SAP NW CE 7.1 SOA Experience Workshop

Hi,
I want to work with the "SOA Experience Workshop". I have installed the server, the NWDS and the ES Repository correctly. The Probleme occures when I set the additional settings in the NWDS. I have imported the "SOA_Experience_1_0.sca" to the "Local Development". After this I selected all imported nodes to create a project. Next step I want to deploy all projects, but I get this failure message:

  • Availability of the SAP Discovery System for Enterprise SOA

    Hello Everybody,
will the SAP Discovery System for Enterprise SOA only be avaliable as a appliance as I've read on NetWeaver04s on Discovery System? Will there be a normal installation like a IDES System?
Perhaps a good idea for a quick start would be a peinstalled Linux Based VMWare Image :-).
    Regards
    Gregor

    Hi Gregor,
among the reasons for shipping the Discovery System as an appliance are legal reasons. So as long as there are 3rd party components involved (from SAP perspective) you'd need to be an official distributor for them. Obviously this restriction applies to VMWare Images as well.
An IDES-like installation is facing the challenge of integrating multiple components (that normally have to be installed separately) and their configuration data during the set-up already. This can be done as the example of Rapid Installer shows. But it is certainly more work to accomplish it.
As always: Making a complex system easy to use/set-up requires extended efforts behind the scenes. So it is always necessary to find the trade-off between "time to market" and "plug-and-play". So currently the availability as appliance is a compromise of both.

I dont have any experience in SAP, but want to learn and get into SAP career.....how do I begin please suggest
    Thanks

    vapin,
Search for online training institutes on the net. Each of these gives a demo. By attending the demo make a selection of the institute.
On Youtube too, there are lots of SD training videos. Check those.
    TW
Added: A good trainer will have the following:
1 - give business examples, to explain functionalities
e.g. intercompany sale process: the process from his experience, what are the key benefits to business etc.
IMP: Functional consultant is first about understanding the business process and second about configuration etc. in SAP
    2 - patience
he should not be reluctant to answer your questions properly
he should sense how you are understanding the concepts, and take necessary actions
    3 - mentor
what should be your next steps - how to prepare SD, how to prepare your resume, how to prepare for interviews etc. etc.

  • SAP NetWeaver Portal on HP-Hardware - Experience?

    Hi @All,
we are using an SAP NetWeaver Portal on HPUX PA 11.11 but the response time is very long even with 8 CPU and a lot of RAM.
In the past I've made good experiences with Linux on AMD with 64 bit but this woud be a real big change us.
    Somebody used itellium CPU's?
From my point of view we have these options:
    -> HP UX PA 11.11
    -> HP UX IA
    -> Linux AMD
I'm interessted in the performance of the different solutions.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Best regards,
    Michael

    Hi James,
    yes for sure.
But in fact: HPUX on PA is much slower than Linux on AMD running the same portal.
So the question is what do use for the future:
    HPUX PA
    HPUX IA
    Linux AMD
    Best regards,

