SAP SDLC

Hi All
Need help in understanding SAP's SDLC for ABAP Objects in depth (real time not bookish in nature). Also need to relate the various team members roles in the entire process (eg. what roles do PM, TL play & at what stages etc.)
rgds / Kamal

Hi
System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is the process of developing information systems through investigation, analysis, design, implementation and maintenance. SDLC is also known as information systems development or application development. SDLC is a systems approach to problem solving and is made up of several phases, each comprised of multiple steps:
- The software concept - identifies and defines a need for the new system
- A requirements analysis - analyzes the information needs of the end users
- The architectural design - creates a blueprint for the design with the necessary specifications for the hardware, software, people and data resources
- Coding and debugging - creates and programs the final system
- System testing - evaluates the system's actual functionality in relation to expected or intended functionality

  • SAP Netweaver Architect Document and its place in SDLC

    Hi All,
I am looking forward to look at a sample SAP Netweaver Architect Documument or a Template and want to understand the scope and all details included in the perview of this document.
I understand that Tech Architect Document will be prepared in SDLC after the blueprint is generated.
And a Tech Architect document has the entire landscape integration details along with Non Functional details like performance , scalability etc.
Can some one please send a sample Technical Architect Document based on SAP Netweaver ( Portal ) and explain where does it commence in SDLC .
    Many Thanks,
    Richa

    Hi Richa,
a good place to start would be the Master Guide to NW 7.4 SR1 on SAP Market Place which is here.
The guide goes through everything for planning a NW installation including of course Portal and planning the Landscape design and architectura questions.
    Best regards,
    Andy.

  • What exactly are the SAP Testing Methodologies?

    Hi,
I am researching on the various testing methodologies in SAP and came across a couple of discussions such as this link:
    testing methodologies in sap
    It mainly discusses:
AcceleratedSAP (ASAP) methodology, and tools available for AcceleratedSAP such as Project Estimator, ASAP Implementation Roadmap and Project Plan, etc
I do not see those as TESTING more so as approaches for implementation such as SDLC or the Accenture Development Life Cycle.
    1. Am I misunderstanding what they mean in the SAP environment as u201CSAP Testing Methodologiesu201C ?
    2. What does it mean when a job description indicates
"Knowledge of software development and testing methodologies (S/W life cycle)"
ii.  Also, what is "S/W life cycle"
    Thanks

  • Service Registry SDLC import export of services

    hi ,
I am intrested to know how is the SDLC process work in service registry?? I have a service in my test environment and is published to service registry test environment. Now I wanted to promote the service to production enviornment and publish it to production service registry env. How can I achieve this.
    appreciate your help.
    thanks
    Srini

    Hello Gourav,
Thank you for this information; it is very helpful.
However - the export appears to only include the entries in the namespace http://uddi.sap.com/classification.  Since that is a protected namespace I am not able to create my custom classification values there.  (I'm also going to assume that this namespace gets overwritten during system upgrades, so I would not want my custom values in it anyway.)  Subsequently my custom values are in a separate namespace that does not seem to be included in the export process.
Is there a way to configure this export utility so that it retrieves the data from my namespace, rather than (or in addition to) the standard SAP namespace?
    Thanks again,

  • Role of a Business Analyst in SAP

    HI,
Can some tell me what is role of a business analyst in SAP?.
I know BA is gathers requirement from Client and gives it to the technical team.
I am little confused to what it exactly is the work . A SAP consultant also configures according the client, so isn't his role same as the business analyst.
If some could send me a few documents for me understand, will really be appreciated
    Thanks

