Satellite L300 PSL8B8E - Wifi Realtek RTL8187B freezes

Hi,
I have problem with Wifi adapter in my new laptop Toshiba Satellite L300 PSL8B8E.
I purchased it 3 days ago. I have build in WiFi adapter Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0.
1. I tried to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium from scratch.
2. I have downloaded drivers from Toshiba download site.
3. I disabled Power saving options.
4. Bios is the latest version
5. I changed Wifi channels
None of this helped me to solve problem with freezing Wifi. After restart it's working for a while and then it stop communicate and nothing helps me until I restart operating system.
Can anybody help me?
Zoltan

Hi all,
I have used Toshiba laptops before, but this Satellite L300 PSL8B8E (Vista 32, with Realtek RTL8187B wireless card) is the worst I have ever had.
Do not get me wrong, the machine works just fine, without wireless connection. But in this era, a laptop without wless is not worth much! Frankly, I have not had a chance to enjoy the wireless/mobility of a supposedly great toshiba, since I received it last March.
Wireless connection starts when the laptop starts, and after few minutes it simply dies. I have 3 other laptops and PCs home, all using the same wireless router (maxrange from Netgear) problem - free. Only this Satellite L300 is making my experience a nighmare.
I have tried resolving this, using every piece of advice I have been able to get, from updating Bios, firmware, drivers, OS, what have you.
My problem is I live in Palestine, a territory without Toshiba presence, and I have no way of returning this laptop to the vendor (was purchase from London).
Is there anyway to get in touch with TOshiba reps/tech geeks directly. They seem not to care to respond to similar questions, though clearly this seems to be a widespread problem (see the number of searrches and results using Google).
Please help.

  • Satellite L300-2CE - Wifi too slow

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba L300-2CE laptop, i bought it last week with Vista, and I installed XP after purchase.
All drivers installed, and everything is working, but when I connected to the internet with wifi, the download speed is usually very limited (0.2-1.2mbps - with UTP-cable 8-9mbps at the same time). The upload speed is normal. Sometimes the download speed with wifi is normal too.
My wlan card is Atheros AR5007EG. I've tried a several drivers from toshiba and atheros webpage, but after a few minutes, the speed is reduced again.
    Please help!

WLAN speed is depending on many different factors. In your posting you didnt inform us about anything except which WLAN card is in your laptop.
The fact is that WLAN card on your laptop run at 802.11g so check router settings and be sure this standard is enabled there. You can set it to 802.11g only.
What is the distance between router and your laptop?
Have you tested WLAN functionality on friends router or somewhere else?

  • Satellite L300 keeps freezing

My laptop keeps freezing ... it doesn't always happen, but it's started happening regularly over the past few weeks, where all programs stop responding and I can't open Task Manager, so the only thing to do is to turn the power off.
I tried restarting in Safe mode, and did a System restore, which seemed to work temporarily, but it started happening again, and even doing another restore hasn't fixed the problem. My laptop is only 8 months old and has up-to-date Norton antivirus running; I've done comprehensive virus scans but haven't picked up anything. The freezes don't seem to be brought on by any particular software - they just happen randomly, sometimes after an hour or two, sometimes not at all, and sometimes quite soon after I start the computer.
I've also run the Toshiba Assist PC Diagnostic tool which came with the computer, and that didn't pick up any problems with the hardware. It seems likely to be a software rather than a hardware problem, but I can't think of anything I've installed recently that would cause any issues, and also the fact that no program in particular brings on the freezes makes it hard to determine what the problem is.
Other than the Diagnostic tool, the system restore and running Norton, I don't know what to do!
My system is a toshiba satellite L300, running Vista Home Premium SP1, core 2 duo 2.00GHz processor, with 2GB RAM.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks!

    Hi
First of all I recommend removing the Norton Antivirus because this tool needs a lot of hardware resources and slow downs the system.
Instead of Norton you could use the Avira Antivir.
This software is free and can be downloaded from different pages. I use this too and Im really satisfied.
Furthermore you should check if such freezing are not related to the high temperature.
You could clean the ventilators using compressed air spray. It will help you to remove the dust from the cooling fans and grilles.
    Check it!

  • Satellite L300 - Very slow start up and freezes

    Hi all,
I have a Satellite L300 which has treated me well - however over the past 2 months it has got really slow and freezes quite often. I have run through anti virus, spybot etc and come up with nothing.
Last night I tried to reformat the system by pressing and holding 0 which did not work then tried with F8 which let me do a further scan but no reformat. I am now quite pleased that I failed to do the reformat as I purchased windows 7 after the original purchase of the laptop.
Any ideas anyone - or anyone with the same/simular problems?

    Hey,
That means you have Windows 7 installed at the moment and not preinstalled Windows version?!
Well, in this case the HDD recovery option is not available anymore. You can do this on preinstalled Windows only.
To format your notebook you need Toshiba recovery disk.
    Did you create it?

