Run an SAP DB instance without ASCS and CI.
Friends:
We installed an SAP DB instance on UNIX without ASCS and CI because the NT server for ACS/CI is not ready yet,
Therefore in /sapmnt/SID/profile, only DEFAULT.PFL exists.
Now we want to copy /adapt another SID's profile, then do a "tp addtobuffer ...", "tp import ..." in order do transports into the running DB.
Could you please tell me whether above import method is harmful to the DB instance?
Thanks a lot!Hi Christina,
For transports to happen you need a transport profile available in the system along with required SAP binaries like TP, R3trans .For this you need to install CI which will create this transport profile.
Transport profile contains the DBHOST, MSHOST and certain more parameters.
Note: Incase you plan to have High Availability setup then you should also have ASCS installed as it contains message server services.
Hope this helps.

What is the diff b/w Sap Scripts and Smart Forms
Hi,
Whats the diff b/w SAP Scripts and Smart Forms..
I need the internal explanation for both Smart Forms and SAP Scripts mean when we execute what happens whether Print Program r Forms starts execution 1st and SIMILARLY FOR SMARTFORMS WHETHER FM'S R FORMS.
Thanks & Regards,
Gopi.Hi
Difference with SMARTFORMS vs. SapScript(SE71)
The Following are the differences :-
a) Multiple page formats are possible in smartforms which is not the case in SAPScripts
b) It is possible to have a smartform without a main window .
c) Labels cannot be created in smartforms.
d) Routines can be written in smartforms tool.
e) Smartforms generates a function module when activated.
f) Unlike sapscripts (RSTXSCRP), you cannot upload/download Smartform to your local harddisk.
It was said that it was provided in CRM 3.0 version, but not available in R/3. You can download smartforms into Local PC in a XML format. In the same way you can upload this XML format into Smartform. From the smartform editor itself you can call download option, if you are working in CRM 3.0 environment.
In R3 also, you can download into XML format. However, it's not sure about uploading. Refer to the program 'SF_XSF_DEMO'.
In 4.7 Enterprise, other have seen this utlity which is completey missing in 4.6c. There is functionality to downlaod a complete form or only a particular node. (Utilities -> Download form). It will create a XML file and save it in the hard disk.
For others, if you want to download/upload the Smartforms source, you will need the help from the Basis people. What you can do is to create a Transport and then FTP down to your local harddisk. When you need the Smartform source in another system, you have FTP up the Smartforms file back to the SAP server. Finally, the Basis team, will tp it into your system.
g) The protect and endprotect command in sapscript doesn't work with smartforms. For example on a invoice: First data of position no 80. is printed on page one, other data of position no 80 is printed on page 2. And there's nothing you can do about it. Actually, there is something you can do about it. By using a folder node and checking the 'protect' checkbox, everything in that folder will be page protected.

Diff between Voluntary Down payment and mandatory down payment in EHP4
We are implementing ECC 6.0 Ehp4 funcationality. We have an option to maintain the down payment details in the Purchase order. There we have the option of Voluntary DP and Mandatory down payment.
What is the basic difference between the two in the subsequent process.Dear:
it is just a symbolic presentation which has nothing to do with the document posting, Check out the given below link of SAP library Business add "Enhancement for Processing the Purchase Order" which has to be checked what exactly it does in the Mandatory part..
http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/en/75/ee1fa755c811d189900000e8322d00/frameset.htm
I worked on EHP4 and didn't find any difference in using the M or V indicators on down-payment, may be while executing ME2DP you can restrict the voluntary down payments.

Hello,
Messages are in to be delivered state and slows down the message processing.
this happenens in case of DB2 on some machine where the issue about high load on DB2 is caused by standard programming in SAP XI that executes a statement, where it uses the condition 'where 1<0' prio to the original SQL statement configured in the channel configuration,

TO_BE_DELIVERED occurs while the message is put into the Messaging System receive queue.
Solution:
This is done via the Messaging System receive servlet:

SAP Product and Portfolio Management Upgrade(PPM)
HI Everyone, A warm reagrds! W e are planning to upgrade our current SAP Product and Portfolio Management 4.0 to 5.0.While doing the Upgrade analysis I have come across below these questions..Has anyone earlier in this forum have come across
1.What are the side effects of this upgrade on existing system?
2. We have 21 client environment on top of the 3 standard clients provided by SAP. What can be the best approach for upgrading the systems? Some of these clients are used by project teams for prototype development , how would the upgrade affect their working (they are not working on this package)?
3. Our team is working on this package in one of the client and have created scenarios in the system. What will be the effect of this upgrade ? (this question can be seen as an extension to question 1)
4. How much effort would be required to carry out this upgrade and what will be the down time for the system?
I have check the service market place and help.sap but at present not getting much info..
Thanks for your time to read.. Please help!1Hi,

