Space Communication and Navigation Sr. Project Planning and Control Specialist

With 28 individuals in-house Instrument schedules, a Mission schedule, and 7 external vendors schedules residing on our Local Share Drive network, we have pushed the limits of the External Link Functionality of the MS Project Professional desktop version.
We are currently constaint to follow one of two options:
2) Work on the Network Share Drive:
MS Project crashes due to sheer volume of data (16GB of RAM)
Very long lead time for the complete IMS to open from share drive.
Limited productivity as only 1 individual can be in the live file at one time, locking other out.
2) Work on Local desktop copies
All files must be copied locally, as slack will not calculate properly unless all file comprising the IMS are on same local macjhine
Requires a large amount of a coordinated effort to ensure all schedule updates/changes are not lost by overwriting updated files with obsolete files.

Charles,
I don't see a question here but it sounds like you need to switch to Project Server.
Several things are of significant concern with your existing setup. You are using a linked structure. You have multiple users accessing the files, The files are on a network drive. You mention copying files. You mention overwriting files. The worst things
you can do with a linked structure in Project are, rename, move, overwrite, save off any files in the structure to another location, and work on a network drive. Those all lead to corruption, not if, but when.
If for some reason Project Server is out of the question, then I suggest you take steps to eliminate each of the items noted above.

    MS Project 2010 Server
How to move a single MS Project plan and it's SharePoint project site from a PWA server to another PWA server (one at a time)
I have 2 Project PWA servers, i know how to copy all the databases (Publishing, Draft, Reporting, archive, content) from one SQL server and copy it to the other PWA server so both server can be identical.
I need to only move a single project from a PWA server to another,
Moving the Project plan, actual time data, SharePoint site with all it's content
Is there a 3rd party tool that can be added on to the server to help me move single project plans? to different PWA servers?

  • SAP IDM 7.0/7.1 Project Plan and Architecture Landscape Diagrams

Need help in identifying whether there is anybody that has a generic project plan along with resources needed  in implementing IDM 7.0/7.1. I am also looking for a generic landscape diagram. Any help would be appreciated.

    Matt,
Interesting question and one that I think we can answer, but we need a few specifics first (even for a generic)
    1. Are you using 7 or 7.1?  This is a biggie since there are big differences in implementation.
    2. What's your source for Identity data?  What are your targets?  Even a basic of (Source is HR, targets are ERP, LDAP and badging app)
    3. What workflows are you implementing?
    4. What is your development approach? Dev / QA / Prod?  This can be important too.
For architecture info, take a look at some of the documents available from SAP.
Anyway, a very generic would be:
    1.0 Identify requirements
    1.1 Sources
    1.2 Targets
    1.3 Workflows
    2.0 Development Environment
    2.1 Install Core Components
    2.2 Install IdM
    2.3 Connector creation
    2.3.1 Source (X)
    2.3.2 Target A
    2.3.3 Target B
    2.4 Workflow creation
    2.4.1 Notification Tasks
    2.4.2 Self Service Tasks
    2.5.3 ...
    2.6 Unit Testing
    3.0 QA

  • Project plan and Configuration info

    Hi,
We are planning to implement SRM5.0 (Self service procurement including catalogs). I am looking for an example of a high level project plan that I can use as a base for estimating the implementation lead time.
Further, I am looking for a SRM5.0 configuration guide.
I would appreciate if someone could send the above documents to me.
My E-mail address is [email protected]
    I will award points.
    Regards,
    Ed

    Atul,
I am looking for the configuration documentation. I already have the masterguide, but that does not contain the configuration documentation. Do you have that as well? Also I am very interested in a kind of (high level) project plan for an implementation of Self service procurement via SRM.
    Thanks,

