Same issue all over but no file to delete????

Finder no longer displays about 99% of my RAW or JPG photo files. I can still preview them manually but I cannot see them in Cover Flow or Icon view. Instead, I get a little jpeg icon. Not very helpful when you need to scan hundreds of images fairly quickly.
Anyone else seen this? Anyone found any remedies? I have already tried several things mentioned on the forums for similar problems.
I had this issue back in october and someone recommended I delete the finder.plist file in my preferences folder.
I did that and voila! My images came back. However I am experiencing the same thing again and that file no longer exists.
What to do now?

I would suspect that preference file is actually there but you are looking in the wrong place. delete the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.finder.plist, control-option-click on Finder in the dock and choose "relaunch".

Same issue all over this board with HP Printer! Where did your quality go, HP?

I have an HP Photosmart 6520 that is used to print less than 20 pages per month. Now the black ink will not print. I just spent $$$$ to replace all the cartridges and still have the same issue. The cartridge is not clogged. I have aligned the print heads, etc. and performed all the necessary troubleshooting. I am so disappointed.
I have always been HP brand loyal, but when I have to buy a NEW printer since this one has obviously failed after 13 months, it WILL NOT be an HP. I also have an HP 3051A that is a cheap piece of junk. I rarely use it but it won't last long either. Cheap plastic. Where did your quality go, HP?
So now what? Out of warranty. Out of luck. Out $ for cartridges and a printer that should have lasted longer.

It is probably because you are not properly closing Firefox. Restarting your system would make sure that Firefox had terminated, but you do not have to do that.
To properly close Firefox on Windows systems, use
:File > Exit or "Firefox:" button > Exit
When you get the message "Firefox is already running" it is too late, and you must force termination of Firefox through the Windows Task Manager before restarting Firefox. Windows 7 has a keyboard shortcut to save you a step "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" then on "Processes" tab, select "firefox.exe" and use the "End Process" button. More thorough would be to right-click on the "firefox.exec" and choose "End Process Tree".
You would find firefox.exe in a Mozilla folder in your program files, but y0u would not want to delete it there, you would need to use the Control Panel which you have already identified and do it from there -- but generally you would not need to do that, and there is nothing in what you have posted to indicate that you should. But if you did do that, then don't let the install start Firefox for you as you would want to use you existing desktop icon or method of starting Firefox, and should decline having Firefox install start Firefox for you. When the install starts then invoke Firefox in your normal manner. This should eliminate problems of creating a new profile rather than using your old profile.

'Out Of Memory' issue and over large Project File...

Hi everyone, my issue is a common one but yet to find out reasons why after trying many suggestions.
I am working in Final Cut Pro 6 on an edit 35 minutes long. It's a holiday video edit of a snowboarding trip filmed on GoPro HD and a small handy Sony Handycam. All rushes are transcoded to ProRess 422. I have cut the edit and doing the final touches with the colour using Synthetic Appertures Color Finesse 3. My project file starts off at a mere 17MB before colour grading/correction from what I can tell seems pretty normal. By the time I get to around half way my Project ile has increased greatly to over 70MB, FCP becomes slow and unstable then I start to get crashes and reloads of the project take around 15 minutes or more to open. This seems quite a jump to me once grading starts?
Originally I did have around 6 sequences of footage (one for each day of shooting on holiday) where each contained all the usable clips I could possibly use for the edit. Then a Master sequence where I would paste my desired clips to for trimming and editing to music. (all music in AIFF)
I have deleted all folders in the browser that arent in use now and the only sequence I have now is the master, nothing else at all! No Motion graphics but some text at the start of the edit, nothing animated. No stills, but I do have some freeze frames but I'd say no maore than 20 over the whole 35 minutes. I have deleted unused render files and trashed preferences.
I did see somewhere that someone suggested splitting the edit in to two different projects? There wasnt a clear explanation of this.

I have already successfully rendered 20 minutes of the project with no issues. As the project file has increased it has become troublesome. Beach balling when pasting the colour finesse attributes to my next clip for instance.
When I attempt to render now its instantly fails with a "Out Of Memory" error and eventually crashes FCP.

Power issues all over: is this the end?

