Hi ive just bought my A60 laptop and ive noticed that the CD/DVD drive is not reconised...neither from the BIOS! I ve installed the latest bios updates but still nothing...pls can you help me?

Hello
Like Maier said in this case it can be hardware malfunction. If the device is not shown in BIOS it is probably some serious. Please contact the service partner in your country. You can find them on http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?pf=true .

  • Start up DVD not recognised by mountain lion

My start up DVD not recognised by mountain lion-how do I get around this for restoring from time machine?

It's not very clear:  Are you trying to reinstall Mountain Lion from a DVD copy you made of it, for some reason?    And if so, why would that help you restore from Time Machine?  Please give more information.  Properly, to either reinstall Mountain Lion, or to Restore it from Time Machine, you need to reboot while holding down the Command - R keys as mcsound above recommended, to boot into the Mountain Lion Recovery Partition to do either.

  • DVDs not recognised since updating to 10.6.8

Since updating to 10.6.8 I get the message format not recognised when inserting DVDs  movies / recordable media etc. Any ideas.

Just to clarify: DVD movie discs inserted into my iMac come up with the message "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Data, software install disks and audio CD's work fine. I have tried repairing the disk and permissions, as well as creating a new user account. I applied the 10.6.8 update to my wife's macbook and no problem reading DVD movie disks. So is this problem specific to the iMac? I have a 2.66 core duo with 4GB of RAM. Any ideas anyone?

  • Wireless connection on Satellite A60-743 does not work properly

i can't get any connection to the wireless internet with my notebook. how can i use it? this notebook should have wireless, but i tried to connect and there happens nothing! please help me!!!
    best regards,
    nasi

    Hi
Dont be mad at me and sorry for my next hard words but such statements like this notebook should have wireless or i tried to connect and there happens nothing are bulls**t!
Do you know what Wlan is and how it works?!
Regarding your statement I dont think so!!!
First of all why you suggest this notebook should support the WLan card!? Who told you this!?
I have checked the hardware configuration of this notebook and the Satellite A60-743 was delivered WITHOUT the minPCI WLan card!!!
Why you dont check this in the first step!?
You should check the WLan card availability in the device manager. Under network adapters you should see the WLan card.
If the WLan card does not appear you have NO WLAN!!!

  • Help. HD DVD not recognised by Toshiba player

I am burning a 40 second slideshow with no sound onto a looping HD DVD for display on a widescreen. I have burnt around 9 DVDs so far with a variety of settings, but the Toshiba HD-E1KY player I have to use recognises none of them. It simply brings up a box saying this is not a DVD.
Looking through the forum it seems Toshiba players may be an issue, but has anyone any advice on some simple settings that work with DVD SP 4.2.1
ANY suggestions welcome as I dont have enough hair left to keep ripping it out at this pace.

How did you create the HD DVD and how did you burn it?
Apple implemented some of the HD DVD specifications but not all of them and it seemed to be more of an issue that Toshiba had to update Firmware on some machines to make it closer to HD DVD. Does the message box say not HD DVD or not a DVD? What files/folders are in you build file?

  • Satellite A30: Dual Monitor not recognised by windows

I feed the second monitor output from my Satellite A30 to a frame converter for generating a composite video signal. In order for windows to enable the second monitor output on the laptop I have to have either a monitor or a projector attached. Is there a simple way of providing a 'dummy' device to trick the laptop into thinking it has a second monitor and removing the need carry extra kit around.

I agree with you, to display the output on the second output can be done with the FN+5 keys. I am extending my desktop to the second graphics port so that programms such as powerpoint can "Display on second monitor" whilst opperating from the primary screen. The problem is that in order for the second port to be recognised by windows it has to have a monitor plugged in to it, but I have only got a SVGA to Composite video frame converter & the laptop dosen't recognise it as being a valid monitor.

  • Data DVD not recognised

I burnt my images on my old PC on a DVD, marking it as a data DVD and making it presumably compatible with other systems. It can be read by other PC's, but not by my new MacBook. It marks it as an unburnt CD!!
It reads CDs & DVDs just fine.
Please, if you have any ideas...
    MacBook Pro 15" @2.1GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Sonic is the name of the company (they bought Roxio), not the application. But anyway, I have Sonic DigitalMedia Plus on my Dell and I see an option to burn as Data > "Direct to disc" which would indicate it is probably using packet writing (similar to writing to a floppy or DVD-RAM), then they have the option to click "Make compatible" in order to share the disc. Maybe you didn't click that? If your other PC's also have the same burning software, they would be able to read it even without making it "compatible". Or make sure you are clicking on "Data Disc" instead when creating new discs.
Let me know how you made out.

  • [SOLVED] Commercial DVD Not Recognised

I have recently bought a commercial DVD that will not play on my PC. When I load it into the drive, it is just not "seen". Kaffeine reports a dvd read error, while smplayer, etc think there is no disc in the drive. All my other DVDs (with various region codes) play perfectly. This particular disc works fine on the set-top player on my TV.
I have checked that libdvdcss, etc are installed OK.
Does anyone have any ideas what's causing this, and suggest any fixes?

Yay for going legit huh? On a more serious note, do you have any possibility to test the dvd in other drives besides yours? It might just be that your drive is getting old or the dvd quality could be better and your drive has some difficulty reading it. Even pressed media can be of bad quality and some drives work miracles while others seem to quit at the first sign of trouble and I guess it also depends on the type of defect.
As for the possibility of the problem being caused by a copy protection, could also be the case, although I can't say much about that as I haven't looked at that for a long time, you could look here [1] as it may have something interesting. On the other hand, I'd say many standalone players use the same drives as available for computers so I'm not sure if someone would risk breaking things in that case.