  • Patch SAP 2005 A sp1 to PL14 experience

Good Morning, ( I hope some of you may find our patch experience helpful)
Yesterday (1/16/07) We patched our 2005 A SQL sp1 server to PL 14 from PL 4 running on Windows Server 2003 with SP1 and SQL Server 2005 (not SP1 yet).
The documentation instructed us to install to PL 10 first then on to PL14.  We followed this instruction.
We could not get the "Install Interface" -Upgrade Server Tools --> Install or the Common Upgrade -->Install routines to work at all.
We attempted to manually upgrade each package --> ServerTools, DI API, SDK, CommonUpgrader as per the instructions in Upgrade.pdf for SQL 2005.  This routine did not work.
We Uninstalled each component separately (AddRemove tool in Windows) as noted on line 5 in the PatchReadme.pdf file, then reinstalled each component manually.  This method DID work.
I think your documentation should be amended to add this method if the current printed method does not work for a particular installation.
Then we upgraded a Client which in turn Upgraded the Company database to PL 10.  Then we upgraded the rest of our clients.  All Successful.
Then we attempted to patch to PL 14.  Same issue as above with the "interface".
Installing directly over PL 10 did not work and we had to uninstall and re-install each component separately and manually.
When installing UpgraderCommon to PL14, an error message box very near the end of the process (when running the "TmSp_CopyCompany" Stored Procedure) popped up stating:
[SQL ......][....][ ...    ] "Must declare the scalar variable @Cmd"
Click OK and then the Upgrader Routine "apparently" finished...??  Logging on to the compnay through a client gave no indication that the database had changed from PL10, eventhough the client upgraded to PL14.
I looked through the Patch files and found these two TmSp_CopyCompany.txt files relating to the "TmSp_CopyCompany" in these directories (where I had unzipped the Patch Files):
    "F:\SAP Patches\Patch 14\Packages\Upgrader Common\Setup\Queries\Sp\1" and "F:\SAP Patches\Patch 14\Packages\Upgrader Common\Setup\Queries\Sp\4"
I changed the @cmd variable definition to @Cmd to match the two places in each text file's Stored Procedure where the @Cmd variable was called and re-ran the UpgraderCommon setup.exe.  This time the routine completed without the message box error.  You may want to make sure these files are edited for CASE sensitive SQL installations.
I opened the Company in a Client - updated the Client to PL 14, but did not get the "update your database" message this time either, so I didn't know if the database had been patched to PL 14.  The clients appear to connect to the company and the staff could get back to work, so I left the Patch in that condition.
Later, after hours, I looked at the SBO_COMMON database and found a database at 177 MB and a log file at 4.9gig!  I backed up the SBO-COMMON database, tried to shrink the database, then the log file only several times, setting the filesize to 500MB in an attempt to get the ldf file to shrink.  I restored from the backup and tried to shrink again... all to no avail!  All these methods were using the SQL 2005 manager interface-not direct SQL statments.
Finally, I deleted the SBO-COMMON database then ran the PL14 UpgraderCommon Setup.exe.  This created a new SBO-COMMON database (76MB data and 40MB log).  Much better.
I logged on to the company through a client, no indication of any changes were presented and the clients appear to be connecting and working properly at PL14.
According to HELP/ABOUT in the client (Version: SAP Business One 2005 A (6.80.318) SP:01 PL:14).
Question(s):  How can we know that the database version and the Client Version are patched to the same level?  or since it appears to be working now, it is ok? or will we see some issues in the future?
Does anyone know the effects of upgrading to the SQL server to SP1 ?

    Hi,
looks like MSSQL Server 2005 uses wrong collation settings. This can be the reason for other unexpected issues with B1 as well.
How to solve that, just do a note search at <a href="http://service.sap.com">http://service.sap.com</a> or
    a) if you are a customer ask your partner
    b) if you are a partner have a look into an empowerment session at <a href="http://service.sap.com/smb">http://service.sap.com/smb</a> section self/help or ask SAP B1 support.
Q How can we know that the database version and the Client Version are patched to the same level? or since it appears to be working now, it is ok?
A As soon as Softwareversion does not hit DB version of SBO Common and Customer DB, you get an info during login into B1. If you are logged in sucessfully go to Help->About SAP B1 and find out your currently used Patchlevel
Q or will we see some issues in the future?

  • SAP PM FRESHER JOB WITH DOMAIN EXPERIENCE

hai all  .........i am working in a manufacturing (MNC)company, and i have 3+ years of maintenance experience ......now I would like to change my career path into SAP and  i learnt SAP PM (not certified.)module also, which is related to my experience. Now my question is may i try as a SAP PM fresher....? because, now a days many people are following shortcuts to enter in to SAP.But I don't Want to do that...can anybody suggest for this issue...i am ready to work with commitment.....can anybody give a chance....i am waiting for your valuable reply.
    Thank you.