    Dear Abhishek,
Role of a mySAP Functional Consultant
What are the differences between a functional and business consultant?
The difference between Functional consultant and Business consultant are as follows:
    1) A funcitonal consultant is able to configure the system unlike business consultant.
    2) Functional consultant know more about business process unlike Business consultant.
    3) A business consultant will bring business process knowledge and provide it to functional consultant who in turn used this knowledge to configure the system.
    4) Functional consultant has more configuration knolwledge then Business consultant.
The responsibilities of a support consultant are:
    - Primarily responsible for Handling tickets and application support to the endusers
    - When an issue comes diagnose, analyse and solve the issue
    - Responsible for any enhancements
    - Writing functional specs and interacting with Abapers to develop any user exits
    - Training the end users and preparing end user training material
For those who wished to know the role of a functional consultant.  Below is one view:
A functional consultant evaluates the demands in talking with the customer's representatives, transforms the essence into an abstract and algorithmic business model. Hence, he identifies the use cases and transforms them into logical and technical views.
Then the main task starts: customizing the respective business area and making sure the system reacts in the manner according to the constraints of the requested use case.
The consultant documents the settings and prepares proper guidelines that allow other consultants to do further changes or repairs with due efforts.
The consultant takes care that proper training is given to the users and that the system is usable, performing appropriately and the business flow is complete and correct.
During go live he assists the technical staff by testing the behaviour of the system.
After go live he guarantees that the procedures remain usable and consistent in real live situation and proposes enhancements.
The main duty of a consultant is to transfer external know-how to the client. It is not manpower that counts but intelligence, understanding of processes, a feeling for defects and general a common sense.
Role of a Functional Consultant in an End To End Implementation
When you talk about the role of a Functional consultant in an end to end implementation, I think it won't be possible for me or anybody to define everything but I will try to summarize it:
    1. Functional consultant is expected to generate knowledge about the current business process, design current business flows, study current business processes and its complication, in all we can say getting through with current business setup. Flow diagrams and DFD are prepared, most of the time in Vision format, all this forms the part of AS IS document.
    2. Everything configured has to be documented as per their categories in the form of predefined templates, these have to be then approved by the team leads or who ever the consultant is reporting to.
    3. Mapping and GAP analysis is done for each module, I have seen people defining integration after mapping, gap analysis and configuration is done, but as per my experience in implementation, it is a simultaneous process.
    4. Before starting configuring  future business processes in SAP, the DFD/ERD are prepared, this documentation is called TO BE, which can be also siad as the result of mapping and gap analysis.
    5. Sometimes Functional consultants are also expected to prepare test scripts for testing the configured scenarios.
    6. End user manual and user training is also expected from F.Consultants.
The project normally starts off  with a Kick off meeting in which the team size, team members, reporting system, responsibilities, duties, methodlogy, dates and schedules, working hours which have been predicided are formally defined.
ASAP, it won't be possible for me to explain it here, but all I can tell you about it is that it is SAP standard implementation methodology, which SAP prescribes but is not mandatory for any company to follow, such as IBM follow some blue Methodlogy, some companies follow typical SDLC steps, ASAP stands for Accerlated SAP, you can find all the steps on SAP site, through google, reading it from there won't give you a great knowledge about ASAP but will obviously get you to know the definitions of various term.
Hope this helps you. Please let me know in case of any queries.

  • Integrating SAP into a Systems Analysis course

    Hi,
I am part of a group putting together a proposal to integrate SAP into our business school courses and join the UA.  The faculty do not have any training in SAP, but we are looking to find out as much as we can about possible course modules for our proposal.
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or Best Practices for integrating into SAP into a Systems Analysis course for MIS students (not Computer science students)?  For our proposal we are are looking to develop a timeline for different levels of integration at the first, third and fifth year of our SAP use.  What would be the best materials to integrate into a 15 week semester undergrade course where the emphasis is on the system development lifecyle up to, but not including hands-on system design?
From scanning the overviews of library materials, it looks as though the following might be possibilities (although as a guest I don't have access to the full materials):
Using Solution Manager (for the project mgt component of the course)
    Business Process Integration Overview
Concepts in ERP using Fitter Snacker
    ERP simulation game
    Netweaver workflow exercises
Any feedback and tips for a starting point would be appreciated.
    Priscilla
    Assistant Profesor of MIS

    Priscilla,
I have used every one of the resources that you list in your post.  I've used all but Solution Manager in my classes.  I can't say that I see how any of them relate the SDLC.  As noted, ASAP would be relevant, but for an introductory level course (where students have no knowledge of SAP), I don't think that it is something I would recommend.
I've been trying to come up with something that would fit with covering the SDLC specifically, and I've not had much success.  One could perhaps do some things with Visual Composer that would illustrate some of the stages of development, but the existing resources aren't really oriented towards that narative.  I'll be interested to see if anyone else posts here with ideas.
One of the resources you've listed in your postERPsimhas nothing at all to do with development, but if you are looking at integrating SAP as a new resource into business-oriented classes, it is well worth investigating.  I'm not sure how it might match up with your needs, but it is a very excellent vehicle for introducing ERP concepts to students in a very meaningful and interesting way.
I wish you well in your exploration of resources.  As I can answer other questions, I'm happy to.  I'm sure others around here may do so as well.

