SAP Licensing for a Test Environment

One of our clients has created a test environment physically seperate from the Production environment (That is on two seperate machines). All their purchased SAP B1 licenses are being used in the production system. If you select additional licenses, they are only temporary and expire in 14 days from creation.
How do you get valid licenses into the Test Environment that will always be active without having to reduce the licenses that are allocated to the Production system?

Thank you all for your helpful answers.
I understand about creating a test database in the Production system and it use of the same License Manager
However this does not work if you are trying to test patches or major release upgrades because once you apply the upgrade / patch to the test database in the production environment the code base is now changed and the production database would then be updated.
In order to isolate the test of upgrades, patch levels, major functionality etc., you need to build a separate environment on different hardware to do the testing. That is what we have done.
Since the license server is not shared the separate test environment needs to have a license file that reflects its hardware key.
When I go to create that license file and I specify "Test System" for the system, the license file is only created with temporary licenses which inactivate in 14 days.
I need to know if there is a way to create the license file without the licenses being inactivated and without reducing the number of licenses available to the Production System.

  • Best practice for the test environment  &  DBA plan Activities    Documents

    Dears,,
In our company, we made sizing for hardware.
    we have Three environments ( Test/Development , Training , Production ).
But, the test environment servers less than Production environment servers.
    My question is:
How to make the best practice for the test environment?
( Is there any recommendations from Oracle related to this , any PDF files help me ............ )
Also please , Can I have a detail document regarding the DBA plan activities?
I appreciate your help and advise
    Thanks

Follow your build document for the same steps you used to build production.
You should know where all your code is. You can use the deployment manager to export your configurations. Export customized files from MDS. Just follow the process again, and you will have a clean instance not containing production data.
It only takes a lot of time if your client is lacking documentation or if you re not familiar with all the parts of the environment. What's 2-3 hours compared to all the issues you will run into if you copy databases or import/export schemas?

  • Installing second domain for forms testing environment?

    Hi!
I've a physical windows server for running my forms applications (11.1). On installing fusion middleware suite I created a domain with the assistant. Further more another assistent configured my forms server into this domain.
The problem is that I've no forms testing environment. So the idea was to create another domain for testing and setup a second forms server in this new testing domain. The pysical machine has enough power to server both domains.
Is this a supported configuration and can it be done with the assistants?
    Thanks
    Markus

I wouldn't say that the additional administration effort is much or bad. I also don't agree 100% that the dev instance don't influence the prod instance when both are hosted on the same server.
When hosting both instances on one server and one oracle home you will always be on the same patchset on the OS and Oracle side.
Consider you are encountering a bug in forms when developing a new feature which is fixed in a one-off patch. To test this one-off patch in dev you most certainly will have to take down the production instance too as both of them will access the same Oracle Home and Middleware Home. Same thing is for OS patches. If you are seperating dev and prod instances on different machines you have the possibility to test your configurations proper on your test machine without influencing production.
This will guarantee you that you have always a tested environment in production.
Think about scalability: developers tend to make boo-boos while developing new things. One forms session <can> take down a whole machine (I have seen that and I have done that - on a development machine). If this happens on a development machine you have 10 angry developers which can be calmed down with a sixpack beer; 100+ people plus the managment which should be working with the software you developed are not tranquilized so easy when they cannot work for 20 minutes because of a infinite loop in development ;).
I agree that you might have additional license costs; but if memory serves Oracle VM and Oracle Enterprise Linux have no additional license costs which breaks down the costs to OFMW 11g. And I am not too sure if you have to pay (the full price) for development instances (I am a developer, not a sales person). But this is best discussed with your oracle sales representative.
Again, this is just my opinion; maybe someone else can give you more input.
    cheers

  • Best Practice - Hardware requirements for exchange test environment

    Hi Experts,
I'm new to exchange and I want to have a test environment for learning, testing ,batches and updates.
In our environment we have co-existence 2010 and 2013 and I need to have a close scenario on my test environment.
I was thinking of having an isolated (not domain joined) high end workstation laptop with (quad core i7, 32GB RAM, 1T SSD) to implement the environment on it, but the management refused and replied "do it on one of the free servers within the live production
environment at the Data Center"... !
I'm afraid of doing so not to corrupt the production environment with any mistake by my configuration "I'm not that exchange expert who could revert back if something wrong happened".
Is there a documented Microsoft recommendation on how to do it and where to do so to be able to send it to them ??
OR/ Could someone help with the best practice on where to have my test environment and how to set it up??
    Many Thanks
    Mohamed Ibrahim

I think this may be useful:
It's their official test lab set up guide.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/15392.test-lab-guide-install-exchange-server-2013.aspx
Also, your spec should be fine as long as you run the VMs within their means.

  • Is it required separate License for Adobe Test & Target?