    Hi Satya,
If yoy dont have any experience with any module in SAP then it is better to get trained in some good institute and get certified. Then atleast you will be able to compete in the market. But Remember Certification is not the only parameter you require all you need is a good deep understanding on the basics. As we all know hardwork always pays. Put Your effort and persist on it surely you will get the desired result.
Please go through the below blogs, it will give you better ideas

  • SAP's commitment to the SOA Discovery Server

Just wanted to make sure that SAP understands the need for a more involved support for the SOA discovery server.
    Ordering.
    Licensing.
This marketing tool is suffering from "gray" areas in the support that neither HP or SAP are addressing correctly.
We have put effort, time and money in acquiring this BOX and there is a need for a formal support.
One will expect that all partners involved in this "marketing tool" are accomodating to those that want to invest the time and money to look at it.
There are products from HP, Microsoft and SAP that need to be licensed. The box comes without an advanced iLO license from HP and we still chasing for one.
SAP products will require an installation number and the licenses to be registered. Still need to find who will do this. There are many in the Americas that don't know what I mean by SOA Discovery Server ! !.

    cancelled.....will deal with local reps.

  • SOA based direction and path of SAP & SAP PI's role as SOA Middleware in it

    Hi Gurus
I am trying to get knowledge on XI/PI SOA capabilities.
Also in particular how the following components such as BPM, Business Rules Manager, Service Repository and Registry, Web Services and BPEL will help in building in SOA and the roles of these PI 7.1 components in it.
And is NW Composition Environment a subset of PI 7.1 ??
Any web blogs or documentation on this topics will be very helpful to me.
Please, enlighten me ; your help is greatly appreciated!!
    Thank you,
    Ritu

your question is having very large scope,
    1) for PI component role in SOA , please go to SOA area of sdn , go through the concept, and ask questions specifically.
    2) NE CE is not subset of PI .

I am a QA & ISO Compliance professional with no knowledge and experience in SAP, but i am looking forward to become a SAP professional. Based on my experience with ISO 14001 (Environment Management) & ISO 50001 (Energy Management) i am interested in ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT option, but i am not curious to know about the path towards the mentioned goal. I also have a degree in mechanical engineering. I have following questions:
Is an IT background or knowledge of programming a pre-requisite ?
What module would "ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT" be under ?
Before going in for training and certification, what i should study or be prepare with ?

  • Will GRC AC RAR (CC) add value to SOA  based SAP implementation?

    Hello GRC Experts,
I thought of asking other GRC experts to get their opinions on the GRC AC RAR for the following scenario:
These days there are numerous SAP clients implementing SOA based Composite Applications using the CAF. These SAP PORTAL applications use Adaptive RFC (direct calls) and Web services calls (thru PI/middleware) to the back end SAP applications to complete the 75-100% of the work. The remaining 0-25% work may be completed using the transaction codes. There are also calls to the back end systems originating from non-SAP applications using the web services via some middleware tool to complete the 100% work.
When the GRC AC RAR deals only transaction codes and their associated authorization objects, how do you assess the risk for this type of access in GRC AC RAR and how do you build a custom rules matrix for this type of applications?
    Thanks,
    Himadama

    Hello again,
Has anyone implemented SAP GRC RAR for the SOA based application? What are the challenges faced? If this is not possible, then anyone has any idea if this is covered in GRC AC 2010 version.
    Regards,
    Himadama

  • SAP XI in SOA

    HI,
We have SAP R/3 4.7, SAP SRM4.0, SAP CRM4.0 and SAP BW-SEM4.0 in system landscape. The implementation is following SOA (Service Oriented Architecture).
    1. There is CRM middleware is available to integrate CRM with SAP R/3.
    2. SAP BW connector to talk with SAP R/3
    3. SAP SRM, SAP connector to integrate with SAP R/3.
As the above three options are not based on SOA. It is SAP proprietary adapter/connector.
Can we go ahead with SAP XI and adhere to SOA? What kind of advantages or problems could occur?
    Please comment ASAP
    Thanks & Regards,
    Himanshu

