Same Environment variables?
Hi,
I am creating two environments with two different versions of Forte on
same server, can we keep all the environment variables same except port
number. Will this create problems in future if we have to connect the
environments? As usual your help is appreciated. Thanks.

It shouldn't be a problem to share environment variables between environments.
But, you may run into variable-dependency problems very quickly like, for e.g.,
FORTE_ROOT, FORTE_NS_ADDRESS, FORTE_GC_SPECIAL which you may want to have
different values in each environment. Not to mention that it's even more
confusing when the same application is running in two different environments and
expecting different values in some application-specific variables on the same
machine.
You are better off by launching the environments with two different logins on
the same machine. This would reduce the interdepedencies.

Same environment - different prints
Hello,
I've got an issue with a print, a CAD drawing where different lines are missing. Funny thing: another installation (same hardware, same adobe version) does it properly. Settings seem to be the same.
It's not a general problem! Other documents work fine. Was hoping that an update (10.1.3 to 11.0.0) might help, but but it didn't.
When I use foxit instead of adobe reader it works!
Now I'm thinking to completely clean the settings to default. How can I do that? Is there an option (preferences) or do I have to delete certain files?

Issues with Indirect xml configuration using environment variable
My package is not retrieving the the connection strings from the xml file setup through indirect configuration. It is using the connection string directly from the connection manager in the package. Steps below,
Package-1 has Connection Manager with server : dev, database: Test
Setup indirect xml configuration : XML file contains the connection string. Environment variable contains the path to the xml.
Build and deploy on different server (prod).
Create the same environment variable in prod server.
Change conenction string in xml file.
Run the package: package tries to connect to dev instead of prod.
Change the connection string in the connection manager directly in the package. Build and deploy. Works now - connects to prod as expected.
For some reason my package is not reading from the xml file.

The "It is using the connection string directly from the connection manager in the package" means the package fails to configure from the conn string in the env. variable.
You may see it as a warning in the log if you have one enabled.
The env variable should have the path to the config file, the config file should be parametrized to get the connection to it via the variable, this is the proper scenario.

Environment Variables in a single host same user two Oracle homes OAS
Hello All.
I've been googleing and looking over otn site but I cannot find solution to my question that, perhaps, is pretty easy.
I have an OAS 10g installation in a Linux single node.
I've made the installation the INFRA and the MT with the same user (oracle)
If I set the ORACLE_HOME in the oracle user .bash_profile my command lines will work just for the ONE of the Oracle Home (the one pointed in the profile).
I have two solutions:
1. Make the .bash_profile dynamic. that is to program like a menu to ask what Environment Variables to load (infra's or MT's.)
2. Make like .bat files to just call them and set whatever I need.
Sounds simple, but I have no idea how to make or program any of them. I am pretty much a newbie in unix shell script programming.

So , in any case, you are limited to one single database and one instance. As Paul mentioned, using different case, you may be able to achieve this but that still can't be called a true test as on *nix, case does matter and ORCL and orcl are going to be considered as two different databases.

How do I use Embed with an environment variable in an Actionscript AIR project Flash Builder 4.7
I am using Flash Builder 4.7 to build an Actionscript AIR project. The project embeds a number of png files from my local directory and I have been using absolute paths which all works fine.
I have a laptop with which I want to start developing the same project - I set up a git repository that both the laptop and main pc can pull from and so I can get the source where I need it and push it back to the central repository.
My problem is that the absolute paths for the embed commands don't work on the laptop as it has a different filesystem setup (Windows 8 with one drive as opposed to Windows 7 with a SSD and a data drive). I thought the solution would be as easy as using an environment variable to specify the path which could then point to a different physical directory on both machines, i.e:

I did a bit of research and there was quite a lot mentioned about setting up resource directories using path variables which I worked through but I just can't get it to compile. The Actionscript compiler just won't find the png files however I specify the path. I tried something with a FLEX project and the compiler didn't complain but I think this is because the compiler for FLEX uses a different convention.
[Embed(source ="/Project Name/DEVELOPER_RESOURCES/graphics/are/here.png"] works with FLEX but not Actionscript.
So does anyone have a recipe for using the Embed command referencing assets using an environment variable that works across multiple machines with different file structures?I managed to find a solution on Windows which was to use symlinks and absolute paths. You an basically point one directory to another so I did something like:
mklink c:\developer_resources c:/the/local/path/to/my/resources
and then reference all resources as c:\developer_resources\...
Now as long as a developer machine has the right link (from c:\developer_resources to the place where the resources are kept) then it seems to work.
This doesn't however work for Mac and certainly isn't a solution for passing files between Mac and windows -