  • SOP for SDLC in ESOA

My existing development is mainly on .NET environment. The previous development works do not follow any good SDLC model. As a result, the developed application is always hard to maintain. Now, the turning point is in front of me. I would like to spend a few months of time with my colleague to redevelop our development standard.
    The objectives are:
    - Introduce proper communication
    - Increase code readability
    - Improve code continuity
During this switch, we are also planning to switch to the NetWeaver platform. As we believe the single platform should reduce our TCO.
We are aware that many enterprises have their SOP for different areas. Are there any SOP for SDLC that we can reference to? We are especially interested if SAP does provide a SOP guideline for its ESOA.
I am in a very confused stage. As my team has no hand-on experience with ESOA development. At the mean time, we are requested to develop such SOP for SDLC. It would be great if there is some hints for us.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
yes that is only way to Transport the Visual Composer models of VC7.0 .
In PCD of portal you will get the XML and its related info that
that will be converted to Business packages.
but this problems are not there with Visual Composer 7.1 i.e Composite Environment.
there we can creat the models directly under DTR so any body can take it form there and aplly thier applications.

  • About the sdlc(software development life cycle)

wat is the sdlc? wat model do we flow in any company?

In SAP the Development Methodology is called ASAP Methodology:
    Project Preparation:
The first step in ASAP is Project Preparation. In this step the Functional Consultant will analyse the business process and define the system for SAP and will give the time line for the project. The Manpower required and the budgets are also considered in this step.
    Blue Print Preparation:
This is second step in ASAP Methodology. In this step the Project Preparation scenarios are finalised. A out line of the Project is given in this step.
    Realisation:
In this step actual development is taken place. The ABAPer is responsible for this step.
    Testing:
In this step the development done by the abaper is being tested. This is the area where the Unit Test Document is prepared (i.e. Positive Testing and Negative Testing).
    GO live and Support:
This is the final stage where the project is running in the live environment. In this step the bugs if any that are found in the go live procedure are fixed and the project will be considered as support project.

Configuring master data means u are modifying the customer ,material ,condition data according to clients requirement
    Real Time Experience:
    1. Billing Document not released to Accounting.
The error was due to material master not maintained appropriately. The scenario was analysed & the result was if Profit Centre is maintained, but MRP type is not maintained, it does nor releases Billing document to accounting in some cases. It is strange, but yes, its true. There were around 85 - 90 invoice & ideally the solution would be cancelling Invoice, Reversing PGI, Cancelling the delivery & cancelling order & redo every thing again after rectifying Material master. This was happening for 2 material Master newly created. But we selected alternative route i.e in Debug mode, we forced the profit center in billing document & then it released to accounting.
    2. Sales Order incomplte for Material Availability Date, Actual Delivery date & so on..............
This was another classic case where this was odd. I verified & was clear that incompletion log has no problem & these are not included in incompletion log. This again was an master data issue. The reason was Availablity Check was not maintained in Material Master & I had spend 3 days analysing configuration, before checking material master data. It was a learning that I should have checked the master data also, as however expert an user may be, even he is human & can make error.
    3. Common error in an new implementation project with users new to SAP is Billing is not happening.
The highest possiblity is PGI not done or Billing document already created, but overlooked by user in hurry. The best solutiuon is to train the end user to check the document flow, before bringing it as a issue.
    4. Modification in Pricing Procedure Calculation or addition of new condition type.
This is very subjective to clients requirement & not possible to explain it here.
The above are few example of real time issues.

  • SAP message Log

Does SAP maintain log of all the messages displayed on screen using MESSAGE statement?
We are investigating a problem and want to see the messages displayed by SAP during the time when problem occured.

We have custom development for picking and confirmation. Last week we found that in some deliveries there is difference in delivered quantity and packed quantity.
Custom development is calling sap-standard FMs. Problem occurs randomly, roughly 10 deliveries in a week has this problem.
We are still trying to investigate the reason that is causing the problem.
Custom program does display the message to user if FM raise any message. We asked user of they are getting any message while picking, and if they are ignoring it.
They just confirmed that they are getting message 'Packing Not Possible Since there is no Quantity to be Packed' and they did ignored this.

  • Rendering xml-table into logical filename in SAP R/3

    Hi,
I am trying to translate an xml-table with bytes into a logical filepath in SAP R3.
Do I have to use the method gui-download or shall I loop the internal xml-table?
When I tried to loop the xml-table into a structure, and then transfering the structure into the logical filename, I get problems with the line breaks in my xml-file. How do I get the lines to break exactly the same as I wrote them in my ABAP-code?

  • Manual de Integracao v300-2009-03-16 - SAP 4.7 SP30 preparado para NF-e?

    Boa tarde,

    Atenciosamente,
