SAP on OS400

Hi,
we've installed mySAP ERP 2004 on OS400 (V5R3)/DB400. After installation, when i checked system performance avarage response time seems to be nearly 2 seconds and most of the time is spent in DB access. Neary %70 of avarage response time.
So i started to think about configuring DB400 to run better. Is the any recommendation about performance settings of OS400 or DB400. Also is there any mechanism like Optimizer Statistics on DB400?
regards

  • Is it possible to read the user in a user defined fuction in a PI mapping?

I am running PI 7.0. I have a service call to the HTTP adapter on my Integration Engine to initiate a message. I would like to capture the username used to connect to the HTTP service when this message was called.
The call is initiated with the endpoint http://<myhost>:<http port>/sap/xi/engine?type=entry&sap-user=THISUSER&sap-password=MyPassword&version=3.0&Sender.Service=MyBServ&Interface=MyNamespace^MyInterface
When I look at the message in the RWB, I can see that the username is captured as part of the SOAP Header, in the RunTime area of the input message,

Is there a way that I can return this username in a User Defined Function (UDF)?

You have to make use of the ASMA....dynamic configuration....sap-user will be a URL paarmeter....check point4  from this help section: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi711/helpdata/en/43/64db4daf9f30b4e10000000a11466f/content.htm

  • RFC connection from SAP R/3 to OS400 server

    Hi,
I am trying to establish an rfc connection between an R/3 system and OS400 server.
I dont have much experience on communication interfaces i have seen different options in SAPRFC.ini file but still i wanted to get some expert comments from the experts.
    Please help me on this.
    Thanks
    Junaid.

    Hi,
We had the same scenario here also. You can call .NET code from ABAP program using SAP .Net connector.
The data can be downloaded to SQL server based on periodic job wise (every Half an hour or 1 Hour) .
    1. Write an ABAP report to get new personnal numbers from HR master tables based on created date.
    2. Create a RFC to pass employees details.
    3. You can create a proxy in .NET server stub code based on the above RFC.
    4. Write code to get data .NET object and establise a connection to SQL server.
    5. Write code to push data into SQL server tables.
    6. After you complete the .NET code, when you generate this code will create an exe file.
    7. You have to execute that exe with few command line arguments.
    8. The command line arguments need to setup in RFC destination (SM59).
    9. In that ABAP report call this RFC with RFC destination as you defined.
.NET code can be done by .NET person.
Let me know if you have any clarifications.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Govind.

  • Unable to login: SAP System Message: Dynpro does not exist

    Hello All,
I'm created a test system to practice our upgrade post steps on.  I created a pared down copy of one of our other systems.  When I try to login, I get a popup message saying: Dynpro does not exist.
To create the pared down version, we used empty files for:
    COEP
    GLPCA
    BALDAT
    MSEG
    BSIS
    LIPS
    LTAP
    CE1LPOC
    ZHYPFIT
    BALHDR
    VBFA
    COSP
    COSB
    CDCLS
    ZHYPF2A
    /IRM0760
    CDHDR
    COSS
    CMFP
    CHVW
    RESB
    ZHYPFIO
    AUSP
    VBOX
    JCDS
    VBAP
We don't think these being empty is the problem, but I wanted to mention it just incase it is.
Below is the dev_w0 log.  I've been searching Google / SDN / OSS for some of the errors but haven't come up with anything yet.
Any insight you might have into this would be appreciated.  Thank you.

  • File Sender - get files from DB4 and OS400

    Hi,
I'm configuring File - IDOC scenario on XI system, which is on Win platform. I want to pick up flat txt files on DB4 and OS400 via FTP but I+m constantly getting message:
Could not process due to error: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550  Not authorized to file /sapmnt/trans/sucelja/sap_izlaz/ksuckd03.txt
What could be a reason for that error, according to OS400 admin, FTP user is ok, and has all rights to acces this file. I also tried to us \ as separator but no luck.
Maybe is important, OS400 is SAP server and /sapmnt/ is mount of where SAP is installed....
    thx mario