Query on splitting ASCS and PAS
Quick question All,
I referred the current SWPM procedure for 7.1 and higher on splitting ASCS and PAS. I have a question here please. The first point in the Procedure has 2 items -1) Choose an instance number for the ASCS instance to be created. and 2) Note that the message server port is not changed during the split. I am wondering how can this be. I thought DVEBMGSXX will split into ASCSXX and DXX. If point 1 holds good that means I can choose a port of my convenience and if point 2 is true, then that means I cant choose ASCS port of my liking. Both cant co-exist or am i missing something here. I basically want to have current port( Central CI port) to be used by PAS after split and this is not possible if point 2 above holds good. We have several interfaces that are pointed to this port and we don't want to end up adapting all RFC interfaces and gateway ports etc. We don't have HA so SPOF is not an issue here.
Any thoughs here please
Regards
KalyanHello Kalyan,
Adding further information to what Boris already explained here, you can read the following SAP KBA about Splitting Off ASCS from PAS I wrote:
2073500 - FAQ: Splitting off ASCS from PAS
The main cause the message server port is not changed during the is explained in question #5 of the document above:
5. Why SWPM does not allow changing the Message Server port and it keeps
using PAS port?
As described in section Splitting
Off a Central Services Instance for ABAP from an Existing Primary Application
Server Instance, the message server port is not changed during the
split.
Each SAP GUI Logon (end users) has the message server port information
locally saved in the services file (/etc/services on Unix/Linux or
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\services on Windows). Also all RFCs to
externally communicate to another system are configured with the message server
port.
Therefore the tool cannot change the port during the process due to
configuration and communication reasons.
I hope this information can be helpful as well for you.

SAP router is shutting down automatically
Hi All,
I have configured SAP router and started SAP router service using command in command prompt and left command window unclosed. It is working for some time and after regular intervals automatically it is shutting down. So, I need to check and start manually. There is no SAP router service in services list. I guess this might be the problem.
Can anyone please tell me the solution?
Note: I have done all this in Solution Manager System.
OS : Windows 2008
DB: SQL Server
Thanks in Advance
Uday.Hi Varun,
Thanks for helpful answer.
Only SAP router is stopping not the window.
I have tried installing SAProuter as NT service.
After creating service should I need to reboot the system?
Hi Sravanthi,
Thanks for helpful answer.
I have started SAProuter with 'saprouter -r &' command. Let me see the result.
And also I installed a service as NT service( According to note 525751).
Service was created successfully but when I select saprouter service and start(services.msc) it is getting terminated with the following error:
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.
Hi Siva,
Thanks for your response.
I have started SAProuter service using 'saprouter -r &' command, let me see this how long it works.
Then I will start the service as you suggested.
Thanks & regarda

