Satellite A35-S159 - sound is dead

hey. i got totally no sound. volume is maxed everywhere, drivers reinstalled, soundcard is detected and shows no issues,  i checked with headphones with no effect, i'm pretty much lost. im using windows xp. and if this has any meaning - on the laptop's front lights, these on the left with cd sound and digital sound are not lit.
thanks!
edit: another thing that seemed important is that when i press the mute button i can hear some crack. its like i press it <crack> i press it again <crack>. could it be connected to the digital sound led?

since now im doin all sound testing with my headphones on. i uninstalled the hd sound driver. but it didnt work either. i tried different drivers, including these old ones from toshiba's site. im wondering if formatting the whole system would help. i still hear some cracks while muting or unmuting, while system starts as well. as i turn the volume up they are louder. weird?
edit: as for these cracks, i noticed that when i play a sound ie. a song, i hear  a crack and when i stop it i hear another.

  • Re: How to prevent shutdown when closing Satellite A35-S159 lid?

I just inherited a Toshiba Satellite A35-s159.I am running XP.
When I shut the lid,Windows shuts down.
I would like to keep things on, to be able to recieve updates and downloads.
I don't see anything in the "control panel" to allow me to do this.
In the control panel there is "Toshiba Power Settings" but I don't seem to be able to find a way to change a setting in there to keep everything running with the lid closed.
I see a prong on the screen lid that contacts a switch when it is closed, which then shuts the computer down.
Has anyone take to grinding this prong off? Is that the only solution?

    Hi there!
I wish I was able to use the "Power Management" in my OS!
In "Control Panel" I have "Power Management"...but when I click on it,I get a message telling me to use the "Toshiba Power Management" which is a seperate icon in the "Control Panel".When I click on the OS "Power Management" I am not able to make any choices, although I can see them as gray ghosts in the background. The choices would seem to be more extensive. The "Toshiba Power Management choices are few and seem rudimentry in comparison.
I am guessing that Toshiba customized the Control Panel to be computer specific for the A35 model?
I am wondering if I have any choice but to disable the lid switch. That may have been Toshiba's idiot proof way of power management at the time.

  • DVD Decoder for Satellite A35-S159

When I place a DVD Video into the DVD player on my Satellite A35-S159, I get an error message saying: Can not play DVD because I do not have a compatible DVD Decoder.  Where can I download the needed DVD Decoder?

There is a free player here.

Probably better to buy a decoder that has support.

  • Satellite A35-S159: Slow Boot after Restore

A35 S159 as purchased with WinXP. Booted up one day all desktop icons were generic, none of them worked, system restore not accessible and couldn't run anything from the command line. Used the restore CD.
It first I thought that it wasn't booting at all, but it will actually boot and run normally after 10 minutes of sitting at the splash screen. After posting, there is a delay, followed by the white loading bar across the bottom of the screen and then the Windows splash screen and the green loading bar and there it sits.
Can boot into safe mode without a problem. Tried going into msconfig hiding or disabling all services, disabling all startup items and doing a selective startup. No change. No problems noted in device manager. Ran the hard drive diagnostic (Hitachi) and that checks out.
    What's next?

    Hi
Usually after recovering of the unit with the delivered Toshiba Recovery CD all should works properly. For me it sounds like something wrong with the HDD but it's strange that it's possible to boot in the safe mode without any delays.
Try to start the "cmd" in the run window. Then try to use the chkdsk /F command for checking the HDD.

  • Satellite M60-171 sounds like echo-well

    Hello,
My satellite M60-171 sounds like an echo-well. Reinstalling the drivers does not seem to fix the problem (problem hasn't always been there and no I have no idea since when this problem occurs...)
The sound itself isn't bad at all; but the echo in every sound it makes is anoying....
    Suggestions ?

    Hi
Did you try to make system restore to earlier time? Maybe it will solve this in short time and you must not waste your time searching around und check all available options.