  • Satellite L300 - After XP installation it can't find the WiFi router

After insatlling XP SP1 and insatlling many drivers all except for WLAN works. I did install the drivers and i did install Atheros for managing my connections, but It seems not to even find the wifi router.
I'm using toshiba satellite l300 pslbce.
PS! I had the laptop running on Ubuntu berfore, worked fine.

Yes, installing SP2 is very important on newer laptops since so much changed from SP1 to SP2
Here is some info found on Wiki:
SP2 added new functionality to Windows XP, including an enhanced firewall, *improved Wi-Fi support*, such as WPA encryption compatibility, with a wizard utility, a pop-up ad blocker for Internet Explorer 6, and Bluetooth support.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP#Service_Pack_2
Going from SP2 to SP3 is not a big step, but since SP3 is basically a compilation of hotfixes since SP2, you should install SP3 as well for security reasons.

  • Satellite L300 - Charger causes freezing

I have Satellite L300 with Windows 7 64bit running. Computer works great without charger. Charger charges battery ok with system shut down. Charger charges battery ok when running in safe mode.
OS reinstalled and drivers updated that can be when laptop is running on battery.
If startup with charger plugged in will boot all the way up to end of welcome screen then freezes. What exactly changes at this point? Running on battery is fine untill charger is plugged in then freezes immediately. Laptop cannot or willnot run without battery on charger--freezes at welcome. Battery charger not problem as identical results with new identical charger.
Toshiba Techn suggested reinstall OS and drivers -DONE- no difference nothing that some changes may not be done in safe mode or without charger attatched. In reading forums searching for solutions I note that many suffer this problem with no definitive solution coming to hand. Toshiba seem extremely shy to attack this problem in general and my experience with them on phone seemed to have my mate ducking and diving.
To me the issue seems to be in the power distribution (hardware or software) but I have reached a stage someone with superior knowledge has to take my hand to guide me. Can anyone assist.

    Hi buddy,
I assume you are using an original Toshiba AC/DC adapter, right? Or do you use a 3rd party charger?
I think only Toshiba knows what at this point where notebook freezes will be accessed...
Have you reinstalled Windows from Toshiba recovery disk or is it your own Windows 7 installation?
If yes I would try installing Windows from Toshiba recovery disk to make sure the problem is not software or driver related. Toshiba recovery disk contains an image of factory settings with all drivers and tools.
This means if the same error occurs after recovery installation its a hardware malfunction :(

  • Satellite L300 - Which WLAN driver I need to use?

I reformatted the drive and installed Win XP Professional and updated the BIOS. The Realtek 8187b Wlan driver is not recognised in the device properties. There seem to be three different brands of drivers listed but do not know which one is te correct one.
I made sure the WiFi switch is on. (Fn + F8 does not work).
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Klaas-bcs,
Your notebook belongs to PSLB0A series and therefore you can get all drivers on Toshiba Australian page:
    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au
Youre right that there are different drivers listed but if you have a Realtek WLAN card you have to download the Realtek RTL8187B Wireless LAN Driver
    Check this!!!

  • Satellite L300-17N (PSLBCE) - Wireless Card is not working

    Hello,
I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L300 (PSLBCE) which came without any OS and dirvers. I installed WXP PRO SP2 on it and downloaded all drivers from Toshiba site. Everything was installed ok and working except the WLAN card. The WLAN card it's a Realtek RTL8187B but it's not recognized by my laptop: If I check the device manager it does not appear (it only appears 'Network Controller' with yellow mark). Then I went to Realtek website and download new drivers from there and installed again....also with these dirvers the WLAN card still not recognized.
Any idea what coud be the problem? I'm sure I downloaded the correct dirvers from Toshiba website and also from Realtek site...but none of them helped. The chipset drivers were also installed and also the latest BIOS version (my BIOS version is newer that the one on the toshiba website with the drivers for this model)
Can it be a conflict with other dirvers or with WXP PRO SP2?
    Thank you

    Hi buddy
The Satellite L300-17N does not support the Realtek RTL8187B but Intel 11a/b/g (13ch) - Golan Wlan card.
I would recommend visiting the Toshiba European WLan portal and would recommend downloading and installing the Intel WLan driver from here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
There you could try the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945/4965/5100/5300 driver package!!!
    I would appreciate your feedback

  • Help needed with system recovery Satellite L300-149

    Hi
    We have a Satellite L300-149.
Was running really slowly so wanted to reset it to factory settings.
Did the 'press F12 when starting, put disk in' etc etc BUT have a horrible feeling that I put a disk in that actually belonged to a different Toshiba we used to use a U300.
The 'give away' was that the user manual for the U300 is now on the desktop on the Satellite :-/
I hoped that this wouldn't be a major problem BUT the F8 key has now disappeared making it impossible to connect to the internet.
I looked online and read that the L300 sometimes doesn't come with a disk as the info is kept on a separate part of the hard drive so hoped I could reset it back to factory settings again but when I click F2 on start up and go to the option to restore it, noting happens.
    Can anyone please help??????