I solved it. File didn't have appropriate atributes. It is hard to check file attributes on SAP, so I coded program that uses feature of OS400/SAP(not sure which one), that is file and directory structure represented UNIX like, and my program for
    ls -al /usr/sap/trans/sucelja/sap_izlaz/ksuckd03.txt
    responded with
    <i>-rwxrwxrwx   1 dvk10    r3group        2682 Oct  3 12:54 /usr/sap/trans/sucelja/sap_izlaz/ksuckd03.txt</i>
it was not to hard to do
    chmod 777 /usr/sap/trans/sucelja/sap_izlaz/ksuckd03.txt

I think we can achieve this throught Heterogeneous system copy .
    Source system    Target system
    NW2004 -BI 7.0   NW2004 -BI 7.0
    DB4 V5R4           Oracle 10G
    OS400               Win2003 x64

    Hi
You need perform a heterogeneus system copy with sapinst
    Chose the sap system->Software Life-Cycle options->system copy->database
    And perform in tree steps
    export preparation
    table splitting preparation
    database istance export
It create a export database, and with the sapinst you import in Target system
    More info

  • Performance tuning for OS400 - three instances

I have an OS400 LPAR that has been setup with 10GB RAM and 40GB swap space.
The LPAR supports three SAP systems, a development ERP, QA ERP and PI Development system (ABAP+JAVA). All systems are based from the Netweaver 7.0 stack.
Quite often the CPU maxes at 100% of utilization. This occurs even when the DB02 transaction is started and CPU will hit 100% for approximately 30 seconds (the time for DB02 to load is about 35 seconds).

Does this appear to be a CPU related limitation for performance or am I able to better tune the memory/disk allocation?
Quite often the Java stack on the PI system seems to hang and needs to be restarted.
Would it be useful for me to split the memory in multiple pools to support ERP and the PI systems separately?
    Thanks for your assistance!

    Hi Satid,
Thanks for your comments. In regards to your query, the Processor feature value is 5460.
I have granted this LPAR some additional resources, being 0.8 CPU and 16GB of RAM, (originally, 1.2CPU and 18GB RAM was planned however, there were max limits originally configured which I decided to abide by for the interim).
The performance is significantly better now.
I'm still centering on the Java Garbage Collector as its usually around this that performance is impacted.

From the std_server0.out logs, I have the following impression:
    - maximum heap size is set too low (currently set at 4096MB)
    - initial heap size set too low (currently 1024MB)
    - garbage collection unable to keep up
I appreciate any suggestions to tune these settings.
I'm thinking of setting the following:
    - initial heap size to 2048MB
    - maximum heap size to 8192MB
Would this be suitable considering there are three instances running on the same partition with Java being allocated this amount of memory. I'm open to suggestions to refine these figures.
    Thanks!

  • Multiple SAP Systems with one Unique ID

    Hi,
SAP recommend to have <sidadm> and <sapserviceSID> user account for each system.
Currently we create domain users for each SAP System.  We are installing many test servers and trying to see if I can avoid creating domain user account for each system and use only one account to administer all test sap systems.
Just wanted to know if there is any way to have one domain SIDADM user id and one domain SAPService user account to run multiple test SAP systems?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Multiple test system you have different SID. so you must use different SAPserviceSID user. But you can use one SIDADM user with the proper permission with other test systems.
I have used in OS400 environment with single SIDADM user id.
please check with users with permission sap notes or document.
    But SAP not recommanded this.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Jibin.

  • Unable to start the SAP instance - work processes are terminated

    Hello,
We are implementing SAP ECC 6.0 on iSeries, i5/OS V5R4.
The application server & the database server are implemented on one centralized physical iSeries server.
We recently attempted to copy one SAP system (DEV) from one iSeries server to another, through restoring from an Entire System backup.
After successfully conducting the restore onto the new (destination) iSeries server, and conducting all the necessary host name changes to be the same as the host name of the source system, we encountered a problem when trying to start the SAP : all the jobs under sub-system R3_00 are started, except the jobs constituting the SAP work processes; i.e. WP00, WP01, …etc.
The following is the file holding the SAP start log :