  • Satellite P200-1B6: Sound Driver update fails and HD-DVD Player doesn't work

I have just bought a Satellite P200-1B6 laptop and spent the day installing the updates recommended by the TEMPO program. One of these was a Sound Driver update from RealTek but on running this it fails about 80% of the way through with an error: 'Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!'.
Now the Toshiba HD DVD player fails to start with an error 'Unable to output the video to an external device.
Please switch your display device by pressing the Fn + F5 keys after ending the application'. I've tried this but it seems to have no effect.
I'm now regretting starting to update the installed drivers. Should I try to rebuild the machine using the recovery discs or is there another solution that someone has found? Or have others found the upgrade works?
    Any advice welcome

Last month I upgraded my PC Satellite P200 (BIOS, Driver ATI HD2600, Package VAP and HD-DVD Player).
But after this update, I was no longer be able to read my HD-DVDs
Error message was: "Unable to send the video to an external device. Please turn off the display device."
The problem was much of the update Realtek R1.76 (Realtek Sound Driver - 6.0.1.547 - 20/11/07) currently proposed on the site toshiba.
Indeed, the P200-1DE is equipped with Realtek ALC268 Audio Codec.
The latest update of this codec is R1.89. I downloaded from the site Realtek and it has allowed me to solve the problem.
    [http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level= 4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false]
I have no problem since that last update

    Hi JP,
You can obtain a replacement hard drive from any Computer retailer/repairer. Just make sure you get one which matches the characteristics of your existing drive with regard to physical dimensions.
You can also obtain one from many internet retailers although you will then have to wait for delivery.

  • Satellite A300 - Different sound in PSAJ4E and PSAG8E

I have two Toshiba Satellite A300. One is A300-15K (PSAJ4E) and has Conexant driver instaled. Second is A300-20E (PSAG8E) and has Realtek Semiconductor Corporation driver.
The sound comming from harman/kardon in the first is beautiful and in the second much worse. I tried to install Conexant drive in the second Toshiba but it doesn't work. I tried sound setup but without positive result. My system in both Toshibas is Vista 32 bit. Are there any possibilites to improve the quality of sound in the second Toshiba?
    Thanks

    >The sound comming from harman/kardon in the first is beautiful and in the second much worse.
Satellite A300-20E support HARMAN/KARDON speakers and Realtek sound chip.
The Satellite A300-15K supports HARMAN/KARDON speakers as well but it supports Conexant sound chip instead of Realtek sound chip.
The Realtek HD audio manager is installed on notebooks with Realtek sound chip and can be found in control panel.
There are different settings which could improve the sound quality.
The Conexant sound chip does not support such HD audio manager and I think this might be the reason for the different sound.

  • Headphones usage on Satellite A660-BT2G22 -sound plays out of the speakers

When I plug headphones into my Satellite A660-BT2G22 Laptop the sound plays out of the speakers and the headphones.
There has to be a way for me to make the sound play only through the headphones and I would really love that because I am going off to college soon and will have a roommate and I will want to listen to my own music and stuff and not force him to hear my stuff all the time.
    Please help?

This notebook model is not known to me but check control panel and option for some audio manager there. On notebooks with Realtek sound card there is Realtek HD Audio manager.
Check all options there, especially small folder symbol placed at the right top side. When you click on it connector settings window will be open. Enable auto popup dialog.
Now, every time when headphones will be connected you can choose headphone as only device you want to use.
    Please check it out.

  • Satellite A300D-16N: sound like metalic with a lot of cracks

    hallo!
I've upgraded lately from Vista 32bit to Win 7 32 bit on my Satellite A300D-16n.
Now I have some sound problems - it sounds like metalic with a lot of cracks.
I've upgraded my Bios and sound driveres, graphics and wifi are also as latest as win7 says
It seams that there is some kind of conflict beetwen drivers or problem with sound oversteering
I don't know how to fix this.
    Can You help ??

