SAP IDM 7.0/7.1 Project Plan and Architecture Landscape Diagrams

Need help in identifying whether there is anybody that has a generic project plan along with resources needed  in implementing IDM 7.0/7.1. I am also looking for a generic landscape diagram. Any help would be appreciated.

Matt,
Interesting question and one that I think we can answer, but we need a few specifics first (even for a generic)
1. Are you using 7 or 7.1?  This is a biggie since there are big differences in implementation.
2. What's your source for Identity data?  What are your targets?  Even a basic of (Source is HR, targets are ERP, LDAP and badging app)
3. What workflows are you implementing?
4. What is your development approach? Dev / QA / Prod?  This can be important too.
For architecture info, take a look at some of the documents available from SAP.
Anyway, a very generic would be:
1.0 Identify requirements
1.1 Sources
1.2 Targets
1.3 Workflows
2.0 Development Environment
2.1 Install Core Components
2.2 Install IdM
2.3 Connector creation
2.3.1 Source (X)
2.3.2 Target A
2.3.3 Target B
2.4 Workflow creation
2.4.1 Notification Tasks
2.4.2 Self Service Tasks
2.5.3 ...
2.6 Unit Testing
3.0 QA

  • Project plan and Configuration info

    Hi,
We are planning to implement SRM5.0 (Self service procurement including catalogs). I am looking for an example of a high level project plan that I can use as a base for estimating the implementation lead time.
Further, I am looking for a SRM5.0 configuration guide.
I would appreciate if someone could send the above documents to me.
My E-mail address is [email protected]
    I will award points.

    Atul,
I am looking for the configuration documentation. I already have the masterguide, but that does not contain the configuration documentation. Do you have that as well? Also I am very interested in a kind of (high level) project plan for an implementation of Self service procurement via SRM.
    Thanks,

With 28 individuals in-house Instrument schedules, a Mission schedule, and 7 external vendors schedules residing on our Local Share Drive network, we have pushed the limits of the External Link Functionality of the MS Project Professional desktop version.
We are currently constaint to follow one of two options:
    2) Work on the Network Share Drive:
MS Project crashes due to sheer volume of data (16GB of RAM)
Very long lead time for the complete IMS to open from share drive.
Limited productivity as only 1 individual can be in the live file at one time, locking other out.
    2) Work on Local desktop copies
All files must be copied locally, as slack will not calculate properly unless all file comprising the IMS are on same local macjhine
Requires a large amount of a coordinated effort to ensure all schedule updates/changes are not lost by overwriting updated files with obsolete files.

    Charles,
I don't see a question here but it sounds like you need to switch to Project Server.
Several things are of significant concern with your existing setup. You are using a linked structure. You have multiple users accessing the files, The files are on a network drive. You mention copying files. You mention overwriting files. The worst things
you can do with a linked structure in Project are, rename, move, overwrite, save off any files in the structure to another location, and work on a network drive. Those all lead to corruption, not if, but when.
If for some reason Project Server is out of the question, then I suggest you take steps to eliminate each of the items noted above.

    Hi Kenny,
Whenever you create a custom (Z) idoc type and want to trigger idocs for it you would need to use the MASTER_IDOC_DISTRIBUTE function module for the same.
Hence to get some sample programs just do a <i>where used</i> on this function module.
Hope this helps. Also please refer to the link below:

  • Any suggestions on Initial Project Planning & Kick-Off

<a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/forums">Paul Wilson</a> suggested that we start a series of discussions for the different phases of the SAP OCM process.
In response to Paul’s suggestion, I am kicking off a thread on this topic.  Others threads on the other phases will follow.
The process steps for Initial Project Planning & Kick-Off from Paul's prior posting are listed below.
1.1 Initial Project Planning and Kick-Off
1.1.1 Transition from Discovery and Evaluation
1.1.1.2 Review Discovery and Evaluation Documents
    1.1.2 Enterprise Strategy Framework
1.1.2.1 Review All Required Strategic Documentation
    1.1.2.2 Conduct Executive Workshops
    1.1.2.4 Review Workshop Results
    1.1.4 Project Charter
    1.1.4.6 Develop Organizational Change Strategy
Any suggestions on what has worked well would be appreciated.  Also, feel free to include things that have been tried that were less than successful.
From a real world perspective, I would be interested in discussing to whom and how Change Strategy has been presented by other OCM Consultants.   I would also be interested in discovering how often OCM Consultants actually conduct Executive Workshops during this phase of the project.
I am looking forward to learning and sharing with the group.
    Caryl Barclay
    SAP OCM Change Management Principal