Separate ASCS and PAS from Database server
Dear friends, in a customer we have the following need:
We need to separate de ASCS and the Primary application server to a host different from database server. The SAP system is an ERP 6.0 EHP4 based in NW 7.01.
We have used Software provisoning manager to splitt off the ASCS from the CI. Before the splitt off we only had the directory DVEBMSG00, and after the splitt off, we had ASCS01 and DVEBMSG00 directories. But, this is only half of the solution, because we need to move this services to another hosts.
We tried to use Software provisioning manager to deinstall the ASCS, and install it in the other host. This works. But the problem is the Primary application server, because if we uninstall it, when insttall in the other host with the option "System Copy" the sapinst promts for the installation export.
In the Marketplace i could not find any note form aour scenario.
Do you know a way to separate de CI and the PAS from de database server without a system copy?
Thanks and best regards.Hi
http://scn.sap.com/community/netweaver-administrator/blog/2013/12/04/why-splitting-off-the-ascs-from-pas
This link might be useful
But if you have a system based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0x, this option is not available in the 70SWPM, The only way to do that would be running a system copy of the system. Then during the target system installation, you would be able to install the new system with sepated ASCS from PAS . " -
ANY WAY to do Certification without any SAP training and experience?
This simple question is getting so confusing now. Please help.
This is India scenario. If you are mentioning some info for other countries PLEASE remember to do so. The confusion it creates is amazing!
I completed my engineering in July 2013 and then went for SAP ABAP training from an location institution which is NOT an SAP partner. I have no work experience and I'm still looking for ABAP opportunities.
Now, suddenly a friend has told me that someone he knows DID the official SAP ABAP certification by just studying from home for a fees of 40k (INR).
So I call up SAP education in Bangalore (in India) and confirm that the only way to get certified is:
- Through course + certification from their partners for fresher.
- And through your employer if it's an SAP partner.
I already knew this and this is what I've been believing till day. Now enters pearson vue.
So I do some googling and find the below responses regarding the SAP certification from peason vue.
This blog post: Frequently Asked Questions about SAP Certificationsays the following and it doesn't mention any country wise info.
Do certification programs have prerequisites, such as participation in a series of training courses?
While there is no course or set of courses required to take a particular certification exam, SAP provides a list of recommended training you can take to better prepare for an exam. In addition, completing an exam for a lower-level (associate) certification is not a prerequisite for taking a higher-level (professional) exam, although many professional-level certification seekers might find it helpful.
Then there is this post from 2010:
SAP-SD Certification though PEARSON VUE---INDIAwhich got the following response:
"Hi,
Pearson VUE is an examination center (where you can directly book your exam (any exam apart from SAP, like TOEFL,gre..).
Third party for any on line examination. if you wish to do certification without any authorized training , you can go for Pearson VUE.
Where as, Siemens is SAP authorized technology center. where you can get certification training by certain amount and then appear for the exam.
Hope i am clear.
Regards
Nagaraju"
What this doesn't mention is CAN recent graduates (also called freshers in India) go for pearson vue or previous SAP experience (at an SAP partner) is required?
<span style="color: rgb(87, 87, 87);"><span style="color: rgb(255, 102, 0);">TL;DR</span></span>
My questions straight to the point:
I completed my engineering in July 2013 and then I went for SAP ABAP training from an location institution which is NOT an SAP partner. I have no work experience (SAP or ANY other).
Can I go an enroll for the official SAP ABAP certification from Pearson Vue?
I'm asking this for India but if it's possible in other countries then too please reply and mention the rules etc.Allwyn,
SAP has a very confusing policy with regards to certification as it varies country by country. I wrote this a long time ago and it needs updating (Learning SAP when you don't have an SAP job already - Authorized Classes). This will give you the general rundown of what's available in terms of course of study.
It sounds like your friend signed up for an eAcademy. (I think they may have changed the name now, but basically it's online learning, not onsite, instructor led learning).
Now, here's the kicker. I'm going to divide the world into two groups: Group 1 and Group A. (Yes, it's a mixed metaphor, and it's deliberate. Read on.)
Countries in Group 1 have Authorized Training Providers. If you live in a country with Authorized Training Providers, the only way to get official SAP Training and the only way to sit for a certification examination is to go through Authorized Training. There are some exceptions: you can get your company to swear that you've got several years of experience or get an implementation partner to do the same, but it's a lot of hassle it's an extreme minority route. The bulk of the certifications for folks in Group 1 countries are via paid training via Authorized Training Providers. The certification and the training are completely linked.
For countries in Group A, the only Authorized Training Provider is SAP itself. If you want official SAP training, you must get it from SAP; HOWEVER, anyone can take the certification exam just by signing up at a Pearson Vue center. The training and the certification are completely unlinked.
I purposely used a mixed metaphor because there is no value judgement here. There are pros and cons to each system. The Group 1 method provides a clear route for folks to get trained and certified in SAP. Also, there is healthy competition between ATPs so the cost to get trained and certified is very low (compared to Group A). As a result, there seems to be far more certified SAP resources coming from those countries. The downside is that we hear horror story after horror story of folks who have been told by unscrupulous ATPs that getting certified is all it would take to get a job. Experience is far more important than certification in getting entry level positions in the SAP world. Certification plays more of a role at the mid-level, but the ATPs have children to feed and seem to accept anyone with enough cash, regardless of whether or not that person will be able to get a job afterwards. Check out SAP Career Blog Links for some blogs on that topic (and other related topics).
The Group A method allows anyone to get certified who has enough cash, but paradoxically, I would wager that the failure rate is much higher as more folks sit for the exam unprepared. Citizens of countries in Group A tend not to see a clear route from college graduate to SAP career. The official training is so expensive, that it isn't really an option to pay for your own training and hope for a job after. In Group A countries, most of the training is taken by folks who have gotten a job first and then have the training paid for by the company who has hired them.
So, by now you have guess that you are in a Group 1 country and your friend is in a Group A country.
While not a definitive list, the last time I checked it broke down something like this:
Group 1: India, Middle Eastern, African, Asian and South American Countries (+Mexico), Eastern Europe
Group A: North American Countries (Canada + US), Western Europe. Australia
You can find an list of Training Locations and check it out country by country to look for exceptions or specific details. If you're willing to travel, then you can test any time. If you can't travel, you're stuck with finding an ATP that you can afford if you live in a Group 1 country. In the past, all ATPs offered on-site, in-person, instructor-led training. I've heard that some are moving to the eAcademy training so that they don't have to pay local instructors (but still charge essentially the same price). I'd be interested in your experience as you go through this process. I encourage you to blog every step of the way! Blog about the various offerings of each ATP and tell us what the salespeople promise you/say to you before you sign up. Contrast that to the reality of the training and the help you get after you've had the training. You will be providing a much appreciated service to all of those who come behind you.
I hope this helps clear things up. I'm basically going to cut and paste this into a FAQ blog for this topic so folks can refer to it later. This is a fairly frequent source of confusion. I could have sworn that I wrote this all up in a blog earlier, but I can't find it, so I thank you for bringing this up so I can get this properly documented. Please ask any questions you may have so I can address them in the blog when it's ready.
Best regards,
--Tom