My basic requirement is ,i want to show a report out put in a BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE Language.
For this purpose i configured the report_server.conf file like

See Note:231051.1, Dynamic Environment Switching In Reports 9i for an example of setting your environment variables at runtime. It uses REPORTS_PATH, there is also an entry for NLS_LANG in the reports.sh file (in UNIX). This setting is causing the conflict when you try to set it at runtime.
I think you have to remove the entry from reports.sh config file and then you will have to pass the parm at runtime everytime.

has an exe component and from exe we invoke a method, which is defining in dll, and that dll is developed in MFC VC6.0. In the dll we have a method which downloads images from another system after making socket connection. But every time we are getting Error
code 7, it is not giving desire result while same method is working from another exe from same environment from same location. And also me dll is deployed on many systems and giving proper output from same application.
Already Attempt: - Because error is coming on
client side so what we did, we created a driver in C# which invokes same method from same environment(on client machine) using same dll and we are astonished because it worked fine there.

We are not able to figure out root cause because nothing is coming in windows event logs but what I did, for finding the problem line, I wrote logs on each line and found the exact line in application exe which is not working,
actually it is not executing Create () method,

on client side so what we did, we created a driver in C# which invokes same method from same environment (on client machine) using same dll and we are astonished because it worked fine there.

Code description: - From int GETImage_MT() method
we call Initialize() method and pass client machine IP and Port and there we call ConnectTS() method, In
this method we Create() method and finally it returns the error code as mention in macro 7.

Note: - According to logs, problem is coming in Create method(). Here
0 is errorMessage received in catch block. And from catch block it returns macro value 7. And when we run same method individually from same machine, same environment through same dll from different exe, it is working fine and we are facing any kind of problem.
While same problem application was working properly earlier but now continuously it showing problem.
Kindly assist us to resolve the issue. -
Environment variables from ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist not read?

I have a problem defining environment variables that should be visible to all my user processes, not only Terminal. According to the Apple documentation, I need to create a file ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist and define my variables in there.
Below you can see the exact paths and file name, together with the contents of the plist file:

How do I clear environment variables in 10.6
I am having some difficulty in configuring custom paths with my environment variable, environment.plist. In setting up some of my software, I am trying to configure custom paths so that I can eventually store preferences on the server for all users to access the same tools. I had this working up until last week, when I installed a second piece of software, that modified my environment.plist file, which now doesn't work at all.
My original environment.plist file, which is located in ~/MacOSX, was as follows:

JamesI hope you made a typo in your post and meant ~/.MacOSX. You typed ~/MacOSX, i.e., without the leading dot.
At any rate $PATH is a predefined shell variable so I suspect you cannot define that one with this environment.plist mechanism. The "proper" way to set up such things is with a ~/.bash_profile, ~/.bash_login, ~/.profile, or IMO, best of all. ~/.bashrc. These are scripts the shell looks for during launch (somewhat depending on whether it's a login shell or not -- see the bash reference manual).
If bash is executed interactively it will also first look for /etc/profile. And it will cause a $PATH variable to be created. So that is probably the definition you are seeing all the time until you create an appropriate startup script of your own (e.g., ~/.bashrc) to override or modifiy the existing $PATH variable.
Note, I may have paraphrased a lttile too much so see section 6.2 Bash Startup Files in the bash reference documentation for the complete proper description of the order these files are used. If you have the developer tools installed look for bashref.html. Otherwise it's online here.
Finally, if you look at /etc/profile you will see it attempting to execute /usr/libexec/path_helper -s. Try that in terminal and see if that isn't the $PATH definition you are currently seeing. -

I see that only ORACLE_HOME variable value was got, question is why, of course, variable values are already defined as user variables.
Variables PATH_MODULO and FILELOG was defined using windows maintenance variable method, that is :
1.- settings
2.- system
3.- advanced options
4.- environment variables