    Hi Caryl,
I have not had extensive experience ( >1 ) but heres my input. I may be missing some info but hope this helps someone.
Typically during the project Initiation phase, we work on getting the project charter, business case, Scope Statement, Project plan schedule etc.
So with respect  to OCM, during the prep/initiation/kick off stage -
    1) Producing Change Charter – This helps to set the framework for the OCM. The Change Charter sets ambition, scope and initial attributes of the organizational change process for the entire project.
Key Deliverables during this step are  OCM Plan, Purpose and Objectives
    2) Business Readiness - provides the decision makers with an initial assessment of the readiness of the business to embark on the project given the scope of change defined in the business case (deliverable from Project Initiation). The assessment comprises a high level view on which stakeholders will be impacted and how dramatic the change is going to be seen from the business organizations side. We would try to include any information on the company's previous change experiences.
Key Deliverables during this step –
    a)     Initial impact assessment
    b)     Stakeholder map and business readiness. (we would  need to conduct meetings, interview etc )
    3) Change Management Organization – Defining change management organization is a very important as it sets the guidelines on how the proj org should be set up to meet the objectives in change charter. It helps to ensure that our leadership forces driving the changes to the business are leveraged to the maximum potential. In addition,  it sets the direction for the OCM team to support the program sponsors and steering committee members in a structured manner.
Key Deliverables during this step Sponsorship Strategy (high level document).
    4) Communication plan-  The communication framework defined here will be followed through the project lifecycle. Hence this is a very critical step in the OCM Initial/Kick off Phase.  Typically one would need to identify the target audience and align them with the initial stakeholder mapping/impact assessment, work with the client teams to find out the messaging strategy guidelines if any (if they don’t have then define one), Identify communication feedback loops, and the timeline/key messages for all communications throughout the project.
    Key Deliverables :
    a)     Communication Plan
    b)     Communication Strategy and Framework.
    5) Organizational Alignment Strategy - ensures that considerations has been made as regards to how radical changes to processes and organization the program sponsors wants to allow or encourage in order to achieve a coherent design of system, process and organization.  If Organizational Alignment strategy is given low priority, the project team will end up in in-efficient discussions Or some times totally ignores the aspect of organizational alignment with a resulting gap between the system set-up and the processes by which the company is actually run. So, the business will still be operating but will miss out on realizing the full business benefits of the project. O rganizational Alignment Strategy Document is the key deliverable at this point.

  • SAP ERP - Demand Planning and Forecasting

    Dear all,
my customer is a wholesale company. They want to use a component in SAP ERP (not SAP APO), in order to make demanding planning and forecasting for the materials , quantities and dates they should make the purchases in order to cover the demand of their customers. What is the component that should be used in order to achieve this?

MRP can be used without production planning. SOP and Demand Management are not Production.
Nevetheless, if you want a simpler planning cycle, provided that you understand its ads and cons, you could go for Consumption Based Planning MRP.