    > Few days ago I've uninstalled the soundcard and reinstalled it again, the sound was quite ok till next reboot.
Well, maybe the Windows OS has taken the old driver
    The driver is from Conexant
Check the newest Conexant sound driver released for other notebooks; i.e Satellite L650D

  • Satellite Pro L40 - Sound Driver after Windows XP SP3 Install

    Hi,
I had bought the Satellite Pro L40 about 6 months ago and the speed of the laptop was too slow with windows Vista. So I decided to install an old copy of windows XP that I had bought earlier. I upgraded the windows installation to SP3 before installing all the drivers.
Now all the drivers have been installed properly except the sound driver. I downloaded the XP version of the driver from the toshiba website but it did not work. So I though maybe the vista version would work, so I downloaded that. But that didn't work either.
Can anyone suggest a solution where I can get the sound driver to work? Preferably without having to get the windows reinstalled again.
    Please help me out...!
    Thanks

    hi there,
Try reinstalling the soundcard driver for XP; Just go here -- > [Realtek Soundcard Driver fo XP|http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/sound-20071120150900.zip]
    Hope this helps :)

  • Dropped my Satellite M30X - now sound & WLan don't work

I dropped my Satellite M30X on the carpet, and now the sound and wireless connection no longer work. (The wireless switch light doesn't turn on when I turn the switch on.)
Is this a repairable problem or do I need to purchase a new computer? Please let me know.
    --Yvette

    Hi everyone,
I spoke with the computer tech support team in my area, and they mentioned that I should have a wireless card installed instead of having the wireless switch replaced. However, repairing the sound is a more complex issue. I would need to have the hard drive replaced, and it would cost me $425.
Not want to spend so much money, I then looked up prices for hard drives online to get a second opinion. It was then, that I discovered (by accident) that an audio card could be used to fix sound unable to be heard from headphone outlets and broken wireless connections. Will an audio card restore sound unable to be heard from my computer's built-in speakers, or is this a problem that replacing the mother board can only resolve? Please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Satellite P100-239 - Sound driver for Windows 7

    Hello,
I need some support for installing audio driver for my Satellite P100-239. I tried different things but noone works. So I'm searching for a mate who give me a solution to fix my sound prob. I am sure it is a conneax hd audio.
I cant flash bios with BD1_BIOS(V4.80)_Update (is it possible for installing soundcard?)
    THx for any help

    Hi Salomon82,
I founded a similar thread regarding sound drivers for Windows 7 on Satellite P100:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=191495&#191495
It seems that the Vista driver also work on Windows 7! :)
Furthermore its not necessary to update the BIOS for installing sound card drivers because firstly you should try the correct driver.

  • Satellite A - Poor sound on Windows 7

I've had my Satellite laptop for about 8 weeks or so now and have had nothing but problems with the sound output. I guessingpoor soundcard drivers for windows 7.
    Here is the problem:
If I play music, dvd disk or a game the sound goes all squeaky, specially the voice. I have reinstalled Windows 7 so may time I have lost count of the installs I have done. I have also been to the Toshiba website and downloaded all the realtek soundcard drivers and none make any diffence to the sound. Each time I install Windows 7, I tried to install Windows updates. Still no good with the sound and the last install of Windows 7, I didnt install any software or any updates and after 2 days the sound went all squeaky again.
I have also searched the internet for other users with the same problem and I have found loads of people with the squeaky sound with the laptop.
The sound is so off putting now I hardly use the toshiba laptop and have gone back to my old other notebook xps
My question is: Is there a work around for the drivers or just have to wait 1 or 2 years for Toshiba to fix the drivers because I dont think its a Windows problem or hardware problem.
I think its something to do with the realtek drivers

    Hi
It would be interesting to know what notebook model you have exactly
    I found some articles an documents in the Toshiba knowledge base about sound issues;
    For example this one:
    +Sound Troubleshooting+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSD0703010000R01.htm
    Here are other docs:
+Whistling sound on the Satellite L500+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0402UB0001R01.htm
Maybe this would be helpful but if you have an Realtek sound chip then I would recommend using the Realtek sound driver too