    Hello Team,
I want to implement Adobe Test & Target for that is it requried to purchase separate License for that or it is included in CQ5 bundle?
Or is it required any things separate account for mbox?
Is it required separate License for Author and Publish instances? or we can use same for both?
Thank you so much in advance...
    Regards,
    Satish

Test & Target is software as a service, so you don't license per instance the way CQ is licensed, you pay for your usage. I am not familar with all the options, but believe it's based on how many mBox requests you run.
There are integrations to Test and Target within CQ I am honestly not sure if those are licensed in their own module or are part of a base license, you would be best off consulting with your company account representive to find out.

  • Generating SAP license for DR systems.

    Hello,
I have setup the SAP system at DR site as per the Primary systems. Now I wanted to apply the license key to DR SAP systems So can you please tell me the procedure for creating a license for DR servers.

The DR sites are basically created or set up with the same SID (at least in the environments I have worked). I believe that is in your case as well. So you need to check if there a change in the hardware key at the DR site and if yes then you will need to request an additional license based on the hardware key and install it. If the hardware keys remains the same then there is no need to install a license. Also to request a new license you do NOT need to register the system in the market place as the installation number and SID remains the same for the DR site. All you need to do is pick up the system from the installation list and click on the "Edit System" button and enter the hardware key retrieved from the DR site.

  • Licensing for a testing lab

    Hi,
I spent a bit of time wondering where to post this but I hope this is the right place.
I am putting together a plan to build a full lab test. We will be testing application configuration that run on several OS, including Windows servers.
We will virtualise the all environment and this will probably consist of something around 30 different servers.
I do not know what to do with licensing. I found
similar post  where I imagine my next step would be to contact the licensing folks, but does anyone knows the best way to get in contact with them?
    Thank you

    Hi
no. these will never be production machine. Their only for testing and troubleshooting purposes.
They will be only confined to the closed lab environment.
When looking at "Per Processor" licensing model one reads Note: Windows Server licensed under the Per Processor model requires CALs.
Now, I dont know if this is the case for physical servers only or if the hardware is not relevant.
    What about MSDN?

  • FIXED: I now have a Trial/Test License for Upgrade Test in Lab

I have a couple DMM servers at version 5.2.3, and I need to test the ability of 5.4 to work with our InformaCast Server.  I installed the 5.4 VM on ESXi, but I need a license to get the VM to send media output to a DMP in my lab setup.  I currently have 60 DMP licenses (30, plus 10 pack, plus another 10 pack), but I'm only using 39 of them, so maybe I could use one of my 10 packs which are currently on my production DMM server -- assuming I could later UNinstall them from the lab and put them back on my production box?
UPDATE:  I have the license now.  I think I should probably post a separate discussion thread now, because I realize I need to have the DMP on the same major version of software, but I'm not sure if I can downgrade after an upgrade to a DMP (in case the server is not going to work for us, at the new version).

You can downgrade a DMP the same way you upgrade it. Just select the older version of code for your player when you have finished testing in your lab environment.

  • SAP License for ABAP

    Dear all
We are using ECC6.0. We needed to some upgradation work on our development system. After this, we lost our credentials as hardware key and Expiry date with SLICENSE. It is showing an expired temporary license as Old license and two valid licenses as new licenses. But these valid licenses are not working, so I am only able to log on with SAP*, which cant work for gettin the Hardware key as desired credential. I am also not able to install temporary license as it has already expired.
So can anybody suggest me the way to install new temporary license or any other optional method to solve my issue.
    With regards

  • License for backup testing server

I'd like to set up a system to test all our database backups. My plan is a dedicated server that would cycle through our backups and test them by restoring and running dbcc checkdb etc. It would raise an email alert if there was a problem. The server would
not be serving up data to anyone.
We have several spare SQL licenses from our developers' MSDN subscriptions. Would an MSDN license cover this server or does this count as a production server? (I thought of the Express edition but some of our databases are too big.) Please advise. Thanks.

    Hello,
Since the question is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific
Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. You can also visit the following site for more information and support on licensing issues:

  • License for testing and production systems

    Hi Experts
Can any one help me out on implementing license in my B1 System.
According to our contract we have licensed following user types:
    User Type
    Licensed
    AddOn Access License    25
    Professional User                5
Software Development Kit - Development Version 20
We have Test/development system in one hardware and Production system on different hardware. Please advice me how to request/allocate license for my test/development system and production system.
We tried creating a Test System in SAP Market place and requested license for test system. While requesting license for production system, it is found that the license is exceeded. In other words, developent system license also counted.
Please advice me on the best practices of B1 license implementation.
    Thanks and regards
    Ajith G

    Hi,
Our customer wants to Keep the production data secure. Developers and consultants should not have the access to it.
Then you have only two options:
1.Either you should maintain a standalone b1 server for the developers and consultants to test their solutions and scenarios.
2.Otherwise you can create users in sql studio for accessing only the test database.
So that as per your requirement
All configurations and sample data will be kept in a test environment where developers and consultants can do their work.Once everything is correct Admin will do the transfer to production.
Note:New users can be created in the sql studio under Databases-><Company Db>->Security->Users, Rt.click new user