  • MobileMe and apple ID migration plan and online file /  data storage

Ok, I've not been brave enough to get started yet but I have a plan and a question to put to those who have moved from MobileMe to iCloud.
I have a mobile me account and a separate apple id. I have used the apple id for iTunes and app store purchases both on ios Devices and mac computers.
I use mobile me for syncing iCal, keychain, bookmarks, contacts etc and for iDisk which is where I keep my main Documents folders/files so that I can access them and work on them from anywhere already.
I visited the Genius bar at my local apple store today and they advised me to use the apple id for the iCloud update not MobileMe as this would enable the software to auto update etc across all my devices whereas the MobileMe upgrade to iCloud wouldn't.
    So, my plan is ....
    1) Offline back ups of everything first!
    2) turn off mobile me syncing on all devices
    3) upgrade to iCloud using apple id and create new me.com account in the process
    4) repopulate new iCloud account with all bookmarks, keychains, contacts, iCal etc from desktop running lion os.
    5) switch  on iCloud syncing on other devices using new account
    Does this make any sense?
The other  question I had relates to all the .pdf, .ppt, .doc, .xl, .jpg files I have backed up online on my iDisk. Can I copy these into my 5gb iCloud account and uses the same file directory etc to access these files from all my devices via iCloud?
Or will I need dropbox to do this?

I'm no expert. I found your question whilst looking for clues on how best to start migrating from separate apple-id (for iTunes and app store purchases) and mobile me (for data sync) accounts.
If you intend to use iTunes in the cloud and have app store software installed on your pc then I have been told today in apple store that the  auto software updates will only work if you upgrade that apple id to iCloud and keep that.
What I am thinking of doing is then using my desktop to repopulate all my old mobile me data into this new account and new mobile me email. This way I could always go back to the old MobileMe account (until June 2012) if anything goes wrong. I can forward the old mobile me email to the new a/c too

  • Exclude Managers and others in ECM Planning and Approval Iviews

    Hi All,
In the planning iviews, we would like to restrict based one the following conditions,
Manager -Level1 logs in and plans for
    1) Employees directly reporting to him(includes managers of sub org units too)
    2) And those who come under the sub org unit of the Manager's Org Unit.
for the second point , if the sub org units have Managers of A012 , then those employees should not be displayed(obviously becoz their managers have the rights )
In the Approval Iviews, we would like to restrict based one the following conditions,
Manager -Level 2 logs in and approves
    1) The Planning done by Manager Level 1
    2) Should not plan for the second level
We have checked the Exclude managers check bos in the rule selection and tried using the HRWPC_EXCL_MANAGERS BADi.
This BAdi would affect other i views where this employee search is used.
    Could you suggest ??
    Tks & rgds
    G

    Hi G,
The approval Iview is altogether different. The compensation adjustments eatrlier submitted by the line manager would be automatically available for the Higher / Approving manager and hence there is no question of Employee selection views in approval phase.
    And with respect to difference MSS_ECM_SEL_LIS - Employees from org.units and MSS_ECM_SEL_TRE -Employees from org.structure;
Employees from org.units lists the entire list of employees directly from all the subordinate org.units but there is no org.unit reference but
Employees fropm org.structure lists the subordinate org.units first in the data provider and you can select an individual org.unit or all org.units & sleect "GO" button to view the employees list.
    Hope this clarifies.

  • Cracked TV, a UPS claim, and an unusable protection plan--and poor customer service

Best Buy has some serious issues with customer service. I recently tried to exchange/return/fix a 46-inch smart TV my father purchased from BestBuy.com. It came damaged. Immediately upon walking in and asking to exchange our damaged TV, the three customer service team members took the television from us and whisked it off behind the scenes. They did not tell us what they were doing, nor did they tell us they had called in a supervisor. The supervisor (at least I presume she was the supervisor because she did not introduce herself or state why she was there) came over and said “So what’s your “story” behind the damage to the TV?” I stared blankly at her because it felt like she was accusing me of something, and she repeated, “Tell me what happened when you opened it?” I explained that because the TV arrived four days early, we didn’t have a place for it right away and we put it in an office where it would be safe. We opened it a few days later. Yes, we had assembled it, because we opened the TV with the screen away from us and assembled the base from behind. It was only when we turned the TV around that we saw the cracked screen and the shards of plastic on the floor. Then we dissembled it and put everything back in the box to take to Best Buy. Yes, we noticed some damage to the box, but it looked minor. The supervisor told me that it looked like the TV was damaged when it was installed. I told her we did not drop, kick, or otherwise damage the television. We were incredibly careful, because it was a gift and very expensive. She said the damage must have been done in transit then. Best Buy was not responsible. All they could do was put in a claim for UPS. I asked about the Geek Squad protection purchased with the TV and was told that only counted for software. I pointed out that Best Buy’s website clearly states that the stores accept returns from BestBuy.com and that Best Buy also accepts damaged returns. She didn’t reply to that, just said she was sorry and left. I work in customer service. I know people can be dishonest and are always trying to get as much as the can for very little. I also know that regardless whether the customer is right or wrong, he/she should always be treated respectfully. I do not feel I was treated with respect. I felt like a criminal from the moment the team took my TV from me. The supervisor practically accused me of lying and did not seem to listen to my explanation. She did not even stay to see the transaction through, but left (the store was fairly empty at this time) and I had to wait, twiddling my thumbs, while two other customer service members took another fifteen minutes to set up my claim with UPS. Neither one spoke or looked at me during this process. Now, I have a $500 television set with a large crack in the screen, a claim with UPS that may take weeks to resolve, a 5-year $100 protection plan on a TV I won’t ever be able to use, and a lingering bad taste about Best Buy. I have never walked out of a store feeling as small as this experience made me feel. The sad thing is that I had planned on purchasing more items from Best Buy over the next couple of months. Rest assured, they will be purchased elsewhere. The only person who smiled or wished me a good day upon exit was the guard at the door. I will not be returning to this or any Best Buy store.