  • Satellite L100-P443 - GPU not recognised correctly (950 945GM)

hello, i have a question for my laptop. the catalogue of toshiba notebook says my model has "intel graphic media accelerator 950 up to 128MB shared VRAM" installed.
but in my device manager, inside control panel, it shows my display adaptor is "mobile intel(R) 945GM Express chipset family".
why is this not matching with the catalogue?
and also where can i download latest display and sound drivers for my laptop? please give me the website if you know it, thanks everyone.
    james lee

    Hello
Like you know many notebooks use Intel platform and you can noticed that there is word family. Now the question: have you checked Intel page to see which graphics cards are listed under 945GM Express chipset family?
In my opinion you should check Intel page to learn more about Intel hardware platform. I have no time to search it for you but believe me there is no reason for panic. To understand why this not matched catalogue you must have enough hardware knowledge and know how it works exactly.
Latest driver you should find on official Toshiba download page. Satellite L100-P443is not known to me and it will be interesting to know in which country you have bought your notebook.

  • DVD not Recognised

I have an iMac and it doesn't recognise a DVD, it just ejects it. CD works ok, and if I sign in as a guest the DVD works ok. I have tried all the settings I can find but nothing works. can anybody help

If it's just one DVD then it's probably damaged. Have you attempted to use other DVDs, if you have and still have an issue then go to your local Office Supply store and get a CD/DVD cleaning kit. It's possible that is all that is needed, a good cleaning.

  • Toshiba satellite 2450-s203 does not recognise atheros wlan card

    Hi!
I have a toshiba satellite 2450-s203 and there is an embedded atheros wlan card -somewhere in the laptop-.
However, I am running win xp pro and the device manager DOES NOT FIND THE CARD!
It finds the ethernet card and a 1394 net adapter!
    But not the WLAN card!!
Any ideas?! I have downloaded the wireless card's drivers from the site but with no luck!
    What should I do?!
    thanks!

    Hi,
The W-lan card is optional to this model eg. it's not included in all machines. You need to purchase the correct module to get W-lan to work.
If the card would be installed in the machine, You should see either a yellow esclamation mark (!) or "unknown device" if You have uninstalled hw.

  • Burnt DVD not recognised on Windows Computer

My wife and I have recently started our own business, and are using 'Disk Utility' to do daily backups of our work onto DVD+RW disks. Every few days we erase the old disks and re-write over them. We have 2 computers an IMac G5 on Tiger and a Laptop on Windows Vista. Due to the nature of the work I often have to use files created on the Mac on the Laptop. I would like to use the previous days back-up disk to transfer the files to the laptop as it is the most hassle free method of transferring the files over, especially when working away from home. This is where the problem starts, the burnt disks are easily read on the iMac, I have checked them several times as I'm paranoid about loosing my work. But when I put the DVD into the Laptop, a pop-up asks me what I want to do with my blank disk. I checked the help files on 'Disk Utility' and they talk about setting the volume format to a microsoft setting but when I erase the DVD that menu is greyed out. What can I do as the only way for me to transfer files at the moment is by using my iPod which takes several transfers to copy everything over, using up a lot of my time.
Regards & Thanks for any responses
    John Curwood

Data disks created with Disk Utility are normally Mac format. To read them with Windows you need MacDrive
    <http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/>
If you use the Finder to burn the DVD, it will be in both Mac and PC format, and should work with no additional software.

  • Satellite A60 will not mount drive UJDA760

My Satellite A60's DVD/CD-ROM drive stopped working properly. It no longer could read DVD-ROMs, a serious problem because the recovery disk is a DVD-ROM.
Recently I bought a replacement drive, same model number as the old drive. But when I installed it, the computer didn't recognize the drive. The drive has power and spins disks. The computer just doesn't know it is there.
Anyone have any idea of what can be done to encourage the computer to see the drive? I have updated the BIOS to the latest version but that didn't help.
    I appreciate any suggestions.
    Phil Prime

    Hi Phil Prime,
Is the old drive recognized in BIOS properly?
Im not sure but certain drives have a jumper on the backside where the connector is. There you can change between Master, Slave and Cable Select. Please set the jumper to Master and if its not working, try Slave mode.
In worst case the new drive is faulty and you should send it back to shop and ask for a replacement.

  • I am not able to burn DVD on my Satellite A60

    Hi!
I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 with a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K13A. And Every time I try to burn a dvd it doesn't work. The drive detects the dvd but I can't burn it. I've tried several burning programs such as Record Now! and Intervideo WinDvD Creator. Do I need to upgrade the burner or something.
And the format of the dvd's are DVD-R, and I checked the manual, and it says I'm able to burn DVD-R.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello
On this way it is not easy to say if there is just some small problem or maybe malfunction but according to your description I presume that the drive can read but not write DVD medias. In this case it is really possible that drive is defective.
If you have tested it with different DVD medias and different burning applications I am pretty sure that drive is defective.

  • Satellite P30-145: drive will not recognise dual layer DVDs

I have a Satellite P30-145 with a DVD SupermultiDL drive. When I first got the PC I could write dual layer DVDs without any problems. Now the drive will not recognise dual layer DVDs at all. Even ones from the same box that worked fine previously. I'm using Verbatim Double Layer DVD+R 2.4x discs.
After much searching on the internet I downloaded and ran DVDInfoPro. This application reported that the drive did not support DVD+RW DL. Very strange!!
Can anyone help? The drive is a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-831S.

    Hi Lan
This drive is definitely DL one but I can just imagine that drive is defective and can not calibrate lens in the right position. This notebook model is more that two years old and if you have used this drive intensively I can really imagine that DL function is defective.
What you can do is to clean the lens and see it this will help.