Full historic on the laptop:
- PB G4 15" 1.67 GHz bought in May 2005
- logic board replaced under warranty
- hard drive replaced under warranty last year
- battery was part of the battery recall program
- AC adapter died late last year, the thin wire finally came undone and I stopped using it as I started seeing sparks...
I then bought a third-party replacement AC adapter. My replacement battery also started to show its age after more than 300 cycles. I was starting to have issues with me leaving my PB more than a day under sleep, I would have difficulty waking the computer up (had to remove the battery, reset the PRAM, etc...). Finally, a couple of weeks ago, that same occurrence happened again but this time, impossible to charge the battery back. Computer would start fine from AC, I would pop in the battery but it would stay at 0% even after a day being plugged in.
I decided it was time to buy a new battery (NewerTech from OWC) and things were looking good last week. Everything was working fine and I was back at 3+ hours of battery life... Then yesterday, I left my PB open on my desk, plugged in. I came back a couple of hours later, impossible to wake it up. If I press the power, I get the chime, fans kick in and then nothing. Even removing the battery and resetting the PMU with the power button was not working. Only thing that worked was leaving the computer w/o battery and power for like 30 minutes and then starting again to power it up... At first I got a kernel panic (grey screen + noway sign) but after a couple more tries, I was able to start and everything seemed to work fine... But today, again, I'm unable to power on the PB...
Any suggestions? Do I have to start looking at the 13" MBP? It stinks cause I was really hoping I could eek out enough from the PB to have a USB 3 laptop as my next one...

thing is, the release notes state that messing around with core settings in audio prefs can help but they add that different settings will be needed with different projects and i jus can't be bothered to start with all that considering how stable things have been 4 me in the last year or more
maybe i have slightly over-reacted (after one stressful week) but comments like the above (from sliderson) are truly dull & limited. this board is full of peeps lamenting crashes with 9.1.3, big thanx to those like mike connelly who can offer something positive in the midst of general panic
hopefully i'll change my mind as i continue to monitor the consensus of the community here, particularly around this issue of settings for numbers of cores. when peeps who know much more than me about the inner workings of macs tell me these settings really solve the issues i'll listen and take note

Having same issue as dtwaldo1 - utility recognizes unit but when I try to install get error message and try again, Have tried all combinations I can conceive but still get message. My old airport operates OK on same system - but utility does not recognize old model airports. I'm using a PC running windows 8.1 (sorry). Cay you please help?

If you trying connect two Universal apps through Bluetooth, can you check if the
Windows 8.1 Bluetooth RFComm sample runs fine on both the devices? I successfully tested the Windows 8.1 Bluetooth RFComm sample on Laptop (Windows 8.1) and Windows Phone 8.1 (paired).
Make sure the service which you are trying to advertise/listen is supported by both the devices.

HT201263 ok, I did the above, and I waited 2 hours for this to download the "update." Then I try it again on the ipod, and it starts to redo the same download all over again !

I started the update, and in the middle of it, the same previous screen pops up that it can't connect to the ipod,and the ipod screen goes back to "disabled." I waited it out, let the download finish. Then I had to try the process over again, and it started the download all over again, even though I just did that. Another two hours??? This is driving me mad. All for a stupid password ! How do I reset this dang thing, so I can open it. Bad enough I have to re do everything, because I have to restore it. PLEASE HELP !
Just wanted to add that apparently the ipod is disconnecting and reconnecting to the computer somehow. I know because when you plug in the ipod, the computer makes a noise, as with any hardware. Well I click on "restore," agree to the restore, then it starts to download the update. A few minutes later, I hear the computer make the same noise, as if I have disconnected the ipod, even though I haven't even touched the cord. Then it makes the sound again, as being reconnected or plugged in, then the message pops up that it can't be connected, because a password has to be entered. The ipod screen then goes from the restore picture ( the itunes logo with usb cord) to the same "disabled, connect to itunes."
I am not trying a different cord and seeing if that helps the plugged in portion.

Do a manual install using the instructions here.
have you download the update/firmware, place the iPod in recovery mode and then update/restore using the instructions in the article.

