SAP MMC Console (ABAP Trial) -- what's its purpose

Hi all
I've successfully installed SP12 Abap trial on a Win XP Virtual machine.
It starts sucessfully using the standard Windows Menu ==NSP==> Start Application Server.
If I use the MMC it takes much longer and there is a lot more disk activity (I'm running this stuff in a 640MB Virtual Machine --I really should give it more but I only have a 1GB laptop).
Can anyone tell me what the MMC actually does and whether there is any point in even installing it.
(Note this is for the ABAP edition only). I think you need the MMC to start the JAVA edition but there is no way I could even THINK of running that on a 640MB virtual machine.
The Abap edition actually performs OK once it's started and initial programs have been compiled.

Firstly, I don't think we need to install MMC separately, this should get installed automatically after the installation
of trial version.
I would suggest downgrading the version of java with j2sdk1.4.2_04 to 08 anything between these two.
And try again.
And is the version that you have downloaded compatible with Windows 7.
That coulbe a problem.

SAP NW7.01 ABAP Trial version installation error on windows 7

I m trying to install SAP NW7.01 ABAP Trial version on my PC having Windows 7 in it. Firstly i have configured MS Loopback Adapter and installed SAP Management Console as describe in Installation guide. Now when i just start to run setup.exe , it just start and giving me   " could not utilize start class:com,installshield.wizard.Wizard " error. i thought it is because of somewhat java.
Then i have set Environment variable--> PATH as C:\j2sdk1.4.2_19\bin   and again try. but doesnt work. Plz help me what to do?? Is this error regarding any java problem or any other??
Currently i have installed this java versions for this.
Java 2 Runtime environment             1.4.2_19
java 2 SDK                                         1.4.2_19

Hi all
I've read your entrys.
Saw that the solution is missing.
It can be found in the manuals:
1. Download the "Registry Clean Tool for SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP" and use it.
2. Download the latest Version of "SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP" and un-rar it.
3. Install the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" an activate it.
4. Retry to install.
Summary:
So the error 200 was caused for the first time from trying an installation without a Loopback Adapter, and after that from trying to re-install without cleaning the registry.
Now its working fine.

Instance Status Yellow on SAP MMC Console

Dear Experts,
We are installing NW 7.0 dialog instance on Windowsx64 bit platform, Central instance is running on Aix64 bit,
NW 7.0 Java add-in has installed on Central instance,
I want to start only abap instance on new windows application server, i set rdisp/j2ee_start parameter to "0",
Now java process do not start but SAP mmc console status is yellow because of it, disp+dowk process message is J2EE status info unavaliable,
How can unistall Java instance from newly instaled application server ?

Regarding the MMC display "J2EE status info unavailable", as you don't want a dual stack remove the entry icm/HTTP/j2ee_0 from the instance profile and set the parameter 'is/HTTP/default_root_hdl = abap'.
Please reboot your system (bounce OS) to see if this helps.
If this does not help please try this.
1. Stop the SAP service
2. Open a command prompt
3. Go to usr\sap\<SID>\...\exe\run
4. call 'sapstartsrv.exe -t' from the command line
5. Confirm the dialog window
6. Start the service again

Install License Key for SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP trial Edition.

Hello.
I have two installations of the SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP trial Edition (on desktop and laptop). After the expiration of the original 30 days license; now I need to install the extended License (90 days). I am using SLICESE transaction from SAP* user account to install the new license. I have got the "License Key" from SAP website. However, the installation of the new License Key fails to complete successfully (it fails to add the new license key) and ends with an error prompt. This problem is happening on both systems! Has anyone experienced such problem? What did you do to fix it?
Note: no errors in typing in the new Key, as I used the copy and paste!

Thanks again for your help. I found out that if you try to install the new license key (first time) with any error (such as wrong expiration date), it will fail as "invalid key", naturally. However, the subsequent attempts also continues to fail despite the fact that the correction are made. the only way I could fix this was to stop and restart the SAP Application server and make sure that the first attempt has typos. It seems to me that once an error flag is set, it is not removed unless the server is restarted. well, the problem is fixed now and thank you for your help.

GUI error on SE80 in SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP trial Edition

I have SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP trial Edition installed on WinXP. one problem is that when I run T-code SE80 (Object Navigator) the middle section of the left part of the screen (where it would normally allows you to select object type for display) is not painted. it is just a block of white space! Other parts of the screen seems to work fine (both Top and Bottom sections). Has anyone had such problem? What can I do to fix it? Thank you for your help

That does not automatically start your instance. Have a look at the shortcuts SAP installed in your startmenu. There's both a startscript and a stopscript.

Excuse my arrogance but I got very annoyed with this thing.
The other day I downloaded the Forte thing to have a squiz
at Java. Now, it silently installed the Java Webstart as well
as the JRE.
The JRE broke things necessitating its prompt execution. As an
example I first noticed it when I went to this site http://www2b.abc.net.au/science/k2/stn/ The applet on the top frame
on the right was no longer functional as well as giving me an
irritating coffee cup icon on my sys-tray. An icon that cannot be
killed nor does it serve any useful purpose when viewing a page..
Another example was on a couple of applets I have, the applets work
without problem until the JRE pocked its head. All I ended up with
was a blank section where the applet is meant to be and more silly
useless icons on the sys-tray that I have never needed in the past..
All I have ever needed in the past was msjavx86. The JRE gets installed without my permission as does Webstart in the package, and
neither have any intelligent, easily accessible documentation as to
what they are or actually do that necessitates their existence.

I have successfully installed NW 2004s ABAP Trial Version from the DVD in the SAP Press book: ABAP Objects.
I requested a trial key (version SP8 or less) and received the following (I can't find what version has actually been installed):

Hi There;
Has been quite some time since the day I first installed the trial version. But if I remember correctly, you automatically got a temporary license (4 weeks ?) after a successful installation. When it expires then you renew it ( the step you just did ).
Please go to transaction slicence to check the temp permit (expiry date).

I am installing SAPNW7.01 ABAP trial version.. getting following Error nessage ..ANy idea?
The installer is unable to run in graphical mode. Try running the installer with the -console or -silent flag.
I have WINDOWS VISTA with 32bit..I read in document for SAPNW7.01 ABAP trial vesrion, it can be installed on windows vista also..
Any one has any idea? I suspect it is error bcz of Java files..but I am not sure..

At first see where java is installed i.e JDK directory, as per as my knowledge it will be in WINDOWS directory like C drive.
For setting environmental variable (i.e JAVA_HOME,PATH), please follow the below link

SAP NW 2004s ABAP Trial Version on Virtual Machine

Good afternoon!
I need to install SAP NW from subj on Windows Server 2003 SP2 on Virtual Machine VMWare WorkStation. VM is also installed on Windows Server 2003 SP2.
The installation of NW completes successfully but I can't start the SAP server from SAP Manegement Console. disp+work.exe doesn't start but the message server starts successfully.
What the problem can be?

I too am facing the same problem. I have installed Windows XP image on virtualbox on my Windows Vista laptop.
Installation was succesful however the disp+work.exe fails error was received.
How do I check the two items that you have mentioned?
I'm sorry if these queries are a bit silly, but I'd be glad to resolve this error.