    Hi,
<i>1. There is CRM middleware is available to integrate CRM with SAP R/3.
    <b>CRM -> XI -> R/3</b>
    2. SAP BW connector to talk with SAP R/3
    <b>BW -> XI -> R/3</b>
    3. SAP SRM, SAP connector to integrate with SAP R/3.</i>
    <b>SRM -> XI -> R/3</b>
SAP is strongly recomending its customers to use XI for integrationingheterogeneous systems, instead of using point to point proprietery software. Its one system for all intergration solutions.
<i>Can we go ahead with SAP XI and adhere to SOA? What kind of advantages or problems could occur?</i>
There are standard cook books avalible on service.sap.com for the above scenarios using XI. Its a no brainer. In terms of advantages, there are a ton, less of effort, less on maintanence, one integration solution. the list goes on.

  • Misc. questions about SAP's SOA software

    Hello,
I am a computer science student at the Fachhochschule Aachen in Germany and I'm writing my master thesis about serviceoriented architectures.
Amongst other products I plan to present what SAP has to offer for SOA. But I'm missing some information, which I couldn't find at the website. I hope somebody can help me with my questions:
    1) What are the products you need for building a basic SOA? Is the Application Server + Business Intelligence + Exchange Infrastructure enough? And how about something like an ESB? Is Exchange Infrastructure an ESB?
    2) In my thesis I describe several standards that help with serviceoriented architectures. I want to check if these standards are implemented and if they are, in which product, which version and how extensively? These standards are:
    - WS-Policy, WS-Adressing
    - JBI (Java Business Integration)
    - SCA/SDO (Service Component Architecture/Service Data Objects)
    - BPEL (Business Process Execution Language)
    - WS-CDL (Web Service Choreography Description Language)
Are there other important (open) standards i didn't mention (other than the real basic stuff, WSDL, SOAP etc)?
    3) What tools does SAP provide for testing and debugging the services and processes?
    4) What tools does SAP provide for Business Process Management? What about process modelling?
    5) What support does SAP provide for new customers, that are building their first SOA?
I know there is much documentation about all this stuff, but this will take only 2-3 pages of my thesis, so I don't have time to read hundreds of pages of documentation.
Every help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Ok let me try...
    1) One of the Key building blogs will be the SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1. Its provides the ES Repository for Service Metadata and the ES Registry for the Service Endpoints. The Registry you use for finding and classifcation of your services. Any yes XI/PI could be used as ESB.
Another keybuilding block is the SAP NetWeaver Composition Enviroment 7.1. This one is used at Design and Runtime for Composite Process, Composite Views and Composite Application which consume Enterprise Services.
    2) WS-Poilcy, WS-Adressing and BPEL is defenetly supported with PI 7.1(release planned for september 2007)
    3) This a part of the NetWeaver Composition Enviroment. For Monitoring you need brokered Service communication... in this case you can use PI as integration Broker which is able to monitor your communication.
    4) Exacutable Business Process(BPEL) are supported by PI 7.1
You are able to Design these processes with the Design tools of the PI.
For Highlevel Process modeling ARIS for SAP Netweaver is integrated.
So from High Level Process models drill down to theService Operations are all part of the Enterprise Service Repository and can be used to realise you business tasks.
    5) SAP provide the ES Workplace and SAP Discovery System for Enterprise SOA

    Robin

From our experience, we decided to have our server re-imaged and re-installed all the necessary Oracle Suites. We believe something in the registry was preventing us from installing the application adapter. Once we cleaned out our box, everything went well and we were able to install the Application Adapter with no error. This may not be ideal if you are in a production environment, but for development this maybe quick and clean.