This is a long issue here but everything is available to see per Verizon in the notes. I have tried many many times to get assistance and I am getting no where with the many customer service reps that I have spoken to.
The issue started in September 2013 with my home fusion account. I had had it for several months with no issues. Then 1 day after my billing schedule I started receiving text messages saying my usage was almost over the 10GB again in 1 day. I called to ask customer service what the deal was. I was told that perhaps since its just the 1 day after my billing schedule perhaps the system is just overlapping. I was told to give it a few days and it should straighten itself out. I did as told but kept receiving the text messages saying the overage was still pulling GB. I called back and a new gentleman told me to go ahead and unplug the unit until we figure it out. I did as told. However by this point I had racked up about $1500 of overages. The tech department could not say anything but that it was some cloud based service pulling the GB. We have no such thing and live on 30 acres in the woods with no one around as they said perhaps someone else was using our wifi. That wasn't possible but yet they still said it was something we did. After some months going back and forth we finally agreed on a settling point where they paid a small portion and I paid the majority. fast forward three months or so and I was still being charged the $100 month for a unit I was told to unplug. I called and said this was suppose to be cancelled back in October when we had the issues as we were not going to chance having another issue like this. They lady said dhe would take care of it. A few months later I called from the Verizon store and talked with another gentleman. Again he said yes I see all the notes and issues and he would send up a note to the home fusion department to have that cancelled. I was ok with that. A few more motnhs go by and I STILL was being charged the $100 fee. I called again spoke to another lady and again was told it would be taken care of. Then in about june or July 14 I called again and got to speak with a supervisor again. She looked in the notes, agreed it was suppose to be done sometime ago. I ask her how will that work with a refund as I been paying all this time for something unplugged that was suppose to be canceled. She said what I needed to do as the amount was too high for her to approve was email corporate. I got the information from her and did so. At that point I thought it was cancelled and then now I need to just figure out the refund part with corporate. Now all the sudden the charge appears back on my account. When I call they said it was suspended for vacation. Why would I need to suspend the account for vacation when it had not been used nor showed usuage on their end in nearly a year. So here we are now. After many emails to distrist managers, dozens of calls to customer service, and more no one has ever called back to follow up like many of the reps said they would. I was told there would be a $200 cancellation fee in the beginning when I was told to unplug device which I was fine with as I couldn't afford another $1500 bill if the receiver went crazy again.. 19 MONTHS later this is still not solved and NO ONE has done anything they promised in regards to contacting me after I say that that's what the last rep said and they said NO but we definently will. What do I do?

The only sort of credit I was recieved was yesterday because apparently in
October 14 instead of cancelling the person suspended the account for
vacation use and it came back on and I was being charged again for last few
months so they returned $198 for the last couple months of charges but then
charged me $140 to cancel. The deal is this should have been canceled in
early 14 and I can not get anyone to help in regards to all those months I
was charged then. The rep yesterday kept trying to send me to financial
care to discuss that but I know good and we'll that financial care can not
handle any credits etc. So it was a year of left I was being charged. As
far as tickets they had opened tickets in the past in regards why the
overage occurred which we "resolved" but my issue has been the lack of
cancellation after many request way prior and the fact I was told to unplug
the unit in case it was the unit. It was unplugged in Sept 2013 and never
plugged back in. They show no use had ever been used since then, they know
we had a issue, but still charged me for a year for the service. The other
part that really bothers me was when the overage was occurring was they
said they would upgrade it to tech. I called back 2 weeks later and it
still hadnt been upgraded to tech. As soon as it was upgraded they called
and said jnplug. But during that 2 week period it caused a $1000 of
overage. I have email confirmations of this where the tech apologized for
not getting it up the the correct department but said I was still liable
for the charged occurring through that time even though if he would have
sent it that day instead of 2 weeks later we would have known to unplug
then and avoid that extra $1000 in charges. I have and would be willing to
share those emails with anyone. I was put in a corner to try and pay that
so that my phone lines would stay active as verizon is the only thing that
works here and they said it would go against my credit. Again email
aknowledgement saying they didn't get the issue up to the tech for 2 weeks
and during that time the issue ran many GB but I was still responsible for
the charges even though when they did get it to them like they were suppose
to the first time problem was "solved" right away by being told to unplug
unit. Even when I tell reps that I have all these emails from techs
adwaynd reps showing these things they have never asked to see them or
anything. They say no computer says it was your fault. I just don't
understand.

Experiencing same issues when running a seq file on different machines

I have a sequence file that when ran on a desktop PC, takes about 30 mins to run and the same file runs in about 3 mins on a laptop. All the station configuration options are same on both the teststands. The only difference I see between the two machines in running the test is that the desktop pc has 256MB of RAM and the laptop has 1GB of RAM. My question is, could this RAM difference be the reason for the 30 min to 3 min difference?? I am sure that all the other options inside teststand that can affect the speed at which the seq file runs are same on both the machines. Any suggestions/comments will be greatly appreciated.

Can you tell us a little bit more about what this sequence file does? Does it communicate to instruments? Does it access network resources (shared network drives)?

For the photos, only if you have a backup in iCloud or on you computer.
For the apps, from your backup or you can redownload from the iTunes store at no charge.

DoInstall errors all over the pl

I have the X-Fi Gamer, i have tried to install the software of of the CD, and the downloaded internet update. I get DoInstall errors no matter which i do. I get this error when trying to install the update from online. DoInstall fails to launch, c:\windows\temp\crf002\src\audcon\ctshared\cad\set up.inx. DoInstall return error code is -24702484. All the errors i am getting have to do with it seems all the Serup.inx files it trys to intall, i get about 6 setup.inx errors through out the install ation from both sources...please help so i can enjoy my product

Hi,
If you are using Windows XP then this may be a solution for you.
Otherwise, google for "CCleaner", install it and use it to clean up junk files, temporary files (from the "temp" directory e.g.) and unwanted registries from Windows OS. See if you can install the drivers issue-free now after cleaning up.
