  • Camera Connection Kit + Sandisk Card Reader = KILL 16G CF card

My camera connection kit with my sandisk card reader fried 2 16G CF card (1 Sandisk Extreme 60MB/s 16G and 1 Sandisk Ultra 30MB/s 16G). And I have a pair of 8G too and they’ve no problem, this makes me think that anything ABOVE 8G might be damage in this file transfer operation. (lucky all sandisk I bought have 5 years warrenty, but unlucky is pictures inside are GONE )
Both CF cards was fried when sudden in the middle of the transfer operation.
And I’ve search the internet and some tech people said this is a CAMERA connection kit, and APPLE suggested the USB kit was to connect to a CAMERA not a card reader. as people said new LARGE size CF card is power thirst, and since most card reader doesn’t provide any power and mainly rely on the USB power source. The lack of power will ended damaging these power 16G card.
Can someone HELP, I dont want to keep my 16G CF card frying!

I would be very happy for Apple to make a Compact Flash card reader just like the SD connection. Its something I would purchase immediately. Sadly Apple is yet to realise that not everbody uses crappy little point and shoot or entry level DSLR cameras and those that have the high end gear are those who woulld actually use the iPad in the real world for a travelling "light-box".
BTW does Apple ever look at this forum? or is it just a place that they specifically ignore when it comes to faulty programming or products?

  • SanDisk Card Reader stopped working with OS X 10.4.7

I have an older SanDisk single smart card reader, model SDDR-55. It worked fine with 10.2, but I cannot seem to get it to work with 10.4.7.
When I reinstall the SanDisk driver (the most recent download available from them) and restart, I get an error when connecting the reader to my USB hub.
The error says, "The system extension '/System/Library/Extensions/OnUSBMassStorageClass.kext was installed improperly and cannot be used.'"
I have tried reinstalling, deleting the /System/Library/Caches files, restarting, calling SanDisk to make sure the latest driver works with 10.4.7. "It should", they tell me. So I am out of ideas. If anyone knows how to fix this please help me out. Thanks in advance!
    G4 Yikes! Tower   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   400 MHz / 100GB HD

I know what you mean. My Zio smart media reader will not work either. if I install the driver and immediately use the card reader, it will work.
Once I repair permissions, the reader will not work until I reinstall the driver again. Very frustrating.

  • IPhoto 11 will not recognize my camera or card reader

My new iMac with iPhoto 11, on Lion, will not recognise my camera, a SanDisk card reader or, for that matter, my iPhone 4.
It means that I cannot put new photo's into iPhoto.
From other forums and threads there seems to be an Apple issue but no fix.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

The point of using a  Different Account on your Mac is that it will tell us if the applications are sound or not. If the problem occurs in another User account we'll know the issue is systemic. If it doesn't then we know the apps are sound and the issue is something in your account.
Basic troubleshooting: try the same things using different cables. If the cable is faulty then that's how we'll know. That fact that other features work using this cable means nothing. A connector cable has several strands. One could be damaged.
Ditto for using different USB ports  on the machine.

  • New Lexar USB card reader, X tells me low power

The card reader worked fine yesterday.
Today, no matter where I plug it in (usb port) or the keyboard, OS X pops up a window telling me there is low power for this device. Therefore, I can not mount the CF card in the Lexar card reader.
This card didn't have any installers. Should I look for some on their webpage?
I guess I should have bought the Sandisk card reader, about the same price, eh?
Should I start looking for my receipt to trade it for the Sandisk card reader?

Lexar USB card reader is: Model RW022 Rev A
I did contact Lexar using their 24 hour live chat on their webpage. An excerpt from the conversation is pasted below. I wrote "Lexar" and "me" to hide identities of those involved.
Lexar: we are sorry to say that, our card reader is compatible with USB 1.0, USB 2.0.
    Lexar: not compatible with 1.0
me: so the card reader is not compatible with 1.0 on a Mac
    Lexar: exactly.
Lexar: not compatible with USB 1.0
    me: ok, thanx
Lexar: is there any thing else i need to assist you.
me: yes, what versions of Mac OS is this card reader compatibvle with?
Lexar: this reader RW022 is compatible with MAC tiger.
me: from your webpage this card reader is compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0
    me: http://www.lexar.com/readers/compactflash-2.html
me: All Macs, even older ones, were USB 1.1
Lexar: all lexar products are compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 only.
me: My mac is USB 1.1
    Lexar: then it will work.
The conversation went on and Lexar asked for time to research this, which I told them to take all the time they needed.
In the end though, Lexar asked me if I had it connected to the keyboard, and I answered yes, and they said it should be connected to the tower.
So I'm assuming connecting the card reader to the Apple keyboard doesn't have enough power (as the keyboard and Pro Mouse are also using the power there). They told me it should work if connected to the tower. I thanked them and said I'd try that.
So I'm assuming that this card reader should either be connected to the Cube directly (without turning it over I hope I have 3 USB ports under there) or to a better USB port that is powered (than what I have) so that the card reader gets plenty of power. In the past, I simply connected my very old CF reader [in OS 9.x] to the keyboard (like I do my scanner) and it worked.
Do most card readers need to be connected to the "tower" or to a powered usb port?