    Hello eab64 –
It is regrettable that you had such a poor experience when you brought your father’s TV into our store, and for that I am truly sorry. The way the customer service associates and supervisor treated you was unacceptable. We in no way want you to feel like a criminal, or feel like you’re being accused of wrong doing when all you’re trying to do is get your product fixed. It is also clear many of the actions taken in the store may not have been clearly communicated to you.
It is standard procedure for damaged or defective TV’s brought in store to be taken in back where they can be setup and our customer service associates can perform an assessment. This should have been clearly communicated to you. Once any damage or defect was assessed, ideally the supervisor should have approached you with a solution, and not accusations.
The store did offer you the correct solution in the end, regrettably this too sounds like it was not communicated as well as it should have been. Our Return and Exchange Promise does not allow the return of damaged products, and the Geek Squad Protection (GSP) plan for televisions does not cover damage to the panel beyond burnt our pixels and image burn in. Because this damage occurred during shipping, a claim with UPS is the correct course of action. UPS claims can usually take up to 8 business days, and I am sorry we are unable to offer you a more immediate solution.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any additional questions or concerns.
    Sincerely,

  • Version control (lvcompare and lvmerge) for projects, classes and libs?

    Hi everyone
Version control for classes, projects and libs (not just a plain .vi) - can it be done with lvcompare and lvmerge?
I've tried a simple "LVCompare.exe project1.lvproj project2.lvproj" and it only returns an error (lvcompare.exe vi1.vi vi2.vi works). So this is maybe a dead end.
How do you guys version control more complex projects? E.g. projects which use classes, libs, labview projects (.lvproj)?
    Best regards
    Jonascj

Thank you for your reply. You are right, .lvclass, .lvproj and .lvlib are all just xml files - I've just figured that out my self when I accidentally called GIT's default diff on a lvclass
I've also just spoken to National Instruments. The person I spoke to (from the one of the danish offices) told me that no tools exist at this time (2013-04-08) which will compare those LabView file types, but that there was an internal (National Instruments themselves)  feature request for such tools.
He also told me another interesting thing which I did not know. The lvcompare.exe (located in National Instruments/Shared/LabVIEW Compare/ on Windows) is actually the not developed by National Instruments, but is either a "fork" of LVDiff (http://meta-diff.sourceforge.net/) or LVDiff renamed. So one could simply obtain the source code from http://meta-diff.sourceforge.net/ (at the bottom of the page "Win32 binary w/source") and add a few property nodes to do comparision of lvclass attributes etc.

  • Retraction of MM and SD data for planning use in R/3

    Hello
Is it possible to retract Material management data and sales and distribution data to R/3  ?
Do we have any slandered method to retract the data ?
I do not have any experience in retraction , so please help me with steps , how to create custom retractor if std is not available to support above retraction .
    Regards

    Hi Jain,
A retractor is an SAP NetWeaver BI process to extract data and load it into SAP ERP (and R/3). Standard retractors are available for Profitability Analysis (CO-PA), Budget Control System (BCS), Cost Center Accounting (CCA), and Project Planning and Investment Management (PS/IM).
In the development of planning solutions, you often need to send planned or calculated data to SAP ERP. The target for this data may be SAP standard tables or custom tables. SAP provides some standard retractors, but does not provide a framework to retract data outside of these areas to your SAP ERP or R/3 system.
As of now SAP dosent have standard retractors in BI for SD and MM data.
As said you can use the Open Hub Destination for the same.
    Cheers,
    Tanish.