  • ActiveDirectory - SAP IDM integration in Identity Life cycle Management

    Hi Experts
In our landscape SAP HCM is supposed to be  the  leading data source and SAP IDM takes identity information from SAP HCM.  From SAP IDM it will provision into Active directory and other third party systems, Sap systems.
    Here are the questions
    1) How  can we leverage on the investment on Active directory after  SAP IDM -Active directory investment ?  I mean after SAP IDM comes to a landscape,  Active directory will only be used to login to domain and for authentication if for java system Active directory have been set as user data source.  What are the other advantages of Active directory- SAP IDM integration as Active directory will not be leading data source and identity information will be in identity store.?
    2) After the user details are taken from SAP HCM system, will  the user record will be created in SAP IDM on Identity store ?  Is it where we actually assign the SAP IDM business role and the related technical role  to the  user?
    3) Suppose if we assign a business role " employee " , will IDM actually create user id in all target system and assign all the technical roles? . Or we have to manually select each repository for target system in Identity center and  select the privileges and provision it ?  Will there be any automated feature that after assigning the business role to identity in identity store users and roles get automatically provisioned on all the target systems?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi Matt,
    Thank you very much.
Only change we have is before approval it should go to GRC AC check all the compliance   and only after that it is approved and it should come back to SAP IDM  .
I am actually looking for a tutorial which actually shows how you assign a business role and the whole procedure of SAP IDM automatically provisioning to target systems which you have just explained.  I suppose there is no such exact tutorial and I want to know how we can configure this on SAP IDM . Any  specific clues?
Also  I am describing the exact steps that will follow . Correct me if I am wrong.
    1) User id will be created on AD with same user name and password as it is in Identity store. Will be assigned AD groups
    2) Create same user in Portal and make the user data source as AD and will assign the technical role portal as per the business role definition
    3) create same user in all abap systems and set abap database as user data source and assign the technical role needed as per the business role definition
    4) Create same user in third party systems  and with the privileges on their target systems as per the business role definition.
With this provisioning stops. I suppose all the above steps will be automatically done by SAP IDM with no manual interaction required after final approval. Correct me if I am wrong.
So some other information i wanted is
    1) When you assign business role at work flow,  how exactly SAP IDM  know about the target systems that user should be created and  assigned roles and made their authentication source.
for eg:- for  a  business role "employee"  should get  access to ERP with role X,  AD with group Y, Portal with role Z.  So in work flow when business role employee is assigned  how SAP IDM will know that user should be created on to ERP with role X,  AD with group Y, Portal with role Z. Can you explain technically along with  detail steps? Or how exactly we configure a business role which knows the target systems and their techical roles.
Thank you once again for the fabulous help . You/Matthew is a tremendous  help in understanding SAP IDM better.

  • SAP IDM reporting

I have raised this topic before, but thought I would revisit it now that IDM is becoming more common.
What do you do for Reporting ? SAP IDM is delivered with minimal reporting options and the answer is 'Use Crystal', but with all the instances of IDM installed by members of this forum, there must be a view on reporting requirements in the real world.
Is there a way of sharing the Crystal RPT files via the forum so that we can all benefit and have some useful IDM reporting rather then re-invent the wheel and everyone developing their own ?
    Standard reports could include ;
User Setup at particular date / time ( useful for backtracking changes)
Users for a Role / Privilege
Audit reports by user or role or privilege or administrator login
Reports showing Roles / Parent Roles and their inherited permissions
Anyone think of other reports that you would see as "required" for ongoing care and feeding of a production IDM system ?
    Thanks
    Phil

Thanks for that. I have gone through the document and there are indeed some wonderful SQL and a reporting example.
But I guess I was more hoping for more then 1 generic 'out of the box reports' with IDM, or failing this, some examples from forum members on how they actually succeeded in getting reports out from IDM using Crystal
Our IDM instance is in production, linked with HCM and working well for over 2000 SAP users. Love the product, but having trouble finding time to play with reports rather then refining the HCM integration and source of truth analysis that such a product is now highlighting.

  • Unable to create a production plan and schedule on SAP B1

    Hi,
I've been trying to figure out how to use SAP B1 to give me a production plan and schedule for quite some time now.... I have no problem in accessing my pending orders. There seems to be no option in my production tab to enter resource information! Would be great if you could possibly tell me how to figure this out.

    Hi,
Without capturing the actual time of production orders, it is not possible to perform scheduling. You may create planned production order by based on theoretical time.
Only third party add-on fulfill your requirement.

  • Multiple currency planning and budgeting?

    Hi all
We are having a requirement of planning and budgeting in same WBS with multiple currencies and also seeing reports in different currencies on single screen.
Now has anybody explored this area and has anything to suggest.
    Thanks in anticipation
    Raman