  • Iodata GUH284R card reader / usb hub driver?

I just bought an Iodata card reader / usb hub to use with my new iMac. According to the manufacturer it works with OSX, but they don't provide a driver for for anything above OSX 10.2 on their web site. As a hub, it works great, but it doesn't seem to 'see' the memory cards. The cards are formatted in Fat16 by the camera. Is this a problem? This is my first Mac so it could be that I'm missing something obvious.
    iMac G5 (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I have a Sandisk card reader and I do not need any drivers to make it work. Normally OS X will detect those thinks without any additionnal drivers.
Have you tried it on another computer? Maybe the card reader portion is just not working.
I suggest you contact IOData support and ask them.

  • Could anyone recommend a reliable card reader for my MacBook Pro please?

    Hi,
Looking for a reliable card reader for compact flash and SD cards for my MacBook Pro.  Would anyone be able to recommend one please?  Most reviews I've read only seem to mention Windows and I'm not sure whether they are Mac compatible.
    Many thanks, Karen

    Karen,
Hi, what year is you macbook pro?  Is it the Early 2008 one with the grey keyboard, or the newer ones with black keys?  If you have the grey keyboard macbook pro I use the Sandisk card reader:
For the newer MacBook Pro's a usb card reader works well in addition to the sd card reader built in the MacBook Pro.  They are making thunderbolt card readers now for a low price:http://computers.pricegrabber.com/flash-memory-readers-accessories/SmartDisk-THU NDERBOLT-SD-STICK-WRITER-USB/m16520521.html

  • SanDisk USB 3.0 Card Reader does not work with OSX Mavericks.

Since updating to OSX Mavericks (10.9) My  USB 3.0 SanDisk "ImageMate All-in-One" Card Reader has begun to fail.
It all seems to work proper at first. The memory card shows up in finder and I'm able to browse the files. But when I try to transfer any files it un-mounts from finder and only transfers the first file.
This does not happen under previous OSX versions. I have tried on other computers since, so the card reader is fine.
My USB 2.0 card reader saved my life this time. It works totally fine.
Is this a known problem? Are you guys working on it?

  • Camera Connection Kit with a SanDisk CF card reader not working in iOS4

Camera Connection Kit with a SanDisk CF card reader worked great before switch to 4.2.1. Now I get a message:"The connected USB device requires too much power". Again, worked great in OS3. What did Apple change? Same circumstances. The CCK works with the SD card reader, so it is working. Anyone running into this problem? Any answers? I have to use CF cards. As do many people with DSLRs.

I would be very happy for Apple to make a Compact Flash card reader just like the SD connection. Its something I would purchase immediately. Select one file and type Command+A (Select All) to select all at one time.

  • HT204384 I want to transfer photos to a SanDisk card, then to my digital photo frame, but when I put the card in the side of the iMac, no icon appears...nothing happens.  Do I need a separate reader?  Soooo frustrating!  Thanks.

Having trouble transferring photos from iphoto to a SanDisk card, then to my digital photo frame.  Do I have a reader on this iMac, or do I need to buy one?  I insert the card on the side, no icon, nothing happens.  HELP!  Thanks, Diane.

Is there an icon on your desktop called "Machintosh HD" ?
If not, there is a setting that is easily turned on that will show you connect drives, memory cards, and other devices. You can turn it on like so:

  • Card reader not mounting SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash Cards

    Hello,
I am having this issue with reading a CopactFlash card I recently bought. It is a SanDisk Extreme UDMA card. When insterted into a card reader the reader does not mount like it does when SanDisk Ultra II cards are mounted. This computer is fist generation MBP and runs SL OS. I tried it on another MBP with lion on it and the reader works just fine. Is there somthing that I need to download and install do you think?
    Thanks in advance,
    Farzad

If the card reader is to old it may not be able to read UDMA cards.
I know I upgraded to UDMA, I wrote to Lexar about the problem. They replaced the card reader with a newer model that worked.
You might ask SanDisk if they will do the same thing for you.

  • Need a SanDisk Ultra II 2.0 Gb CompactFlash card reader

I need a card reader to plug my SanDisk Ultra II 2.0 Gb CompactFlash cards into my 2011 17" MacBook Pro running Mavericks OS X 10.9.4. Can anyone recommend a good (easy to use) card reader and where to get it? I'm leaving out-of-town tomorrow, and it didn't occur to me until today that my cards won't fit into my MacBook Pro. Help!
    Thank in advance!

    Hi Nodger,
    1) USB 1.1, according to your specs. The first eMacs with USB 2.0 came out in April 2004, and they have a 1.25GHz processor.
    2) If your Lexar card only needs USB 1.1, then it doesn't matter which speed you use (see this)