  • Multiple currency planning and budgeting?

    Hi all
We are having a requirement of planning and budgeting in same WBS with multiple currencies and also seeing reports in different currencies on single screen.
Now has anybody explored this area and has anything to suggest.
    Thanks in anticipation
    Raman

    Hi Raman
The following is the literature from SAP on the subject. You may find it useful.
Planning and Budgeting in Any Currency
    Use
International groups often use one uniform company code currency (group currency) in CO. However, it may be necessary to plan and budget in the respective local currency as the majority of costs will be incurred in the local currency. The local currency is usually the corresponding company code currency.
Previously only budgeting of jobs (orders and projects) was possible in the local currency.
From Release 4.70, you can also budget investement programs in the local currency. In addition, it is possible to plan investment programs, appropriation requests and jobs directly in the local currency.
As was previously the case for orders and projects, plan and budget values for investment programs and appropriation requests are also saved in both the controlling area and local currencies defined in the master record of each object. If you change or re-specify the exchanged rates used, it is now possible to recalculate the values in the local currency using the values in the controlling area currency, and vice-versa.
In reporting for IM, it is even possible to calculate evaluations in any report currency (plan, budget and assigned values). If the values are available in the specified report currency, they are issued unchanged. If they are not available, they are converted from the controlling area currency into the report currency.
    Effects on Existing Data
Before Release 4.70, the plan values for appropriation requirements, were only saved in the controlling area currency. This was also the case if a local object currency was specified in the master record for the appropriation requirement. From Release 4.70, the plan values for appropriation requirements are always saved in the controlling area and local currencies. Therefore, you must adjust appropriation requests that were created in an earlier release and use a local currency that varies from the local object currency. The easiest way to do this is to use the program RAIMCRC2 to recalculate the plan values in the local object currency for appropriation requests whose plan values are in the controlling area currency (transaction IMCRC2, menu path: Financial Accounting  -> Investment Management -> Appropriation Requests -> Tools -> Recalculate Currency Plan for Appropriation Requests). Before you run the program, select the relevant option in the Process Control section of the initial screen.
    Effects on Customizing
Adjustment of Planning and Budget Profiles
To enable the planning of investment programs, appropriation requests and jobs in a transaction currency different to the controlling area currency, you must adjust the relevant planning profiles.
To enable the budgeting of investment programs in a transaction currency different to the controlling area currency, you must adjust the relevant budget profiles.
In the planning currency (or budgeting currency) section of the planning (or budget) profile, you must define the transaction currency in which planning (or budgeting) is to be executed:
Only in the controlling area currency (default),
    Only in the object currency
(= local currency defined in object master record ) or
In a transaction currency chosen at the start of planning/budgeting
(this option is not possible for appropriation requests).
In the planning or budget profiles, you must also define the exchange rate types to be used for the conversion of total values that are not dependent on the fiscal year.
To adjust the planning profiles, use the process steps:
    Maintain Planning Profiles  (investment programs)
Maintain Planning Profile for Cost Planning (appropiation requests)
To adjust the budgeting profiles, use the process steps:
Define Budget Profiles for Investment Programs   (investment programs)
    Exchange Rate Types
In the fiscal-year-dependent data of the CO planning versions, you must also define the exchange rate types to be used for conversion of plan values that are not dependent on the fiscal year.
For conversion of fiscal-year-dependent budget values and fiscal-year-dependent plan values of appropriation request variants not yet assigned to a plan version, each exchange rate type is taken from the fiscal-year-dependent data of the CO planning versions 0.
As the plan or budget values are stored in the transaction, controlling area, and local currencies, the exchange rates used must enable the conversion of the transaction currency into the controlling area and local currencies. Where necessary, the exchange rates used must be extended.
To enter the exchange rate types, use the process step:
    Define Versions  (investment programs)
    Change Planning or Budget Currency
If you always planned or budgeted existing investment programs/measures in the controlling area currency, it is not subsequently possible to change the planning or budget currency to the object currency in the planning or budget profiles. This conversion is not prevented in Customizing, but leads to an error when you next plan or budget existing investment programs/measures. Alternatively, you can convert the planning or budget currency into the transaction currency in the planning or budget profiles, and set the object currency indicator as default.
A similar restriction does not exist for appropriation requests. You can change the planning currency in the planning profile at any time.
Use the process step under "Adjust the Planning and Budgeting Profiles".
    Detailed Planning
When you call up detailed planning from structure-based cost planning or revenue planning, the standard SAP planning profiles are used, to which the standard SAP planning layouts are assigned. These planning profiles cannot be changed in the planning transactions. Import the standard SAP planning layouts 1-401-IM, 1-402-IM, 1-403-IM, 1-701-IM,  1-702-IM and 1-703-IM using the transaction OKBF from client 000 in your client.
To execute the import, choose the process step:
    Import Standard Planning Layouts.
    Reporting Currency for IM Reporting
In IM reporting, if you want to be able to specify a reporting currency that is different to the controlling area and object currencies used in the investment program items or subordinate appropriation requests and measures, another exchange rate type is required for the due conversion of plan, budget, or values into the reporting currency. You define this exchange rate type in Customizing for the program type for the investment program to be reported ( Group Reporting).
To enter additional reporting currencies, use the process step:
    Define Program Types  (investment programs)