  • OS400 HTTP Responses

    Hi,
We're running our Production BI 7.0 System on Os400 V5R4 with 8 CPU and 64 GB RAM. Currently project is not live and very small amount of users are accessing the system.
Portal and BI Java are running on a seperate Windows System.
    The problem we noticed that is;
    - SAPGUI access is very good to BI System and we are happy with response times.
    - But when we call BI Web Reports via HTTP, it takes very long time to load the initial query screen and then result screen.
We wonder if there are specific HTTP Settings for OS400 and for BI on OS400.
    Regards

    Hello Huseyin,
How is the response time when reporting from BEx (Excel-like interface)?
If it is good, please look at tuing for SAPhttp and/or ICM of SAP. Native http of OS/400 is not being used, from my understanding.
If not, there are many specific BI/BW settings for DB2/400 (OS400), like Note 307077...
    Best regards,
    Victor

  • Saposcol not running in OS400 - how to start in OS level

    Hi everyone,
I am new to iSeries and I'm having trouble starting saposcol. My system is running in OS400 SAP ECC6.0 Kernel release 700.
ST06 is not displaying updated data so I killed the saposcol process in the OS level using <sid>OFR user. Everytime i tried to submit a job CALL PGM(SAPOSCOL) PARM ('-l') to start it, i only get the message "Job 040584/<sid>OFR/SAPOSCOL submitted to job queue QBATCH in library QGPL." But nothing happens after that.
When I check job queue QBATCH, it doesnt contain any job. I displayed all the jobs and found out that all the saposcol I called is in the OUTQ status. I still get the saposcol not runing error in ST06. I tried starting it in ST06 but it still gives me the error that saposcol is not running, shared memory not available. Can anyone please tell me how to start the saposcol? Thanks.

    Hi Sheryl,
We have had numerous problems with our OS Collector for the last several years too.  I have a few steps that I follow to start the OS Collector when our collector fails.
1 - Make sure saposcol is using the latest patch from service.sap.com.
2 - Sign on to system as <SID>OFR and run the following commands.
    CALL PGM(SAPOSCOL) PARM('-d')
Brings up the saposcol program in a dialog mode for commands to be keyed
key in the following in the saposcol dialog:  clean
         Cleans shared memory
    key in the following:  quit
Stop the OS collector with the following command:
    CALL PGM(SAPOSCOL) PARM('-k')
key in the following in the saposcol dialog:  leave
a message "shared memory deleted" or "shared memory not attached" should be displayed
    key in the following:  quit
Change directory to /usr/sap/tmp and rename file coll.put (rename to coll.put.old)
Try to start the OS Collector from ST06.  Wait about 5 minutes and refresh statistics.
3 - Open a customer message with SAP.  SAP has been very helpful with our saposcol restarts.
    Hope this helps!

  • OS400/DB2 vs Windows/SQL

I am currently running ECC 6 on an iSeries/OS400 with DB2. The system is adequate for the number of users that I currently have but i am about to add MM and SD to the system, therefore adding users, and do not belive that the system is sized adequately. I am in the process of sizing but also thinking of migrating from OS400 to Windows/SQL. I've done some research to see what is needed for this migration but what I'm looking for are opinions on migrating or war stories. I would like to know what your opinions are (should I stay with OS400 DB2 or jump to Windows), if you have performed a migration yourself, pros and cons to doing so, etc..
Also, can anyone point me in the direction of statistics that show what percentage of people run on the iSeries vs Windows?

    Hi Bob,
    first of all:
YOU should make a decision on the platform yourself and that should be definetely based on the knowledge in your company. There is no use at all with an SAP system, that nobody can support. If this works for both platforms, you could think on a migration.
Statistics are not out to my best knowledge, but that should not be the point here - the system should fit to YOUR COMPANY. Therefore, YOU need to be happy with that one.
You can run SAP reliable, fast & stable on any platform IF you and your consultants are used to that platform.
    Pros & Cons ?
I would say, everything works the same from the standpoint of endusers. You in the basis will have to work a lot different ...
If you are using only official interfaces, the change is pretty easy. If you are using direct access to the database with DDMFs or CRTSAPLF or similar, this looks different, this all needs to be changed.
We did many migrations in all directions, but we never try to convince, or even worth - persuade - customers on such decisions. Customers have to make this decision (and later have to live with that) and then we can do the technical job, that is needed, in order to reach this goal on a reliable basis.