    Hi Raman
The following is the literature from SAP on the subject. You may find it useful.
Planning and Budgeting in Any Currency
    Use
International groups often use one uniform company code currency (group currency) in CO. However, it may be necessary to plan and budget in the respective local currency as the majority of costs will be incurred in the local currency. The local currency is usually the corresponding company code currency.
Previously only budgeting of jobs (orders and projects) was possible in the local currency.
From Release 4.70, you can also budget investement programs in the local currency. In addition, it is possible to plan investment programs, appropriation requests and jobs directly in the local currency.
As was previously the case for orders and projects, plan and budget values for investment programs and appropriation requests are also saved in both the controlling area and local currencies defined in the master record of each object. If you change or re-specify the exchanged rates used, it is now possible to recalculate the values in the local currency using the values in the controlling area currency, and vice-versa.
In reporting for IM, it is even possible to calculate evaluations in any report currency (plan, budget and assigned values). If the values are available in the specified report currency, they are issued unchanged. If they are not available, they are converted from the controlling area currency into the report currency.
    Effects on Existing Data
Before Release 4.70, the plan values for appropriation requirements, were only saved in the controlling area currency. This was also the case if a local object currency was specified in the master record for the appropriation requirement. From Release 4.70, the plan values for appropriation requirements are always saved in the controlling area and local currencies. Therefore, you must adjust appropriation requests that were created in an earlier release and use a local currency that varies from the local object currency. The easiest way to do this is to use the program RAIMCRC2 to recalculate the plan values in the local object currency for appropriation requests whose plan values are in the controlling area currency (transaction IMCRC2, menu path: Financial Accounting  -> Investment Management -> Appropriation Requests -> Tools -> Recalculate Currency Plan for Appropriation Requests). Before you run the program, select the relevant option in the Process Control section of the initial screen.
    Effects on Customizing
Adjustment of Planning and Budget Profiles
To enable the planning of investment programs, appropriation requests and jobs in a transaction currency different to the controlling area currency, you must adjust the relevant planning profiles.
To enable the budgeting of investment programs in a transaction currency different to the controlling area currency, you must adjust the relevant budget profiles.
In the planning currency (or budgeting currency) section of the planning (or budget) profile, you must define the transaction currency in which planning (or budgeting) is to be executed:
Only in the controlling area currency (default),
    Only in the object currency
(= local currency defined in object master record ) or
In a transaction currency chosen at the start of planning/budgeting
(this option is not possible for appropriation requests).
In the planning or budget profiles, you must also define the exchange rate types to be used for the conversion of total values that are not dependent on the fiscal year.
To adjust the planning profiles, use the process steps:
    Maintain Planning Profiles  (investment programs)
Maintain Planning Profile for Cost Planning (appropiation requests)
To adjust the budgeting profiles, use the process steps:
Define Budget Profiles for Investment Programs   (investment programs)
    Exchange Rate Types
In the fiscal-year-dependent data of the CO planning versions, you must also define the exchange rate types to be used for conversion of plan values that are not dependent on the fiscal year.
For conversion of fiscal-year-dependent budget values and fiscal-year-dependent plan values of appropriation request variants not yet assigned to a plan version, each exchange rate type is taken from the fiscal-year-dependent data of the CO planning versions 0.
As the plan or budget values are stored in the transaction, controlling area, and local currencies, the exchange rates used must enable the conversion of the transaction currency into the controlling area and local currencies. Where necessary, the exchange rates used must be extended.
To enter the exchange rate types, use the process step:
    Define Versions  (investment programs)
    Change Planning or Budget Currency
If you always planned or budgeted existing investment programs/measures in the controlling area currency, it is not subsequently possible to change the planning or budget currency to the object currency in the planning or budget profiles. This conversion is not prevented in Customizing, but leads to an error when you next plan or budget existing investment programs/measures. Alternatively, you can convert the planning or budget currency into the transaction currency in the planning or budget profiles, and set the object currency indicator as default.
A similar restriction does not exist for appropriation requests. You can change the planning currency in the planning profile at any time.
Use the process step under "Adjust the Planning and Budgeting Profiles".
    Detailed Planning
When you call up detailed planning from structure-based cost planning or revenue planning, the standard SAP planning profiles are used, to which the standard SAP planning layouts are assigned. These planning profiles cannot be changed in the planning transactions. Import the standard SAP planning layouts 1-401-IM, 1-402-IM, 1-403-IM, 1-701-IM,  1-702-IM and 1-703-IM using the transaction OKBF from client 000 in your client.
To execute the import, choose the process step:
    Import Standard Planning Layouts.
    Reporting Currency for IM Reporting
In IM reporting, if you want to be able to specify a reporting currency that is different to the controlling area and object currencies used in the investment program items or subordinate appropriation requests and measures, another exchange rate type is required for the due conversion of plan, budget, or values into the reporting currency. You define this exchange rate type in Customizing for the program type for the investment program to be reported ( Group Reporting).
To enter additional reporting currencies, use the process step:
    Define Program Types  (investment programs)
