehcile ? Is there any specific need for you to accommodate all the assets in one single asset master ?
I don't think it is correct method as per Company's Act. Over and above, how would you plan for the Fixed Assets Register in the given situation ?

  • Redistributing Large Amounts of Media to Different Project Files

    Hello
I'm working on a WWI documentary that requires an extremely large amount of Media. I was just wondering, if (besides exporting hundreds of QT files), perhaps just capturing all of this media, (spread out), into several FCP Project Files?
In the screen shot below, note that there are 2 FCP projects open at one time. Why? Because I thought it might help re-distrtibuting all the captured media into more than just one FCP Project file. Is this advisable? Would creating more FCP files containing more and media actually be better than capturing soooo many captured archival clips into just one main FCP Project file?
    Or
Should I be exporting 'Non-Self Contained' files to be re-imported back into the Project?
    Screen Shot;
    http://www.locationstudio.net/Redistribute-1.jpg
    Thanx
    Mike

It is absolutely advisable. This keeps project sizes down to manageable levels. This is one of the tips I give in my tutorial DVD on Getting Organized with Final Cut Pro.
Bear in mind, that if your footage and sequences are in different projects, you cannot match back to the clip in the Browser. Once a clip is cut into a sequence that resides in a different project, the link from that media and the original clip in it's original project is broken. That can be a pain, so I try not to break up projects unless I have to. And LARGE projects I find that I have to.
ALthough it can still be a pain. When you need to find the footage that you know is in the same bin as that clip...and you don't know what that bin is? Sorry...match back doesn't work. So, just a caviat.

  • Sharing custom classes between different projects

I'm using different projects as modules for a main
application. I'm trying to use a custom class to share data between
the modules. I've been unable to share the custom data's variables.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks for the help!!
    Carlos

You need to read up on ApplicationDomains. When your
main/first SWF has been loaded by the Flash Player it is put into
an ApplicationDomain - this is the parent domain. When a Module is
loaded it is put into a child domain.
If your main SWF has a Button defined, and your Module also
has a Button defined, the Module's Button definition is ignored -
the first class definition loaded wins.
The parent domain cannot see into the child domain. Any data
residing in the Module is not available to the parent and to any
siblings because they too are loaded into separate domains.
Suppose Module wants to use an HBox and the HBox class was
not loaded by the main SWF. Now another Module is loaded, it too
wants to use HBox. Since the HBox class was loaded by the first
Module it will not be loaded by the second Module. However, the
second Module won't be able to use the HBox because it resides in a
different domain. If the main SWF had loaded the HBox, both
children can use it - the Flash Player first searches for a class
in the current ApplicationDomain, and if it is not there, goes to
    the parent domain.
The same is true for data - the parent domain should load the
data so it can be shared by all of the child domains/Modules.
You can load Modules into the same domain as the parent, but
you'll have to read the documentation for that. This has a couple
of drawbacks because data loaded by a Module will clobber data
loaded by the main SWF, but it can work if you are careful.

  • Captivate 7 - link different project

    Hi everyone,
I don't know if my question is at the correct location.  I'm sorry if not...
I have a problem with my Adobe Captivate 7 project.  It used to be one big e-learning, but now I broke it into different smaller modules.
Module A - Welcome:  this module is a navigation page.  User can choose to enter a specific module.  Clicking on a button  -> 'on succes': open another project.
Module B - D: the different content modules with at the end, again 2 options -> go to the next module or open the welcome module
When publishing I got the alert saying that all my files should be located in the same folder.  And I guess this is where my problem can be found....I cannot save the projects in the same folder, because all the subfolders (which are automatically generated when publishing) standard have the same name...
SO, in brief my question is:how can I link different modules without using an LMS ??
PS: I published the modules as Html files.
    Thx for the help !

You should DEFINITELY publish each project to be in a separate folder, otherwise you can encounter lots of conflicts with files that may share the same name but be applicable only to a different project.
You should be able to use the Project End option to call the HTM file of another project, but you will need to ensure the link is correctly formatted as a Relative Link so that you the links will still work correctly no matter where you copy the files.  This process is known as Daisy Chaining.  However, you will need to ensure the content is served from a web server over HTTP and not from a LAN server.  On LAN servers or local drives (CD ROM drives too) daisy chained links will not work unless every end user configures their Flash Global Security settings to trust the publish folder location containing all of the files.