  • Project documents listed under documents and not under projects

I have a couple of issues.  Right now we do our projects according to releases.  The issue is that if I am using project web app, all of the projects show up under one location (under projects).  If I create my own sub-site then I have a documents
app on that site by default.  I would like to have both the capability to publish the tasks and project to that site as well as have the actual project saved under the Documents directory for that site.
Thought on how I can accomplish this?

    Hi jharmon7705,
--"I would like to be able to open and work on the project by going to the project site and editing it
    from the Documents directory"--
Project Server is actually NOT working like this. The project file (ie .MPP) will never be available in the sharepoint site document librairy. Project file is hosted
on project server DBs and will always remain there.
There are many ways to access it (MS
Project Pro, PWA - project center, Sharepoint
project site) but not through the sharepoint site document librairy.
Is it a requirement from your management? Or is it just the way you'd like to manage it?
I'd advice to follow the normal process, ie the normal way to access the project site from the project
    plan and vice versa.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to display html content with image in Adobe Flash and Flex mobile project?

    Hi,
I have a html content with image in it. How to display it in Adobe Flash Builder and Flex mobile project? Which control needs to be used for this?

    Hello,
The only current way is to use an iFrame, or if you only need some html tags you could use the Text Layout Framework.
Here this is the iFrame approach:
    http://code.google.com/p/flex-iframe/
If the swc do not work in Flex4 just use its ource code which works...
...it is basically based on this:

  • Missing iviews for Personnel Cost Planning and Simulation

Hi,  We are implementing "Personnel Cost Planning and Simulation" in R/3 version 5(mySAP ERP). At present we have the following Business packs in our Enterprise Portal Server. 60.1.5 and 60.1.1(mySAP ERP 2004). We uploaded both the BP's in our test environment to make sure we get all the iveiws that we need.
SAP presentation has all the iviews, But we are unable to locate/identify under MSS the iviews for "Web Based Detail Planning for Line Managers",  "Detail Planning:  Detail Costs per Cost Object" and so forth for Personnel Cost Planning and Simulation component.
We researched other BP's such as 50.4.5 and 50.3.9 but in vain.
We truly appreciate if some can guide us to get these iviews.

Finally I got the answer and thought I can share this with you all.....
For Personnel Cost Planning and Simulation, SAP has not delivered mss iViews, but SAP has realized the detail planning pages for the line manager and the personnel cost planner by using the Business Server Page (BSP) "hrhcp_planning".
You can find the description of it's usage in the online documentation under the following path:
Human Resources>Personnel Management>Personnel Cost Planning and Simulation-->Personnel Cost Planning and Simulation Flow -->Creating Personnel Cost Plans
--> Providing Detail Planning for Line Managers
--> Detail Planning by Line Managers
--> Detail Planning by the Personnel Cost Planner
If you wish to use the detail planning page in an mss environment, you can integrate the BSP as an external service into the manager's portal. Otherwise, you can also use it, by providing the URL to the managers.