    Hi
    Forget the HDD recovery now
You have recovered the system using another disk and this has deleted the HDD recovery image files. So this option is NOT possible!
You are right the L300 and all other notebooks are not delivered with Recovery disks.
The recovery disk has to be created using the preinstalled software called Recovery Disk Creator. But this is also NOT possible because you removed the preinstalled system and the files which are needed for such recovery disk are not available anymore!
But if everything work properly except of the WLan FN + F8 key, then I would recommend to install only the Wlan driver. I think the key does not work because the right WLan driver is not installed.
I think the Satellite L300-149 supports the Wlan Realtek RTL8187B chip.
So install the right Wlan driver which you can find here:

  • Satellite L300 - System crashes often

    Hello!
Recently bought Toshiba Satellite L300-1AM (PSLBGE), now I'm facing the system crashing problem.
Laptop came without operating system. First thing, I installed Windows XP, updated BIOS version from v1.3 to v1.6 then have to reinstall XP. After that, I installed most recent drivers from Intel and Toshiba support pages for this model, and automatic updates from Microsoft, including Service Pack 3.
(Chipset, video and Intel matrix storage drivers are from Intel support. Others are from Toshiba.)
Everything seems to work, without any unknown device or recognised error, but very often programs get stuck or whole system freeze. Especially when trying to read something larger from disk, or doing demanding task.
I will appreciate any experience or suggestion.
(Apologizing for bad english, hope it can be understood!)

    Hello
Its not easy to say what causes the problem. Normally I would say reinstall the notebook with the Toshiba recovery disk but you dont have one. Maybe you should contact an authorized service provider to order one or from Toshiba directly:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
It could be a software or hardware problem so in your case I would try it with the recovery disk.
Furthermore you could check the RAM and HDD. Maybe one part is faulty. Check this with Memtest86 [www.memtest86.com] and Drive Fitness Test http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT

  • Satellite L300-17L - don't see any wireless networks detected

    Hello all,
I just bought a Satellite L300 - 17L. All drivers seem to work except for the wireless card.
First, I installed the driver pointed by this site but I discovered that the card is actually an Intel Pro 3945 card, not Realtek as specified in the driver section.
Now I installed the driver for the INTEL PRO 3945ABG, version 11.5.1.15 and also the PRO Set utility, and I don't see any wireless networks detected.
I have a colleague that sees many networks using the same adapter but on a other Laptop.
I also tested the switch on the Laptop and it is on.
Did you experience this kind of problems on your system ? Please help me because I am really sad because of this issue.
    Thanks & Best regards
    Valentin

    Hi
As far as I know this notebook was equipped with the Intel 11a/b/g WLan card.
You should firstly check if the WLan router and the WLan card use the same WLan standard.
In the WLan card properties (in device manger) you could check this settings choosing Advanced tab.
I would also recommend checking if the WLan was enabled properly
    Bye

  • Is Stereo Mix available for the Satellite L300?

    Hi,
I have been looking far and wide to see if I can find out how to get stereo mix for the L300 and I can't seem to find anything for it.
Is Stereo Mix available for the satellite L300?
Can I get it and if I can how?

    Take a look here:
+Not possible to record sound from Internet+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB8A02HA0000R01.htm
At the end of this document you will find this:
+The Conexant Audio Device does not support "Stereomix" device.+
+This is specification of the Conexant hardware+.
If you have Realtek sound chip then the Stereo Mix is supported!!

    Hi!
I think this is not a problem. Windows 7 is only a beta OS and at the moment the driver support is not so good.
Maybe you will find some drivers on the manufactures website from the WLAN card. In your case it should be Realtek.

  • Drivers for Satellite L300-1AN for Vista 64-bit

    Hello,
I just bougt a notebook, Toshiba Satellite L300-1AN, and i Intend to install Vista 64-bit OS but i didn't find drivers for Vista 64-bit (only for Vista 32-bit). Can you help me withsome information or some links?
Another question (I am not an expert): my notebook have 4Gb RAM and some guys told me that only a 64-bit OS can use all my 4Gb RAM. Is this true?
    Thank you,
    Calin

Usually the drivers have to be specifically designed for 64-bit OS, and the installer must definitely not contain any 16-bit code (which is not compatible with 64-bit OS, but which is still a common thing nowadays - for the 32-bit drivers only, obviously). Some 32-bit drivers are somehow compatible with 64-bit OS, but there's a performance limitation (and possible conflicts with other drivers and memory resource allocation; 100% compatibility with the OS, as well as the OS' manufacturer certification, are some of the key features that will make Windows 7 better than Vista, since most of the problems are related to poorly written drivers).
Searching Toshiba's site for 64-bit drivers is definitely not a solution, since the technical specs on the website are not so detailed and cannot be used in order to narrow the search area (and there's no field to search by chipset driver, regardless the product series; even with such a field, not having the files indexed properly will bring no result).
The RealTek (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Sound) and Intel (Video, Memory Controller, USB...) drivers are easy to find, but the Toshiba-specific drivers, as well as the Toshiba applications, are a little trickyer to get. Those are the ones I'm interested in.
